I don't want to seem uncompassionate but the fact that they have that homeless camp not that far from a school it's quite frightening. I know people that are homeless and won't go near that camp and will also advise other homeless people to stay away from there because that place is very violent. It has a lot of drug activities even though there are police officers in that area. I don't want it to take a tragedy before everybody starts seeing that's something needs to change a lot faster.

There are schools everywhere within city limits. You'd have to build these facilities our in rural areas, and you'd have to force people to be there. At that point it's just prison, which is where most of these people need to be.
The government still dragging it's feet on enforcing stopping illegal drug use and spread. When person doesn't have access to job, food and slowly starving some turn to drug to escape the pain. People who haven't been w/o food don't understand the Pain of hunger. The body basically eats itself. Why do you think concentration camps, prisoners were walking skeletons?
I’ve had $1400 worth of property stolen in the last 3 years. I don’t even recognize the police as authorities anymore since they don’t show up to petty property crime or attempted carjackings. I make sure my block is safe and encourage everyone else to take up this role for themselves in their neighborhood. We haven’t had a theft here that I’m aware of in 6 months. Seems like Spokane really just doesn’t have any idea how to handle these problems, because they city has become exponentially worse in the last 5 years. The extensive amount of drug abuse, the never ending expanse of homelessness, hell the driving capability of the public has become horrible too. Oh, then there’s the rental and housing market (which luckily isn’t as bad as last year.) It just bums me out, it’s like our town became an extension of Northern Cali.
Largest homeless problem in Washington is in Spokane. Think about that. I am sick of our state reps. Building houses for them will not work, they did this is LA and it's 90% empty and the homeless sleep on the sidewalk outside of the tiny homes, why because they can drink, use drugs ect. There is a short documentary on it. 600 + people at camp no hope and les then 20 went to the service center. That tells you all you need to know. I am so sick of my tax money going to this BS problem

My rent in Spokane has risen to $200 over my Social Security check. I am running out of savings. I will be totally broke and homeless by Jan 2023. I am elderly and I don't think I will last very long on the streets. I don't do drugs and I am not crazy. I am just alone, poor, sad and scared.

It's a difficult problem. They're still humans, and we need comprehensive plans to help the various demographics of the homeless population. For some, they just need a home. Others need jobs, and still others need rehab and many other sources of support. It's obviously not as simple as offering help. It's going to be a long and arduous task to develop the pathways for these people to find themselves in healthier circumstances. And still, many never will. Some will come here if we offer the resources, which will further tax our system. It's sad, but we can't afford to turn our backs on people.

We're all in this together and no one would survivor their own.
Landlords are a big problem. But these people have to want a better life. Giving them something for no responsibility to give back is a joke. We all have rules some of them don't want rules.
💯 agree with you. Over here on the Moscow Pullman border we are experiencing an increase homeless population. Trying to get an apartment here the past year is a joke, they only want to cater to rich college kids so they've essentially gentrified this area and its just going to get worse. We are all human and it could be anybody in their position, soon the laws will make it to where they have no where to go or be, then what???
Build apartments for them. It's not that hard. There needs to be more housing in this god awful rundown city. We don't need high-end housing or single family housing we need micro social housing for the people who need it most. The ones who live in the streets, shelters and motels. The money is there they just aren't spending properly. It's a joke how the homeless problem grows each year but no one does a thing to help the problem just bandaids the problem then everyone complains. No one wants a detox center in their rundown neighborhoods but those are exactly the areas they need them the most and would be best served. Don't want homeless in your area but do little to help with the problem. People are so damn ridiculous.
Yea but then after they are built then what? It's just outta sight outta mind and that's not fixing the problem... They need to be offered some real help with therapy and rehabilitation for many things, and with a capitalist country that's not gonna happen... It's so sad

You would have to have security, which means rules. Too many of the homeless don't like rules, like the last guy in the video.
Too late. Two people died there already.
Moving day camper.
yeah lets just kill all if the homeless people get rid of the undesirables
@@BEINGOOD77 you misunderstand, the OP believes the homeless will hurt the children not themselves. They did say they didn’t want to appear uncompassionate - which is code for a paranoid fear that homeless people are going to massacre kids
There are schools everywhere within city limits. You'd have to build these facilities our in rural areas, and you'd have to force people to be there. At that point it's just prison, which is where most of these people need to be.
The homeless issue is actually a drug issue.
It's more than just drugs. They don't want to be part of society.
Not all homeless are drug addicts. To label all homeless addicts is wrong.

Spokane hasn’t cared about making down town safe, and Seattle has been encouraging people to come here for the benefits
If you see someone breaking into cars, don’t call the cops; call the coroner.

@@DisDatK9 I feel this to the bone.

If you will not work you should not eat. If you cannot work because of a genuine disability then we should provide for you if you are a legal resident of the united states. If not you shoul be removed from country.

I used to have my own apartment and could afford rent, now everything has skyrocketed and landlords only want people with perfect credit and high paying jobs.
Owning a rental is a business not a charity. Oh no!!!! The owner doesn't want worthless trash costing them money, HOW EVIL... 🤣

Its about unfair price hikes & landlords making it close to impossible for normal (low and middle class) hardworking people to afford even the most basic places, if you can even get past the gatekeeping initial information gathering they do. You gotta have perfect credit, wonderful high paying job you've had for years, no pets, etc... Where I live studio apartments are now $1000+ and here its a border of 2 states that BOTH cities cater only to college kids. These also aren't big cities, they're small with very little to do, so the price hikes make no sense other than greedy landlords and banks. They are only building places for college kids because they bankroll off their rich parents, thats fundamentally wrong to screw over EVERYONE else in these places hence the rise in homelessness. Its simple facts that if you gentrify a location you're going to increase its homeless population. Sh!t even South Park a stupid show can grasp that basic concept 🙄

Fentanyl is destroying our society slowly but steadily.
Yea but then after they are built then what? It's just outta sight outta mind and that's not fixing the problem... They will be back on the streets once it comes time for them to pay rent or percentage of rent... They need to be offered some real help with therapy and rehabilitation for many things, and with a capitalist country that's not gonna happen... It's so sad
@@87clits There will still be problems in the apartment, because you would have to have rules. Firemarshalls would have to make sure apartments and hallways are free of possible fire hazards (or the city would get sued). Cops would be called constantly because of domestic violence or unruly neighbors. I could see drugs being sold and used in the publicly funded facility (taxpayers). You would have to have security, which means rules. Too many of the homeless don't like rules, like the last guy in the video. The question he should have been asked is " Fine, you want to stay here and want the city to leave you alone, but what about those in the camp that are causing problems, bothering people in nearby businesses, or leaving needles and doing drugs, and devaluing the properties in the area? Should they be allowed to stay? If not tell us who they are and we will get rid of them first." Also those on the cusp of being homeless and paying rent (barely) would say "hey wait. why should i have to pay rent? I should just be homeless, get a micro apartment and not have to waste my money ($1000) on rent anymore....and if food is included...no brainer"

Or offer not force them with free counseling for people with mental health problems or drug rehab & with getting them a good job with government housing but they will say no because they don't like laws/rules or structure
@@geno1825
No such thing as counseling anymore...to much red tape, and policies due to sue happy people.
All they do is listen and take your money or the states....ALL HOSPITALS WANT TO DRUG PEOPLE NOT HELP THEM
Everything goes back to MONEY NOT REALLY HELPING ANYONE...Only Jesus can offer real healing
If a person is disabled why don’t they get on disability? They get a check, reduced rent on housing, medical, and an EBT card for food. Instead of being on the streets they can fill out paperwork for disability and help.
Disgusting.....how are the cops supposed to keep up with that?! Only reason I am not homeless is someone is letting me stay in their basement....I work full time, no felonies...all i have on my record is the eviction from losing my job due to Covid...and I cant find an affordable place anywhere....this city is not good.....its catering to the upper class big time, screw those of us barely making it.....if at all.
Set up parking for people who live in their vehicles
Talk about ungrateful . Those homeless should be so grateful that they will be off the streets come winter. Any housing is better than NO housing. They will most likely change their tune once the bitter cold comes in and bites their ass . 🥶😊
Yeah pass more laws taking away people's rights am lucky to have a home but tge cost of living and everything else is ridiculous and even with job damn near impossible then add fact that everyone's on drugs all who started for bunch different reasons all now stuck unable to stop all she's doing is trying to make it so people aren't seen
These people need work and earn things in life, NO FREE STUFF IN LIFE
Yeah I'm living in motel right this moment but even I can't stand the amount of people that live on the sidewalks downtown spokane plus the smell is absolutely horrible.....
No more excuses to turn into a human blob. Can NOT say idunno where to get help from the city, county, etc... Some people don't want that, just want to mooch off others. Some others LET Family take their Soc. Sec. Checks and Let their family kick out into street !
🙏🙏🙏
Spokane where not Seattle we have shelter 😂 😆😆😆
I've been homeless and I live here in alaska
I hope everyone realizes that when you give them money you may be the one buying them the last drugs they ever take, and the second to last person they ever see, right before the dealer. People are overdosing EVERY day.
The dealer don't want the 2$ I give em. Stfu
So everyone is a drug addict? C'mon don't be so ignorant.
@@davescott686 Did I say that everyone is? No. Almost all of the panhandlers, yes. I have a huge amount of experience with them, so I’m not being ignorant, maybe you are turning a blind eye because you don’t want to face the reality. When you talk to them after they are saved from an overdose the story usually goes that they came upon enough cash, ran to the dealer, overdosed.
I've tried buying them a meal they want money for drugs I don't condone that crap 💩 & I'm not a enabler & really pathetic especially the gas can scam saying I need $50 for gas to my job for work so I try saying well lets get some gas fill the car up geterdone but they don't have a car I'm not that gullible or ignorant
Honestly I hate to say it this way but they shouldn't give them a choice to go to the shelter Thy need to show up one day with some buses and garbage trucks and make ppl get on the busses to shelter Otherwise they are just gonna post up at different place
Ironically, that would actually be trespassing as its on state land.
Where are these people supposed to go once they get clean and get a phone/job etc ? There’s no fucking apartments here. Especially for a sane and achievable price.
How you expect a ticket to be paid by someone who's homeless?
The point it to force them to get help. They won’t do it without being compelled
@@lukemccandless4314 the vast majority won't do it even if compelled
@@NordicDan I’m not sure what your definition of “compelled “ is. By definition it means there is no option to not do it.
@@lukemccandless4314 yeah because simply telling someone not willing to follow through is sure "compelling" 🙄
The only ones who will be compelled to get themselves out of their situation are the ones willing to do the work to accomplish it, which are a vast minority of the population that this is targeting.
If they choose to live like stray dogs, there’s not much anyone can do about it.
if only they lived as long as a stray dog
why cant they make shelters look more like bedrooms? why do they always look like prison dorms? of course people would rather live in tents. Hey Mayor... stay a night there!
If we had some good government things like this would be addressed, but Inslee and his butt buddy are too worried about guns and cars.
