      I’m sorry, as raw is not recommended for public health reasons I don’t typically review foods that encourage feeding raw.

    I am one of those people you refer to sitting at my computer and machinating over food choices for my two dogs. You can really go down a rabbit hole and become overwhelmingly confused! I was so happy to find your channel and have started watching it faithfully. I’m wondering if you can review Annamaet dog food specifically their OPTION formula. Also, I completely agree with your stance on All Life Stages. However, it seems the vast majority of dog manufacturers are going to All Life Stages. It is very difficult to find adult maintenance food.

    The Ca:P ratio is completely off: it's around 0.8:1, however it should be 1.2:1 - 1.4:1. Calcium should be higher than phosphorus, the ratio shouldn't drop below 1:1

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  3 месяца назад +5

      This is generally true, BUT if you review the literature (SACN, pg 114) "The “ideal” calcium-phosphorus ratio recommended for animals
      with simple stomachs is generally considered to be between 1:1
      and 2:1. A number of factors, however, influence the importance of
      this ratio. Increasing levels of vitamin D reduce the significance of
      adverse calcium-phosphorus ratios. Furthermore, the ratio can differ markedly with the form and availability of the calcium and phosphorus supplied in the diet. For example, animals eating foods high
      in phytate phosphorus require greater phosphorus intake to meet
      their needs. Thus, the ideal calcium-phosphorus ratio would be
      lower when foods with these dietary characteristics are fed vs.
      foods composed of mostly meat ingredients"
      So technically it would depend on how much plant rich material was in the diet and how many phytophosphates are present, as this could flip the ideal ratio. But yes, the ratio is important and in general should be between 1:1 and 2:1 with the calcium being higher than the phosphorus.

    Random question:
    Will kibble toppers throw off the balance of the kibble itself? Bone broth/goats milk/ even some fresh veggies/fruit? Of course in moderation.
    Also a review on Iams Healthy Adult Proactive Chicken would be lovely ☺️
    Thanks again!

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  3 месяца назад +1

      I’ve called a company first regarding therapeutic diets and toppers and chicken/veggie broth can be added and not significantly change the diets properties. I think veggies and fruit would be fine in moderation as you say. Cheese and dairy would be a no for several reasons. Plus it’s not necessary if added to a balanced diet, they just unbalance it. so these things are treats, and need to thought of as such.

      Plain Kefir would be better than goats milk. It is fermented and provides "good" bacteria for gut health.

    Would you consider doing step 2 on foods that scored about x score in the future? That would be amazing.

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  3 месяца назад +1

      I considered doing a membership that would allow me to go through more in depth and maybe work through SACN but at present I dont have the time to properly devote to that. Step two would require a pretty hefty knowledge of several subjects, prerequisites if you will and would be confusing and frustrating to those that aren’t up to speed that may stumble on the videos

    Please can you do Life's Abundance large breed puppy kibble? I am bringing home my pup soon and the breeder recommends this and I bought some but it is very expensive and I just want to do best for my giant breed pup? I saw on one site it said there wasn't enough protien in the large breed puppy for bigger breed dogs? Im totally lost please any suggestions would be much appreciated! I will speak to my vet but where I live the two vets we have are in their upper sixties+ and so I'm afraid knowledge isn't up to date like some places? Overall I do trust them of course I just like to further knowledge where I can. 😊 Edit: I have looked everywhere( I mean everywhere!) and all I can find is reviews from the people selling it which scares me! My breeder is even a consultant or whatever its called. I'm afraid this is just a MLM pyramid scheme type of thing but I'm not really sure?

    • @AnimalDocRea

      A quick Google search shows Life's Abundance is a known MLM. Can't believe I'm saying this, but Hill's Large Breed Puppy food would be a better choice. (I feed my cats homemade) Dr. Rea feeds her dogs Hill's and I would trust her. Happy Sardine Sunday, although my cats are getting poached salmon tonight. LOL
