I have a Dalmatian and it’s really hard to find a real good, safe, well balanced kibble that will also be low purines. Most contain organ meats or byproducts or sardines that can lead to crystal formation. My personal favourite is DARF cold pressed - it's a cold pressed dog food with 61% meat content (no meals), it contains around 30% vegetables and a small amount of grains, and it has no legumes. It's incredibly affordable, too.
I'm not really able to add much onto their kibble, however they do get some salmon oil and they get their meals via a slow feeder. I'm building up a collection of slow feeders so that they can get switched out weekly and therefore have more variety, and my plan is to give them different oils (salmon oil, flaxseed oil, omega oil etc) after each bottle runs out :). They also get 100% meat treats (like tripe, for example) and I'm trying to give them more veggies through the use of xylitol free peanut butter (like today, I gave them some celery and peanut butter after I saw a video of yours showcasing this and they loved it)

I found a kibble brand that does not use a high heat process in manufacturing, so there's no loss of nutrients and thus no added synthetic nutrients. I was wondering what your opinion is of this brand, Nature's Logic. Since I can't afford to feed a whole raw food diet, and want to minimize any negative aspects of the other forms of diet, I currently feed my dog a 3 part diet of the Nature's Logic kibble, freeze dried raw (by Primal), and canned (Nature's Logic). As you have pointed out in your videos, I want to give my dog a variety in her diet, so I vary the brand, the type of food, as well as the major source of protein - venison, rabbit, duck, turkey, salmon, sardine, pork, and lamb. I hadn't heard of Carna4 before, but am impressed by their quality, so I'm considering adding their kibble, or possibly changing out the Nature's Logic kibble. Would you consider doing a review of Nature's Logic and possibly compare it to Carna4? Thank you for all you do to educate pet owners in taking the best care possible of their precious fur babies!!

I’ve had my Laponian Herder on Carna4 for about a year and a half now (he’s almost 3yo) and he is absolutely thriving on it. So much so that I’ve had people stop their cars, roll down their window and yell “that’s a beautiful dog” at me while walking him. I almost wish I was lying because it’s kinda weird but it could be worse.
He’s been holding a steady weight of 57lbs +/- a pound or two on 3 cups split into two feeds a day. His outer coat is like silk to the point that even burrs tent to not stick to him unless he really presses into them hard enough to work them into his undercoat. Even his vet commented on him essentially being in ideal condition physically, he’s adamantly opposed to getting needles requiring a muzzle to get those done but I’m working on that, but he couldn’t be doing better when it comes to diet. Carna4 is hands down the best kibble I’ve ever had a dog on.
It is however quite costly. I’m at about $150-$175 CND per month and his bowl movements are a little on the soft side. Adding a high quality mixer or topper has significantly improved that however.
Really can’t recommend this kibble enough.

I raised dogs since the 90’s. Then I was feeding my dogs nothing but pedigree dry and can. I was young and didn’t have much funds then. And guess what they never had any issues. Fast forward to 2010. All my dogs started having skin issues. Spent a ton of money going to vets. They didn’t help. Tried all the premium pricy dog food. That didn’t help. I tried home cook meals. That didn’t help. I came to conclusion that it’s the environment. When I’m in the city and take the dogs to city parks they would have bad allergic reactions. So I would have to bath them almost everyday. But when I don’t have to be in the city and I’m living in a rural town with very low vehicle and human traffic the dogs are fine. Im able to let them roam free without worries of allergic reactions. I feel city environment is just dirty and filled with disease. I used to think it had to do with the food. Now I just feed them cooked chicken and veggies. Turn out to be cheaper than buying high end kibbles and freeze dry meat. And they inhale it like they been starved.

great video - why no grains? My vet said that some dogs need grain, unless they have certain issues and that if you don't provide them some grain it can be detrimental to them and cause other issues. what is your opinion?

My pup who turned one in August now has become extremely picky. I used to make her food, but now I do not have time and she noses up every food I tried. I'm going to try Origen Amazing Grains for the moment though I wanted the Spot and Tango but it's out at the moment. The other foods are just too expensive for me and I don't even know if she's going to eat them.

Thank you Rachel for this great content! I suffered the loss of my previous mini schnauzer as a result of many health issues that now I know, were because of me feeding her kibble prescribed and sold by my vet. I've been feeding my Cleo Carna4 for more than two and a half years now in combination with fresh toppings. Her weight is perfect, her energy is high and her coat is shiny, and she just had two beautiful and healthy puppies. We are keeping the female and of course we are going to feed her Carna4 like her mom. I wish that more pet owners know about Carna4 and could benefit from their excellent products.

Thank you for making this video. we adopted a 13 mo old (sad case) dog about a month ago. and she is coming out of her shell beautifully after having to of had puppies when she herself was a pup. anyways, my question is... Have you heard of SoJos brand of freeze dried food? and If you have, what do you think about it? I have done alot of research when it comes to picking our animals food. I can only imagine that our girl was probably given whatever food was cheapest, and I want to give her a completely opposite life than she had. This is my first experience with a raw freeze dried food and i don't know anyone else who uses anything but dry kibble. I believe it is made in Mn. (?) (we've been feeding it to her for about 2 wks now & she really likes it (smells yummy!) just wondering....

I wondered if you may have any recommendations for a dry food that could replace urinary CD from Hill’s. My dog is 10 years old, paralyzed, and has a history of bladder infections due to us having to expressed her bladder for her. She is currently eating the urinary cd formula dry food that my vet recommended but I’m looking for alternatives. Do you have any recommendations?

I am so fortunate to live close to a pet store that carries many of these premium brands--including raw diets. I am trying to get my little 6 pound dog to enjoy raw food, but so far, he still wants kibble--and Carna4 seems to be something he enjoys.

How did your dog fare on Taste of the Wild? I used that when my dog was 1-2 years old, then switched to Wildology the last year and a half (I believe they are from the same company). Just curious bc so far she does well on it and I appreciate the price.
I top her kibble daily with bone broth, hard boiled eggs and she gets plenty of veg and fruit snacks during the day.

Hi!! Loved the information you gave on the various products! I used to feed mine Hill’s Science Diet. I know, I know. Terrible! Haha. I have learned a lot because that is how my parents fed their dogs. I am now on Nature’s Logic. I would love to hear you thoughts on that brand. Pros and cons, etc. I wish I could do Carna4 as I only want the best for my dogs. But I don’t know if I can get it. Plus it’s definitely way more pricey. I have 3 dogs and spend about $400 per month on their food, which includes kibble, Keiffer, and any other toppings or treats. Would love to hear your thoughts or anyone else’s!

Can't afford the prices of these better feeds, but know they're best so what I've done is get a bag of Carna4 and mixing it with what I was feeding before which I also add a cooked a burger patty to. Hopefully it will be sufficient to keep her healthier in her old age. Wish I could feed full diet of Carna4 but money prevents it so doing the best I can.

Hiya - you mentioned that to make kibble more healthy you add fresh food to it. I read somewhere that you should not feed fresh and kibble together, as the enzymes to digest these foods differ, and therefore you should keep at least 3 hours (preferably 5 hours) between feeding kibble vs fresh food. What's your view?

This video, but I just do t have the budget to feed 7 dogs those brands at those prices. I am looking for a food to feed the adults when they are not pregnant, and also a high quality puppy food to feed them when they are pregnant and for their puppies to eat when they are weaned. I would love your suggestions and insight. Thanks
