Thank you for this video! I always recommend raw or gently cooked first to people, but they always want kibble so it’s hard for me to explain what kibble is best when I’m biased since I’ve only feed raw food to my poodle. Now I can send them this video to help them understand a great option for them and their own pets while still advocating to add fresh to the kibble as much as they can 🙏🏽 thank you for your hard work!!
What is your opinion on Diamond naturals? This was a food our breeder recommend. We also use open farm broths, freeze dried meal mixers and I always throw in fruit or veggies as toppers!
I have a 3 month puppy that’s eating natural balance limited ingredient single animal Protein Lamb & brown rice recipe. Is that a good food for him? Since I am a first time dog owner so new to all of this. Thank you!
Why is it that vets always recommend royal canin? but it has mostly just fillers and tons of carbs as it's first ingredient, 99% of the time? I use the small adult breed one for my maltipoo, since vets recommended it as the best, always. But I can't help but feel guilty everytime I look at the ingredients. Corn as the first ingredient just makes me feel like I'm not giving the best food for my babies. FDA has once stated grains are the number one killer for their hearts but I still don't see how it is. It seems to give him solid poops but I feel guilty feeding him corn as the first ingredient longterm like I said. I don't feed him just kibble, I incorporate wet cesar's food also in it, some dehydrated wet foods and sometimes sardines for omega 3s. Thanks for the video
I and many other vets believe they recommend it because it's what they're taught to recommend in vet school. They're taught the nutrients are the most important thing and where those nutrients come from isn't as important.
@@thebkpets Do you believe that part in vet education? For us, we're always conscious about where our foods come from. Apart from what they teach you, do you really think it doesn't really matter where kibble ingredients come from? And is it really safe to give my dog royal canin with corn as first ingredient longterm? Can't wait for the best kibble brand videos. Looking forward to watching that. Thanks so much again!
I think if what you are doing is currently working, stick with it and keep incorporating more fresh foods! But no, personally I think the ingredients matter just as much the nutrient levels. Saying "nutrient levels matter more" feels like an excuse so big corporations can use lower-quality ingredients while still hitting said nutrient levels.
@@thebkpetsI have the same question. I try to follow your advice on food options and for a long time you guys recommended open farm food. All of a sudden I don’t see you guys recommending it anymore so I’m also wondering if is still a better option than other kibble companies or is it not a good recommendation anymore?
It 100% is still a better kibble than most others! The brands we work with and recommend changes quite often so we can offer different things in different categories, but open farm is for sure one we still recommend ☺️
Manufacturing companies don’t care about making healthy dog food….or human food. They call it food-like items. Let that sink in. Who’s checking the “checker” (aka The Vet).
@@thebkpets you mean the research that the pet food industry financed and oversaw? The correlation is overwhelming, nobody should be giving grain free.
But to be completley honest, fresh or gently cooked is better if your going for those kibbles that go for like 100 dollars like if you can afford that -
Don’t buy any kibble for your dog!! It’s all trash! Make food for your dog. 4 lbs of meat- whatever is on sale, 2 cups of veggies and fruits, 1/4 cup of rice or oatmeal. Cook all together, and store in the fridge. Feed 2x a day with cup size that appropriate for your size dog. My 30lb dog gets 1 cup 2x a day and this recipe lasts for a week in the fridge.
It’s better to feed a kibble that is complete and balanced, adding water to at least hydrate it, than to feed an unbalanced home prepared meal. Please at least consult a certified canine nutritionist.

I’m just here patiently waiting for you guys to hopefully some day make your own food and sell! 🙃
I hate to tell you but you might be waiting a long time for that one! That being said, we plan to launch something even better than pet food :)

Just curious, what kibble do you feed? (When you do feed kibble in some of your videos)

Corn is GMO...HORRIBLE and toxic!!!!! Also, causes gut issues...did wolves go hunting in the corn fields...no...they want meat!
Can you please review Royal canin Golden retriever puppy and adult which is widely used all over the world 🤔
Tinned wild salmon best for omega 3
Are you still recommending open farm rawmix if raw is not affordable?
That’s a you decision! What we recommend and what everyone can afford don’t always line up so you have to decide where you want to spend your money ☺️

We have a “best kibble of 2025” video coming soon!
Carna4
Not all of them have the fibre content labelled.
Best thing is to not buy it but if you have to pay attention to the ingredients and carb content, add liquid and some fresh foods when possible.

Avoid grain-free! It's strongly linked to DCM, a fatal heart condition.
It’s not, I’d recommend you get up to date on the latest research ☺️

Easy: Don't buy it. 😆

@thebkpets Any time.
Believe it or not, not everyone can afford to feed raw.
@@AnimalShackOfficial Who said anything about feeding raw?
@@Zizzyyzz what are you going to feed if not kibble or raw? Wet food is pointless, just hydrate the kibble.
It's a wonder my dogs and cats lived long lives. Now I can't get those 5 minutes back in my life. You pet freaks are something else.

That recipe is incredibly unbalanced and missing a ton of key nutrients
