I really enjoyed your tour of the sights in Guayaquil. It looks like a great place to visit. One more drifter approved location for my bucket list! Thank you!
We had an absolutely brilliant time in your city! It was interesting, friendly, easy to get around and full of good food. We wish the best for Guayaquil in the future and we know it will always be a city we'd love returning to.
gracias por su visita..esperando haya sido de su total agrado la estadía en Guayaquil a pesar de lo mal que estamos pasando con el índice delictivo. bendiciones amigos..
Hi Roy. We really did enjoy our time in Guayaquil. Every day we were out and about exploring for hours on end. We'd love to return there again some day. We've already eyeballed a few more restaurants that we want to go to on our next visit. Thanks for enjoying our travels. 🤗🤗
Hello Marthe. We hope spring has sprung in Montréal. We loved our time in Guayaquil, actually it was one of our favourite places in Ecuador. The encebollado was delicious, especially at this particular restaurant. Soon we'll be seeing (and eating) plenty of fish 😉. We'll be returning to Alaska in June to process sockeye salmon again this summer. So there'll be no videos from us for a couple of months over the summer. Thanks Marthe for enjoying our tour of Guayaquil. 🥰🤗🥰🤗
@@ACoupleofDrifters At last spring is here, leaves in the trees and flowers are out and the sun, enjoyable period of the year. Looking forward for your return from Alaska. I will think of you when eating salmon. 😉🤗😉
I’m addicted to sanduches de chancho ❤omg the key is the sauce that it’s under the pork when it is roasting 👌👌👌👌 but the problem it’s not everybody knows how to prepare the delicious way …. 😢😅😅 I’m not a fan of encebollado but I love sancocho de pescado , bollos, seco de pollo the best soup it’s caldo de bolas de platano verde 👌👌👌caldo de pata 🍲👌Ecuadorian crabs 🦀 are exquisite 👌👌 and unique 👌the best ceviche de camaron it’s at the restaurant cebiches de la rumiñahui also there conchas negras asadas another level ❤👌
We lived off the sanduches in Guayaquil! After having our first one, it seemed they started popping up on almost every corner of the city. Cheap, tasty and very filling! 😍🥰
Really happy to see a positive video about Guayaquil. I know and everyone who lives in Ecuador knows that currently it’s not the safest, but if you leave the safety issues (and sometimes the heat) to the side, it’s an amazing city. Also glad you got to try encebollado, also that it was good, but you HAVE TO EAT IT IN PORTOVIEJO! It’s the best here. P.S., never expected anyone to call gators cute and cuddly LOL, just glad they didn’t hit you with their spin move 😂
Hi GM Ace. This is a lovely comment and we really do appreciate it! Thank you for seeing our video as a positive one. We hope others will feel the same way about this video - and the city - as you do. It's true: we really did enjoy our entire time in Guayaquil and we would most definitely return. We'll keep in mind your encebollado suggestion because we're always on the lookout for great food. Sanduches de Chancho were also a big hit for us and we'll be on the lookout for much more of them when we return to Guayaquil. One thing we promise to stay away from during our next visit to Guayaquil: The crocodiles on Isla Santay! 😂🤣
We're doing well, Joe! Send our love to all from across the miles! We'll be home for a bit in June, then we head to Alaska to work the sockeye salmon season.
Thanks for sharing! So....in the spirit of trying your style of living lighter my son and I are flying from Guadalajara to Tijuana for 4 days with only carry on daypacks with a few essentials, a phone and our laptop computers. We are NOT doing it on $15 a day because we found a nice little (but simple) AirBNB house with 2 bedrooms in a nice walking area of TJ and thought we'd treat ourselves (after being squished into a 28' RV for 6 months, LOL). It's a visa run so wish us luck AND now we hear TJ has become almost like a bedroom community of San Diego in many ways so we are looking forward to a variety of international food while there (greek, vietnamese, japanese, brazilian, etc.) Perhaps we will branch out and consider exploring Ecuador at some juncture just using our RV in Mexico as a sort of "home base"... But we've barely scraped the surface in Mexico...it's only been 6 months! Buen provecho y buenos viajes, mis amigos!
Hello RedSpiralHand. Yous are absolutely right to treat yourselves to the Airbnb. Van life/RV life can be a wee bit claustrophobic and it is so lovely to stretch out and have walls, doors and privacy as a treat😉! We couldn't even stand upright in our van, so on our very first house sit we kept walking around with our arms outstretched from our sides in awe of the amount of space we had, not to mention how incredible it was to stand upright without bumping our heads. Naturally we waited until the home-owners left before we started behaving this way 😂🤣. Have a brilliant time in Tijuana and good luck with the run. Enjoy some international bites and have tonnes of fun. 🤗🤗
Aw, thank you so much for your lovely kind words. We are sorry it's taken us a while to get back to you. We were back working up in Naknek, Alaska processing sockeye salmon from mid June to the end of July. After that we house sat in New Mexico for a couple of weeks and then we made a snap decision to come home to visit my family in Dublin. I haven't been home in 6 years!. We'll return to New Mexico to house sit until early December. Once we're house sitting again we'll have a wee bit of time to work on some videos. Right now we're enjoying the odd pint of Guinness 😉 and being back home in Ireland ☘️. Thanks again for thinking of us and for your kind thoughts. 🤗🤗
Hi Jim. We're not certain if that reputation has gone away. Personally speaking, we didn't perceive any dangers whatsoever and had no safety issues at all while in Guayaquil.
Guayaquil has security problems in outlying neighborhoods, so if you are a tourist you should go to touristically recognized places and there will be no problem.
I comfortably walk the boulevard at 3am by myself with no worries. DEFINITELY not recommended but it's not like ppl make it seem. It's like going to Vegas or Brazil. Keep your eyes open.
Guayaquil is very hot and muggy, and Isla Santay is very tropical and lush. We reckon the mangroves are probably likely breeding grounds for mozzies. We don't know if Dengue is an issue there though. Jerry swears by Tiger Balm to keep them away. I stick with DEET.

Hi Osiris. Yes, we'll be in Alaska again for the 2023 salmon season. In fact, right now we are anxiously waiting to find out to when we'll be flown out to Alaska by our employer. Will you be there?
Situations can and do change and we don't know what is happening in Guayaquil at the moment. We visited the city (and filmed this video) in January, 2023. During our time in Guayaquil we felt safe and had no issues at all.
@@ACoupleofDrifters well, if you visited in january and didnt feel kinda dagerous at all, maybe actually you would feel it the same coausei thhink it hasnt changed too much since january
Of course _we_ wouldn't feel unsafe in Guayaquil right now, however that is not what our response to *Traveler* is about at all. Traveler didn't ask if _we_ would feel safe there right now - they asked if it was safe there because people in Quito told them one week ago not to go to Guayaquil. Their exact question to us isn't served very well with a simple _yes_ or _no_ answer. We don't know what, if anything, is happening in Guayaquil right now which would prompt people in Quito to tell Traveler to stay away from there. We cannot honestly tell people if Guayaquil will be _safe_ for them. What we _can_ say for certain is what we've already said: things (situations) can and do change, which is common sense. To state our position one more time in no uncertain terms: Just because we felt safe and had a brilliant time in Guayaquil doesn't mean everyone will feel the same way and have the same wonderful experience that we did. We aren't guaranteeing anything to anyone. We really did enjoy our time in Guayaquil and would most definitely return for another visit. It's good hearing your opinion that not much has changed in Guayaquil since January.
@@ACoupleofDrifters of course, i get what u guys mean, and my point was since your visiting perception rather than comparin stadisticts general reality everyone always says. nice vid, keep it up!

When I was in Ecuador (a long time ago) Guayaquil had the reputation of being the least safe city in Ecuador. Any comments on safety issues?

And know the area you're staying in because the difference can be a half block between you and the hood.
12:20 So I'll bet that dengue is a "thing" here... I've been a little worried about getting it even here at Lake Chapala. I'm a mosquito magnet.
