- This is the film that i started with. My friend from CT. came out to see the rig.. and he just filmed the ride... This is not as fancy as the other clip.. But... You can hear what the truck really sounds like.. ( and I no longer own this rig )

For being over 50 years old, that truck sounds AWESOME.
YOU CANT BEAT ME ON THE GRADE
@mattlth In 1960 you had lots of engine options.. This rig was orig. equipped with a 262 Cummins... but a 220 NA. motor was also available.. even a gas motor as a base line option... The 262 died in the making of the David Lee Roth vid. called " She's my Machine ".. And was replaced by a 350 small cam Cummins.. Which the truck still has in it... So.. Yes.. That is the Turbo spooling up you hear .. When the truck is getting on the freeway..
I work on tractor-trailers every day the SOUND of the engines, impacts etc, takes a toll on your hearing after 40+ yrs
Yea.. My hearing is pretty jacked up too from years of truck driving..
Love the sound of that motor.
I would of cried my eyes out having to sell that truck, she's a beast.
If I saw it, I'd recognize it!
Love the sound man!
This vid is awesome! I love hearing/seeing that old girl. It makes me smile!! Wish I could own her!!!
"That S.O.B turned around and came back..."
I'm a fan of Duel since childhood, how I would like to ride in that truck! congratulations, a hug from Argentina.
Mixed reactions.. Some people did not even give it a second look.. Then there were others who just stopped dead in their tracks... Mouth open.. and pointing at the rig in Disbelief..
.
I would've been the latter!,9 years old in '71
Bro, if I saw this truck behind me I'm gonna be more than a bit nervous! LOL this truck gave me a good scare in that movie. I can't go to any railroad stop without thinking about this truck!
I saw the bucket fly off the exhaust stack.....lol......I always forget to take mine off daily...
duel is a great movie
I'd love to know where that truck is, Duel was one of my favourite movies.
Seeing it coming out of the driveway reminded me of the baddassness (is that a word?) that the truck contains!
This is both awesome and utterly terrifying to me. That movie gave me nightmares when I was a child.
Have you tried going 95mph in that truck?
Yes, and I'll bet those who were stunned to see it were all aged over 35. The youth of today are so blaśe and hard to impress that I doubt many would take the time to watch Spielberg's debut masterpiece. To them, this machine is just a greasy antique.
@allispuller1952 ,, The Tran's in that truck are 5x3.. Truck ran great when I had it.. ( it was a 350 small cam turned way up ).. The truck came with a 262 which coughed up a cylinder during a vid shoot... As far as the Manuel steering.. Not bad as long as the rig was moving..
if i saw that truck in my rear veiw mirror ill shit in my pants
Carry some toilet paper when youre out on the road
+robert szvetics hahaha me too!
Dear santa.........
you look kinda like kris krisoferson in convoy. lol
Forever mi faborit truck duel
Wow, that rig is friggin' awesome
i wonder how the people react in there cars seeing that truck cause about everyone watched the movie duel i would be like OH CRAP ITS THE TRUCK DONT GO PASS IT ;-;
It was an interesting mix of... Some didn't even care to.. OMG..!! IT'S THE FLIPPING TRUCK FROM DUEL .!!
WOW,, thanks man, that was a cool ride to be in that thing.. probably the most uncomfortable passenger seat in the summer time! sure the AC isnt working anymore, lol jk... thanks again
THE RADITATOR HODE!!
Road train Duel !)😀👍
such a badass old truck. Pete Nation!
What a fantastically terrifying monster of a truck!!!
She is a beauty. =)
@RexCars1 I beleive it! That's a very famous vehicle and I bet even the CHP knows what it is!
Awesome vid man. Duel is one of my favorite movies.
OMG i want that truck sooooo much!! I like the 5 by 4 shifting too.
I like how that exhaust cap (or whatever it is) flies off when the truck is started... LOL
i really this one man, i like it better then your other and that's pretty hard for me to say that and i heard the low rumble of the engine at 2:07, god i wish i could taken a ride in it just once
Thanks for the ride
I love this truck!
I love that sound duel is a great movie
Waaaau :-) Perfect movie truck. This is dream
Fred I love this movie
A nice piece Detroit historie
too cool,thanks for posting
@MrJevonmartin Well... Since I no longer own this rig ... ( like is say's in the vid ).. Looks like that choice is off the table...
I love the Cummins sound, like a group of bottles emthys, better without turbo.
Yes It does.. Turbo Charged Cummins..
that truck scares me
Awesome machine :)
Yes.. That was exactly what the mirror is for....
Thats how you do it, blow that coffee can right off. Hope to see you at Bob's this summer.
@joeylenseigne120 .. Well.. You have to remember.. This movie was made in 1971.. There were still a lot of narrow nose Pete's still working then.. This rig was purchased from " Oil Transport Co. " to be the back up truck in case the main truck quit.. ( again ) lol....
That truck should be saved no matter what! :) I'd be positively shocked to see it cruisin' or to see it in my rear view mirror :) Damn! That's a symbol of unstoppable deathtruck like Arnie is a symbol of Terminator :D
3:45 I bet that's one thing about the rig ya don't miss.
That's talent driving a rig like that. How did it handle in severe rain?
Super truck!
I bet the ppl in the cars in front of this truck at the traffic lights were crappin' their pants when this pulled up behind this pulled up behind them. Especially at 3:15 lol.
Of course I hatted selling that rig.. But.. Sometimes.. Things in life just take a turn where you have to do things you don't want to do. ( One being selling that truck ).. Just so glad that I got to own it for a while.
I knew it ;) Its sound is music!
Hello everybody i have a question whats the engine of this nightmare truck a how many horsepower have, thanks and really nice truck i love the sound
350 hp
If I ever saw this truck on the highway in a desert, I am turning the fuck around and going back to where I came from.
LMAO.. Yea.. i did spook a few people when i was driving it
0:03 a can on the exhaust
I wonder if some people hesitate to pass because they remember the movie? That old desiel sounds sweet by the way.
awesome
I've wondered what that mirror mounted to the hood was for? Perhaps to see the smoke out of the exhaust to see how rich the engine is running?
Yes.. Exactly..
You Can't beat on the Grade You Can't Beat on the Grade .....
Take care of the truck
Yes... 350 Small Cam Cummins
@FaceManPeck1 Because a lot of older trucks had 2 transmissions to keep it in the powerband better
This is in Burbank Ca :D
@RexCars1 they claim the one actually used in the movie was a 1955 281 that was repowered in the mid sixties with a 1674 caterpillar,it was a inline six cylinder, dual overhead cam 270hp,
its not so easy to drive it but i want to drive it. Congart t you @RexCars1
@RexCars1
I have seen a lot of other videos of guys driving twin sticks and I hear a lot of grinding when they are going through the gears. You never seem to have that problem though during the video. What is the proper way to drive these? How long did it take you to learn it?
They can be shifted smoothly, you just need to learn not to hurry
For some reason, RUclips will not let me paste the URL in this comment box, but type longroadpro into the RUclips search. The videos don't show up until you click on the more videos button. He made a bunch of videos of older experienced drivers driving twin sticks. He even has a DVD you can buy that's all about driving them.
Dennis Weaver
tres bon.....
@mechajason Yea.. I here ya.. The other vid is fancier... But. This is the real sound of the rig.. No music.. Just the truck.. and I kinda like that too......
Was the main truck the one with the twin stick? Or the regular 13 speed?
The main truck in the movie was a 1673 Cat.. With a 13sp
Really cool!!! Love the movie. What is the mirror on the hood good for? :o)
The mirror is for watching the Exhaust Stack.. Very Old School.
@ENCO12357 Hey there... I will be at Bob's this summer.. But.. The truck is in NC. these days.. It has a new home and is being well cared for..
It would be cool to be driven for a ride in this thing but a NIGHTMARE to drive it!
Well .. I guess that depends.. I spent 16 years driving trucks. and a LOT of them were old ones like this one.. Like everything else...Once you get the trucks groove.. not really that hard..
How did he get this? He bought it just like that?
If you're referring to the driver in this video. ( me ).. Took me a LOT of years of searching .. Bought it from stunt driver George Sack..
What flew off the top of the smoke stack and why can I see myself being so bold and actually learning and tryin to drive this beast of a truck? Im a busdriver of 15 years this coming October and to conquer and tame this beast would be a blessing and a great accomplishment. As ugly and scary as this truck appears to be,I can see"his" beauty and grace just begging to come out! Im sure in its hey-day"he" was. Its quite the challenge and yes...I would accept! #Justdriveit/drivehardordrivehome!
Tammy .. What you see flying off the stack.. Is just a coffee can to keep the rain out
@@RexCars1 oh I was just curious and amazed when I saw it! :)
I was like....uh-oh! Lol 😆!
OMG!!! how can i go for a ride in this??!! for real?? are you in Los Angeles?? best movie ever!!
Man people must freak the fuck out when they see this rig comin from any direction!
what did you do with the truck? Also...is that the actual truck used on Duel?
@flyboymd82 What makes you think that I haven't .???... :-)
@likestallwomen The truck you see here in the Vid .. Is a 1960 281 Pete.. And as far as me finding it.. Lots of looking and a lil luck...
@12325866 The truck started out with a 262 Cummins... It was later upgraded to a 350hp. small cam Cummins.... With the injector pump turned way up... Top speed of this rig was limited do to a low rear end ratio.. Since i sold it.. It has been outfitted with taller rear end gears for a higher top speed
where did he get it 281 are pretty rare peterbilts
I like that truck , I see you like to drive oversized stuff for fun , great hobby right ?;)
claudio bagagli painting!!!!
i wonder how did everybody else feel when they saw that thing pull up behind them plus it must have been a killer on gas or disel
How Did you get the truck and how much? yea would many people have known the legend you were driveing. im 27 so when i bought duel on dvd and despite some flaws in fliming its 1 of spielbergs best movies. And yes that truck is scary if i caught it in my rea view mirror id prb shit a brick lol
I'm pretty sure. ( been too long ) that the truck started the turn in " 2nd under and by the top of the ramp.. it's 5th over ".....
What year did you film this?
2004
Are you a truck driver in real life? And also, was it ever used on set of the film?
It sounds so unbelievably cool I could listen to that motor all day

I guess nobody can park across the street from you or else you wouldn't be able to get that truck out.
