I have just received my Bul SAS II Tac 4.25, shot my first 250 rounds through it without a hiccup and I love it, hands down this is the best choice. The Bul ate everything I fed it from Red Army, American Eagle, Remington, Fiocci, Winchester, Blazer, Speer Gold Dot JHP. It feels and shoots like a high quality gun, recoil is very manageable even though it is lighter than the Prodigy. The build quality and tolerances are excellent. One thing this you forgot to mention is that some of the components of the Prodigy are MIM, whereas the Bul are machined which is more expensive and much higher quality. I have shot the Staccato P and really enjoyed it, but it was hard to justify the price with the optic plate that is $ 948 more than the Bul. Considering the $ 1,760.00 price tag for the Bul that includes the optic plate and 2 magazines versus the Staccato, you can get 3 additional magazines, a holster and have the added bonus of $ 650 extra in your pocket to buy ammo!
You don't lose your rear sight with the prodigy. You have an optic plate that replaces the one on the pistol. That optic plate has a rear sight on it. In the bag, you get one optic plate to fit certain red dots. If you run a trijicon or holosun, then you must order a different plate. But all plates have rear sights.
What does it matter if it has so many failures to feed etc.? Nothing but really bad reviews for the prodigy. I wish that wasn't the case. I wanted to get one
@jasoncot777 I think a lot of those bad reviews were from people who didn't understand the gun. Granted, the gun has an identity crisis, but mine was fine when considerations were taken.
Have/had both. Not only does the Bul look/feel like a superior product it performs as such. My Prodigy was my first 1911/2011 and the few times it worked it was nice enough. I had a failure every few attempts (not exaggerating). Bout a staccato mag thinking that was the issue- it wasn’t. Sent it back to Springfield and than I got a failure every 5 or so rounds. Never got to 100 rounds before I sold it. Out the box, no lube or nth on at 500 rounds with my Bul with no issues. It is by far my fav gun
For the price. I just don't think you can do better then Bul Armory for the price they come in at. On par with Staccato. But hundreds of dollars less. I am very glad to find a company like them in the 2011 world.
@shanebarnes8830 both are great. But for the $700 difference between the two. And not having to spend another $150 on the optics plate. I'll take the Bul all day. I'm never going to spend$800 plus dollars replacing parts on the Bul. And if you wanted to replace all the MIM parts. You could do it for a few hundred dollars. Plus the mags are $20 plus dollars cheaper for the Bul.

Frankly, for those that invest as much or more than I do in shooting sports, the expectation of spending anywhere from $50 to $300 to replace a random part is so minimal as to be non-existent.

The practical difference between the performance of a Staccato or a Bul is so minimal that unless you're part of that 1%, you'll never benefit. So if you buy a Staccato because "it's so awesome" but you shoot fewer than 10000 rds/yr, well, just admit why you actually bought it. I know a few guys who have them, they may be big d***s, but I doubt the Staccato gives them bigger d***s😁

Very Nicely covered. I would not have Any problem choosing the Bul over the Springfield on this one. I am just not a Springfield fan myself and the Bul has long been one I have admired for the price point they achieved..
The Bul is without question a more refined gun. Simple things like the ejector for instance. The Bul is a tuned ejector with the cutout bevel to prevent the mag. lips from hitting it where as the S.A. is a rough, flat bottom with no relief cut which an owner will have to do themselves. Further, Bul is now using billett tool steel internals where the other is much lower quality JIM parts. Once again, the ejector is a perfect example. (Yes, Bul was using MIM but has stepped up and out in much higher quality parts, particularly in the fire control system. The trigger shoe is changeable for both length and color. Another touch of refinement. I was saving for the Bul, bot almost settled for the less carry friendly S.A., but the Bul was almost unobtainium. Very hard to aquire. I ended up going with the light weight Staccato C-2 which although higher in cost, I negated part of the cost by purchasing the non milled for optic model which was much lower in cost. As I don't care for plate systems, I milled the slide on the C-2 in my shop and hard fit a Delta Point Pro on the slide myself. Saved a lot of money, however, most people can't do this themselves so the cost savings is a non starter for most here as having a slide milled aftermarket is not onl rather expensive, there is the long weight for the slide to be returned leaving you without your highly anticipated new guns enjoyment. GRRRRR!!! I went overboard and ported the slide and bbl. on the C-2 and further milled the barrel and slide in the Genghis style comp. This further reduced overall weight while much of it was non recorating weight. It shoots like a mini Competition Race Gun that is now ultra fast and accurate. A win-win for myself. Hardest part was getting up the nerve to start the milling process on a brand new Staccato. Yep, Killed the Warranty, but then again, if the gun is made with quality parts and fit and finis, I really don't need a warranty in the first place. On the other hand, many S.A. customer were luck to have a great warranty for their new guns as there were real issues as the first ones came out. Happy they have now addressed the issues and the guns are ready to shoot off the shelf. The Bul offerings have had no such issues. :
Stacatto is for folks who have a bunch of money and don't know about anything else. Fine guns, but every one we saw at the Guardian Conference failed, likely do to not enough maintenance. You can't take a Bugatti off road.
That was exaclty the case with some of the users we saw at the Conference. Good people, good guns, but it's not a beginner's gun and requires a bit of skill and knowledge to shoot long term.
I have both. Bul Armory is worth the additional $400 or so. The Prodigy shoots great as well but I will be replacing all of the MIM parts because I don’t trust they will hold up to the amount of shooting I do. With the upgrades, the Prodigy will be nearly identical in total cost to the Bul Armory. The Prodigy also shoots very soft because of the additional weight. I haven’t experienced a failure with either yet.
I really appreciate the comparison. Having never shot either of them, and "test driving" the two before purchase is nearly impossible, this is a real service to me. I currently own examples from both manufacturers (more conventional 1911s), from experience and your excellent video, my decision is made.
Springfield actually made a double stack in the past. If I remember correctly it was very close to a Para ordnance 1911 double stack. Rob Leatham used to shoot one and I considered one myself but never "pulled the trigger" on that purchase. I used the Para Ordnance in 45, 40 and 38 Super when I was shooting IPSC. Then switched to an SV in 40. 👍👍👍
I always thought The Para and Rock Island and Springfield and even Remington were all using the same full size and commander size doublestack frame. Or at least 2 or 3 of these companies were I imagine. Remington and Springfield had them just a few years so it would make sense that they just built them up with regular 1911 parts they already carried since they are the same on both guns. The Mag release and safety (or ambi safeties) and the trigger shoe are about the only specialized parts that are different from their regular 1911's once they acquire some doublestack frames. (Some may have had a magwell add on as well) Also they would buy their doublestack mags from Mec Gar as usual for these, manufacturers, as they are different. The only way to know for sure is If I ever run across a Rem or Springer model and disassemble and compare them. Maybe somone that has all 3-4 brands can tell us for sure someday. Its kinda amazing its only like 5 parts that are different between a single stack and a doublestack once you have the frame for a doublestack. I have owned a few RIA's in both single and DS and have completely disassembled both many times. Para has some models that are nearly the same as the RIA but also had many models that were in between kinda. Short magwell frames, short barreled models etc. that RIA never has.
They did. I had a double stack GI model back in the day. Frame was made in Brazil by Imbel, slides were supposedly a mix of U.S. and Brazil. Mags were a problematic mess though.

You do not lose rear sight when you add a optic to prodigy. You have to get the aos plate by springfield. They have the same black out sight that's on prodigy on every optic plate by springfield.
I really want the sas, it's the one gun on my wish list and I almost bought it except, I don't shoot small caliber hand guns. I keep talking myself out of buying one for only that reason. I can't bring myself to go against everything I believe after 37yrs of carrying a firearm and actually buy a little 9mm. I live in a restricted capacity area anyway so I'd still rather have 10rds of 45 instead of 10rds of 9. I was hoping that bul would make a double stack 10rd 45 but from what I've heard, they have no plans to offer it in 45. So instead I bought 2 bul 1911 ultras in 45 but damm, I really like that sas in 3.25 and 4.25. Nicely done review.

After all the advances in 9mm ballistics and I read time after time,The suspect was shot 8 times and is recovering in a local hospital, or the deputy in San Francisco that shot a guy high on meth 7 times and he got back up and she had to shoot him 3 more times. It's a good round for squirrels and raccoons but I would never trust my life with it.
I would love an sti or bul armory 2011 to carry. But i prefer to carry a $6-800 reliable firearm since that would be one of the items police would confiscate for the investigation. Don't care to give up a $1500+ gun to them
If you want to put 20k rounds through a gun and have fun upgrading it, go for the prodigy. If you want a carry gun, go for the Bul. Love your channel and you don't lose your sight on the prodigy.
I hadn't heard of that, but I also don't use optics on anything I may carry. After running the Guardian Conference with the BUL I'm strongly considering making the SAS II TAC 4.25 my winter gun, especially after carrying the SAS II UL all summer.
My optic plate sheared off into the frame and it took a month to get it replaced by customer service. But overall I like my 3.25 Bul SAS II. I have the comp model and I think it helps mozzle flip.
Weird, my other response is gone. Wonder if my VPN flipped out. At any rate, I've seen a few discussions on social media about this issue. That's basically the issue, it's not a deal breaker for me given the overall package but I think it's something people should consider before mounting anything directly into the frame.
I just want to make sure that when folks go to buy the reality they purchase is what they had in mind. Both guns have their place, but some of the reviews I've seen out there might lead one to think the two guns are the same.
From the 30,000 foot level, it looks like the Prodigy is a total knockoff of the SAS II Tac. Frame connectors, take down push point, slide serrations, trigger guard shape, grip safety, beaver tail, etc. All virtually identical. Thanks for pointing out the differences!
Before getting both in hand, and by simply looking at the 30,000' level I thought they were similar, but with experience I found the build intent and application to be quite different. They both have their places, but are equivalents.
id go Bul Armory all day as far as fit, finish and feel, trigger and general shootability. i picked up a springfield in a shop recently, on the used rack,,, it felt cheap and clunky.
You know maybe if iwb holster for prodigy will fit tac 4.25? (Without light). I have bul tac 4.25 and i ordered tier 1 for prodigy (im left handed) and i hope it will fit good.
Nice job!! Firstly you do lose your rear site with adding an optic, the rear site comes built into the optic plate. I have a prodigy budget DS my azz all things being equal it’s a nail driver!!! People talk a lot about this firearm but no one saids it’s not a shooter! The law of physics says that a heavy gun will manage recoil better than a lighter one! As I say if you put the difference in the price in upgrades on the prodigy it levels up to a staccato without the hefty price tag! Shoot it and tell me I’m wrong!!!
Haha, I apprecaite that but I'm not trying to sell anything, just trying to help people understand what they get with each firearm. The what and why. I've seen very few "bad" guns, but met a lot of people who bought something only to realize it wasn't what they thought it would be. Why did Springfield market the Prodigy? Easy enough question to answer. Competition? No. Self-defense? No. Collector investment? NO. They produced it for the same market they sell their cast receiver M1As and their (formerly) Imbel-manufactured 1911s...those that don't realize that SA Inc is a fairly young company, has nothing to do with the now-defunct US gov't facility, and first an importer, second an assembler, a very distant third, a manufacturer, and they have NEVER been a developer nor have they ever contributed to the development of anything. Sort of a Century Arms, but one that's too dishonest to say so out loud.

I get the frustration with Bul Armory - they are seemingly impossible to find. I've been to gun shops all over the eastern half of PA without seeing even a used Bull Armory of any flavor, let alone a TAC model. I've never met anyone locally who owns one, and the only one I know for certain exists in my area belongs to Jon over at TheGunCollective (whom I haven't met yet...). I'd love to try one since it seems like it might be the kind of higher budget pistol I'd be interested in saving up for. Maybe someday...
@@GBGuns I thought maybe I'd see a used one to at least handle the thing, but nope. My hands are large, and I can't imagine buying a pistol without at least holding it beforehand. I could add a Hogue to it like I've done with my Masada or rubber tape like on my KS22, but somehow that would seem wrong with a piece of art like the SAS
The SAS 2. is just plain a better gun hence the cost difference. No sense spending this kind of money for a gun that had feeding issues. The BUL eats. anything .. Springfield can't say that
The 6 prodigy optics plates all come with a rear sight built-in.....Do a little more research before doing your videos. A little more info would go a long way to a better video on your part.
Be ause the Prodigy is affordable and available. It serves as a frame of reference. It's like comparing a gun to a Glock 19; it's not because the Glock is some amazing firearm, it's because everyone knows them

Recently picked up a SAS II TAC 5. Shoots like a dream. With my optic and light mounted with full mag it weighs in at 46.5oz.

Not to argue with you but I wouldn't put it on par with Staccato. Bul armory does use MIM parts so for longevity Staccato will last much longer

I got rid of my prodigy because of inefficiency. The bul has served me well and the sights are compatible with a red dot.

Got a prodigy for a range gun. 500 rds later 3 of my other guns went to new homes. I guess I like it.

Have you looked at the energy you can get from 9mm from a 4.25" barrel? It may surprise you.

People been having their optics shear off into the frame of the bul, so something to consider given bul's slow customer response time.
I hadn't heard of that, but I also don't use optics on anything I may carry. After running the Guardian Conference with the BUL I'm strongly considering making the SAS II TAC 4.25 my winter gun, especially after carrying the SAS II UL all summer.
My optic plate sheared off into the frame and it took a month to get it replaced by customer service. But overall I like my 3.25 Bul SAS II. I have the comp model and I think it helps mozzle flip.
Weird, my other response is gone. Wonder if my VPN flipped out. At any rate, I've seen a few discussions on social media about this issue. That's basically the issue, it's not a deal breaker for me given the overall package but I think it's something people should consider before mounting anything directly into the frame.
Also, the bul armory has a steel frame version as well.

I just want to make sure that when folks go to buy the reality they purchase is what they had in mind. Both guns have their place, but some of the reviews I've seen out there might lead one to think the two guns are the same.

From the 30,000 foot level, it looks like the Prodigy is a total knockoff of the SAS II Tac. Frame connectors, take down push point, slide serrations, trigger guard shape, grip safety, beaver tail, etc. All virtually identical. Thanks for pointing out the differences!
Before getting both in hand, and by simply looking at the 30,000' level I thought they were similar, but with experience I found the build intent and application to be quite different. They both have their places, but are equivalents.
I would take the Bul over Springfield any day!
id go Bul Armory all day as far as fit, finish and feel, trigger and general shootability. i picked up a springfield in a shop recently, on the used rack,,, it felt cheap and clunky.

Sadly Speed Sights don’t have 1911 models.

It likely will. I've used my Tier 1 Concealed holsters for a 4.25" SAS II TAC for multiple guns.
You do not loose rear sight when red dot goes on sights do co exist
IMO if your gonna run it straight out the box get the bul if you wanna change and customize i would take the prodigy
Nice job!! Firstly you do lose your rear site with adding an optic, the rear site comes built into the optic plate. I have a prodigy budget DS my azz all things being equal it’s a nail driver!!! People talk a lot about this firearm but no one saids it’s not a shooter! The law of physics says that a heavy gun will manage recoil better than a lighter one! As I say if you put the difference in the price in upgrades on the prodigy it levels up to a staccato without the hefty price tag! Shoot it and tell me I’m wrong!!!
I like to know about both IWB and OWB holsters for the BUL

That depends on the application a little bit. The UL is easier to conceal, the 4.25 is nice on the range.
You don’t lose rear sight on prodigy with red dot. Well at least I didn’t.
The $1k difference shows. Am I blind or is that not a magwell on the prodigy? It might be smaller but it sure looks like a magwell

Haha, I apprecaite that but I'm not trying to sell anything, just trying to help people understand what they get with each firearm. The what and why. I've seen very few "bad" guns, but met a lot of people who bought something only to realize it wasn't what they thought it would be. It's a major motivation for this channel that we help people understand the guns they're considering buying.

Why did Springfield market the Prodigy?
Easy enough question to answer.
Competition? No.
Self-defense? No.
Collector investment? NO.
They produced it for the same market they sell their cast receiver M1As and their (formerly) Imbel-manufactured 1911s...those that don't realize that SA Inc is a fairly young company, has nothing to do with the now-defunct US gov't facility, and first an importer, second an assembler, a very distant third, a manufacturer, and they have NEVER been a developer nor have they ever contributed to the development of anything.
Sort of a Century Arms, but one that's too dishonest to say so out loud.

Are the bul slide compatible to prodigy vice versa?
I have never gotten Bul Armory to respond to an email or web request. It an impossible gun to buy
They responded to me, but I know they have a pretty small staff in their FL, US Office.
Prodigy has too many negative reviews for me to invest in. I would buy the BUL if I could actually find one.
To find a BUL Armory you have to order them. They aren't distributed and pushed to dealers like the big brands.

I get the frustration with Bul Armory - they are seemingly impossible to find. I've been to gun shops all over the eastern half of PA without seeing even a used Bull Armory of any flavor, let alone a TAC model. I've never met anyone locally who owns one, and the only one I know for certain exists in my area belongs to Jon over at TheGunCollective (whom I haven't met yet...). I'd love to try one since it seems like it might be the kind of higher budget pistol I'd be interested in saving up for. Maybe someday...
You likely won't find one in a local shop because they sell direct to consumer rather than through distribution
@@GBGuns I thought maybe I'd see a used one to at least handle the thing, but nope. My hands are large, and I can't imagine buying a pistol without at least holding it beforehand. I could add a Hogue to it like I've done with my Masada or rubber tape like on my KS22, but somehow that would seem wrong with a piece of art like the SAS
I wear XXL gloves and have room to spare on these pistols.

Does it matter? Metal Inuection Molding has advanced A LOT since the trouble days of the 70s.
The SAS 2. is just plain a better gun hence the cost difference. No sense spending this kind of money for a gun that had feeding issues. The BUL eats. anything .. Springfield can't say that
The Prodigy plates include a rear sight so you do not loose it.
The 6 prodigy optics plates all come with a rear sight built-in.....Do a little more research before doing your videos. A little more info would go a long way to a better video on your part.

Be ause the Prodigy is affordable and available. It serves as a frame of reference. It's like comparing a gun to a Glock 19; it's not because the Glock is some amazing firearm, it's because everyone knows them
