Interesting thing is that this was written while he was at the height of his addiction and he still had so much insight. I think this was definitely written from a dark place. He had two uncles complete suicide, his mother has significant mental health issues, he had a suicide attempt before he was signed and his ex-wife has had several attempts. Big family history. Kids turned out really well though from all accounts being a father was the most important thing to him. I like your reactions they're very thoughtful.

This song was one of my daughters favorite songs and at age 29 she tragically died. I couldn't stop listening to it and the lyrics about and when I'm gone just carry on don't mourn ...rejoice at the sound of my voice. ....It's heartbreaking and I played it at her memorial and there wasn't a dry eye. ....This song is something very different to me.

I've always thought this entire song is a clever double entendre. The clearest theme, and the one you've examined very thoroughly, is the relationship with his daughter. The obvious meaning of the chorus and the song title is that Eminem is telling his daughter to remember him after his death. But the other theme is Eminem realising that his career (and in particular his alter ego "slim shady", a name he used in his earlier albums to voice some of his most controversial lyrics) might need to come to an end so that he could look after his children. In that sense, the chorus and song title are a message to his fans - don't be sad that I've "killed"/retired slim shady, just rejoice when you hear my songs. Indeed, there was a 5 year gap between this album and his next, which I suspect allowed Eminem to become a more full time dad. I don't think most people consider the possibility that this song is also his goodbye to his fans because he realises that he needs to prioritise his family, not his career.

Yeah, that's what I got too. When I listened the first time, it sounded like a goodbye letter to his daughter, but then when I listened again I could see it was also a goodbye to his fans and he was going to "kill" his slim shady persona.

At the start of the second verse he says "I keep having this dream," and everything after that is a dream, his daughter piling boxes, the room turning into a stage, daughter being in Sweden among the crowd, and him killing himself.
Also Kim tried to kill herself by cutting her wrists. This was after they broke up and got together again. Eminem was going to perform at a concert and asked Kim to attend. Kim said she would only attend if he did not perform a song called Kim where Eminem brutally murders her. Eminem agreed but then performed the song anyway in front of her and the rest of the crowd. This caused Kim to try to attempt suicide. This is why the song says "help mommy, her wrists are bleeding."

From what I've seen on other reactor channels, Eminem videos don't tend to get blocked for the most part. Probably because Eminem highly approves of reaction channels.
Also, Eminem is a fantastic father. He not only raised Halie, he adopted his niece Alaina (Kim's sister's daughter), and Stevie (formerly known as Whitney), who is the daughter of Kim and another man. And he did a wonderful job with them. And when Eminem was starting his career he took his brother out of the foster care system and took him in. Eminem plays the bad guy in many songs, but truly has a heart of gold.

What I've also noticed, and I don't know if this is just my theory but: everything that happened in his dream, is what actually happened. Not the fine details, but the rough outline of it. He didn't have a happy ending with Kim, everything didn't just stop and suddenly became easy. When he wakes up and everything is good all of a sudden, I think that's what the real Eminem was dreaming of. And the song kind of turned it around and added in some details.

I think this is the first reaction I've seen that actually could keep up with this song in particular. Some things you were wrong on, but most of them weren't in the song itself, just more small things about Eminem. You caught the fact that the plane crashing wasn't an actual plane like so many non-fans or channels thought it was. It was indeed a symbolic plane crash! And yeah, the song is more a representation of how he feels and what he wants to show both her and the world.
It is NOT a candid retelling of real life events, like some seem to think. I'm not trying to be mean, I understand it when someone who isn't a "Stan" doesn't quite understand him or his songs! I'm a lifelong Stan, but I also struggle to understand many other artists or meanings etc, that other people understand and relate to!

From someone whos parents weren't together, my mom and dad always respected each other. For the most part. Even though my father couldn't provide child support my mother new how close I was to my father and never kept me away from him. He made me feel like I was on top of the world. He's the one who gave me confidence. I lost him when I was 13. I have abandonment issues that I am trying to work on because of it. My Dad was a big fan of Eminem. Not Afraid is my favorite Eminem song. Since he had addiction issues and it makes me feel if he listened to that song before he passed it would help. Though he always did his best to provide for me so I will always love him for that.

Eminem: A battle rapper that got famous overnight and doesn't know how to deal with the imdeiate change in his life
Slim Shady: a physcopathic being and whenever in a song when he's talking about something horrible or doing something wrong it's him

I know my son just wants to spend time with me so I've really tried lately to do something special with him every day. Even if it's just an hour or two. He's what drives me every day and I find now that I'm trying to make time for him every day it helps me make it through my work day even more. love the video as always! 😊 i believe if you cropped the video a bit, changed the colors up a bit in a video editor, add a decent sized ‘watermark’ in one corner and obviously give proper credits in the video / description, plus with all that and the fact that you pause it to give monologue/ have the actual video in the corner with the facecam covering most of the screen that you would completely avoid the copyright infringement while still showing the video a bit more. either way, loved the insight, keep up the good work. 👍

I see there is a lot of wrong information about this song in the comments.
This song is not written for his daughter, it’s written - or released anyways for us fans, as en explanation. In the summer 2005 Eminem was supposed to do a European tour, actually starting in Globen, Sweeden (I live in Norway, next to sweeden and still have the ticket🤩) Due to him being confronted by his daughter that he constantly neglecting his family for his career, and him actually was pretty heavily overworked he decided to cancel the complete European tour. This song with the video was released that year so we could feel, see and understand why he “let us down“.
I just gotta say I love watching this. This is taking lyric breakdown to a new level for me. And the reason I love this so much, is I can really feel that you haven’t listened to Eminem before. You have heard of him, but not listened. And now as you are listening, you are taking in all the genius and complex - yet meaningful lyrics he has provided us. As I am watching, I can really sense that you actually appreciate the songs, the stories, and it seems that for every song you break down, you discovering a new treasure, and this really makes me glad! Also, as a long time hardcore fan, I have my opinions about the underlaying meaning of things, but I really have to give you credit for picking up stuff I yet had not thought the exact same direction about!
Keep up this, magnificent work, I really, really like this.
I hope you can find time to do "Sing For The Moment”, “White America” and “My Darling” in the future☺️

I LOVE this reaction! Eminem is such a powerful storyteller but more importantly I love the message that this isn’t something super rare, this is a struggle a lot of parents, especially dads, face. I think men in general have a huge disadvantage when it comes to mental health and seeking help for that, and I want to encourage more to go to therapy or talk to anyone! Therapy personally helped me so much. Dads out there or anyone: please don’t be scared or feel pressured to not reach out for help! It’s not shameful to not have all the answers

The whole visual was a dream. Basically, he was working/touring constantly and had inner guilt knowing he wasn't around his family as much as he should have been, he had a dream (most likely triggered by the feeling of guilt) where Hailie came to one of his concerts which was in another country at the time. The most important thing to Em was always being able to provide so his kids wouldn't have to suffer the way he did but he realized he was making them suffer in a different way and had to better balance his work/home life. He didn't tour for several years while Hailie was growing up. He went to his label and basically said I have enough money to last the rest of my life, I want to do tours in shorter legs so he could go back home and be there for a few nights a week and the label agreed because it was that or no touring at all.
The shooting himself was more of a metaphor that he was killing the old "shady" in order to be there for Hailie.
As a father of a 6 year old girl, I relate to this in so many ways.

I really really enjoy your reactions to these songs. Something about seeing somebody a little bit older that typically would be turned off by Eminem. Or has their own opinion of him based on what they've heard about him and some of his songs. I really like seeing people get to here are some of his other songs and not just the slim Shady persona that people tend to associate with him. Seems like you enjoy these kind of songs. A little bit more about his real life and stuff like that. So I wanted to make a couple of suggestions of songs. I'm sure you have a ton of requests. But anybody who is in m&m fan I'm sure would agree these are good songs.
Castle and arose. They are two separate songs but they go together. Just need to make sure you do them in that order.
    Guts over fear
    In your head
    Bad husband
Stronger than I was (he basically sings this whole entire song. It's about his struggle with addiction)
Never Love again (another song about his addiction. This whole entire song is amazing)

@@ReactionTherapyOfficial I would also suggest one of his most famous songs called cleaning out my closet, its about himself, his childhood and the relationship with his mom. Its not the most positive of songs, but its an explanation of who he is, how he grew up and why hes the way he is. Follow this up with headlights where he apologises for that song in particular now hes older and without spoiling anything "gone through some of the things he blamed another for in said song"

One of Eminem's songs "Mocking Bird" is in a similar vein where he's singing about/to his daughters and it definitely pulls on the heart strings for sure. So far you've listened to some relatively tame tracks from Eminem, he's got quite the wealth of tracks to pick from but the further back you go in his discography the more graphic and/or nonsensical things can get but a big part of what made him stand out and really drew attention to him was that extremely graphic controversial material. By all means feel free to explore his earlier material but some of it is absolutely not for the faint of heart. If you want something newer, do yourself a favor and react to "Castle" and "Arose" from his Revival album. Do them together because they really should be one song and maybe make sure you're listening after something else that's really heavy.
