Great to have done it on all 4. Nice one! I had my 2nd ever try on the Ouse yesterday, got a decent Barbel on a 7ft Wandzee that I really picked up for the kid. No idea what I'm doing yet, just took my gear/baits from commercials.
Absolutely James, and just enjoying the nature, match fishing can be too intense for me to do all the time, I need a bit of R&R especially after a hard day at work.
This is the first time I have seen your channel and very impressed. You explain what you're doing and show your rig set up, which is very handy if someone is new to fishing for Barbel. Also very well presented.
Thanks Rich, I always try to make my videos easy to follow and comprehensive. Lots of content on the site covering a wide range of venues and techniques. Enjoy.👍
Thanks John, if you want to catch barbel, you've got to put a few hours in. I don't mind sitting out a bit longer on a warm summers evening, there's worse things I could be doing😉
Thanks Ian, it's not really a chore sitting on your backside on a lovely summers evening by the river, watched a bit of the TDF whilst I was waiting 🚴😉
Great video John and thanks for the mention. I wouldn't worry about the low light it adds atmosphere and your excitement shone through. We have all floundered about in the semi darkness with a fish then stumbled back to the car feeling great.
Thanks Steve, I did what I could with the cameras and post video enhancement so you could at least see something, it's never easy trying to adjust settings on action cameras, they're not the best low light tools. You deserved a mention mate, I used Korda N-Trap on the hair out of my carp kit...I just stripped the plastic coating off it, it's quite stiff so probably makes it harder for them to spit the bait.
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel D'you have to get permission to be there after dark? Don't think you can be there then at all on the Park section. Shame as the Barbel really get going at dusk.
The river is fishing well without it but the real big uns come out when it's running chocolate and you don't have to fish into darkness, I prefer daytime sessions but needs must sometimes.
Thanks Clive, it nearly didn't happen, glad I repositioned the rod. It just goes to show a few yards either way can be the difference between catching and blanking.
Cracking fish you had JB, they're coming along like buses for you now👍 I want an Ouse double, it'll be my main focus after i tick the Derwent and Ure off.. hopefully. So many great venues and not enough time.
Cracking vid john,i think i walked that stretch couple of weeks ago,so not only a great watch, but tips too,you are the gift that keeps on giving pal 🙂🙂
Well done John. Persistance pays off with a lovely barbel. Few tips i would shorten the hooklengh to 1 1/2 ft. Shorten the hair if using pellets to touch bend of hook. And use hard pellets like halibut soaked in oil or 12/15mm boilies. Wrap boilie or pellet and hook in some fishy paste so they suck the lot in. Great video as usual mate. Tight lines
Thanks Nigel, glad you enjoyed it pal. The Ouse is a bit experimental for me but I'll take the tips on board, one question, why do you recommend the shorter hooklength?
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel i wouldnt go super short. Minimum 1 1/2ft but i think it is, a good optimim length which allows a bit of movement as they suck in the bait in but then feel the weight of feeder or lead and bolt without having the opportunity to blow the bait out again. But again depends on water clarity and speed of flow. Tight lines
A fortnight ago that peg gave my mate a 9lb fish well just over if I'm splitting hairs , cube of meat did the trick just out past the willow to your left hand side , anyway they all count John big or not they still give you a buzz when you get them . 👍
Well done m8 you truly are an angling addict beautiful barbel sometimes it ain't the size of the fish it's what it represents being at one with nature just when it's getting dark the whole peg becomes different, smells different

I missed my barbel session last week as went bream fishing and this week I've signed onto a Wednesday match so won't get the opportunity again, not to worry though, it's the Derwent when I get my next opportunity.
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel A lot of people say the river Derwent is a very hard river to catch “ mr barbel “ and Mr moore and his buddies were on the Ouse yesterday and he had a really nice fish. The Derwent isn't as hard as it used to be, there's plenty of barbel in it now, you just need to be in the well oxygenated water below any of the weirs.
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel 🤣🤣🤣 that’s john boy for ya 🤣🤣🤣. Well it looks like our rivers are fishing well even in these dry times and that’s good. Beautiful place to fish John. Brilliant footage and commentary, the church bells reminded of fishing in the UK 🇬🇧. Excellent fishing knowledge to cast where the fish were rolling, doesn’t matter what size the Barbel was, it was your intended species and with your patience you netted a awesome fish. Well done Jon Well deserved pal. Love theses river fishing videos and please. Keep they great content coming mate. Absolutely fantastic and well done again mate. I absolutely love river fishing personally
Thanks James, it might have been a bit bigger, but if you say it and don't weigh it, then you know what some people are like. It wasn't worth the risk to the fish keeping it out too long, it was the day after the heatwave.
Nice John! The Ouse has been very kind to me early season (as you've seen on Facebook 🤣)...I wouldn't usually touch it until Autumn but this summer has been cracking. Little tip, I use a short hooklink, around 12 to 18 inches maximum, of 12/15lb gravel braid. Helps with those finicky bites when you're convinced the fish should've hooked itself. The barbel on the Ouse are not shy, even in the early season. Give it a shot, might just help 😁
Hi Liam, you've had some nice fish, I'll give it a go mate. What's interesting with the setup I was fishing though (15lb big game straight through) is that the double float stops allow me to vary the hooklength from the lead at will, so I may just try shortening off first if you say they're not lead shy. Keep crushing it mate, I'll be back on it later in the season, it's the Derwent next up for me.🤞
They're definitely not shy pal. I had 4 in a few hours the other day and every bite was a screamer. My guess on the first plucks would be bream, not too many chub show their faces in the Ouse. I can count on one hand how many I've had hahaha
You get a lot of chublets at Overton and there's some good chub pegs on beningbrough park length which Leeds used to have opposite bank at nun but you can't go down that far now. Ive had some chub from the opposite side (widdington) so they're certainly there bud and where the boat channel is up at the top of the second field, is amazing chub fishing on the float
Great video as per usual. Great atmosphere with the chiming clock. Have you fancied having a go for a Derwent barbel . I had a session today had one bite took off like a train and straightened hook out . So Barbel 1 me nil
