  • Banjul is the capital city of the Gambia, a small West African country bordered by Senegal. The city sits on an island where the Gambia River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Its colonial buildings include the National Museum, dedicated to Gambian culture and history. Vendors at the lively Albert Market sell colorful textiles and local produce. The city's main entrance is marked by the immense, columned Arch

    My line of work takes me to several African countries (as well as Asian countries), Gambia being one of them. Many years ago I first came to Gambia, not only was Banjul very clean and well organized but in fact all Gambia. Now to see so much trash, dirt and junk strewn everywhere makes me wonder how can any decent person accept to live in such squalor. The only possible places one can point a finger on as being a bit worse is Yemen where the sight of so much trash is honestly depressing, but sorry to say this, Gambia is quite close. To see a tourist bus parked does add a touch of sarcasm as to what would a tourist would want to see nowadays in what was once a beautiful and charming little capital city Banjul was, truly shameful to be honest. Alas to say this, many African countries suffer from this very same sanitation and trash problem.

      You are certainly a blind traveller. I always cringe when someone claims to know everything just because they travelled. India, Bangladesh have the dirtiest streets with piles of trash floating in sewage. The Gambia looks cleaner by far.

    • @TheVeelkrow
      @TheVeelkrow 7 месяцев назад

      @@Accuface2000 and you are even a blinder person who does not understand what a person talks about. When I say that Gambia is dirty it means it's dirty whether you like it or not. You are free to your silly opinion but not free to describe me for mine. When I first went to Gambia it was in 1975 and I don't know if you can remember or not, it was a far cry to what is it now. Now you can cringe till your teeth fall off.

    • @TheVeelkrow
      @TheVeelkrow 7 месяцев назад

      @@Accuface2000 not as blind as you though. Certainly those countries you mentioned are very dirty and hopefully Gambia is a little better, however you do give the impression that, yeah, it's OK, we're not as dirty as them, so that's OK, we can sleep tight. No mister, wrong, Gambia is dirty and filthy and we see how close Gambia is getting to India, Pakistan or Bangladesh, yes, someone like you should cringe in fear and say, we must at all cost avoid getting there, we must do everything to reclimb the ladder upwards instead of downwards as you seem to advocate. By the way, have you been for instance to a place like the Brikama Market during the rainy season? Did you buy meat, poultry, fish or vegetables and fruits from vendor stalls that were barely a hairline above the floating sewage? Did you go to Manjai to see the squalor there? The dirt and filth now in Gambia has become culture and its getting worse every year, no one seems bothered NOT to litter, everyone just eats and throws things down the roads and pavements, if your blinded eyes do not see these horrible things, then of what good are you to the nation? Do you want Gambia to reach the state of places like Liberia's West Coast or the deplorable slums of Lagos? Is it what makes people like you happy? Instead of cringing at constructive criticism, why don't you join people like me who are doing everything to make Gambia a better place? Shame on you, you definitely have a long way to go.

    Banjul used to be so clean and well paved and maintained and I'm guessing because of time of less congestion it was easily managed but that is not an excuse for littering all over and being so disorderly and unorganized... I don't know when did people start being so messy and just don't care about the health of the 😢environment..The City Council needs to get on with it and clean the city for crying 😢 out loud..A country is judged by it's Airport and the looks of its capital city structures and Modern design buildings as a SIGNATURE MARK of any Nation..
    Thank you for the view and I hope it reaches BCC..( Banjul City Council)

    Remembering the ''Set Settal'' days in Banjul when the community came together to keep our city clean. It's disheartening to see the decline in cleanliness and maintenance. The government has a crucial role in ensuring our capital stays sanitized. Let's work together to restore Banjul's former beauty.

      That’s crazy because I was just about to comment this looks relatively nice compared to other African cities I’ve seen. I’m highly interested in African nations and why certain parts of Africa seem to be in conflict all the time when they are such beautiful places, amazing people!, and most of the countries have vast natural resources. Do you think it’s the tribal nature making people see their neighbors as very different from them, and possibly that divide being exploited by big corporations to make money. But at the same time while I’m sure that it’s very possible someone else is pulling the strings causing people to engage in conflict I can’t see how chaos like that is better for people making money than safety and security and things running smoothly. It really confounds me I’ve watched so many traveling videos from Africa, the people for the most part are always smiling and nice, and I’ve known many African immigrants in America and they’re always hardworking great people. It really confounds me why many African countries seem to be locked in unending conflicts

When people think that it is ok to throw rubbish on the street and litter the beautiful earth God has gifted to us then the outcome is what we see here. As a people we really need to have some sense of shame and do better and the Government should invest resources into waste disposal or face the risk of vermin and disease.,
