Great find! I currently use the 18 month moleskine as my daily journal. There’s only a tiny date on top to cover up even if you buy an outdated version.
You can use whiteout over the days of the week and use this as a 5 year planner or just as a full 18 month planner starting in July and going forward. Great find!
There is also another lady's videos about Moleskine daily diary (also outdated) that she used as a notebook disregarding the dates. Congratulations on a great find!
@powthekicker8765 I have used old planners for notebooks for years! It's simply using otherwise perfectly good bound notebook, with the addition of random dates- for which you can use as a prompt to use varied journaling paraphernalia.
@@SeaweedKisses absolutely! My on-the-go notebook is a cut-down version of a daily journal that I never really got to using. It´s a thick notebook, lovely 70 gsm, off-white paper. I just cut it a little bit smaller so it´s even easier to carry around and rounded the corners. Voilà!
I will never stop being frustrated by the way Moleskine does their monthly calendars in these planners. If they got rid of all the random time zone pages, etc. they'd have enough pages to do two-page monthlies and have a much more functional planner.
I hate that they have eliminated the world holidays. it's not necessarily because I need the dates but the holidays were also indicated in the calendar on the dates. I don't want to have to look up everything. Also it's better to have a small reminder on the day rather than having to write them in myself. Maybe I'm just lazy but I found those "page fillers" to be very helpful.
You really let that paper have it!! HA😂😂😂. Have you ever tried archer and olive? Their paper is way more forgiving and can handle watercolor and fountain pen ink.
Because my favorite weekly planner layout is moleskine and hobonichi weeks only (and the weeks is too small) I went on a quest to figure out a fountain pen and ink combo that works. What I learned is that my vintage pens, I use a Sheaffer Balance that’s nearly 100 years old, coupled with a heritage ink brand, Sheaffer or Parker Quink or Mont Blanc, works great on the moleskine. I also learned that the modern Platnium Preppy with an ef nib and any ink that isn’t really wet also works great. Right now I’m using my Balance with Microfilm Black Quink (yes, that’s vintage ink), but I do have other Sheaffer pens of 1930s and 1940s vintage that work equally well. I have a Lady Sheaffer from the 1960s I’m not as happy with in the moleskine.
I did actually notice a big difference in paper quality between two of my moleskines and the main difference (I didn’t think to check manufacturing) was that one had the QR code and branding printed on the end pages, and the other didn’t but had the pamphlet. (The better quality paper was in the pamphlet version, that I got on sale from staples). You could really tell the paper was less porous and the ink sat better on the surface instead of getting immediately absorbed and showing the pulp texture through the fountain pen ink. I’m glad to have a few copies with the better paper, but I’m not holding my breath re: finding more.
I mean, I still wouldn’t call it fountain pen friendly exactly, but depending on the ink there’s the potential for little to no bleeding with regular writing so I’ll take my win 😂
This year, I bought a daily and a weekly. The daily has a yellow sticker, and the weekly has a blue sticker. The one with the blue sticker can handle fountain pens, and the one with the yellow sticker is so bad! It could be a coincidence, though. Also, Homegoods has been flooded with Leuchtturm lately!
Ahh, I see. If I ever come across a blue sticker, I'll be sure to make note of this. Thank you for the heads-up on Homegoods. Going to check this week! Appreciate it!
I am keeping this one and returning my moleskine expanded because I ordered 3 expanded moleskines and they all came with the bad moleskine paper. This daily one had the good paper that actually takes highlighters I assume because it’s older.
They must've noticed an influx in orders for this notebook because the price jumped to $12 now lol. Still a deal though! Thinking of getting one for sure :)

I enjoyed your review very much. Can you consider to doing a non-fountain pen review? I am interested in that Serasa (sp?) because of the nice colour. But I am always interested in new pens for journalling in particular. I am not so interested in fountain pens as I don’t seem to get along with them very well. Everyone these days seems hooked on the Twsbi, but I bought one at the end of last year (cost around €80) and the ink seems to pool every time I use it for some reason. The nice thing about fountain pens though is that my handwriting improves enormously with them. Perhaps you have a favourite non-fountain pen for the same reason?
I love my 18m daily. I need a page per day to keep track of everything. The 2024-25 planner has 608 pages listed so even better. Should have by tomorrow. Previously, they listed it as 592 pages. Can't wait to see why more pages.
I am SO switching to getting old calenders for my junk journals instead of regular notebooks I'm thinking about just cutting off the strip with the date on it, to make room for a pen loop within the cover... normally I put a pen loop to stick the pen in on top of the book, but if it could be placed actually IN the book... anybody think this could work? 🤔
I used to love Moleskines back in the day when they first came out, strong and durable, I wasn't into fountain pens back then but I remeber jotting something down with an old Parker I was gifted and it worked fine. Nowadays, I had to ditch them because I realized that they are simply not worth the money, the paper is just crappy in every possible way, for the price they are asking, there is MUCH BETTER on the market.
