I own a G70 in Canada and have nothing but good things to say about the car and the dealership experience. I do know that American owners can't say the same and do hope Genesis gets that part sorted out soon. These new SUVs from Genesis will really make the brand stand out and wish them all the success.

Whereabouts in Canada? I am in Edmonton Alberta and the closest service centre for the GV80 I have pre-ordered is Leduc Hyundai. That dealership is awful. I read complaints about its sales and service department probably two or 3 times a week on the towns local "Rant & Rave" Facebook page. To be honest.... the lack of a sales center or service center is the thing that worries me most. It's almost as thought Genesis is testing the waters.... not willing to commit in case their brand crashes and burns. The way it is currently, they could close up shop with minimal damage and leave us all high n dry. This isn't a Tesla...... these automobiles require more servicing etc...

That GV80 is what I believe the Infiniti JX60/QX60 should’ve eventually evolved into. The power, detailed aesthetics, & value in Genesis products lets me know they’re serious about what they’re bringing to market to grab their share and shake things up; I absolutely love it.

For me personally, this is far and away better than anything in its class. Let me just say if you're getting a luxury mid-size SUV you should not be purchasing it for the most torque power, best racing or handling. That has become a different category in its own if that is a priority for you. Just as long as it performs well enough to merge you onto a speeding highway you should be happy with it. You should be purchasing it for comfort, style, tech features and comfort of driving and of course price.
In a class where everything is cookie cutter in terms of design from 20K-70k, the gv80 stands out or like you said, a presence when it walks in the room. My current car is a range Rover sport and I have been looking for the past year for a luxury mid-size vehicle under 70k. I reserved the 2.5 prestige package which I think is about 62k, back in June and they kept pushing the release date back. I did not want to wait so I continued to search and nothing compared with it when it came to style, tech or price. Not Jaguar, bmw, mercedes, cadillac, Maserati, infiniti, lexus or aviator. The aviator came close but the crazy tech surpasses anything aviator offers. I searched for a good month and nothing had what the gv80 brings in terms of style and tech.
You get out of the car, push a button and it will park itself. They told me I will be receiving it by the end of November. Before anybody replies, if you are a badge loyalist you can just save your time because I am not and I will not waste my time with somebody defending a vehicle for the pure sake of wanting to be a company man with a blind allegiance. Sorry, not sorry.

are so many GREAT choices at that price point that I'm also not sure how the Genesis brand will fit in! I think the value for the dollars spent is there and if you're not hung up on the
brand name then YES Genesis is appealing! I'm looking at another SUV right now and plan to purchase a vehicle in 1st quarter 2021 so I'm definitely interested! The longevity and

Yes Motoman, there will always be those who pride themselves on BADGE recognition over the real value of what something is worth! I don't happen to be one of them. It's probably why I chose to buy a Hyundai,...Great quality, good driving dynamics, lots of tech & safety kit, and the best warranty in the industry. I don't care about snob appeal, I care about what's in the vehicle, how safe it is & what kind of tech' does it have. Hyundai/Kia & now Genesis are proving to those that think like me as well as to those who normally wouldn't consider buying a HYUNDAI, because the badge on the front grille is not Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi. But more than that everything in the vehicle works as advertised unlike some of the famous German makes mentioned. For my money this Genesis GV80 & for that matter all of their other models are great cars & SUV's,...With quality that's supercedes those other makes, & with all the tech' and safety systems one could ever need. And their all great values, as my Hyundai is as well. The third row isn't a big deal in a midsize SUV but if this was a full size than yes, I think a full size needs to competitive to a caddy/Lincoln. But for this gv80 I think that 2 rows works for now until customer demand grows

I agree with the other comments that the sweet spot is somewhere more in the middle with the V6 retained. I believe the challenge for this vehicle will be more in house than outside. Those that have driven other competitors (BMW, MB, etc) sometimes gravitate more to that dynamic feel even though they are more expensive. However, those that do not might have a harder time justifying this much higher price vs the Hyundai and Kia Telluride offerings which have similar content and functionality since those buyers are already making the value choice. I'm not saying the vehicles are the same but at a reduced price i feel the Palisade and Telluride make an even more compelling case than Genesis vs European brands.

I find it very logical, that Genesis only have the 3rd row seats in the 3.5 V6. You need more power when you are 7 people in the car. What I don't get, is the lack of captain's chairs on the second row. That should be an option. At least in the top version.

The premium you pay for the GLE and X5 is for the better driving experience and badging. Also, with the X5, you'll get better discounts and it will lease better, so the X5 is the real value play between the three, which I realize sounds weird to say.

The big grill and front end design looks much better on a SUV versus the G80 sedan in my opinion. Overall I think the GV80 looks good. I’d like to see a little more power for this segment. Especially in their top trim model. Over 400 horsepower should be a given considering that you can get a Ford Explorer with more horsepower than this. Overall it’s a nice vehicle but I don’t know if it’s got enough to make me choose one over something else.

For the over 40 crowd, I see the 'badge' as being less important. Maybe it's a matter of maturity and/or life importance. I'll be replacing my Lexus soon with an SUV. Genesis, along with another Lexus, a Cadillac or a Lincoln are under consideration. Lincoln badge isn't what it once was 40 years ago. Comfort, amenities, style, reliability (as I buy and do not lease) and value (in that order), is what I'll be shopping.

Genesis probably will offer deeper dealer discounts and higher lease cash from manufacturer and much lower money factor. MSRP doesn’t really matter when it come to leasing. After All genesis is a luxury brand and this is their strategy to slowly sway customers from the German 3 brands. Genesis was not created to compete with sub luxury brands like Acura, infinity or even Lexus

    • @deleebar
      @deleebar 4 года назад +1

Given the pre-orders for this GV80, I doubt that they’ll discount the current MSRP. In fact, with the success of the palisade and telluride, there have been dealer mark ups of those cars rather than mark downs. Will be interesting to see though

I would take this over the GLE even if the price were closer. I would buy this over the X5 even if I saved 15K on a well equipped X5 (because I don’t like to spend time at the dealer). Sounds like their engines just need a little more tweaking to get to Lexus and German refinement. But if you’re shopping this against the Volvo...it’s Genesis every time because it looks so much better and it doesn’t have the sure to be problematic twin charged unit and it probably handles as well. (Houston has terrible roads and ride in some Volvos is fussy.) I would expect the refresh version to be a really super vehicle.

The move to make is wait 3 years as Genesis depreciate like a rock but have a proven track record of reliability and low total cost of ownership. Wait for a 36 month lease trade in with low mileage that is sold CPO for $0.50 on the $ or better yet wait 3 years for the GV70 which should be better in almost every respect to that of the GV80.

Looks to American (Lincoln). Also interior is nice, but looks more for older folks and bit boring, especially the steering wheel. Exterior in my opinion will not age well. Overall I would wait for a mid recycle in a few years.
It’s all about preferences theses days with so many options. Don’t sleep on the MDX Type S next year. I know it will have less horsepower, but seems will look much more sportier with the A-Spec edition and Type S. Wider also.

I agree with your thoughts on the price. My BMW dealer can get me a 76k fairly loaded X5 40i (air suspension, soft close doors, led sky lounge, etc) for under $70 which leases great. I hope Genesis is going to launch with an attractive lease, otherwise the Genesis is going to be a difficult choice.
