@@v.a.n.e. no, what she/he meant was that they shouldn't have to be lucky to have the right to freedom, it should just come naturally.
@robert porter these are animals that have come from farm settings where they didn't have many rights or freedoms to begin with. We also need to take into account the fact that these animals would not survive in the wild by themselves due to the way they were raised. The space in which they currently live in might be nothing compared to them being able to run freely wherever they please in the wild, but this is the point this comment was making. These animals shouldn't have to be rescued from abuse and rehabilitated in order to have a happy life, they should be left in the wild to live out their lives without the interference of human beings :)

I truly appreciate the words Ed uses when speaking about the animals and their abuse, factual and no sugarcoating! With the farmer who "loved" her cows, that's cognitive dissonance on another level, so happy that they are now at surge sanctuary.

1:09 My dad has a cattle farm and he raised his cows naturally on a beautiful landscape of Kentucky meadows, creeks and forests. He put up salt for them and kept hay for them in the winter. He was so good to them, let them live out their lives naturally and only tagged and sold the babies. But according to my brother, my dad was heart broken with my choice to be vegan. He doesn't understand that he had a huge part in it. I saw the beauty in the animals, but I also heard them crying for their lost babies since I was young, every year. I lost my mom very young and so it hit home for me at a young age. I can't understand how he doesn't agree with veganism. They're not "just animals".

A lot of time farming is the only way out of poverty, and to succeed in a town consumed by it. Many farmers don’t have the training, education, or stability to completely switch careers, even if they only change to farming plants instead. Many farmers are on contracts that keep them from doing so too.
@@stephi7260 i think individual farmer's situation is different. Very oftne it's a question of CULTURE not poverty. Some of the richest people in the world own huge ranches where thousands of animals are abused, and it has nothing at all to do with poverty. far from it.

I was already eating a vegan diet for health benefits, but seeing the eyes of cows and pigs sealed the deal for me.

Most vegan vids make me sad because it's eye opening towards the cruelty of animal agriculture. Its important sadness because we need to spread the truth. But Surge Sanctuary provides such positive and reassuring examples. Thank you!
Is it? This animals can't survive on their own. They are going to waste land and resources that could be used to produce crops and feed more humans, wouldn't that be better for humans and animals over all, specially the environment? And when those bulls grow up, what they are going to do with them? Adult bulls can't stay together or they will kill each others. Unless they castrate them, but even if they do that they need to monitoring them. This is not a good solution overall for the planet or for the animals themselves. This is just to make us feel better. Also yes this old cows have lived more than the majority that stay in dairy farms, but if they lived in the wild they wouldn't live to this age either. They would have died a long time ago. The lambs is the same thing. If the mother died giving birth to them, on the wild they would have died instantly. Only humans can maintain them alive.

@@manuelsilva6244 yea only humans can become they they are the ones who selectively bread them for thier own selfish needs. And regarding wild cows and sheeps.. I live in india we are one of the most biodiverse country in the world, we have many wild cows and they live for many many years and I have never seen a wild sheep (any species ) die because of child birth, because we did not screw up their physiology so suite our desires.

The reason that this sanctuary has to exist is because of the breeding practices that the meat, dairy and egg industry are reinforcing. Ed and Surge are just cleaning up after the mess that animal exploitation has created.
If you don't like to "waste land", then go vegan! By eating a vegan diet, you reduce your footprint regarding land use by about 70 %.

What an fantastic place for all the beautiful animals, it's like their own paradise. They look so happy and content, just being able to roam free and feel the sunshine on their backs. You can see it in their eyes how happy they are and how grateful they are having a safe place with the love and care from their angel caregivers. Thank you to everyone from my heart who made and makes this possible. Thank you to Ed for further educating me and opening up my eyes a bit wider. I have been a vegetarian the majority of my life and I thought I knew a lot about the cruel treatment of animals but I feel stupid that I wasn't aware of certain things but I guess it's all about learning and becoming aware.

I’m really happy you are making these videos. Every time I turn on nursery rhymes for my son, a bunch of them are about farms.. and it paints dairy farmers and egg farmers as great people who care so much about their animals. It’s good to show him videos like this one where he can see where these animals come from, and where they can go when given love!
Please let me know when the Earthling Ed nursery rhyme album comes out 😂
