65 YO today and was sitting in the Denver coliseum throughout the 60's and 70's watching the best rock music ever written and sang in history. My hippy van parked outside full of Hart 8 track carts passing the peace pipe throughout the stadium. Everyone happy, no violence. I thank God for those days, at least the ones I remember...
The magic of no internet. Word of mouth spread the songs on a few radio stations. Then, like nuclear fission, the songs took off. I recall blasting my car radio to this song until the speakers began to buzz, time to back off the volume. That's how we listened to such great music when we "boomers" were kids. Lord, I miss those days.
Ann is one of the best female vocalists EVER. And man....did Roger Fisher smoke on guitar or what?! They were in top form here. Would love to have been at that show...
The back story on this song is fascinating. Ann told Rolling Stone that the 'magic man' was early drummer Mike Fisher, brother of guitarist Roger, who later became manager then sound man. She says she was living at home, 21 (and "young for her age"), when she was singing for the band while it was called White Heart, met Fisher, fell in love, and followed him from the north Seattle area to Canada in 1972, where he was living to avoid the draft. Her mother was against the move. The lyrics, "Come on home, girl," Mama cried on the phone, "Too soon to lose my baby yet, my girl should be at home!" "But try to understand, he's a magic man, Mama..." are especially poignant all these years later, now that I'm a father of a daughter nearly that age.

I missed most of the party as I was 9 but I remember how unregulated we were. Dogs were allowed to run loose in the burbs, we lit off fireworks in the streets and burned camp fires in the local woods. No bike helmets, helicopter parents...seatbelts were low on the priority list.
@@kevn99 No joke on the seatbelts. I don't even think child safety seal or child proofing was a thing back then, either... My parents owned a cabin in a rural area of Colorado, and it was really rural back then, no people or walmart around every turn. I used to go on long hikes by myself for hours in the National Forest behind our cabin. I was probably 8 to 10 years old at the time. These days, I wouldn't dream of letting my own kids just take off unsupervised in the woods at that young.

That new all girl LeD ZePP tribute band (I'm too old and to lazy to look right now) is just as good as any of those bands mentioned and really hot! Yet all female from rhe past is the runaways! The best musician in heart is the lead guitarist and the drummer who are both dudes! The whole band was epic but everybody forgets the dudes I heart! My daughter thought heart was a 4 piece all girl band til I showed her what was up! Either way heart was bad ass and those two lady's are musicians and can hold there own with any two legged packet packet strumming or humming! They are flat out one of the best live bands all time! In the Rock top 10 for sure! I'm not huge fan in that I never owned a lot of their stuff but the first time I caught Heart I was blown away and I've scene a large amount of rock bands! I be scene them 5 times and they sounded great, hit every mark and played their asses off! Nobody gave a shit about that argument where heart is concerned cause we all know those lady's can play! She still has her voice. All you've done is prove its more about looks than the cannon voice Ann has.
She's happy. Are you Brother?
@@bigmac2941 Yeah, because obese people tend to be really happy. Just because she's talented and has a great voice doesn't mean I can't point out the fact shes unhealthy and fat nowadays. I'm terribly sorry if the truth triggers you.
I'm only 53 years old, and I think this is better than anything around today.
OOdie Smith heh heh. 😂
I agree with you 110%. These ladies were just freakin awesome and they blow the doors right off of what they call music today...
I am too and I agree.
Who's replacing her? Taylor? Katy? Miley? Rihanna? Hurl!
Only?
Happy Birthday! 🎉🎈🥳
You have always been one badass girl... Love you long time!!! 😂 Still listening to you after all these years!🦋
Who else is still listening in 2022? 🤷♀️
It was 1976.....seems like only yesterday.....because it was.....time advances quickly.....and The Wilsons still rock.....
Ugh...that sounds amazing!
yup' those were the days Tim there was magic in the air or was I just California dreaming
@@daffidavit boomer to boomer, roger that
Great decade for music, probably the best.
I like this song in the 70's
I still like it in 2021
I'm 23. And I remember Heart being my grandma's favorite growing up. I SEE WHY!!! AMAZING!!!
Ann is one of the best female vocalists EVER. And man....did Roger Fisher smoke on guitar or what?! They were in top form here. Would love to have been at that show...
Ann is the best!!! And yes, Roger Fisher, good god he was awsome!!!
Effortless vocals
Werd baby werd.....love that crazy tuning....just brought out a diffrent style....that high e tuned to g...
Roger Fisher is one of the most creative and underrated guitarists in the history of rock n foll.
I was at several of their shows in 76 and 77 They shtedded and picked it to the bone
Dreamboat Annie came out in 1976 and is stil one the best debut albums ever made. It just one fine rock and roll classic period.❤❤
All killer, no filler.
Side A was perfection.
Im so in love with 70’s Ann she’s so bad ass😭😭 wish I was alive then
The back story on this song is fascinating.
Interesting
THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW ..PS SHE IS A GODDESS
I just wrote that I always thought it was about Charles Manson!
@Bob Loblaw all that coke/heroin/lsd is a huge reason why that music was so good
JusBidniss
- Thanks for sharing that bit of info !
I've enjoyed this group since the very first time I heard them (in the 70's, on Los Angeles, CA radio station 94.7FM KMET... ("the mighty met"... owned at that time by MetroMedia)
How beautiful was Ann when she was younger! What a woman, what a voice!
And she didn't even dress slutty, like they do now, they ALL dress like sluts now
And notice how she isn't twerking or hunching the floor, microphone, drumset.......
Classy lady.
And she was skinny too
She still has the voice & the presence, we all get older. Check out their Live concert & Stairway to Heaven. You don't just have to be just good looking & young.
beautiful girl amazing performer. genius
My "Dreamboat Annie" LP is signed by Ann and Nancy Wilson.
that is perfect...
I'M SUPER JEALOUS
Then, it must be a fake, since it's "Ann" Wilson. LOL.
Roger Fisher might be the most underrated guitarist ever, Ive never heard about him before and hes just amazing
FF yes! I've always thought that! I wonder what he does today?
Truth
This song i played with fisher tuning, a process where he over tunes the E and A strings. That's what makes it so hard to play correctly.
He can't be that underrated. He is a member of the Rock and Roll, as is Howard Leese.
He's up there eddie, neil Schon,Steve Lukethur,Alex lifeson among the few mention
I had tears in my eyes as I listened to this song. ( Gotta reassess my life man)!
They were and still are underrated ads a band😁😋✌By the way I met my love of my life when this song was playing!
Me Three!!!!
No you don't. I had tears too and I think it's cuz I remember the beauty back in the day. I was honored to be alive then.
hay man, remember, that night got caught by the park for overstaying, you disappeared at the ravin, we all got a ticket.
GOOD TIMES...!!!
70s were the best times to be alive in America. I was 15 in 76 and it was a party and nobody cared. Today we are over regulated and miserable
I missed most of the party as I was 9 but I remember how unregulated we were. Dogs were allowed to run loose in the burbs, we lit off fireworks in the streets and burned camp fires in the local woods. No bike helmets, helicopter parents...seatbelts were low on the priority list.
I couldn't have said it better!
These days, I wouldn't dream of letting my own kids just take off unsupervised in the woods at that young.
unsure, we have global warming, and Donnie rollbacks on regulation created a lot of bad environmental chaos....
Same as Jaw Tooth but up here in Canada.....I was a good kid until I got my drivers license and discovered GIRLS and boy did we have fun! We have one thing to hold on to that NOBODY can take away....memories!
In 1978, I met a guy at a play. Our eyes met, and everything was settled. This was our song, and he IS a magic man.
lucky you and he too hope together
Tell us the story
@@robholl5245 Our marriage only lasted 10 years, but we are still the very best of friends. I adore his wife and her kids, and I am blessed because they love me, too. He and I have been together in various relationships for a million years. We're going to keep doing it until we get it right.
Eye settle everything with mine also .
One of my all-time favorite songs.
Carrie Ann Luikens this one is for you baby girl
Their live sound from back then was incredible , paired with such a powerhouse of a band . Lots of space between everything . You don’t here that much anymore .
Hope their crew was well paid.
one of the best voices in rock music
Hello , how're you doing, I hope you are doing fine. I'm David from Houston, Texas. Where are you from? You seems like a real Country girl😊🌹
now that's fuckn rock and roll!!
+frotis lover fuckn A Bubba
+frotis lover this is my favorite Heart song tied with Barracuda
Wow. Not even the biggest Heart fan but this is pretty damn sweet. Ann looks incredible and that is what a real singer sounds like, all live, baby.
First time I saw Heart was watching Don Kirshner's rock concert show on TV (I think it was like 11 or 12 on Friday nights) and was completely smitten with Anne. Growing up in the south most of the girls are blonde but I knew then brunettes were the ones for me.
Twotontessie well !! I assure you that if you start listening to their art (that's what it is) you then will become a big fun, I suggest one by one from their beginning (dream boat Annie) until at least (private audition) then you'll go with the rest...!!!
@@marioduran3309 They are amazing.
Wow....I was ten years old when this vid came out....I wasn't aware of Heart til my late teen years....LOVE Ann and Nancy FOREVER.............................
The song that made me their fan at 5 years old hearing music in and out of the house. Always loved this sister duo. And Ann is so soulful. ❤❤🌹🌹
I have seen Heart over 30 times in concert.....they have been the best....never a disappointment.....great energy, great vocals....fantastic shows each and every time....to me..these ARE the women of ROCK‼️‼️‼️‼️
Right On Sister. !! !! .............
Magic Man, Crazy on you, Barracuda makes Heart the best female rock band all time.
+James Avant Well technically they aren't female rock band since they're not all female. That honor might go to The Runaways.
it also makes dreamboat annie one killer album - not even counting all the other quality stuff on there - certainly one of the great debuts
If you can play nothing matters but only a few can play!
that makes the Wilson sisters one of the greatest bands male or female
Da best
Cold, late night so long ago
When I was not so strong you know
A pretty man came to me
I never seen eyes so blue
You know, I could not run away it seemed
We'd seen each other in a dream
Seemed like he knew me, he looked right through me, yeah
"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"You don't have to love me yet, let's get high awhile
But try to understand, try to understand
Try, try, try to understand, I'm a magic man"
Winter nights we sang in tune
Played inside the months of moon
"Never think of never let this spell last forever"
Well, summer lover passed to fall
Tried to realize it all
Mama says she's worried, growing up in a hurry
"Come on home, girl" Mama cried on the phone
"Too soon to lose my baby yet, my girl should be at home"
But try to understand, try to understand
Try, try, try to understand, he's a magic man, Mama, ah
He's a magic man
"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"I cast my spell of love on you, a woman from a child"
But try to understand, try to understand
Oh, oh, try, try, try to understand,
He's a magic man, oh, he's got the magic hands
Oh's over top
"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"You don't have to love me yet, let's get high awhile"
But try to understand, try to understand
Try, try, try to understand, he's a magic man, yeah, oh
Wow. I came here to hear Ann's great voice and I got blown away by the guitars (and all instruments) on this version! Soooooo good.
They've got 3 amazing guitarist..,OMG...
The main (crunch) rhythm guitar plays the rests as tightly as the chords.
Just look at her . The most fantastic women who has ever existed .
I know im late but which one.
Ann or Nancy?
"Women", plural. Must mean both.
@@deszmonddewitt9607 All about Ann!! Scroll up silly!!
Saw them in concert in 76 and they were great!
It makes me sad I won’t be able to experience a concert like this :(
I am sad that my kids will never know what music is supposed to sound this band went out and poured their soul into their music for their fans I still play this album when my DJ son isn't scratching and scrapping vinyl to make some crap that would make your ears bleed thank you Heart
Why not? They’re touring.
Still love this song and band 43 years later.
This Live version outshines the professional studio version. Wilson's voice is so electrified and playful. You listen to them back to back and you'll find this one's so much livelier but then again Anne sounds terrific in everything she sings.
My mom would dedicate this song to me. I started dating older men & hitchhiking to Daytona beach ❤ I had so much fun. Different times definitely!!!!
Just incredible. I wish that lineup of Heart could have lasted forever.
Same here, this line up was electric and fantastic. They were never the same after. No offense, they still have plenty of talent, the Wilson sisters. But this line up was amazing.
Love the sound @ 4:10 when Ann was howling happily, I felt what Ulysses tied to the mast saw and heard from the sirens. :D
Thomas IV thats the sound you hear at the Pearly Gates.

Its enchanting
