I'm 50 years old and have listened to Mozart, Sinatra, Pavarotti, Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath and so on. But by far the most immaculate, flawless and perfect example of pure a Marshall stack driving guitar punch with Bon's ball busting heart felt lyrics leading the way in one ROCK album is surely POWERAGE BY FAR and BAR NONE, Amen.
Yeah totally agree with you on that. Have been listening to many artists for the past 40 years. Then got into the band and read a biography on bon and things made sense. Totally awesome band and so clever but things seem a bit corrupt to me. Perhaps that's how it was back then
It is in my top 3 of best ACDC songs. The trouble is I can't decide on the other 2, too many to choose from! But Shoot to Thrill would probably be in it, and maybe another one from Powerage like Sin City. Actually Downpayment Blues is number one, because it's musically unique - no other song in rock n roll has a simple riff like this, of just two cords but in 4 different tone heights, that keep you guessing throughout where it's going. Add to that amazing lyrics and you've got this timeless classic.
Malcolm’s right hand. It’s just glorious. It’s my favourite part of the band sound. All through this era (at least up until Brian) of the band Malcom would usually open up the riff and add to it, usually beginning with the second verse or the outro, while Angus stays locked on the basic main riff. It just adds so much depth and grove. He was - and is - the rhythm guitarists rhythm guitarist and the only guitarist I’d ever want to be. Genius. Had to edit this for some clarity.
not sure if anyone cares but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can stream all the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been streaming with my gf lately =)
Powerage...the greatest album from the greatest rock & roll band at the absolute top of their game. If you didn’t see them live in ‘78 or ‘79, you missed it. Touring Powerage and throwing in some Highway to Hell, those were two fun summers.
Who ever says Brian can't sing just don't know what they are taking about. Brian has a great bluesy voice. He can reach notes other rock singers can only dream about. Unfortunately AC/DC long tours and long live sets and years of smoking rolled up ciggies have taken their toll. He's still one of the best around I'd go to watch him sing nursey rimes. Great singer!
One of my all time favorite songs. I could listen to this song 10x a day for life. The way they make those Marshall amps ring out is just awesome classic AC/DC Gold. It cannot be replicated or duplicated. I Got the Down Payment Blues!!!!
Thanks for putting this out. To me this is who AC/DC was and forever will be. Thank you Brian Johnson, you walked into a very difficult situation and took this band on a 40 year plus run. “No I ain’t doing much, doing nothing means a lot to me.”
AC/DC makes me smile every time I hear it no matter how down or angry I might be. My wife always drops in Let There Be Rock when she thinks I need cheering up and a couple songs in I am grinning and my head is bobbing. I am 51 now and have been listening to them since my first 8-track Powerage in the late 70's. I have seen them about 20 times, but alas, we shall see them no more. Thank you for being an uncompromising force for Rock & Roll and teaching me about the horrid Jack!
My first was powerage on 8 track I was 8, ,born 1971. I wore that sucker out I was so hooked and just a little kid. I heard song shot down in flames playing in my neighborhood. Fell in love with that guitar. Walked downtown and bought it with ones and mostly change.. more to story short version. Cheers,!
Bon respected Brian, that's why they invited him to sing after Bon died. I think Bon would love the way Brian sings his songs. Bon said Brian knows how to rock, and he has been doing it for 35 years. I think it's time we give Brian a break and just enjoy the great music.
Nothing against Brian, he has done a great job in AC/DC. That said, the Brian that Bon could listen singing with Geordie was a very different animal from the Brian in AC/DC. In Geordie he was mostly using a clean voice, very bluesy, while with AC/DC he started screaming and using a raspy voice.
I've been an AC/DC fan since about 1978. I remember Bon Scott dying, I remember discovering that the band were Scottish, I remember seeing them at the Apollo. I remember the best ever Rock'n'roll ever. Please don't argue about 'who is the best', you will NEVER encounter another band like this ever. Try taking some time to appreciate them. For me the 'growling SG sound is enough. I'll wear my heart on my sleeve and sy, "Angus, Angus, Angus...."
Brian does great on this song! Bon would be grinnin' ear to ear if he heard this. This is my favorite song from Powerage, which is my favorite Bon Scott Album. Can't get enough of it,the guitar tone, the lyrics,Bon at his best.Ohh how it all melts together to form a Rock 'N Roll master piece.
"i never shot nobody....dont even carry a gun" Powerage is just chock-full of awesome songs and lyrics. It's actually my favorite album and Whats Next to the Moon is my favorite song.
Oh man...one of my favourite AC/DC songs. Brian was absolutely the right replacement for Bon, but nobody sings this song like Bon Scott. How tight are Phil and Malcolm. What a rock n roll machine.
we all miss Bon but he died mahy years ago. I´m glad to hear AC/DC playing thsi great song again, overcoming Bon´s death. If they did why can´t we? Brian can sing any AC/DC song, I´m glad he does... he keeps these songs alive
wind yer neck in hi,johnson was stone deaf the day he joined the the band ffs, which explains him squealin' and squawkin' and destroyin' every classic that Bon wrote :(
An AC/DC classic, for the life of me, I can’t understand how the radio stations never play this. Down Payment Blues, along with the rest of the brilliant Powerage album was a masterpiece, and arguably AC/DC’s best work.
I saw AC DC in the 70s Bon Scott lead vocals. But before this was released.Didn’t hear this until saw Live Wire a brilliant tribute band. They sang this and it blew me away.I went to buy Powerage straight away. For me it’s class and the best song they have written.
Crashed in edmonton commonwealth stadium to see AC/DC .thunder lightning &rain ..when they played..thunder...10ooo people left..I stayed in the rain..a memorable &enjoyable night...all for free..no ticket required..couldn't afford it anyways..oh the energy.never sat all night..aussie sure know how to entertain..
Down Payment Blues, the Jack, and Gone Shootin off of the VH1 Studios recordings are probably the best I've heard from AC/DC in the Brian Johnson era. just grooving to some old Bon Scott songs in a dark studio. This stuff is pure gold i can't stop listening.
I Feel Like Brian Sung "Down Payment Blues" Like That He Knew What The Song Meant To Him & Like This Song Was His Life...Brian You Done A Great Job On This One ✊
imagine how loud this was in the VH1 studio when they did these live. it would have rattled your teeth. if you know amps and tone and AC/DC's love for volume and clipping amps..it would have blown your face off.
Nice job Brian! I'm sure it is a bit difficult following a legend like Bon. But Brian is a legend in his own right. Man, Powerage is my favorite AC/DC album. Gone Shootin is downright scary. This great band had an unprecedented run of brilliant albums. These records had no throw away songs. Starting with Let There Be Rock all the way to For Those About To Rock. Thru tragedy and hardship, this band never wavered. What a band!!!
How brilliant is that Powerage album Up To My Neck in You is just brilliance at its best the riff senfuckinsational Angus's big arse solo Bon,s singing so emotional in that song some women must have pissed him off quite simply the best rock n roll song in the world the Americans may have invited rock with the likes of Elvis and Buddy but 20 yrs later the Aussies perfected it with the likes of Bon an Angus
WE all should be very Glad & Thankful that AC/DC is still there and keeping ROCKnROLL ALIVE ! These "Bon -Brian" comparisons are just stupid and silly .
Ich finde, es ist vollkommen egal, in welcher Besetzung und mit welchem Sänger AC/DC auf Tour gehen beziehungsweise Songs performen! AC/DC werden immer AC/DC bleiben!
Just discovered this gem. How did it take me til 33? New favorite, and EVH naming it his favorite acdc track in ann interview is what brought me to it. Thanks eddie and acdc, i aint grooved like this in years!
" Livin on a shoestring . A fifty cent millionaire". Ah Bon , how we bloody miss you . And Mal, you will never ever be forgotten, the greatest riff and rhythm that ever was.
Gimme a bullet way up there watch it from 2003. So good better than this Brian did. Hair standing up I've watched it over and over. Phil and Mal drive it home hard check it . Gone shootin ,2003 live. Brian does so well
"I know I ain't doin' much, doin' nothing means a lot to me" - one of the greatest lines in the history of rock.
That one line sums up the entire spirit of rock n roll. It’s just perfect.
The greatest rock band ever
Na, the greatest lyric by “can’t even feed my cat on social security”

@@kimmaxwell8975 lmao I like Brian but cmon. Nowhere near as great as Bon singing it. Some songs should just be left to Bon.
This is one of the best AC/DC songs EVER
ABSOLUTELY
It is in my top 3 of best ACDC songs. The trouble is I can't decide on the other 2, too many to choose from! But Shoot to Thrill would probably be in it, and maybe another one from Powerage like Sin City.

Saw these guys with Bon. Great song! Nuttin but R n R!! Toe tapping, head bobbin, soul robbing pure Rock N Roll!!
I dig that Brian loves performing Bon's songs and he brings a lot of respect to them.

Brian had Big Shoes to Fill In.... He's Rocked His Heart Out....
Yes he did. And he did very well.
He didn't have any shoes to fill. He made his own shoes

"I got myself a cadillac
But I can't afford the gasoline"
God I love that line
Were are many that love that line, pure Scott brilliance.
In finland gasoline is 2.25€/litre. I can't afford. My 2.4 V-6 drinks too much.
I wonder if that inspired rapper mannie Fresh's line:
"Got a quarter tank o' gas
in my new E class"
