I'd love to but I'm broke. Lol
waiting for ILAND AFTER SHOW☺️💜
I literally clapped a little when I saw you were launching into a sponsor. Finally!!
David, thanks for this analysis, finally. She deserves a lot for our appreciation.
ファサーのパフォーマンスには 沢山の魂がこめられて 見る意味や価値がある 頑張れファサー
I'm glad that she has no frame, I'm glad that she is not fake. Because I can see myself in her. I love her. I feel like all the idols that I love are teaching me the ways to love myself and appreciate myself more.
Same💜💜
I just love her the way she is!!!!!
Nayeon Kim girl why are u everywhere spreading hate. Ive seen u on other videos even when people corrected you, u go to other videos. U obsessed lmao

She doesn't like mamamoo?

I love Hwasa and how she has embraces herself without conforming to peoples expectation. It's very different from most Kpop artistes. I am Kenyan and obviously don't understand Korean but her confidence, music and vibe is really good. Thank you for explaining her two songs. Love from 🇰🇪

I also thought the rose petal bath looked like milk and was a nod to people shaming her for her tan skin. Some people believe milk can lighten and make your skin paler (I don’t think that’s true though)
good point!!!!
Milk can’t lighten your skin. You would need to combine in it with other substances, but milk alone can’t bleach someone’s skin.
LM yes I know that but some Asians believe that. For example, my mom told my sister to drink more milk to lighten her skin
@@LM-ix7pk This came from a belief from that Cleopatra bath in milk... She was known for her beautiful skin.
www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/science-science-everywhere-you-asked/why-did-cleopatra-supposedly-bathe-sour-donkey-milk
@@LM-ix7pk no. There is a famous belief (ofcourse not true) that white food gives you fair complexion. I've been told as a kid that finish up your curd and rice(both white), it'll make you fair.
i just want people to remember hwasa is a human being, and to think before throwing hate comments.
Honestly I feel so bad for mamamoo. They're a group with a solid foundation in music, and since most people can't attack them musically, they go for personal stuff.
Not just Hwasa, but all of the celebrity.
@@heeheehaheho5649 you're right, no one deserves hate✌🏻
These songs are a musical, visual, spiritual masterpiece. Hwasa is an amazing artist, vocalist & strong woman. Her & MAMAMOO’s music really touches me emotionally. I genuinely enjoy every song they’ve produced, composed & written themselves. They have their own say in every aspect of their art which makes me connect and relate to them as individuals. I’m not a big fan of K-pop besides BTS, I find MAMAMOO is one of those artists that I can listen to, probably because I don’t consider their music K-pop. I see them as soulful, RnB artists, who express themselves. They are not a cookie cutter product manufactured by a large corporation. They come from a small company that focuses on vocal artists allowing them to create their music the way they want to. MAMAMOO fighting! Your loving, supportive, loyal fan from Canada 🇨🇦💚
Zeyno Same!!!
They're still kpop
Saaaammmeeee!!!!
I feel the same. from scotland uk. I started listening to BTS and then I found someone other great people like stray kids, ateez, and Mamamoo and blackpink
Yes, they are or started out as KPop but it’s undeniable that they are beyond any one genre. Even from their debut song, they broke from the norm and sang a jazzy doo wop. Their style is different and fresh from other KPop songs. And when you achieve the status of creating music uniquely yours, you surpass labels/boxes and become legends paving your own way. I feel the same that BTS and Mamamoo are on similar paths and simpático musically. Much love to both.
I cannot express how much I love and admire her. She's a warrior.

She's actually an incredibly good songwriter, damn. Queen of Sad Bops. Thank you for making this!! Amazing as always.
I appreciate how intricate Hwasa’s songs are. They don’t sound super Kpop peppy and have deep meanings that you need to process to fully understand. It shows how much she loves her art and her work :D
Its incredible how strong this woman is ,but at the same time people take that as an excuse to attack her as well, yes she's strong but she's a human with feelings... strong doesn't mean you're sheltered and that hate doesn't affect you...keep going Hwa sa 💪 fighting
🙌🏿🙌🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Before: Hwasa is trying to deliver something but I am just enjoying the music.
Now: After listening to this explanation... damn.. I was missing alot.. 🥺
Now I can see how deep and thoughtful these videos are..
Extreeeeeme thanx for this video 🙏
You legit had me crying at the end of the Maria explaination. I've seen other theories but this one was it 👍
i like how she word play the MARIA
The person who disliked this is actually the pencil pointing Maria😑
Yes
Hwasa is a gorgeous artist. This album is a masterpiece.
Ikr
lmm is such a gorgeous song wow
I love how vulnerable and open Hwasa is in those songs. I hope she will continue to be the strong and amazing artist that she is without the "frame" or "fake" that she certainly doesn't need. Thank you for the video :)
as a moomoo, it's tiring to spend most of the days fending of her h/aters because they get abusive to the point of shaping mmm's and hwasa's public image that have developed and improved over time. hwasa is a strong woman for baring herself in her art and it's even more sad that people are easy to assault her from mere assumptions and paint her character with it. i hope one day she'll finally get the light on her image not only within those that know and support her, but in the general public too.
The fact that Hwasa's had a heavy hand in the composition and production of these songs... TRUE ARTISTRY. I loved this video, thank you so much for explaining the little gems with context as a South Korean. The way she plays with words (the different pronunciations o Maria had me SHOOK) is frigging genius. I can't believe we're here to experience such art from Hwasa and Mamamoo ugh.
When I first found Mamamoo, it was Hwasa who captured my attention. She’s beautiful inside and out. I loved this album, and LMM moves me to tears.
Hwasa should see this. She'll feel happy that the audience is able to understand her deep songs through this channel.
Malena is an Amazing film, more people shoud check it out!
Is that on netflix?
@@z_danimals unfortunately no
Where can I watch it?
Amazing but really sad. And show us that society have been the same from decades.
She really doesn’t deserve all the hate. She puts her absolute heart and soul into everything she does and it absolutely shines through
Hwasa is a complete artist. A singer just going up on stage trying to look and act cool with songs written by someone else probably without neither singing live...there are so many out there and with many fans...why those ppl are stanning them? For their expensive looks? For their pretty faces? A singer should have a message to share with people, shoul be someone to look up to. Hwasa is incredible, her artistry, her skills are insane and I'm so proud to stan her.
MV analysis, Anime viewers, Ads for Rosetta, how much more common grounds are we going to have ?
Thank you David for this beautiful explanation. I know Hwasa is so smart to putting some culture, word playing that only Korean native could help us to understand.
Once again, i do respect you for this beautiful video.
We need more humans like Hwasa, she deserves the world
So it’s a more intricate wordplay then I had anticipated. I liked the song before this explanation but now I really love it. Thank you David ❤️
she isn't even my bias but i will always have the softest spot for this girl right here, like i just want to hide her away from this ugly world and protect her bc she doesn't deserve even half of the hate she gets. it's so draining being a mamamoo fan on kpop stan twitter bc all antis do is bring up mamamoo's past mistakes and jump on bandwagon hate, especially against hwasa just because she 'looks different.' i'm so tired. they keep REFUSING to see how beautiful, talented, and genuine this person is, and all the more refusing to see that she is a person first before she is a kpop idol. i love her so much and as much as i want to hide her away from this ugly world, i want to show her off to the world so it could hopefully see her the way i see her, too.
I'm not even in twitter but I really feel the same way. I don't have a bias in Mamamoo, but once I saw her just happily smiling sitting beside her dad and I cried happy tears. Seeing her have the happiness she deserves, her bright beautiful smile made me realise just how soft I am for her❤️
I hope and wish that more idols can feel this free to express their feeling through music! I Stan and love this queen bc of her honest and relatable music.
i love the in depth explanation here in DKDKTV it makes the MV more meaningful and easier to understand to non fans
The craziest thing about this is she wrote and directed the storyboard of Maria. She killed it!
Deffenately one of the BEST of 2020....
I was working in Seoul when Mamamoo released egotistic. Hwasa wasn’t a solo artist yet but the group were so famous. They were always on TV shows and commercials, and their songs were always on the radio. I remember being at work and hearing my female Korean colleagues talking about Mamamoo saying they were too ugly to be idols. They specifically spoke about Hwasa being fat, and too dark skinned. I’ll never forget it. I was so shocked. When I started to really get into MMM I asked a taxi driver if he liked Mamamoo and he said ‘yes, they are great singers, my wife likes them. My favourite is the fat one, she acts like a foreigner’ ???? I can only guess he was talking about Hwasa. Hwasa is definitely the most famous Mamamoo member but she definitely divides a opinions. Some think she’s bold, and beautiful. Others say she is too curvy, too dark and behaves like a western artist. Personally, I love her. I hope she never changes
I've been anticipating this video ever since Maria dropped. I knew I could trust you to explain all the stuff I didn't get ❤
Thank you!
thank you David for your thorough explanation. Without it, i love Maria and LMM already. But your explanantion just boosts the beauty and meaning of these songs. Indeed, probably i need to start learning korean! XD
This is crazy.. I KNOW that this song is deep, but this is on a whole new level
I love her so much. She was recently cruicified by twt because they misunderstood her costume in a certain tv show for cultural appropriation. They just proved maria and lmm 's point.
Every time i watch your explained i am amazed by your observation skills... exceptionally scrutinized 😊
Was surprised by her vocal performance on LMM
Hwa Sa is really having her moment and she deserves every bit of it
Thank you for this explanation. Came to watch after Hwasa's moving performance earlier today at the awards show and stage/song change in light of the recent tragic news ❤
She’s a very strong woman
Man no one is on her level 😭😭😭
i'm Italian and I didn't even notice the "Malena" reference... wow, I feel so stupid!
When I first saw that part in her Maria music video, it instantly reminded me of Malena.
Nemmeno a me 😩
Thank you for breaking these songs down David 💕 I really hope that in the future Korea will be more openminded towards people who don't fit the standards and think outside the box. I know a lot of people say it but idols aren't manufactured! Yes they've been trained and conditioned but they have their own thoughts and worries and bad moments too. They just aren't allowed to express that and I hope that changes so we can get more beautiful art like Maria and LMM. They all have a story, it just hasn't been told yet.
Indeed 👍💖💖💖
She's breaking the stigma and those haters couldn't accept that. She's a charismatic strong beautiful Queen. Thank you for the explanation for Maria. 💕
Enjoying the “explained” series. Thank you for giving those of us Non-Koreans new understanding of the meanings behind the video.
6:56 Actually, what I understood from this line was something like : we all live under the same sky, and so we are all equal /same (Which can also be understood as her telling that she's also a human and not any different from other people) Atleast that's how I understood that line. But it's really amazing how we can interpret these lines in more than one way.
Because people can't stand when individuals challenge the norms of society. And that's what Hwasa did, as the amazing person she is, she stood up to beauty standards and the backlashed she got. She is such a strong and super talented woman. I love her music and the meaning resonates with so many people!
after understand more about these tracks I can say that this one of the best debut album on kpop
i love her so much. such a strong woman even in the hard times
also, thank you David and Danny for your amazing work on this channel. i really admire how u 2 work hard on the script and a shout out to the editors too!! thank you!!!
Love from Brazil 🇧🇷
I can relate sometimes you wanna be the good person but sometimes a bad person you just dont know which one to choose
I had gotten bored with Maria because I didn't understand it, but now that I've watched this, it makes me want to listen to it again.
This explanation was super helpful.
This is the reason why I love only Hwasa (Mamamoo) and BTS in Kpop since they are the rare one who break social judgement and culture prejudice - where they learn to love themself and teach us to love ourselves too.
Music shouldn't be just an entertaining choice, music should be where your heart sings your own emotions.
I am crying. 😢💔 Heartbreaking, yet inspiring. What a beautiful soul Hwasa is. 💞
I skimmed reading somewhere that Maria is a song about some state of or on the verge of some sort of mental disorder... and by watching this video, I realize the weight or the heavy significance of Maria. Thanks for doing this video. I'm new to her and her music but her voice, lyrics, and creativity are mind-blowing.
I cried watching to this :(((( i love her so much.
this helped me appreciate this song even more! hwasa is an amazing woman 🌟
I've actually always taken the "Whee" (or Hwi part as you translated it) as a reference to MMM's Wheein. We all know they've been best friends for a very very long time and the line says "Whee... comforts me". We also know Wheein represents the Wind (beucase of her name sounding like the
onomatopoeia for wind blowing, the White *Wind* album is Wheein's album and she's also wind in their Star *Wind* Flower Sun song). I think it has a double meaning that ties in with the previous lyrics, but also her love for Wheein who she knows will always be there for her to comfort her when she's feeling down. Furthermore, what also kinda made me "confirmed" that this line is a reference to Wheein is that when the MV was finally subbed, the actual lyrics are "Whee- Comfort me".
I 100% agree with this as it was the first thing I also thought. Great minds, huh?
Thought the same. I love their friendship a lot! They're like sisters. They always appear in eachother's MV. This time wheein's name appeared.
I'm getting emotional
: )
I've been looking for this interpretation because it was my initial thought and it's the "Whee- comfort me" part that made me cry the most
Yes, this is my interpretation also, didn't see comments on the main MV about this which is a shame, this part also made me almost cry
This woman is a lyrical genius !!!!
Through these explanations I fell in love more with these songs, Hwasa is really a genius for making these masterpiece, an iconic artist! Thank you for this.
I love when artists do a play on words. I also love that you guys do your research on the music videos and the artist. Excellent work!
I just love the way David experiences every song... Danny does well too. But I love David's one... 😅😅😅
I love Hwasa sooooooooo much. She deserves so much love. So many people love her and I hope she knows that. She’s so beautiful and talented. I love her artistic nature. I’m sad when I really study her songs. I feel what she’s saying. I hear her pain. I hope people who throw negativity at her take a look at themselves. We’ve seen it time and time again what someone can do to themselves when the pain becomes too much. I don’t ever want to see Hwasa feel that she is in too much pain and not care anymore. Let her live and love and be herself. She’s beautiful.🤍
She's Brilliant, that's it!
Hwasa's personality is so deep. She's the smartest artist i know. Her dedication to her works are so insane. You can really see that she's really putting her mind and her heart to all of her masterpiece.
It's getting sad and disturbing that the idols have been writing songs that expresses how they feel toward the hate they receive. Why do they need to be hated? Why can't the haters let the idols live the life they deserve? Idols exist because they want to share their talents and skills for Music. Why can't other just respect and appreciate that?
Hwasa she is gorgeous inside and out
My god i cried twice watching this video

this was an absolutely GREAT vid!! Thank you! One of the reasons Hwasa is one of my FAVORITE artists is because, as a foreigner, I watched her overcome so much hate from her own people (Koreans) and still conquer! She is a QUEEN!! Loved this video!

I love Hwasa when I saw her in Mamamoo..and now I love her more becoz of her intelligence, grace and personality. 😘😍
I love Hwasa and Mamamoo. I can’t understand why there would be any hate directed at these incredible and talented women. Their music has helped me through my own difficult times. Thank you for the explanation. It made me love Hwasa even more.🙏❤️
Wow! Thank you for this. I missed on so much meaning. Hwasa is so brilliant and has such a beautiful heart. I wouldn't have understood the extent without this. ❤❤❤❤❤
I am African American/ Indigenous Hwasa is getting so much hate from international fans who claims she is racist and she Culture Appropriates . Every minute of the day on Twitter there are videos and hate comments about Hwasa. She did 2 racial acts 4 years ago out of ignorance and apologized. She wore a durag in 2019 she is still being dragged for it she didn't know that she couldn't wear it. Hwasa hasn't done any of those 4 things again. Most people are using these things as a reason to hate on Hwasa. It has become bullying at this point . African Americans who like Hwasa are ridiculed by other African Americans and non African Americans who think she is racist as well we get called a coon , or a racist lover it's hard being a black Moomoo . But some of us forgave Hwasa and we love Hwasa and her music.
Hello, fellow black moo here! I’m sorry about all of the hate you’ve endured and thank you for standing through it. Twitter has started to become a very toxic place, but haters will always exist no matter what you do. They don’t care if they’re “proven wrong”, they just want to make others mad. Sometimes the best thing to do is to report the account and block them if it becomes too serious.
I still don’t understand why she got so much hate for wearing a durag. I mean like it’s a durag. She did not deserve that much hate for a durag.
@@maddieb1276 I can understand them being upset but in Hwasa's situation she wasn't mocking or being disrespectful she was actually appreciating her favorite idol Rihanna and trying to show her support by wearing Rihanna's durag from her fenty line.
And people don't understand Racism.
Racism is more than just calling someone a racial slur and doing blackface. Racism was created by white supremacists to oppress black people. Racism is made up of three components systemic oppression, institutionalized power and prejudice.
Systemic oppression and institutionalized power are the most dangerous forms of racism it keeps black people oppressed without systemic oppression and institutionalized power they are only left with prejudice and any race can be prejudice.
@@juannifer32 That’s what I’m saying like it was just the fact that she just wearing one as an omage and she got shitted on for that. And that alone it was infuriating.

Thank you for your hard work ♥ Those songs, especially LMM are so important for me and I really hope she has her safe place and is not affected but things people say.
She is such a great artist, expresses in so many ways!!! Not being a Korean, I don't understand the context or reason of (unjustified) hate directed at her, but I only find strength in her and from her ♥️♥️
I love Hwasa!! Her album is awesome.
The way you speak and put out facts is superior, thank you for the great video
Hwasa wakes me up every morning. Thank you Hwasa~
I believe that in the LMM MV the arrows represent the hate she received from others, however, the arrow that hits her is the one she shot herself, representing that it was self hate that ultimately brought her down
Thank you so much for this video! As a foreigner with extremely limited knowledge of the Korean language, it's almost impossible for me to get all the various layers of meaning in Hwasa's lyrics and how they relate to the imagery in the music videos. I already had boundless admiration for Hwasa as an artist, but this gave me a glimpse into the kind of person she is beyond her public persona, and I love her even more for that... as much as one can love someone they have never met. She is truly special and I feel very lucky to count myself among her fans.
Hwasa is seriously amazing, I've always highly respected her but after HIP and María came out I just... there are no words to describe how much I admire her now, she's not only a very real wonderful person but also an amazing artist
Thank you so so much for this!! I loved Hwasa even more bc of this ♥️♥️♥️😭😭😭
I'm patiently waiting for a Hwasa and Namjoon collab because can we just take a moment to imagine all the idioms and word plays and amazingness that would come out of that. Thank you so much for explaining all these word plays and meanings that I wouldn't get just by reading the lyrics - they give such depth to these songs that I could never reach otherwise.
WOW! That is incredible!
She literally created her own album from scatch. The lyrics composed by her rlly hits the spot as it talks/disses abt ppl leaving hate comments on her looks. Queen behavior💛 #Maria1stWin
