THIS IS NOT IDOL EXPLAINED BY A KOREAN BUT IDOL EXPLAINED BY AN INTELLECTUAL KOREAN! I dont know how much new knowledge I got from this video alone omg
I think he meant to say, that it was not explained by ANY korean, but by an INTELECTUAL korean. Because any korean could explain some things about this, but David just went all in and educated us
No they didn't literally curse, just this guy explaining it is cursing saying words like "shit" because americans will understand the message more clearly.
As The Fact That I don't Even Notice that Shooky Is Crushing 2 stick man in his hands make me feel like a dumbass... I Have this MV For hundreds of time but I guess I m blind 😅😅😅
Nur Qurratun Ain 😂😂😂😂 they be like "wow i didn't even notice that" lol but kidding aside, props to the whole production crew and ofcourse to these 7 lovable human beings
It would defy the very purpose of em keepin their videos creative tbh. :).... It's kinda like abstract art where you decide what it supposed to mean(which makes it kinda kewl)
I want to add one more thing. The part "talk it, talk it, talk it" There is a Korean slang "tokkida" means "run away". In the choreography small BTS members run away in a hurry.
*MIND BLOWN ASF* Suga drawing shooky crushing two stickmen is life💀I couldn't stop laughing when I saw that, it's something that I could totally see him drawing.
I actually didn't notice it.... I was too distracted by the music to closely look at the drawings. This made me laugh just like you when I saw it in this video XD
kpop is very westernized to begin with (it takes elements of America pop culture and uses American genres so...). Idk why Kpop fans continue to say this abt BTS only.
I JUST REALIZED WHY SUGA WAS BESIDE JUNGKOOK WHEN HE WAS SAYING *TOKKI* BECAUSE JUNGKOOK WAS CONSIDERED AS A BUNNY 😱 *BTS AND BIGHIT ARE KINGS OF DOUBLE MEANINGS* *I STAN INTELLECTUALS*
As a korean language trainie,i always heard the word for rabbit and then there was a rabbit on the moon, and knowing half korean sometimes makes me feel crazy lmao
It could be a reference to "Whailen 52", you know that they're lonely whales searching for something, and perhaps Jin's whale is supposed to represent the "home" (in lack of better words) which he has found in ARMY and their music, and that ARMY has found in Bangtan?
KORE THEORY. Jin created the Kore character to accompany the whale in Whalien 52, so that he won't be the loneliest creature in the world. The song was written by RM and it seems like a very personal story. In Run BTS 85, Jin gave a Kore present to RM and said that it's very meaningful. I guess it's like saying, "You're not alone anymore. I'm here with you."
It’s crazy how many hidden and double meanings they had in this MV. It must be so exciting as a Korean to watch this and see just how the artistry and creativity flow because I’m completely mind blown by all of your explanations. I know their songs are always deeper then what’s on the surface and you guys have done an amazing job breaking it down for us non Korean fans! Thank so much!!
Very eloquently said @BTS Enthusiast! I second your thanks to David. This is a wonderfully educational video that opened my eyes on so many levels. I love that there are 2 parts to the analysis, when the first part was already so full of revelations about the lyrics. The revelation that hit me the hardest came in the second part, near the end of the video: at 9:50, David said, "...the sun also represents the fact that BTS is so global that their fandoms are everywhere around the world which makes them a cultural superpower empire where the sun never sets." This is so true, and BTS's superpower to connect and mobilize so many hearts on 6 of the 7 continents is testament to their global appeal. I'm in awe of them.
BTS Enthusiast It’s exciting for Chinese too becoz many of the theories/beliefs are similar to the Chinese. Egs the rabbit in the moon, lion/ hairy beast dance is to scare off bad luck.. etc.. Nevertheless I appreciate dkdktv for their explanation becoz they do it so well 💜
Well, I thought that the part where RM wears the snapchat filters was a reference of when on a live he was told to stop using them. You know as a "screw you I don't care " response
And whenever you see taehyung wearing his glasses as well. People have told him that he doesn't look good with them. He likes them, so who cares what others say about it
You can't forget what hapend to Jungkook the last time he died his hair a different color. All the hate he got from it. And now look at him. I don't stan Kings I stan intellectuals😭😘💜
Considering the shark scene: You shouldn't forget that BTS started out from a small company with zero budget...So maybe the "big sharks" of music industry in Korea are the ones who can't hurt them anymore...Just sayin...
thank you for the explanation and translations! when i see those word plays I automatically assume it's RM, especially the "talking" to "tokki" and the pause at the "i don't ... care" to "idol" which sounds very much like what he would do.
I instantly thought the same thing. RM LOVES word play. It's a huge part of his solo song too "Trivia: Love" and so many other songs. Namjoon is a lyrical genius as far as I'm concerned
@@Nessainthebuilding ikr. his rap part and his mixtapes always have tons of wordplays. One of the reason why i stan BTS, i realized they are intellectuals who speak out truth.
this is very interesting, bts always had double meaning in their lyrics and mv. it's really mind blowing how smart they are into making these puzzles and the word play. pls make more of this!
Wow, it's like a lecture on sociology and korean culture. I like all your "explained" series. Keep up the good work. I'm not even sure I'm an army yet, but through your videos i learn so much about why BTS become such a mind blowing phenomenon. Not only cute personas, but deep lyrics with smart and calculated package for every MV. And the quality is top notch. I like Suga though. Such an ancient soul trapped in young man's body.
I agree with you! People who simply say "BTS is overrated" haven't seen what they are capable of, and everything they have done. They jump on the hate bandwagoon just because BTS has become big (not big enough in my opinion. If a western artist had 1/2 of their talent, he/she would already been blown out of proportions), but if more people were like you; looked into their discography and their message, then they would understand. Thank you for saying such nice words about them, and I agree with your liking towards Suga
@@LinhTran-hq6sm yup. Admittedly, at first i thought they just another boyband. I don't even like k-pop per se. Too loud, too cheesy and meaningless. I'd prefer one republic, imagine dragons or muse. Their lyrics carry so much depth about personal struggles or social concerns. Then there's BTS. With their self-love campaign, and lots of meaningful lyrics and concept. I guess I'm a fan now.
@@gyratree5246 I am glad you chose to widen your horizon and wasn't fixated on the idea that KPOP is only too loud, cheesy and meaningless (I was once myself like that, but like you; I still checked them out and got a positive experience)! I actually don't like the concept of "KPOP" because we are basically putting all different genres of music into one category. If you would like to check some other great korean artists, I recommend to you DAY6 (a really good band, but so underrated...) and Mamamoo! They are a fresh breath of air too xx Have a nice day!
@@LinhTran-hq6sm i like mamamoo!!! I play Starrynight on repeat in my playlist. I guess they more considered as artist than idol tho, with more mature target audience. And they looked comfortable with themselves, being silly, goofy while delivering amazing performance.
Kore was a reference to Whalen 52, he gave RM a Kore key chain and a picture I believe to Rm on one of his birthdays. Rm who wrote the lyrics of Whalen 52 was also talking about his feelings of loneliness as leader. Jin was letting him know he will always be by his side.
I'm actually more amazed that I missed the figures in his hand. The explanation was also amazing. Crushing haters with a bright smile - that's definitely a BTS thing to do. XD
The Korean point of view, the way you guys explain the mv's, all that, makes us that are interested in all the cultural aspects only a Korean could give, even more involved. I have one ask, why Idols are look down in Korea as artists?
Mariana Bezerra Melo the word “idol” in Korea doesn’t actually mean idol in English where people look up to. In Korea “idol” means group of boys or girls singing dancing performers who are manufactured by their companies and do what the companies tell them to do. Thanks to BTS, culture seems to be changing and many of them start to show their own talent by writing their own music but not as much as BTS. Many young people look up to idols but some singers or rappers get annoyed by the huge fandom of idol groups. Single person singers’ songs have very little chance of hitting the top because of these huge idol fandoms streaming. So with jealousy and annoyance, they say things that make people looked down on idols. BTS is highly respected now but they went through a lot.
Because the korean general public think they are manufactureted dolls that doesnt have a voice in their music work, they think idols are just there to attrack fans for their visuals and could not care less about their music since most of them dont even write their own music in conclusion koreans think they are like puppets easily manipulated for their companies who are more busy sailing visuals than sailing music also korean general public said most idols music lack of something they call Hann that is a korean word hard to explain for a non korean like me so i will try HANN is like a mix of sentiments like a mix of nostalgia sad but hopfull feelings something like that idk that are caracteristic of the original korean music and made people relate to songs and the sentiments the korean singer try to make fans experience by just listening to the songs and beautiful lyrics that are in a sense more poetic that the ones used in idols music you can search more about that on the internet or try to ask that to a korean person who can tell you the meaning of that word more accurately than me , plus they think idols music is just a ripp off of western music since most of the kpop companies that create idol groups buy rejected demos of western producers demos that are being already rejected for western artist so the western producer give them to those kpop companies and the producers of the company copy the beats and sounds and just put the korean lyrics on them this last thing i said is actually a fact there is a documentary that explain how the korean companies buy tracks and demos made by western producers and have being already rejected for american and westen artists/singers that is why koreans look down upon kpop idols they dont think like them like singers or artist but most like enterteiners for teenagers and youngest generations in korea older generation rarely listen to kpop they rather listen to other less know korean singers and less popular genres and they also rather listen to american or western singers anything but idols music tbh that is the hard true that is why i get shook everytime i see BTS Naver articules being discussed liked and comment mostly by older people/ fans of the group that are like 30+ because it is rare that kpop boy group is getting so much attention and support from older korean people and that is happening with BTS these days ever since Billboard news on korean news more older people in korea found out about bts and are joining the fandom older womans are joining the fandom in korea and we have 30 40 or even 50 year old korean womans admiting they like BTS and ther music and how they regret dont finding them sooner aince they doesnt listend or cared about idols music before beacause of the prejudice and stigma that kpop music and idols have in korea it is embarrasing to admit you like kpop or idols music :(
Okay, but still groups like Girls Generation, BigBang, and Even artists like Aillee and Seo Taiji are highly respected, at least that's what I know... Well, as I said I'm interested in the cultural aspects, I'm Brazilian and we see our artists differently, but we don't have companies making artists like Korea. I didn't understand yet is the double standards, if I can call that way, EXO for exemple, the were invited to make a presentation, CL too for the Olimpic Games, but yet the general public have preconceptions about these same artists that they "export".
Girls generation are just popular so idk about them being highly respected (for the music) outside of being respected as long running artists. Beside than that, seo taiji, bigbang & ailee are not considered generic kpop (ailee or IU isn't even considered kpop) so that's that
erucchi I've seen some articles talking about the artistic talents each girl has individually to create the success of Girls Generation, but yes, since I'm not Korean I don't really know if it's not because they're a 11 y/o group. And the rest of the mentioned artists are presented as K-pop, like you said but not a generic kind, that's the point I want to know more... I hope a Korean seeing this comment can explain it.
Toki(sounds similar to talkin) means a rabbit in Korean and (wild)rabbits are regarded as an Animal that is really good at running away from enemies/dangers/ threat. Like saying "He escaped from the enemy/threat like a rabbit." I think that "talking" in the song has double meaning too. "bla bla bla" and "I am as fast as a rabbit. You never gonna catch me(you can't stop me)."
Also, Korean slang 'Tokki-da(톡끼다)" the verb, means to runaway, to sneak out away, to disappear, to escape cunningly. It may be helpful to imagine bugs bunny :-)
Actually I think the rabbit is more famous for the folktale tokijeon as a really smart character. The sea god learned that rabbit liver was good for his health so he sent the turtle to invite rabbit to his palace, and when the rsbbit learned that they wanted his liver, he tricked them by saying he left his liver back on land, and needed to get it. When he was taken ashore he ran and said suckers! to the turtle.
rabbit /bunny =jungkook if they are trying to say they can run fast like a rabbit so are they having faith to jungkook?? cos we know army jungkook really like a bunny are they repairing to jungkook as their bunny?? cos jungkook is the golden maknae of the group he can do everything haha omg!!! im over thinking haha
3:20-3:24 "A huge BT21 Shooky is crushing haters with his hands." Why did i laugh at that partttt. Also with the expression it has likeeee omy that's savage or something😂
Jin's drawing with the caption KORE could be a reference to their song whalien 52 which is about the 52 hertz whale, whos call cant be heard by other whales. Basically, the whale is unloved because no other whales of its species exist to hear its call. Kind of fits with the theme of "if nobody loves you then love yourself"
Emma Schlenert I thought the same thing! When I saw the whale, I instantly thought of Whalien 52. It’s a sad story, but it does seem to fit with the whole ‘love yourself’ concept. Even during lonely times, you should have self acceptance and love for yourself 🐋💜
That's what I thought but then again, this song is more about blocking out haters/doing whatever they want and succeeding and Whalien 52 is more of a sad song so I'm not quite sure
That was my first thought on seeing the MV, too! Like he may be a lonely whale, underwater, surrounded by the bright Nemo cast, but he has his voice, he'll cast it forth, and he may take the long route, --- but whatever he does, he is himself, he loves himself.
Yeah, I also think of Whalien 52. But at the same time, this is Jin. It probably has more than one meaning. They could all be true and intended. Jin is an expert at finding one symbol that unites multiple aspects of his experience but never stating them all explicitly (the best known is probably RJ: when the others made fun of the name, he defended it out loud in one way; but the deeper, personal meaning that he never says explicitly is that RJ is literally his stage name 진 lying down, whereas the Jin persona is standing up and not timid any more... he does this multiple-meanings stuff all the time if you pay attention).
In end,the sun kinda sets and globe shows south korea, this might mean that No matter how much they travel, they know that their home is in korea and they are always gonna come back to their home (as sun sets you go to your home, right?),Idk if I explained well but yeah
the shirt that Taehyung wears was actually worn by an american interviewer that interviewed them twice! Once for the AMA's and again for the BBMA's but when he did the BBMA's interview he wore that shirt full of hearts because BTS's album was called Love Yourself. He had all the members sign the hearts shirt and then put it up for auction, donating all the money they raise from the shirt to BTS's UNICEF charity :) just so you guys know!~
If I may add just one macro point to your in depth and “micro-linguistic/cultural” analysis: I think the very fact that they entitled the track ‘Idol’, that is one of the most impressive statements for BTS to proclaim! The entire history of how the term idol haunted them with respect to their identity and the questionable authenticity of their artistic foundation makes this statement the most fitting conclusion to the love yourself series. During their early days, the term idol, and others like rapper and hip hop, had been a big point of contention, hate and displeasure from several groups of people. They had just started out but people were already attacking their identity and foundation, but they were still young, still figuring things out, yet they were backed into a corner to provide answers to rather complex musings. But now, with the conclusion to this journey of loving yourself, they have decided to reclaim the very label that had left them dispirited, and then redefine it as a grand anthem for self-love! And I think that’s very impressive on two levels. One, of course, to all who had doubted and hurt them, BTS turned the haters’ shots at them into confetti basically. It made them more determined, stronger to the point that they’ve gained so much success that they deserve to celebrate it. And secondly, for BTS themselves, as people, it is really a heartwarming sight to see them being at peace with themselves, regardless of what label they’re technically attached to, and not letting others define for them what they can or cannot be, because they have learned that whatever sides they have, they’re all them, and they can appreciate and embrace it all, really loving themselves for who they are
wow, excellent commentary! I love that BTS is embracing themselves, most pointedly by owning the "Idol" moniker. like, "ok you going to call me an idol?! I'll show what I can do to influence people...I'll teach everyone to love themselves, no matter the label that's put on us"
The explanation for this song and your added facts makes me even Admire them more. No wonder I really like this song the very first time I heard it even if I couldn't understand it at first. Now, knowing the deep and true meaning of the song I even more liked it. So much RESPECT for the group. They made me PROUD being a fan.
On the top of the Korean house, there is the Chinese character "囍" which means double happiness. It is very popular to use in Chinese weddings as it expresses joy and good fortune. I was very happy to see it above BTS and I hope it brings them lots of happiness and luck.
honestly, ‘idol’ may not have been their best title track but still one of their creative ones by far. the reason behind that? the lyricism and the mv’s symbolism. quite a lot of people give the song shit w the mv as one of the main reasons. i do hope that as time passes, people would realize that the trashy mv was on purpose. i mean, isn’t that one of the reasons behind our admiration for the boys? their capability to input amazing messages in the most fascinating and open way as possible. thus, explains my adoration for the mv’s production.
Crystane Agustin i did not personally imply that it was trashy. however, if we were to view it outside a biased perspectives, it would appear to be less aesthetically produced than their older mvs. but as i’ve stated, that’s the irony of it bc so many ppl assume that asian music videos are limited to THAT specific style. again, why i find this one of their creative mvs thus far.
r d pls refer back to my response towards another comment who misinterpreted my statement. also, just a tip, you can’t point out someone’s opinion yet indicate that it’s “wrong,” simply bc you disagree with it. now THAT’S rude. that’s the value of an opinion after all; people are allowed to have different perspectives, and to agree or not. please clarify where i was “rude” in my prime post. otherwise, please don’t accuse me of acting as such in that.
Believe it or not BTS are the one and only reason why People want to learn and understand Korean because if you see the clips of korean trainers sounds a little boring but when BTS uses them it's sounds so catchy and rhythmic and we just want to speak what it was that's the beauty of music BTS, i feel proud of myself everyday that i liked song so many artist but I Stan and Learn the Class and what music really is from BTS. BTS can't use a single pin in their mv for no reason. I Stan The Genius BTS.
the thing about idol is its not only about dragging anti’s but to also “fans” who think they can control the members lives, its bts way of saying love me for me and if you dont bye im still living my best life.
wow awesome! and perfectly correct informations! as a Korean, once I wanted to inform people of the meanings of the traditional Korean culture in idol MV. You did it more better. And thank you for the high quality clip~ if I can, want to give you 10 likes haha 😋
BTS Kings of diplomatically dissing / addressing their haters. This is why BTS are vastly different and better than any other Kpop artist I have come across thus far. LEGENDS.
@mail perso 1. Why do you hate them? They've never done anything to you. 2. They're the most humble people you'll ever meet. 3. They're all very talented so they're definitely not pretentious. 4. There is auto tune in this song, but it's not the only song they have. 5. Are you friends with them to know if their personalities are fake or not? 6. If you're gonna hate on someone, get your facts straight, and learn how to spell.
+mail perso 1. BTS is for intelligent people. Ask yourself first if you are intelligent. And second if you know the meaning of nar·cis·sis·tic. (check spelling).
My brain cells finally connecting to each other after watching your videos, really. Didn't know that Idol was this deep.. Thank you so much for the explaination, we truly appreciate it !
I just got recently hooked to BTS cause of their insanely good, complex, and coordinated choreography and catchy songs. And when i saw Blood Sweat and Tears, i was confused at first then ive done a bit of digging and i was amazed that there IS a story/ theory going on with their MVs! That was awesome! And i got curious if there is to IDOL as well and i got here thanks to the Army lighting the path through here and this Analysis was really amazing and helpful! Thanks for this. I guess i already fell in the BTS hole and am already enlisted as one of the Army! Hahaha. Sorry for the random rants. :)
BTS is out of this world with their detailed lyrics and incredible message. I am glad you jumped in the BTS hole, because the world is so much better with them (and stressful when they have so much content to look at haha).
yes, their choreography is insane and their dancing ability to actually pull it off is incredible. like you, that's what made me first take notice. but all of that, together with super catchy songs, and deep meaningful videos, makes them sooo fascinating, and got me hooked!!
I hope that those hating on them can watch this and truly understands that BTS is not just any kpop group.. That they put their minds into making sure that fans engage intellectually with them along with sending us powerful messages such as Lovin yourself.. Am sure a lot have been saved by those mere words.. And I also kinda get upset when people just judge them just because they couldnt understand the language, i mean a whole CC button exists.. It's just that people who are lazy to even try to make an effort to see what the real hype behind their success are those who are quick to judge.. Like dude, u can criticize them but make sure u have grounds for it and not just because ur lazy ass wont even turn on the CC on the mv.. Thanks David for this video.. Learned so much from it.. Makes me admire them more because of the way they get back to haters..
Thank you I was waiting for this. Can you explain Trivia: Just Dance by J-Hope? There has been a lot of mistranslations and people are not sure what the song is really about.
what a lovely explaination.. i hate it when people just judge blindly and saying that this songs were bad like trap or just simply bad... bts always make songs that have a deeper meaning... they, haters, just knew the word bts ... unlike us who love bts
Kiseki Gem just so you know that i'm a bts fan. However, if you would only take the lyrics and not the video, a lot of the message would get lost, so the haters saying that the song would be bad isn't that far fetched, ofc there is the message in the song to love oneself, but a lot of the rest would basically dissapear.
i hate people who say i hate bts or in general K-pop wihtout ever listening to it. if they heard it before and can say that i'm completely fine with their opinion.
also the part in which those men are mobbing taehyung is reference to how people in airports believe they have some sort of entitlement as "fans" to disregard basic human respect such as their personal space.
@@iu2 bts has acknowledged that without army they wouldn't be where they are but regardless they're still humans and people/fans should respect their personal space and privacy.
@@iu2 if fans love them, treat them with respect not make them feel like some goods..u might think cos they r celebs they knew what they signed up for.but we fans r human, and they r too, and as human beings, we should know how much they want to b free, and relate to how they feel to be touched randomly, and chased after..y don't the fans learn from fans in some countries who wait calmly for them at the airport, welcome them warmly, fans can shout their names, and still they'll be more comfortable that way..the boys r more like boys next door, if they r comfortable, they will be the friendliest and best ppl on earth.
Ged Casinillo Are all the fans doing it? No. This is only a small segment of the population. And let's not start being condescending. I do know the difference. Get over yourself; they're not children.
living my dream Actually, being a celebrity means that your personal space and life will be invaded. They knew exactly what they signed up for, just thousands before them. These idols hope and dream to make it big and say they would do anything for it. Now that they're there, their attitude changes? C'mon...that's pathetic and no way to treat your fans.
🐥 Something I only thought of now, is that the genre of South African music they drew inspiration from (Gqom) is almost like a never ending beat. For me personally, when you listen to Gqom it feels like the beat is never going to stop or end as it stays constant. It might disappear in the songs but it comes back just like how it was before it faded. Combining that with them saying “You can’t stop me loving myself” can also possibly mean that you’ll never be able to stop them loving themselves because it’s a never ending sentiment. The “OHOHOHOH” and “좋다” parts sound a lot like the chanting/exclamations you hear a lot in South African music genres like Kwaito, Gqom etc. **Unrelated to this but if you want a taste of what Kwaito is like, then do yourself a favor and go listen to "Mandoza - Nkalakatha"; No matter where you are in South Africa, if you start playing this everyone and their grandma will start jamming
Thank you !! They mentioned South African influence in an interview but i wanted to know which part of the song its in and i couldn't find an explanation anywhere, thanks so much. Apparently some part of the dance is also inspired by SA?
If you go to 3:10 in the original MV then you can see the dance a bit clearer. If you still aren't sure then you can search for the Gwara dance or the idol challenge hashtag that is going around at the moment :)
whoah! I didn't realized 18 13 reference! I didn't even realized it's Shooky. I just saw a cute round squishy ball of cuteness that... somehow... crushing stickmen (haters) in his hands lol
As someone who is newly interested in Kpop & BTS, this video is really very helpful! I really agree that this isn't just an 'explained by a korean' but an 'explained by an intellectual'. Thank you! Looking forward to your future videos :)
Julia Halili hi, if you want a good introduction to BTS, i highly suggest gadaursan's video series. Each video is less than 10 minutes long and give concise info about them and their personalities. They are very well-edited and i couldn't recommend them more. Btw, welcome to BTS and Kpop!
You will excel at BTS MUSIC PHILOSOPHY 101 class. Your explanation is really on point and as international kpop fans, I really learn a lot from your explanation videos. Yes. It’s bettering from reaction!!
you know i went to the airport (LAX) to see them last time they came and i was honestly so disgusted with the whole thing. i tried to give them as much space as possible and stayed back but if i hadn't moved with the crowd that was closing in on them i would've gotten TRAMPLED. the scariest thing to me wasn't even that, it was the fact that afterwards, no one i talked to seemed to think there was anything wrong with it? so many people had this mindset of "oh, but bts would be so much sadder if no one showed up to the airport" as justification. i mean yes that would make them sad if fans knew and no one showed up, but with their level of fame AND at LAX that would never happen. on the other hand, if people showed up AND were respectful, that would make them happier. that scene with tae in idol was clearly calling out airport behavior and getting mobbed in general, also yoongi has said in burn the stage that people invading his space is not good for him. in conclusion bangtan don't owe us anything, no one forced us to be their fans, but we as people owe other people basic human respect. stream idol on paid platforms: spotify/apple music/tidal!!!
@@HeyYouSam yeah i was part of the project too, they gave us ribbons to hold but in the chaos the project fell through. It still helped and wasn't as bad as aiport arivals in korea but lots of people around me let go of the ribbon and bangtan still got mobbed and pushed
This was absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the nuances of the Korean language meanings that so many of us would miss. I’m always blown away at BTS’s amazing word play and how they weave it into a multi-layered tapestry of smack-talk to the haters but encouragement to the fans and themselves, as well as, musical artistry. Your observations always seem fully rounded with research, cultural understanding, and Sherlock level detail analysis. I appreciate the time and effort you must put into these!! 👏🏻👏🏻
You guys are doing a great Job, it’s being hard to focus on that with all the streaming parties and YT drama so somethings kinda pass by, like the Shooky part and I never thought about the sun part, these explanations segments were definitely a good idea, especially necessary once you are an ARMY or simple have a RM Suga Hobi type of guy in the music production team, there are so many words tricks and things to connect, it was a great Job David, we really appreciate and Purple U for the amazing job.
Man if only non army who watched IDOL and judge easily based on what they see and hear plainly on the MV actually SAW this amazing video for explanations and theories, they will definitely shut up and be shooked. I hope they get to see this amazing video. Can someone please link this video to IDOL MV.... I don't know how to do it myself I'm just using my phone.. Anyways your channel is the best I love that you decided to change the content of your videos because this is refreshing and more informative rather than reaction videos. Keep it up man!!! 👍👍👍💜💜💜
You Nice Guy. Keep Going. I think is the same with others, did you see the video of pentagon "naughty boy"? If you didn't then you should.... Cause is the same situation, people judge n talk shit most of the time cause they're not "popular " but they are very talented.... Every group always try to do their best n even if we're not fans we can always give them a chance.... I know bets is a great group, unfortunately their Latin fans are usually a pain in the aaaaa!! So I decided not to stand them but they're great as every other groups
I also want to add my own analysis of the shark part of the MV that I found after watching the entire MV for the first time. /english essay incoming/ The shot of them dancing in the room behind a shark (8:09 in this video), you mentioned that they are unaffected from whatever is around them (e.g. the shark), and they continue dancing. The entire shot is really interesting because there's an artist called Damien Hirst and he has an artwork called 'The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living', and basically it's a shark in a tank filled with a chemical called formaldehyde to prevent deterioration of the shark's body. Although in the real artwork its the shark that is placed in the tank, to be viewed in a gallery. This time it's BTS that's placed in the tank under water (basically they are swapped). What's interesting is that Hirst's artwork presents the shark in a public space so people will watch it, critique it, say something about it etc. In BTS's case, its the opposite. The shark's outside looking at BTS that are inside the tank. The shark in this instance could mean the representation of the audience that they are describing in this song; hating them, mindlessly critiquing, saying something before knowing them etc. Shark's are known for their predator status in the food chain, and can symbolise 'eating up' - in my opinion- one's emotions. BTS in this instance stands in the shark's position, in the tank. Here, they appear as though they are being displayed, which they are in real life. Everyone knows about them, they are becoming more popular, and in turn are more likely to be targets of criticism and hatred, etc. Even though this hatred, intimidation and judgement from people seem to tear them down, its the formaldehyde (IMO symbolising their immediate surrounding and overwhelming support from family, friends and fans) that keeps them together to stand the test of time. I hope this doesn't seem too confusing hahahhahahah, but that was my first thought when I saw that scene and I had to make a small analysis from it, cause they have to show that whole scene for a reason. Edit: I also forgot to mention the part where they say 'enjoying what haters say'. Hirst's artwork had HEAPPSS of controversy because of placing an inanimate animal in a gallery (wasn't suitable for gallery settings etc). Of course, even if the shark was alive, it'd have no idea what the visitors would say about it because noise coming from the tank would purely be white noise, and I think it reflects how BTS receives things from these types of 'visitors'.

I always love your content.. As a non-korean i really appreciate and looking fwd to your explaination to have a depth view better understanding of the song & mv... It really makes me love bts more indicating bts is indeed considering meanings and every aspect of image shown.. Love dkdk too.. 😆 this kind of clip is much more better or should i say GRRRREEEEAT than just doing reaction.. I am a new fan to channel your channel & just subscribed to your channel since the explaination series... Its such a refreshing ideas...
BTS each song/music video seems to have so much deep meaning. My mind is blown away. They are really so talented. I hope in western industry and many haters will see this kind of videos and understand the vibe of BTS: that it's not all about their appearance and dance
I bet one of the BTS members watched this. Since they love RUclips videos. LOL Thumbs up for explaining to a non Korean audience like me. It does made me love the song more. I didnt like it the first time I listened to it but it does get stuck in my head. I think it spreads positive messages - LOVE YOURSELF indeed
Wow, I learnt a lot from this, I have watched idol a million times, seen theories and stuff on twitter and still I didn’t know 75% of the stuff you guys mentioned. Thank you
All I want to say is a BIG THANK YOU 🙏 for explaining the deep meaning behind the song which everyone was completely unaware of... And I am completely shooked that BTS and the WHOLE team behind each MV take a lot of efforts and use veryy clever things as backgrounds and props instead of just using meaningless things 👏🙌👏🙌 RESPECT🙌💜

They basically cursed throughout the song in korean but made the english lyrics more friendly
Creativity at its finest moment.
No they didn't literally curse, just this guy explaining it is cursing saying words like "shit" because americans will understand the message more clearly.

Triple meanings. To a lot of English speakers it sounds like "talking", which goes back to people running their mouths about BTS.
Yes
ARMY = The Sun that never sets.
BTS = The source of our light.
Shaytana! Eureka!
Them saying rabbit in Korean also sounds like "talking" in English, which also fits to the lyrics
Alexandra Windfeather you know our Joonie loves wordplay! Think the other guys have picked this up or also use it for fun too! ie: Jin’s Dad jokes 😆😂
I used to sing "talking " along with them lol🤣🤣
I always heard it at "talk it" lol
I really thought they were singing “talking” ☺️
Yes, I agree because I've always song it as talking, talking: but glad to know they're saying tokki, tokki.
the "talking" vs "tokki" part had me wanting to hand them a grammy myself
The part about the bunny and bts using “talking” & “tokki” is amazing .. they really are so ahead of their time
As a korean language trainie,i always heard the word for rabbit and then there was a rabbit on the moon, and knowing half korean sometimes makes me feel crazy lmao
At first I thought I had a trouble with my hearing bcause at the first ver i hear they say talkin but im not wrong haha
True
Also Jin's drawing only Jin indeed can explain that. That smart boy.
It could be a reference to "Whailen 52", you know that they're lonely whales searching for something, and perhaps Jin's whale is supposed to represent the "home" (in lack of better words) which he has found in ARMY and their music, and that ARMY has found in Bangtan?
Nat Blue i was thinking of whalien 52 too!!!

THAT KORE??

Wow, I had no idea this song was so deep
All of their songs are deep.
Every song 😪
KORE THEORY. Jin created the Kore character to accompany the whale in Whalien 52, so that he won't be the loneliest creature in the world. The song was written by RM and it seems like a very personal story. In Run BTS 85, Jin gave a Kore present to RM and said that it's very meaningful. I guess it's like saying, "You're not alone anymore. I'm here with you."
Awww that's sweet their Friendship is Adorable so wholesome

Yees, I mean in this way... creativity and analysis can be better developed. Just like Danny said before. Thanks guys!
BTS Enthusiast
It’s exciting for Chinese too becoz many of the theories/beliefs are similar to the Chinese. Egs the rabbit in the moon, lion/ hairy beast dance is to scare off bad luck.. etc.. Nevertheless I appreciate dkdktv for their explanation becoz they do it so well 💜

That ddaeng reference with Shooky, I'm upset I didn't notice it😣

Recon holy shit
Also, Korean slang 'Tokki-da(톡끼다)" the verb, means to runaway, to sneak out away, to disappear, to escape cunningly. It may be helpful to imagine bugs bunny :-)
also if you notice in one of the scenes where this lyric is said there is a rabit in the giant moon! Somewhere at 6:38
Actually I think the rabbit is more famous for the folktale tokijeon as a really smart character. The sea god learned that rabbit liver was good for his health so he sent the turtle to invite rabbit to his palace, and when the rsbbit learned that they wanted his liver, he tricked them by saying he left his liver back on land, and needed to get it. When he was taken ashore he ran and said suckers! to the turtle.
rabbit /bunny =jungkook
if they are trying to say they can run fast like a rabbit so are they having faith to jungkook?? cos we know army jungkook really like a bunny are they repairing to jungkook as their bunny?? cos jungkook is the golden maknae of the group he can do everything haha omg!!! im over thinking haha

@Dami Fly 'so direct and cute at the same time'. Yeah, that sounds like Yoongi. 😂
@@georgecooper9766 yeah that's so yoongi, he's so savage 😂💜
Yes..i thought d same too..
He had all the members sign the hearts shirt and then put it up for auction, donating all the money they raise from the shirt to BTS's UNICEF charity :) just so you guys know!~
Caitosaurusrex didn't v wear it in the coke ad??
possibly! i just know the shirt from this interview haha ruclips.net/video/U5E94pLXUwk/видео.html

Omgggg i didn’t notice it
Yeah but he wore a green version before he met the interview guy
If I may add just one macro point to your in depth and “micro-linguistic/cultural” analysis:
I think the very fact that they entitled the track ‘Idol’, that is one of the most impressive statements for BTS to proclaim!
And secondly, for BTS themselves, as people, it is really a heartwarming sight to see them being at peace with themselves, regardless of what label they’re technically attached to, and not letting others define for them what they can or cannot be, because they have learned that whatever sides they have, they’re all them, and they can appreciate and embrace it all, really loving themselves for who they are
That's why I love this very smart fandom.
Preach.
Wow, I never thought of it that way. Everything you said is so true and a major core point to BTS's foundation. Thank you for pointing that out.
wow, excellent commentary!
Praying for their good health as well. Can you imagine a lot of people worrying if BTS are happy or healthy? Mature ARMIES do.

honestly, ‘idol’ may not have been their best title track but still one of their creative ones by far. the reason behind that? the lyricism and the mv’s symbolism. quite a lot of people give the song shit w the mv as one of the main reasons. i do hope that as time passes, people would realize that the trashy mv was on purpose. i mean, isn’t that one of the reasons behind our admiration for the boys? their capability to input amazing messages in the most fascinating and open way as possible. thus, explains my adoration for the mv’s production.
Zephrysis, you said it aptly. The treasure belongs to those who dig a few more inches below the surface of the "dirt." My students are loving it.
Its not trashy and even if it is 'trashy' only bts can look that good in trashy stuff
I only agree with a few of ur words. and the MV is not trashy, plz dont say that. yes its ur opinion but still thats rude (my opinion)
Hi, do you still staning bts? and learning korean? They're really the only reason I'd like to learn korean.
I'm so satisfied with this explanation. Thanks
the thing about idol is its not only about dragging anti’s but to also “fans” who think they can control the members lives, its bts way of saying love me for me and if you dont bye im still living my best life.
Yes yes yes
wow awesome! and perfectly correct informations! as a Korean, once I wanted to inform people of the meanings of the traditional Korean culture in idol MV. You did it more better. And thank you for the high quality clip~ if I can, want to give you 10 likes haha 😋
And on UN Day in school come October, I am dressing as a Korean.

Staning BTS is so amazing. You not only get to enjoy awesome music but you get a chance to learn so much.
True😊
music, culture, new friends, love.....Amazing!

@@naychi2 That's true
@mail perso Shallow piece of shit
+mail perso 1. BTS is for intelligent people. Ask yourself first if you are intelligent. And second if you know the meaning of nar·cis·sis·tic. (check spelling).
mail perso your comment shows how unintelligent and shallow-minded you are.
Is it just me or does anyone else likes the part where we get to “go through” Jimin’s mouth 😂😅😅

My brain cells finally connecting to each other after watching your videos, really. Didn't know that Idol was this deep.. Thank you so much for the explaination, we truly appreciate it !
Easily the most thorough and intellectual analysis I've seen of idol. I'm impressed
How are they so damn smart tho
RM. His IQ. Such a leader will have such deep and meaningful ideas, along with everyone else's contribution as well!
I say collective effort.. but mostly The rap line i guess.. genius level..
@@Arinaretina also Bang PD!! He's majored in aesthetics. The guy is a genius too.

BAE-HOE-ven i think so
I just got recently hooked to BTS cause of their insanely good, complex, and coordinated choreography and catchy songs.
YES AND WHICH IS EHY I BELIEVE IN
"Once you Jim-in, yah cant Jim-out"
Tbh I’m not even a bts fan but as a linguistics student these videos are so incredibly helpful
I hope all the BTS haters saw this video
Tata's Cooky i hope that too, but some of them do have valid points that isn't 'just hate'
I bet they did. Look at number who unliked the MV. 😄
Holy Shit! the amount of shade thrown in Idol is too much! goddam!
They lowkey dissing their haters in artistic way. I should learn from them really
The music genre in this specific song is a South African one called "Gqom" and I was so excited when first I heard it💜
They even danced the Gwara gwara, and wore African print suits…
Thank you I was waiting for this. Can you explain Trivia: Just Dance by J-Hope? There has been a lot of mistranslations and people are not sure what the song is really about.
Agreed!
YES PLEASE
Yeeeees please
I second this
Yasss!
honestly I got so annoyed because I kept on getting recommendations for this video and I finally clicked on it but now I’m happy that I did
wow same to me
Wow.. their analysis is worth to wait for. Prefiously they analyse Baepsae and Ddaeng. It was also mindblowing... you should check..
They have made explanations for Ddaeng and Baepsae that are also very good. You may like them too.
I’m so glad this is out now. THANK YOU DKDKTV 🤧👏
How the fvck did I learn Korean Culture and History through this? 😭💜 BTS a patriot
what a lovely explaination.. i hate it when people just judge blindly and saying that this songs were bad like trap or just simply bad... bts always make songs that have a deeper meaning... they, haters, just knew the word bts ... unlike us who love bts
Yes yes yes
also the part in which those men are mobbing taehyung is reference to how people in airports believe they have some sort of entitlement as "fans" to disregard basic human respect such as their personal space.
Daniela Espinosa
I can understand personal space, but Bangtan should also understand that fans love them and without the fans, Bangtan is nothing.
Ged Casinillo
Are all the fans doing it? No. This is only a small segment of the population. And let's not start being condescending. I do know the difference. Get over yourself; they're not children.
living my dream
Actually, being a celebrity means that your personal space and life will be invaded.
I know that a lot of members have said that they want to come here; So a girl can hope for the next comeback or the one after.
@@SkyFudgey thank you!!

Fantastic!
Ryuukaru i don't realise anything. I just focused on their face and mv😁
As someone who is newly interested in Kpop & BTS, this video is really very helpful! I really agree that this isn't just an 'explained by a korean' but an 'explained by an intellectual'. Thank you! Looking forward to your future videos :)
Yesss exactly!
@@catcher881 ah yes! My friend recommended that channel also. Thank you for your help!! :)

You will excel at BTS MUSIC PHILOSOPHY 101 class. Your explanation is really on point and as international kpop fans, I really learn a lot from your explanation videos. Yes. It’s bettering from reaction!!
waaw . i didn't know IDOL has such a deep meaning , thanks DKDKTV for being here for us
Seal Fandomhaphe seriously I’m blown away
you know i went to the airport (LAX) to see them last time they came and i was honestly so disgusted with the whole thing. i tried to give them as much space as possible and stayed back but if i hadn't moved with the crowd that was closing in on them i would've gotten TRAMPLED. the scariest thing to me wasn't even that, it was the fact that afterwards, no one i talked to seemed to think there was anything wrong with it? so many people had this mindset of "oh, but bts would be so much sadder if no one showed up to the airport" as justification. i mean yes that would make them sad if fans knew and no one showed up, but with their level of fame AND at LAX that would never happen. on the other hand, if people showed up AND were respectful, that would make them happier. that scene with tae in idol was clearly calling out airport behavior and getting mobbed in general, also yoongi has said in burn the stage that people invading his space is not good for him. in conclusion bangtan don't owe us anything, no one forced us to be their fans, but we as people owe other people basic human respect.
stream idol on paid platforms: spotify/apple music/tidal!!!
"but we as people owe other people basic human respect." This, is this.
I thought the last time they came ARMYs did the Purple Ribbon thing? Or was that another time I was thinking of?
@@HeyYouSam yeah i was part of the project too, they gave us ribbons to hold but in the chaos the project fell through. It still helped and wasn't as bad as aiport arivals in korea but lots of people around me let go of the ribbon and bangtan still got mobbed and pushed
i don’t know but Jin’s Kore explanation somehow made me laugh lol
You see with BTS' content you can never go wrong because it's all so interesting & unique. Btw nice sweat David
They are so talented and educated and intelligent like stanning them is the greatest thing i ever done
It's also the most intelligent thing all of us have ever done in recent times
Jackie Taporco facts!
God damn korean army's must be a good investigator of theories and mysterious in mv's.
agreeeddddd
/english essay incoming/
The shot of them dancing in the room behind a shark (8:09 in this video), you mentioned that they are unaffected from whatever is around them (e.g. the shark), and they continue dancing.
Man, how did they think of all this while making it
They are truly geniuses
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SINCE THE MV CAME OUT YES
i learnt a lot about korean culture and the links bts made in idol

BTS each song/music video seems to have so much deep meaning. My mind is blown away. They are really so talented. I hope in western industry and many haters will see this kind of videos and understand the vibe of BTS: that it's not all about their appearance and dance
I bet one of the BTS members watched this. Since they love RUclips videos. LOL
Thumbs up for explaining to a non Korean audience like me. It does made me love the song more. I didnt like it the first time I listened to it but it does get stuck in my head. I think it spreads positive messages - LOVE YOURSELF indeed

All I want to say is a BIG THANK YOU 🙏 for explaining the deep meaning behind the song which everyone was completely unaware of...
And I am completely shooked that BTS and the WHOLE team behind each MV take a lot of efforts and use veryy clever things as backgrounds and props instead of just using meaningless things 👏🙌👏🙌
