if you get a flat tire somewhere far away and you don't have anything to fix it, use a lighter to melt some plastic on the hole , this will get you ~ 1-2 km (my experience)
Bought my first mountainbike 4 days ago and found this channel yesterday. I really like you'r channel and you're a very good biker. Keep it up! Sincerely from Sweden! Subscribed btw👍
my favorite bike hack is crush an empty soda can and put it between ur frame and back wheel. When u ride it sounds like a motorcycle and makes you the most badass 8 year old on the block
I’m a novice rider (actually an old rider rediscovering the pleasure of a mountain bike), and I really enjoy your videos, especially this simple hacks/tips that can really make a difference even on a budget. Thanks for sharing your personal knowledge, it’s truly helpful!
Depends on how much you care about how much your bike weighs but another thing to do with older inner tubes is to cut it vertically down the middle and wrap it around your new tube it basically makes you tube twice as thick. I've done it a lot before and it definitely helps stop pinch flats!
James Butler yeah I know but sometimes I cant be bothered to go through the hassle of tubeless even though I know it's worth it in the long run I got loads of inertubes lying around so might aswell use them up first
I take the brake levers off my bike and spray them with rubber spray paint to increase grip. You can do it with any color to match your bike as well, and it holds up surprisingly well.
On a hot day ride, fill your hydration bladder or water bottle half way and lay it at a slight angle in the freezer overnight. For the bladder make sure you blow up the bladder like a balloon to make sure the water freezes in the shape of a full bladder. For water bottles make sure the cap is not partially submerged. Then fill with water and you will have ice cold water for the whole ride.
my bike hack. To store bikes vertically, zip tie (or inner tube rubber band) the rear brake, and then just lean it up against a wall on the handlebars, the handlebars balance it, and it won't move with the back wheel locked up. A lot simpler than a wall mount, and a lot cheaper. edit: also ride with me when u move to avl seth, I go to school here.
A hack, add this into your next list! Using alcohol wipes (the ones doctors use before using an injection) on your disc brake rotors can remove any sort of oil! I've tried and tested this method, works like a charm because these wipes contain only pure alcohol! Not to mention they're easily available at any pharmacy.
Aniruddh Tewari another way I found is that your rub methylated spirits on to the rotor and pads with a clean cloth the boil it all off with a blowtorch! my brakes were extremely sharp after that.
Aniruddh Tewari is there any way to clean brake pads without using heat? i can do the rotor with degreaser but i dontk ow if the brake pads are ok to use it on
John Richards you don't need heat mate. Just take an alcohol wipe, take off your tyres, rub the rotors with the wipe and you're done. If possible, sand down your pads just a little and you'll be golden.
This right here has to be one of your funniest videos yet, (burst out laughing several times) and I'm actually looking forward to that gnat climb to see if that works. Brilliant stuff, thank you!
The reason why you're not supposed to use those wipes on your tires is that they can make the rubber dry out faster. The thinking is that wipes that use an alcohol or similar substance to make them evaporate will cause the tires to dry out and crack sooner. With the amount of riding you do, you probably replace tires long before this would happen any way.
I use a paint marker and put a mark on both shifter/brake clamp and a corresponding mark on the handle bar for easy repositioning after a wreck or maintenance. Just line the marks up.
I've got a good bike hack! I took an extra handlebar end plug, wrapped it with electrical tape until it was thick enough to plug my seat post. It fits and seals perfectly but it's not too hard to take out! My sensus grips end plugs are too difficult to take off to store things in the handlebars like you showed in this video, so this works as a great alternative for me. You can put money in there, or it's also a good place to hide a piece of paper with your name and phone number, as proof of ownership in case the bike ever gets stolen
I have a Bike hack. If You ride Street and you plan to let your bike sit out (say you're going to a store for a few minutes) keep a few plastic bags underneath the seat for when it rains
After changing my 3x9 to a 1x9 I had a leftover front derailleur shifter, with a little modification I managed to repurpose it to work as my dropper post switch. Now my dropper post switch matches my rear derailleur shifter and it is way more ergonomic than the dropper post switch that came with my dropper post.
Another tip for weighing you bike( maybe not as accurate but helpful for if your travelling) weigh yourself on a normal scale then weigh yourself! Subtract the two and you have the weight of you bike!! Simple 😆😆 great video btw Seth 🔥🔥
Can you please make a video on best budget bikes for beginners? I'm pretty sure that many of us live outside USA in different life standards and can't afford 1,000$ MTB as a beginner, but would really like to start out somewhere.
Inter tubes are great frame protection, especially on the down tube and chain stay . I cut the stem section out and cut them on the long by this method,if needed it can be turned into a make shift cord or bungee style strap it also works if someone gets a shoulder, arm or leg injury with some sticks and the tube rap you can immobilized the effected area .
the nitro matt this is going to be a lifesaver I usually just tape it to the frame but the way I ride it always come Loose and fall thankyou for the tip
Also I have some bike hacks, 1. Leaving a spare masterlink taped to a cable 2. If you ride like me with your hands hanging off the bars you normally wear done the outsides of the grips but the inside looks new so rotate them to get more life out of them. 3. From a motocross I always have motocross/motorcycle chain lube laying around. it's cheaper most of the time then bicycle chain lube and works the same if not better Just my two cents lol
when using a hydration pack a good way to stop them getting disgusting when they sit because you didn't clean them properly or whatever is to put it in the freezer when you're done. bladder and hose! you'll have a cold drink for a while when you start your ride. My favourite hack!
You can use the freezer to take the smell from old shoes too. Tie them up tight in a grocery bag so you dont get dirt on your other food. The cold kills some of the bacteria that makes shoes smelly.
BIKE HACK. when riding with friends, if you go into a store on a busy street and don't have a bike lock, stack the bikes awkwardly to deter thieves. if the bike are standing alone upright, anyone could grab one and roll away, but if the bikes are in a pile they will have to spend the time to untangle some bars and pedals to take your bike. it may scratch your bike, but it can save you from losing your bike forever!
Another great tips that I have seen on RUclips about inner tubes is that you can make Zippo rubber covers. fit might be tight but it’s great way protect lighter from water and snow, also it keeps fuel much more longer than without
When putting on new grips use wd40 it has alcohol in it so it evaporates fast and makes a tight seal plus it will lube the grip to make it easier to put on the bars
i do this too, i also added a large gear clamp to secure the speaker. I have the JBL flip 4 on my bike and do jumps etc all the time, never once has it come loose
baby wipes are way cheaper then expensive interior wipes and are just as good. if it's good enough to wipe shite off a babies arse it's good enough to wipe shite off your bike. 😀
Seth, here in Colombia we use damaged tubes, cutting them along to form bands. Then they can be wrapped around the bars and prevent chain caused scratches on the paint.
I built my own bike repair stand out of old steel piping i pulled out of a scrap metal bin. cut them to size, threaded them together with a couple fittings and added a C Clamp with some angle iron welded to the fixed portion of the clamp to cradle the top tube of the bike and presto, saved at least 200 bucks. used it for over 10 years now and its still awesome.
Hack: If you need to connect two steel brake or shift cables, or need to extend your cable for some reason, you can connect them by wrapping both of them around a nut and bolt, and then tightening the bolt down real well. Its not the prettiest, but it does work. Could be especially helpful if you accidentally snap a cable and have to wait for another one to arrive after being ordered online.
Can we just give kudos to Seth for writing out the entire script to this video under in the description, good job man
He writes his scripts before and he probably copy and pasted it. But kudos for the extra effort of even writing it!
Omg. I didn't even notice that.
Do you know what size tire he uses for his diamond back?
K Mendez that is a very odd question
Im pretty sure he wrote the script to read for the video not that he just added it after
1:50 - awesome! I'm out now to start checking handle bars on the bikes parked on the streets... emergency beer money...
mrN3w7 i will never remember I put money there
Hahahah
Lol
Easy money in steal!
Not everyone will do that u dumbass
I slipped a pedal once and hurt my shin I went inside and told my mum that I did. Her response was that’s why you always wear a helmet 👌
*facepalm*

if you get a flat tire somewhere far away and you don't have anything to fix it, use a lighter to melt some plastic on the hole , this will get you ~ 1-2 km (my experience)
Or just try to melt the tube back together. Am I right?
Fuck.. what a good idea 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I have stuffed a tyre full of long grass after a punture. It kinda worked, but i would rather just walk

Andrew Gordon destroys your tire too
I did it when I was 6 with my bike and an empty plastic water bottle and it sounded like the coolest thing ever
xrkoo gd who asked you MOM
When I was a kid we used a playing card clothes pinned to the frame against the spokes.
It would destroy your spokes

I wear some spare chain links around my wrist so when I snap my chain I have extra to use on the trail, and it overall looks dope.
I'm not sure about the name goshank, how about the trail nail?

Marin would probably Sue, my most recent demo bike was a Marin nail trail
Yh I like that name
Coz it sticks in the ground like a nail in a trail
@Force Ghost lmao
I spilled my beer when you used the three way to mix the gorp.....

When I saw the intro with the tri-key in the drill, I could not guess what that was going to be used for.

Bad idea if you ask me, it can mess with the rubber
In Canada it gets icy so when I want to ride to a friends house I put zip ties around my rim and tire like tire chains.

put a crunch top water bottle in your back tire and It will make a car sound
a luggage scale is also a great alternative to weigh a bike. small enough to fit in pocket. Great take with when shopping for light bikes.
don't bother with cable crimps. just dab it in super glue.
