Thanks for getting this one in. Memories: me, a 14-yr-old white kid in Alabama in 1977. This was the first record I ever bought w/my own money. Bicycled a mile and a half down to a local five-and-dime for the 45rpm single.
YESSS @Satori My G “I’ll be good to You”!!! 🎼 🎸 🎶 🎸🔥🔥 By the way… you are knocking ‘em out da Park today with songs from my personal playlist!!! ⚾️ ⚾️ Warms my heart to see you enjoying and really feeling the music, when you add a track to your playlist🤗🤗🙂😍!
The Brothers Johnson had quite a few hits, and a lot of good songs on their albums too, like Strawberry 23, and "I'll be Good to You" "Stomp" "Ain't We Funkin' Now" "Free and Single" "Keep Me Comin' Back" "Get the Funk Out Ma Face" "The Real Thing" "Light Up the Night" (and others)
Louis "Thunder Thumbs" Johnson was the premier bass player of all times - totally the funkiest! He worked on so many classic tunes with his incredible bass lines. Check out the Brothers Johnson performing STOMP, preferably a LIVE performance to get the full experience of Thunder's greatness!
Yeah, I love this song and listen to it to this day. Artist, Shugi Otis is the writer of this song and you should check out his version (released before Bros. Johnson version). I like both versions.
George (Guitar) and Louis (Bass) Johnson were the top session players in LA and did a lot of recordings for Quincy Jones. We lost Louis Johnson five years ago. Gone too soon. These guys were amazing. I still don’t quite understand the meaning of the lyrics per se end after all these years. Great review.
Oh yeah, the Brother Johnson rocked back in the day. As a teen back in '77 hearing Louis Johnson on that bass inspired me to pick up the bass and learn it. His playing was so good. RIP Louis.
I was 12 when this song came out. The goal then was to learn all the lyrics...which I still remember. The Brothers Johnson were two of the best musicians from the Quincy camp
Great intro song choice. I come from mainly a metal background but this type of sound is unparalleled. I heard Thundercat talking about this song and i freaked out. severely underrated.
Interesting choice. Google the title to discover the Real Meaning. But no doubt these cats were seriously FUNKY, in a jazz-tinged way. Check out their debut single: "I'll Be Good To You." A straight-up killa jwan! From your reaction to this, I KNOW you'd dig even more of their sound!
I love the 70s. This is my favorite song from them. Makes me appreciate all the songs that we all grew up on more and more. Cool reaction brother ✊🏾👍🏾. RIP brother Louis J 🙏✊🏾👍🏾
Didn't you love how when it started to slow down, and trail off from one ear piece to the other,..just the keyboard,..that chime sound, real light and soft,..this was like my fav when it came out, they couldn't begin to play it enough on the radio!,..these guys jammed,..the guitar flutter on this,..and of course the badass base,..you gotta check out Stomp!,..and I'll Be Good To You,..check it,..its dope huh?,...WE KNOW,..lol these guys were part of that 70's musical innovation,..changed music,..that funk,..do keep going,..enjoy, Godspeed, Peace ✌
Still got the first four albums on vinyl: Look Out For #1 ('76) Right On Time ('77) Blam! ('78) and Light Up The Night ('80)... Bought them when I was 14, 15, 16 and 18 years young... Good times & Great music! Funky stuff and sweet ballads...Take a listen to "This Had To Be" with backing vocals/fills from Michael Jackson.
Cheerios used it for there strawberry flavor cheerios. Yes we are throwing just a taste of the heat of back then cause a few days you asked what should i do next. So we all are giving the best the the Bro. johnson. My fav.s were Ain't we funky now, Get the funk outta my face, Blam, I'll be good to you, Mista Cool, Ride-o-Rocket & they had a slow jam called: So won't you stay. The Brothers Johnson are legendary.
Ahh yeah. Louis Johnson was a great slap bassist. RIP. I played the hell out of this album. Stomp really shows off his bass chomps. Also I'll Be Good To You & Get The Funk Outta My Face.
One of my favorite songs from the year 1977 and the song was about a love letter. The song in that year hit # 1 on the soul single chart. The long version of Strawberry Letter 23 adds more of the guitar 🎸 phase to the song.Another great song by the Brothers is STOMP. May 21st 2015 we lost Louis Johnson the bassist at the age of 60 and he was the long time collaborator with Quincy Jones.. RIP LOUIS.
I first heard this song when I was little but it was covered by Tevin Campbell... I've always loved singing the lyrics, it's just a magical song! I do prefer this version, which I only found bc of one of my fave movies, Jackie Brown :)
Song was written by a 14 or 15 year old named Suggie Otis, if I remember right he played all instruments except the organ or synthesizer his dad played that.
BRRUUHH! You also have to hear "Running For Your Loving" by the Bros Johnson (although not a big hit). "Get The Funk Out My Face" was! Earth, Wind, & Fire: Shining Star, Sing A Song, Saturday Night, Got To Get You Into My Life, Serpentine Fire..... Ohio Players: Love Rollercoaster, Fire, Alone, I Want To Be Free, Skin Tight, Who'd She Coo, Far East Mississippi,..... Luther Vandross: Here and Now....
If u haven't done Luther Vandross House is not Home please My G make sure u do his performance at the NAACP awards. On RUclips and one of best live RnB vocals ever.
When entertainers played their own instruments and truly sang, no auto-tune.
I always liked the Brothers Johnson. RIP to Louis Johnson 🙏🏾
Thanks for getting this one in. Memories: me, a 14-yr-old white kid in Alabama in 1977. This was the first record I ever bought w/my own money. Bicycled a mile and a half down to a local five-and-dime for the 45rpm single.
... which smelled like strawberry lol. Scratch and sniff paper was the 45 envelope for mine
It makes me so happy to see youngers like you learn what real Singing and music is all about
The brothers Johnson don't get the accolades they deserve. Great group from 70s. An iconic song and one of my favorites. Love it.

This video made me happy seeing how much he appreciates every little moment of the song
This song is colors, kaleidoscopes, woodstock, the 60's and 70' s all rolled up in one...
YEAH...Brothers Johnson is a good way to start the day.
With Quincy Jones as producer, he played on MJ's Thriller.

Damn -- this was gonna be my next request!
Good on ya' & salute to whoever sent the request. The Shuggie Otis ORIGINAL is beast mode
Jackie Brown put me on to this song back in 1999 when I was 5 years old 😁😄... Miss my childhood
It's Louis Johnson the bassist who is playing bass on Michael Jackson's famous albums Off the Wall and Thriller.

I was 12 when this song came out. The goal then was to learn all the lyrics...which I still remember. The Brothers Johnson were two of the best musicians from the Quincy camp
My favorite "downbeat" 70's tune.
