Hi Gareth. You’ll always be part of the Filipino community since we first knew you in Cebu. Your sentimental visit coming from your grandfathers story. Enjoy the festivities. 😊👍
Greetings from Redondo Beach CA 🇺🇸. I’ve watched your videos from your other travel channel “Tourist2Townie”. Appreciate your love for Filipino food. Cheers 🥂
Kamayan! It all looked so masarap Gareth! Wish I was there. Loved the fusion between traditional and modern with the lumpia, pandesal and ube bun for the burger! 😋
It become a trend. Other culture even adapting to this food preparation method. Great bonding with family and friends or even with stranger. Enjoy the feast and kainan na.
Gareth looks funny eating with hands, haha... I can feel the hesitancy. I hope you're familiar with it since you visited Philippines already. Filipino community is big and strong in San Diego. Thanks for promoting Filipino cuisine in your vlog!
As my father explained to me, the Boodle Fight originated in the Philippine Military Academy (this was in the 1960s or earlier) where upperclassmen would usually sneak out and get extra rice from the kitchen. They would supplement this with leftover viands and canned goods that they have stashed around. This was illegal -- hence the word Boodle. In slang - is illegally obtained. They would spread this on the floor on top of a newspaper. Since it was technically lights out in the barracks (or cadet rooms in this case), they would eat this in the dark. Hence grabbing onto anything and everything that was in front of them -- hence the term Fight. To clean it up, they would fold it up and kick it under their beds.
you guys in vegas should do this boodle fight to raise more awareness of our food and culture. yehey..... ceasar palace. buchanal buffet rest. serves lechon and adobo. mabuhay.
The secret behind the yumminess of Filipino dishes lies in the country's rich culinary history. Filipino cuisine is a fusion of different influences from its history, geography, and culture. Firstly, the Philippines is a tropical country, which means it has a rich variety of fruits, vegetables, and spices. This results in dishes that are vibrant in flavors. Secondly, the Philippines has been influenced by many different cultures, like Spanish, Chinese, and American, which have all left their mark on the food. For instance, Adobo, one of the most famous Filipino dishes, is a great example of this fusion. It's a savory stew made with vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and spices, with Spanish influences. Also, Filipino food is often prepared with a lot of love and care, which I believe also adds to the taste. 😊
I laughed so hard when both guys said they love puto. Im filipino but speak spanish everyday. Lots of my patients are hispanics. You know when you say puto , it means something for latinos. haha
You should tell them to speak English too so they learn! I’m Filipino also but I speak to them in English and utilizes the interpreter! They understand English when you talk about money! English is our main language now in the Philippines other countries are learning English too! So why not learn!
@@lychellechong3689 English is not the official language of USA. So you can’t compel Hispanics to speak English. Spanish is their language. Their ability to switch language is not easy especially if they been here for a long time. The new generations speak English a little better. Hence, they become bilingual. I learn to speak Spanish because it’s my identity as well. And i learn it harder. It’s not easy. Trust me.
So nice to see that you’re actually enjoying the real San Diego so many transplants just stay in their bubbles in the areas where the locals are not and being with my Filipino friends, there is locals you get
Boodle fight is one of the filipino tradition which they started in provinces.. they all gathered in one big fiesta in their town and aligned a long table outdoors and prepared all type of homemade best filipino meals.. the roasted pork or Lechon is their best feature food delicacy to all their visitors or participants in boodle fight or food festival tradition..
When it comes to food prepartion during a celebration, Filipinos I think has a massive food celebration all over the world. You can witness a more massive 😂😂😂 if you're in the Philippines.
Sitting here at almost 2am in Chicago, watching this, getting hungry, and looking up Boodle Fight menus near me. That looked delicious. And so good to see you doing your thing. Oh, I found a restaurant that does a boodle fight for 4ppl or more. Who wants to go with me?
Seeing this video makes me want to pay a visit and eat all these delicious foods. It's more delicious if you eat them in the Philippines. Sarap, lucky you.
The word “Boodle” originated at the United States Military Academy (West Point), the military terminology for “Food”. The word was adapted by cadets from the Philippine Military Academy and is now used by all Filipino soldiers. The Aviation Cadets of the Philippine Air Force Flying School and Philippine Merchant Marines Academy use the military term for food “Chow” and they borrowed the term from the US Marine Corps. The “Boodle fight” tradition started during the cadet days of every soldier where they needed to take life (sneak) and eat together secretly with their classmates using newspapers, not banana leaves. Then later on, courtesy of social media, this military tradition was adapted by many Filipinos. This tradition was first confined to soldiers and their love ones (wife, sons, daughters and even relatives) during close family celebrations. FYI, bodle fighting is not really a Filipino tradition. The Filipino tradition is called “kamayan”, using their hands eating on their plate. Boodle fight was only exposed to many common civilian Filipino in the late 90s and early 2000 because of social media, so it was not really a Filipino tradition that was practiced way back in the 1800 like the “kamayan”. Again, “Boodle fight” is a military tradition that was only adapted by civilians in the late 90s.
Sunchokes are also called Jerusalem artichokes, a type of sunflower native to North America, its roots look like ginger but they say it tastes like potato.
Nice. Seems like a fantastic evening and hope they raised a lot of money. Also, 5:23 i spotted a JR De Guzman enjoying the fight. Sweet. Happy to see you're okay Gareth. Man, what a journey you went through. God bless you and keep you and continued good health to you. Cheers and mabuhay!🥂🍾🎊🎉👏🇵🇭🇨🇦

Where is this in San Diego? What day of each month is this Boddle Fight?
As a Filipino uhmm i think they should still put some service spoons for those soup dishes.. we usually use use out hands for fry food
