Thanks really enjoyed your video but had to chuckle at the end where you mention change of taste as we get older. At this time (63) i'm headed in the opposite direction at this time assembling a 94 Sonoma ext cab with a very nasty solid roller 10.7 to 1 pump gas 399ci. 17* 1st.gen sbc./ 4l80e/9". I plan on giving it to my nephew in about five years. It is primarily going to be a street truck as the nearest dragstrips are about 100 miles away. Hope you are still enjoying your truck.
i've got peanuts into my 5.3 swap. (i only paid $900 for the v6 firebird also), i had the 5.3 engine and 700r4 transmission already, only thing i had to buy was $99 headers and $125 o2 sensors. making my own harness, intake, and oil pan helped alot i think
I gotta 220, .585 cam in my 4.8. With a 3000 stall th350, it actually rips quite well, like a 5.3.....lol......u did well on that truck bro!!! Smart Shopping.... I wanna find a nv3500 for that motor. Then I'd have to drag home another project, the vicious cycle never ends
I would like to do the same to my 2002 s10 extreme and keep the AC but I'm leaning towards buying a professionally built and 5 year 50,00 mile warrantied 383 SBC with aluminum heads 425hp carbureted for $5500. and be into it for a total around $7000 with a ford 8.8 and full exhaust new clutch flywheel and fuel system . If I swap in a used 5.3l ls with a cam, headers ,wire harness mounts etc I'm looking at $4500-5500 but with a used engine with a 90 day warranty with probably over 150,000 miles and I have to install a new AC compressor and then recharge the system and program the ECU and get it tuned after that I'm up to probably over $6000 plus its heavier than a SBC. I do prefer the look of the gen 2 SBC in the engine bay it just looks like it belongs there and the simplicity of carbs is nice . The LS is heavier and bigger unless I get the aluminum block now I know the LS gen 3 is a much better engineered engine than the gen 2 SBC but thats not t o say the gen 2 SBC isnt a great engine, well ill just wait it out and see .
Heyyy I just bought a 1991 Chevy s-10, just got it yesterday, I am in North Eastern Ohio 😂 mine was $400, runs great, supposedly trans is slipping but I have seen yet
do the 2.8 motor mounts just unbolt from the frame or are they the welded on stand off mounts that raise the engine 1” like headflowinc dealt with on his blazer
Sub'd ! I see alot of s10's w/sbc swaps that (mildly built) can run in the high 10's. I even know a guy that had a built 383 in an f-body camaro, swapped in a 6.0 w/cam & carb. Said it was cheaper than his built 383, and went quicker. My question is - do you think I could swap in a 5.3 / cam and run high 10's? Is the engine capable of making that kind of hp - natural aspiration? Do you think the stock s10 rear can hold up, or would a 9" be necessary? Thanks for your vids!
The stock axle wont handle those power numbers for long. A stock cam go that fast but itll take a lot of compression and a radical cam to get there.. Expect a 7200 rpm Redline lol
@@beeterolds Sorry, after I asked I got to thinking I may have been a little ambitious on e.t.'s, lol. Maybe low 11's would be more in reason w/a 5.3? I even like the 4.8's. I ask 'cause I even see 5.0 Fox's running mid/low 11's w/stock bottoms and a cam swap. And gear, of course. I just figured s10's weigh about the same, so power to weight should be similar. Or, am I missing something? Btw, I love the ol'school carb'd look on your Ls's

Did you have to notch the frame for the engine to fit? I’m looking at a 93 s10 v6 I want it to drop a ls but not sure if I’m getting into some trouble.
Unless this has a 4.125 bore it doesnt have lsx heads therefor its not an lsx it may be an ls3 not sure on the other ls's but the lsx 427 is a favorite
How much gas is it chugging down? I got a 2001 Chevy S10 ls with the 4 cylinder and was thinking of swapping it for a 5.3 v8 but unsure of what kind of gas milage I'd be looking at, it's my only vehicle so of course my daily. Not tryna spend too much on gas every time I wanna drive my s10

LSX refers to the engine, LSx is referring to any variant of the LS engine. Had to look this one up myself. I guess it came about because there are so many Frankenstein LS motors it was easier to just say LSx with the x being variable across them
