I overlooked It and had a complaint that most of the enimies take forever to kill. I know it's a dumb excuse but when you need to grind a lot it can get repetitve and boring. the world design and artstyle looks cool. Though I didn't care that much for rex.
@@jonahabenhaim1223 bad take my guy i bought it back in 2019 never touched it until i heard that XBC3 releases and then i said to myslef:" i wanna finish the 2nd entry of the series before XBC3 gets released" and boi let me tell you i played 110 hours in a couple of days finished the game did everything possible in the first run and instantly started doing new game+ am now in chapter 4 again while playing XBC3 so ye dont try to sit on your excuses to miss out this wonderful JRPG
@@jonahabenhaim1223 Me too. I didn't care about Rex and his childish way. however, I'm interested in the enemy blade motives. I finished it yesterday. And the motive is just stupid. I found several flaws in this game. No one seem to mention but give high praises. I like XC1 better in term of story, battle mechanics and quests.
I got this on launch day in 2017. Absolutely loved it! Sure, it's not perfect but the world and the story and the mechanics really blew me away. There were battle tutorials 30-40 hours in and it just made the combat that much better each time you learned something new. I didn't care much for the blades and randomness of getting them but all in all its a must play in my opinion. I put over 100 hours into it. The torna dlc is supposedly even better.
Agreed. I really enjoyed XC2, even though as someone who developed terrible habits from years of playing WoW, any open world RPG ends up taking me upwards of 150 hours to either finish or get burnt out by and put down for years. XC2 nearly fell into that latter category for me, but I was able to persevere and finish it before the malaise took over. Even the things we enjoy can overwhelm us from time to time lol
Aren't most JRPG's out of context? Just look at earlier 'Xeno' games on PS2, it was rated mature and drew backlash for religious themes/symbols as was Shin Megami Tensei. Once you understand what the games were all about, you would come to realise and understand design choices. Anyone who skipped XBC2 purely because of watching out of context clips has never played a JRPG in their life.
XB2 is of the best JRPG’s on the Switch imo, enjoyable cast of characters and the story is pretty good once it actually gets going. The tutorials are well known for being terrible, but once the games combat mechanics click with you, performing blade combos and such are very satisfying.
Not saying it is as good as Xenoblade, but if you are of the few who wont scream at people who like SAO series stuff then SAO Hr and SAO Fb are pretty good. I agree, the anime is trash on certain points but the video games are pretty good
I absolutly love it. I get in blind with only Xenoblade wii in mind. What I enjoyed the most is character. Espacially the Aegis. I was a bit depressed because well you know 2020 (even if I started in Christmas 2019). I was aslo pretty lonely because I lost all my friend who studied elsewhere. So this game was... Like all I need. A story about friendship but with acual thematic. I said I love the Aegis but it's more than just that. I grew up with the character. I saw myself in their Trauma. And the ending... Xenoblade 1 was satisfied, X was satisfied and a cliffanger, 3 makes me cryed, but 2... Like I said I saw myself in the character. So off course I cryed, off course I listen even today the music (one last you is damm emotinal...) Even today I have the cutsceen in my head and it's help me to moove foward. You can say the same for 3 but it's not the same. Maybe with time I would preffer 3 but from now. For letting me see this story... Play instruting battle mechanic, make me cry, letting me see what human are really like... Thanks... I won't denie the fan service however. It's not so disturbing when I'm alone but you know the meme "where parents come". It's could be a problem for poeple who only see and don't play much after buy it. So when I try to make discover Xenoblade to my friends I had no choice. 1... (Still great but I prefer 2 so it's a bit anoying). Thanks for reading but unlike this game it won't worth you're time...
I actually like 2 over 3. I went into 2 with no expectations. Just bought it one day and started playing. Got sucked in and couldn't put it down for weeks after that. It's not perfect and honestly the extreme anime'ness of some of the characters is not my favorite thing. Like I have seen some others say, I almost wanted to stop playing when I first saw Pyra. I am just not into that kind of design. But after just putting all that aside and letting the game play out. Understanding the characters and their motivations. It's a really good story and world that was created. I still like some of the vistas as well, again even more than some of them from 3. The zones are absolutely stunning in 2. I really love all the characters and the lore. Personally as well the combat is satisfying to me. It could get a little repetitive towards the end when it became very obvious that chain attacks while bursting orbs could literally KO bosses instantly. But getting to that point, leveling up blades and characters and trying out different builds. There is a lot to it and it is fun to play. It;s one of my favorite more modern RPG's. Xenoblade 2 and DQ11 were really really good for some RPG magic.
To this day still my favourite game. Was already a fan of the franchise with 1 and X. But this was just an amazing experience from start to end, and unlike most games I have played it multiple times.
Yes it is. Absolute master piece that gets better and better. Once you learn the battle mechanics well, you'll learn it's less auto battle than you would expect. Also... fan service/10.
I rarely see Xenoblade 2 getting any hate. That´s shifted perception to be honest. The instances when hate towards the game comes into play seem significant just because the game is such a marvelous one. Xenoblade 2 is a masterclass game, fullstop. Some opinions might differ but that is the general consensus and the perception of an overwhelming majority of gamers.
Idk man, from my perspective, I enjoyed this game more than I feel I was supposed to. (I’m playing throughout the trilogy) I’m now on 3, so far 2 (including Torna) is my favorite.
The fan service was funny, I can have a good laugh at it. The gotcha system is annoying if you want to get them all, I prefer the hero system in XC3. The maps were hard to navigate, it had tunnels went horizontal and vertical and you´ll get lost trying to get to your destination, Besides that there is a really solid game. Good combat, nice story, good music, beautiful environments to explore. So much to love about XC2. Nice video.
I still prefer 2's combat over 3. The chain attacks in 3 are great, no question. But there's something so cathartic about building up a swirling mass of elemental orbs around an enemy, busting open a Chain Attack and then performing *MASSIVE* damage numbers through an Elemental Burst... ... and then when you see 14,932,619 damage performed, and you hear that voice roll out, "Awesome!!" ... I just love it. I love XC2's combat and it's quirky characters... even if some of the character designs are just head-shakingly stupid.
I actually think the post game combat of Xenoblade 2 is still the peak. Ouroboros isn't as satisfying as pulling off fusion combos. Chain attacks in Xenoblade 3 is better, but it also takes so long and basically trivializes all fights if you have a good setup.
I actually believe the chain attacks in 3 are actually the worse mechanic of all the Xenoblade games lol They took so long, with no way to speed them up, and you just waste so much time watching the same animations for 80 hours, it's actually horrible. They took like 50% of the time of battle and the only thing you do is pick a card every 20 seconds.
Been playing XC2 for some weeks now, little by little. At first it felt kinda weird, and I didn't really understand its game mechanics. 50 hours in, now I'm really into the story, gameplay, and music. Greatly recommended.
Absolutely worth it. Every Xenoblade game, even X, is worth the time of any JRPG fan. I put this series at the top in the modern era. The only other JRPGs of this era that match the quality of Xenoblade games are Persona 5, Tales of Arise, and Dragon Quest XI. Nier Automata was close but not quite up there imo.
Yes, yes. Yes yes. Yes. To elaborate, the combat is really deep and fun, the landscapes are incredible, the music is top-notch and one of those soundtracks that you can listen to on your own time and out of context, and the story overall is probably my favorite in the series. I must stress overall, though: the rough patches in this one are admittedly rougher than they are in any other Xenoblade game, but they are thankfully all loaded at the front. Once you hit a certain point that seems to depend on the person, it’s 100% incredible from there on out. Literally everyone who beats the game, even people who originally said that it was bad in the first couple of chapters, say that they love it afterwards. Also Zeke von Genbu Bringer of Chaos is in the game which automatically makes it the best one ever made so yeah worth checking out I’d say
I have no idea why they get so much hate. It's the best in the Xeno-series next to Xenogears. Okay, okay...XCX is pretty damn good, too. XC3 is my least favorite in the Xeno-series unfortunately.
Out of the 3 numbered xenoblade games, I found 2 to be potentially my favorite. It’s very flawed but I find its good qualities to be enough to adore it. Even though it has some really dumb and unfunny fan service jokes, I find they die down later on. Even though the script at the beginning can be a slow burn, but it gets really really good at the end, and it sticks the story’s ending in a way that doesn’t feel as rushed as xs3 and xc1. As much as Mythra looks very eggagerated and x Skimpy, I find her to have been through a lot over the course of the game and prequel, so I can overlook how she looks as much as her design is begging to get made fun of. Malos, Jin, and Mikhail are good characters, and I find most of the main cast like morag, nia, and especially zeke very endearing. The design choices may be very weird and dub Rex fails miserably at tone of voice, but I find this game is good for people that value substance over style. Most importantly, it’s combat is very amazing to play. Hitting big chain attacks after setting up a lot of elemental bursts will always be super satisfying. I also find the plot to be way darker than xc1 in theme, even if it’s tone, really silly humor, and its rough script didn’t reflect that for a lot of the game, with things like trauma, suicide, cannibalism, existentialism, and potentially human trafficking. I also find it having multiple titans meant more detailed worldbuilding and stand out civilizations.
The gameplay was good. The tutorials weren't. The world building was great but blocking exploration with blade abilities wasn't. The character design and the art were beautiful but the performance wasn't. The story was great but some fanservice scenes weren't liked by many people (I don't dislike them IMO) And the music was the best music in a Xenoblade game and one of the best videogame music ever.
I'm currently playing and its OKAY. The story is nice, but I'm not having as much fun as I did with Xc1. 25 hours in. I wonder how much longer until I beat it and I can finally start Xc3.
It... takes awhile. I was in the same boat as you, the story was good but not really that engaging (the world seemed cooler then what was going on), was still getting tutorials, still haven't unlocked everything, wasn't able to fully take advantage of the combat system, etc. Then I got to the point where Everything was unlocked, I got how to actually do battles effectively, and everything clicked into place. It was also around the time when the story really started to pick up as well. And I realized just how engaging every aspect of the game was and was in love with it. I suddenly wanted to interact with the ungodly amount of different advancement systems, and actually cared about them. It was sad I was some 30+ hours into the game when that happened, but I also haven't been that invested in a game and a world since some of the original SNES RPGs, and one of the few recent-ish games I still think back on with fondness. It truly is a game that you to have to invest in personally. But by the end, you get a ton back on.
@@zedgathegreat9122 Thats great to hear! Hopefully I have the same experience as you, because tbh, I'm not enjoying this game as much as I thought I would. Sounds like I have a lot to look forward to! Right now I'm on the way to Fonsa Myma the Urayan capitol.
@L Nice! I'm looking forward to it. And thx buddy. I'm not one to quit easily, so I'm gonna keep on going. If anything, I do like the battle system now that I know how to do blade combos, chains, and lvl IV specials. At first, it seemed pretty convoluted and so much info to take in, and it didn't help that the tutorials were pretty bad, but I now that I have it figured out, battles feel much smoother and fast paced. As for the story, I get some chuckles and I feel interested in it here and there, and right now I'm really loving Nia and Tora....So for Nia and Tora, I will keep playing.
@@David-ro1sb I played it for over 140 hours, I got pretty hooked, wanted to do the blade quests all the time. I had a lot of fun with its combat mechanics and with blade collecting (except for the freaking KOS-MOS xD). I would never call "good" a game that is not fun.
@@mazinrobox2546 a game can be objectively good (by metrics) and still be not fun. This game is a perfect example. It does nothing unique that I couldn’t get quicker and better elsewhere. Again, it’s not bad, just completely overrated.
Same. But i Finished 3 some time ago. but 2 is still ahead. By quite a margin. 3 is good though. The villains were shit. That's about my only ehhhhhh thing.
After playing XC1, it took a while to adjust to XC2. I agree with all of Landon's criticisms and praise. In addition, I got really into the battle system by the end and Torna vastly improved on it. It was genuinely fun to battle in Torna and very rewarding.
Tetsuya Takahashi has had Fan service before, every Xenosaga game had swimsuits and KOS-MOS's (and T-elos) outfits are headturners in those games, heck because of the rocky development you can't really argue that Gears wouldn't have gotten that treatment. the only reason this argument picked up as much steam as it did is because outsiders with very clear agendas latched on and started lobbing criticism at it. After playing 3 (which I like more than 1 and X) I can still say XBC2 is my favorite from the 'Blade series.
Xenosaga also had Booby lasers, and Shion making Kos-Mos's boobs bigger.. XB1 has Lorithia, Tyrea, Vanea, and Meyneth all of whom have fan service type designs, and even Fiora and Sharla have plenty of fan service type elements to their designs. XBX has Goetia, Ryyz, Nahum, Ga Buidhe, and Ga Bewhe for fanservice type characters. 2 has the Pyra/Mythra, Blade Nia, Brighid, Poppins Qtp, Pandoria, Dahlia, Herald, Kora, Newt, Nim, Perun, Praxis, Sheba, Theory, Vale, and Zenobia. Poppi Qt doesn't count, just because she's in a maid outfit doesn't mean it's fanservicey and is in fact actually quite modest. Does 2 have more fanservice type characters? Yes but it also has the highest amount of female cast members of all the games with 3 being the only game that ever comes close to matching the amount of female characters 2 has. Counting only significant female characters or one's that play at least some significant role. 1 only has 7 significant female characters in the game. X has 21 half of which are probably only are minor NPCs and not significant characters, I don't know how many are actually important. 3 has 31 significant female characters, including returning characters Nia, Melia, all the female consuls despite the fact that only P, M, I, and X are really the only ones with a significant role in the story, the fake queens who aren't even actual characters and are instead just mindless dolls, and the upcoming 4 female founders who we haven't seen yet. If you don't include all the female consuls in other words H,R, U and W who don't play that big a role in any of the hero quests, the fake queens, and the 4 female founders that number drops down to 20. 2 meanwhile has 30 significant female characters not including Iona who does play a major role in the main story but doesn't actually do much, Pneuma, Blade Nia, Poppi Qt, Qtp, and mk2 who are simply a super mode for Pyra/Mythra, true form for Nia, and super modes and remote control doll for Poppi respectively, and returning female characters from other games. If you do include them then that number jumps up to 40, and even discounting alternate forms that is still 35. 3 easily has the least amount of fanservice to date, and while there is still a tiny bit like Ethels boob window, Alexandria and her sleeves that have a cut out to show her armpits, as well as wearing tights in place of pants, the Agnian Off seer outfit only covers about half the chest, and Masha. All rather minor things though compared to the other series except Masha. Honestly I think the only reason most people complain about 2's fanservice is that there is both a significantly larger amount of female characters in 2 and that their outfits are way more vibrant and so stand out more compared to the dull color pallette of 1 and X characters.
@@Vandalieu A larger number of gals in a game with an in built Gacha of strange and varied characters, yea no one should be surprised at that. Thanks for the response, it was an interesting read. Also I hope we get an anime of that Pfp kid you have.
@@justsomeguywithlasereyes9920 I mean I can get people finding the designs strange especially considering just how out there many of them like Pandoria having light bulbs for shoulders, Sheba moving around in a bathtub, or Boreas actually being a giant ass mouth, that I can totally, but complaining about fanservice in 2 when the other games also had plenty of it, and the only real difference is in the number of actual femal characters in the game, is just weird to me.
For me, xenoblade 2 is a masterpiece. It has an beautiful world, great caracters like jin and morag, an amazing sound track and a great story. I like this game more than xenoblade 1. It worth a Lot!
I got this game the day I first bought my switch a.few years back and NOW....I'm on the verge of beating it. Getting into the game can be hard with the issues the game does have, but if you work through it, you will find yourself enjoying it. I beat the first game about a month and a half ago and I started where I left of on part two cause I already had a lot of hours in. It feel great to finally invest time into it and finish strong. So, that way, I feel good starting up part 3.
Xenoblade 2 was occasionally weird and cringe yes but I honestly could not care less about it because the rest of the game was just too good. Hell, even when it was leaning into fanservice moments it was only during 3 cutscenes during a 70 hour+ JRPG. It managed to hit the 4 things I value most in judging a game: story, characters, music, and gameplay. XC2 has issues beyond the fanservice like it’s hit-or-miss English dub, terrible navigation with field skills, and horrible tutorials, etc. it’s not just the off-putting moments. I just don’t understand why THIS is the ONLY JRPG that gets scrutinized for including silly moments and fanservice when there are other games in the JRPG genre that are way more guilty. I disagree with your statement of XC2 not feeling like a xeno game but that’s getting into a whole other can of worms.
It's pretty crazy, I actually used to consider this game to be my favorite on the switch a few years ago but in recent times by opinion on the game started to deteriorate. I think it's still worth playing though.
Nice to see yoy doing this video now, consideing I'm currently going through the final chapter of this game. I'm personally loved it. I will agree it's no masterpiece, but I enjoyed it quite a lot. And for the unpopular opinion so that this comment gets no likes at all: I prefer Xenoblade 2 over Xenoblade 1 (haven't played 3, so I won't talk about that one). For starters, no, I don't care about fanservice. While some things could get a bit "cringey" at times, I have been laughing with this game a fair lot and that has helped making me care about the characters, which by the way, was my biggest problem with Xenoblade 1. I was never really involved with most of the characters there (Melia was kinda the exception, but she was kinda put aside for the latter part of the game), while here I kinda like all the main characters. I do think the menu navigations and such could use a lot of improvements (which is something XB1 Definitive Edition got right) and the gacha system could get annoying. I did kinda enjoy the convoluted combat system, but the explations were not great, and for a good chunk of the game I really didn't really understand how to really do things most effectively, but once I did it became pretty fun. I also do feel that the clock feature was not really that well implemented in this game, and it was actually better in XB1. As Erick says, the music is amazing. That's a common trait with XB1, but somehow XB2 managed to surpass its predecessor in my book at least. I'm loving the soundtrack. The story was solid overall and quite enjoyable (I still need to see how it ends though). At the end of the day, my favorite Xeno games are definitely the old ones (Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy), but my current favorite Xenoblade game is Xenoblade 2, even though I still did enjoy Xenoblade 1. I expected a mediocre game from this from reading some of the many opinions critizicing the game, but thank god I gave it a try because it's been pretty much worth every hour of gameplay I've had so far. Oh, and finally, my final critic to this game: Translation. Translator took way too many liberties, renamed pretty much everything except the common blades (probably because they didn't even want to bother and not for a real technical decision) and changed a fair amount of dialogue. This is actually the worst thing about the game. I speak a bit of japanese and played the game with japanese voices and the differences where quite noticeable.
I was writing a big answer to this and accidentally erased it so sorry for lack of details now but: Names were completely changed (Pyra/Homura, Mythra/Hikari, Dromarch/Byakko, Brighid/Kagutsuchi, stupid long etc.). This also applies to places such as the titans, Elysium/Rakuen and terms (Aegis/Ten no Seihai -Heavenly Holy Grail-) and others. A lot of sexual innuendos were very toned down or completely taken away. Very common with Tora and Hana/Poppi, but happens in a fair amount of dialogues in the game. Also, there's a fair amount of religious terms that they decided to take out (this is very present in name changes too. For instance, the titans are named after the seven deadly sins). Finally they took a lot of liberties when translating stuff, though admittedly not changing the plot as a whole or anything like that, but playing the game with japanese voices and english text, it was fairly common for me to listen to stuff that was not quite the same to what I was reading. All in all, it's not so atrocious that it ruins the game or something like that. At the end of the day, the story is there which is the most important part. But they did take a ton of liberties, maybe a bit too much in things they really didn't need to (just like anime translators back then used to change character names). It's okay to take a couple liberties, and sometimes might be even necessary, but Xenoblade 2 does it a bit too much. Xenoblade 1 did it too, but it wasn't nearly as bad. Good news is that I'm currently playing Xenoblade 3, and so far it's been pretty good (they do take some liberties, but most of them are reasonable, and I don't think I've spotted changed dialogue so far). For starters, in Xenoblade 3, all the main cast have their original names.
I remember i played the second first, while the story was good most of the time i pushed myself to advance instead of really feeling like doing for enjoyment. It's just...the flaws and the gacha took their toll. Nonetheless, i bought next the first and i was surprised that i this one i do love it. Don't get me wrong, both are amazing, but the second wasn't just for me, i may pick the third when i finish the first and i can get a complete opinion and view (and conclude if Xenoblade is for me or not).
Hey thank you for this video btw, it's not that people who love XB2 can't handle the game's faults. It's just when personalities online forget nuance and decide to farm hate clicks from people who only like Xenoblade 1 is when people get massively frustrated. Especially within the same genre that Dragon Quest, Astral Chain and Persona exists in, the problems people claim to be deal breakers within this game are just as present in huge games within the genre
great video as always. that games a hard one for me. i loved the creators and all the other games, but rex just kills me, and the "gatch" system for the blades is no fun and a struggle for grinding for the best ones.
I really like how the lore has progressed and how each game is it's own thing but are also linked. The only thing I despised in Xenoblade2 is the 50k score req for Poppi Alpha in Tiger Tiger for her 30%
ABSOLUTELY! I put more hours into it than any other game. And I wasn’t even trying. I just really like the blades side stories. The only thing I didn’t like was the MC. He was the most generic mc you could think of. I honestly didn’t care who he ended up with cause I felt he was too childish to even be in a serious relationship. Other than that I loved everything. The story, the gameplay, the mini game, the salvaging, THE MUSIC. It was all wonderful.
I agree. This is my favorite Xenoblade game with the most generic protagonist. I think part of it though is that he’s supposed to be fifteen years old, so he lacks the identity that he could develop as a man. For me, it was all of the other characters and the world-building that did it for me.
I’m going to come back to this once i’m done with the game. Not too long now(Chapter 7). I have a few nitpicks that aren’t too bad depending on the type of person but I like the game for the most part so far.
This game was the reason I bought my switch, just like Xenoblade was the reason I bought my Wii and X my Wii U. Cannot say the same for 3, that game disappointed me. Xenoblade 2 ended up being my favorite modern RPG, the anime visuals attracted me instantly, the artstyle is right up my alley and the gameplay is easily the most fun of the series once you understand it. I am a believer that this games doesn't actually have any fanservice, like, at all. But this varies from person to person. And if it has, it's definitely very mild in comparison to, let's say, a compile heart game. Takahashi wanted to write a juvenile story of a boy and a girl, so of course there is going to be a lot of corny, embarrassing and horny moments, it's just part of the soul of the game. So I never understood this "sexualization bad!" mentality some have. I am one of the most biased XC2 enjoyers tho, It's in my top 10 games of all time and it's my favorite Xenoblade by far.
It’s my favorite Switch game so far and easily my favorite Xenoblade game. People need to get over their insecurities about Pyra’s boobs, lol. It’s like a woman with boobs in real life. You can choose to look or not, but don’t judge the content of her character based on her body or the way she dresses. Jokes in JRPGs rarely land for me, but they did for me in this game. The comedy for me just lightened up a very dark story. The battle mechanics are easily the best in the series for me.
i'll give to the "haters" that the start is very slow on both the story and the gameplay... especially the gameplay, the first 10/15 hours depending on how fast you go you are playing a nerfed and gutted to death version of the actual game but when it finally gets going, it never stops and every moment after that is just amazing
New players should know, first 2 chapters are good but slow. Chapter 3 is where it picks up and then drops the ball on chapter 4. Afterwards it's nothing but up. If you don't mind waiting it out through the beginning then this game will absolutely give you many hours of fun. If the tone isn't to your taste and want something a bit serious, Xenoblade 1 and 3 are right there for you as well.
Never felt slow to me, building your character moments is good for writing, it really set the tone of the game perfectly. Tell me one way you could improve chapter 1 and 2, I actually believe they are well paced, and each chapter ends with a banger moment making you want more.
@@andr0zzsenpai chapter 1 and 2 can be slow while being well paced. Most of the things that make it slow is the restrictive battle system because until half way into chapter 2 you only have 1 blade and 1-2 party members (and the tutorial does not help.) Chapter 1 had enough story moments to keep you going, but chapter 2 is a lot more slow story wise. I didn't realize this until I saw my sister play the game. She dropped the game half way through chapter 2 because she wasn't interested in the game. It wasn't until I got her to get to chapter 3 that she started caring about it.
One of the best JRPGs I’ve ever played. When I first saw Pyra, I almost couldn’t play the game. The breast size was so comically large that it distracted me from almost everything. Eventually I got used to it as the cutscenes kept playing. Now I embrace it! Anyways I loved the story, I loved the adventure with the cast of characters to set out for Elysium. I loved the world. I loved the design of the Blades. I loved the English Dub. Above all I loved the MUSIC. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Persona 5 have the best soundtracks I’ve heard in video games. The most forgettable thing about this game for me was the combat. I honestly forgot exactly how it works and couldn’t tell you 😂 While playing I thought it was fine though.
Short answer. YES! IF you're the type of person who easily falls in love with lore or characters or enjoys the interactions and banter between characters you will LOVE Xenoblade 2! GO PLAY XENOBLADE 2 !
XC2 was the reason I bought a Switch at all, since I already had a WiiU to play BotW on. And University winter break was like a week after the game came out, so I had tons of time to just binge through it. Loved that time.
Calling the story tropey and cliche sounds a lot more like misunderstanding the plot than anything else. The Xenoblade trilogy games set up Japanese tropes only to expand and subvert them, which is why it’s one of the best sci-fi series stories out there, even able to shine as top tier outside of the video game medium. A little cringe humor or technical issues can’t stop that from shining through
Finished the game around a week ago. I really liked the game even though the end seems a little bit rushed compared to the pace of the rest of the game. Nice gameplay, nice game mechanics, nice characters, nice story overall. The only things that I didn’t like where the map system and the gatcha part for blades… I don’t regret any cent spent for this game.
I just beat XC2 and torna a few weeks ago and... It was a really good game. Not as good as 1 imo and I had some gripes with it, but overall it's really good.
They need to put in multiple save slots. Anyone can restart the game and override your saves. Multiple blades are the same and gettable even on legendary cores. They all look alike. Battle mechanics are not explained very well. Quests are burdensome. XC1 is easier to do. Blades ability requirement to progress the story.
@@tr1bes everything you mention kinda bit forgiving if navigation system is patched. Like quest yes its kinda ridiculous because the navigation didnt give clear pathway where to go. I kinda like it, its more various than other 2. Sadly maybe the patch its perhaps the only way, cause its no way for it to be remastered. Ironically its the 1st xenoblade game on switch, its having its flaw like what you know about the 1st game coming yet its the sequel, then the prequel comes, the remastered, they fix the whole thing, like navigation is easy, and make it whole better on 3rd series.
It's a good game that could have been a classic had it not been for a few really annoying aspects. First of all the questing system, finding things, etc. It's one thing when the side quests don't actually stop you from progressing but they sometimes can, so if you're going to make a quest it shouldn't be difficult to find stuff. They easily could have put a simple mapping feature just to assist in finding stuff. It was terrible in that regard. The combat is actually quite good once you get the hang of it. The story is really good and the game is long, but part of that length is just padding due to the game being dumb in the aforementioned ways. If you play XCDE it doesn't have those issues despite having worse combat. I don't always agree with Erick but here I really do. I didn't use walkthroughs right away, maybe I should have, but the point is I shouldn't have to. The fan service was absurd too. It's like they wanted to make it look dumb. Am I saying it's impossible that some fantasy characters have F cups? No, but it's just unnecessary. In XCDE you can change outfits so if you're a pervert you have the choice to perve-out, but if you want to take the game seriously you can put more realistic outfits. There's an amazing game underneath all those massive gameplay issues, but it's an awesome JRPG despite the fact they went out of their way to make me not like it. Torna is better and XCDE I haven't completed yet but in many many ways it's better. I don't finish games that I don't like and I finished 2 also, and Torna. But I basically for the first time ever totally agree with everything he had to say about. Also you shouldn't have an arbitrary limit to the number of blades you can have it's annoying.
I just finished this game yesterday. I got tire of quests. i finished Xc1 and xc2. I like 1 better. xc2 is to me 8/10. There are some problems in it. 1. Save state. I like having multiple save state. If my daughter or someone decided to play this game, it's going to override my save. 2. Quest on 1 is better. Get it and reward immediately. XC2 is that player have to go back to requester to get the reward. 3. Rare and legendary core getting Generic blades. Have to ditch many blades and they all look alike. 4. Enemy bosses' motives at the end is just plain stupid. It's like they have no brain. 5. Having particular blades with abilities to progress the story. 6. Having to rely heavily on internet and RUclips to progress on quests, where to and etc. Past games doesn't have these many emphasis and reliability. This game is so complicated for general audience and or beginner level on RPG. This will alienate many future gamers. 7. Battle system is hard to get use to. I didn't get it until Chapter 8 and I have to look at RUclips strategy on it. Make it too simple and people would be bored. Make it too difficult to understand and people would ditch the game. 8/10 for XC2. 10/10 for XC1.
Tried for a few years to get into it. Finally got motivated after hearing good things about the third game. It gave me a couple of headaches but after pushing through i ended up liking it. I then played Torna and loved it for the backstory but yeah the community sidequest was a bit annoying. I liked some of the fan service from the Xenosaga games though like Kos-Mos being a blade.
Once I figured out I could shut off the voices in combat it made the game a lot more relaxing. Greatly improved my experience. Can't do anything about the blades, merc missions or the silly shop deeds nonsense.
If you can get past the artstyle and Main character, Yes. I get how bad the artstyle is and almost quit multiple times because of it, but by the time I hit the midpoint, I was hooked.
The design is amazing i don't know what you're talking about. Maybe personal preference i guess? But I think the quality of maps and cahracters are objectily very great, even if they are bad i don't think it's enough to get over a master piece of a game.
@@bianks3916 Not to me. It looks too childish. I can't take anything seriously when they look kiddy. I come to Xeno Games because of their stories so if they're trying to have a serious scene, it won't have an effect on me. None of the previous Xeno stories had this problem. I'd it wasn't for the amazing music carrying those scenes, I would have quit on Chapter 3. For clarity, I'm not saying they need to have amazing graphics or anything realistic. I was fine with previous Xeno games artsyles. it's just this one went too far in the kiddy look.
@@AntonioCunningham maybe it’s too “anime”, even part of the story and character interaction are a bit anime like. Since I’am into it it doesn’t feel strange but the most important think is to classify the quality before personal preferences. I guess everyone has their own opinions and it’s fine though.
@@AntonioCunningham Define kiddy, maybe juvenile, but that reflects the game's story and characters, the main character is a teenager, which falls in love with his blade, and she is hot, it all falls in place if you ask me. But of course if that doesn't vibe with you it's completely understandable.
XC3 is much better than XC2 imo. I think XC3 is better than the previous entries in many ways especially when it comes to sidequests. However, I think from a main story standpoint I still prefer XC1. This could change depending on what the story expansion does but for now my personal ranking for the series is XC1 > XC3 > XC2
Absolutely worth every minute in the game. One of my favorites
I overlooked It and had a complaint that most of the enimies take forever to kill. I know it's a dumb excuse but when you need to grind a lot it can get repetitve and boring. the world design and artstyle looks cool. Though I didn't care that much for rex.

@@jonahabenhaim1223 Me too. I didn't care about Rex and his childish way. however, I'm interested in the enemy blade motives. I finished it yesterday. And the motive is just stupid.
I found several flaws in this game. No one seem to mention but give high praises. I like XC1 better in term of story, battle mechanics and quests.
easily one of my top 5 game ever
I got this on launch day in 2017. Absolutely loved it! Sure, it's not perfect but the world and the story and the mechanics really blew me away. There were battle tutorials 30-40 hours in and it just made the combat that much better each time you learned something new. I didn't care much for the blades and randomness of getting them but all in all its a must play in my opinion. I put over 100 hours into it. The torna dlc is supposedly even better.
Best jrpg out there .. can’t express how good of a game it is
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the biggest “don’t judge a book by its cover” type of game. It’s amazing, the out of context clips isn’t the full picture.
This game is basically "What if swords were sexy" and I love it.
XB2 is of the best JRPG’s on the Switch imo, enjoyable cast of characters and the story is pretty good once it actually gets going. The tutorials are well known for being terrible, but once the games combat mechanics click with you, performing blade combos and such are very satisfying.
I'm sure everyone like xenoblade only for its waifu blades
Not saying it is as good as Xenoblade, but if you are of the few who wont scream at people who like SAO series stuff then SAO Hr and SAO Fb are pretty good. I agree, the anime is trash on certain points but the video games are pretty good
@@DnVFMVs “enjoyable cast of characters”
I identified a little with Nia, it was so good to see she getting better and getting rid of the fear :)
I bought my Switch just to play Xenoblade 2. 😘
Pyra alone is worth it.
The only reason
Sadly the english voices are all terrible....I wish they were good but not really and I usually LOVE dubs!
But this was just an amazing experience from start to end, and unlike most games I have played it multiple times.
if what the devs said is true, the next game would be x2
short answer: yes
long answer: YES
Yes it is. Absolute master piece that gets better and better. Once you learn the battle mechanics well, you'll learn it's less auto battle than you would expect. Also... fan service/10.
I love the Xenoblade battle systems all of them are genius.
This is one of my favorite rpgs I've played.
Best game in the series for me. There is one for everybody and all are honestly excellent. 2 is just the best one for me.
In my top 10 favorite games of all time and easily my favorite Xenoblade game. Absolutely worth playing
I finished 3 and last week and X2 still my number 1 Xenoblade game.
The fan service was funny, I can have a good laugh at it. The gotcha system is annoying if you want to get them all, I prefer the hero system in XC3. The maps were hard to navigate, it had tunnels went horizontal and vertical and you´ll get lost trying to get to your destination,
Besides that there is a really solid game. Good combat, nice story, good music, beautiful environments to explore. So much to love about XC2.
Nice video.
after a year and after playing xc3 for ninety hours I totally fall in love with xc2.
I still prefer 2's combat over 3.
The chain attacks in 3 are great, no question. But there's something so cathartic about building up a swirling mass of elemental orbs around an enemy, busting open a Chain Attack and then performing *MASSIVE* damage numbers through an Elemental Burst...
... and then when you see 14,932,619 damage performed, and you hear that voice roll out, "Awesome!!"
... I just love it. I love XC2's combat and it's quirky characters... even if some of the character designs are just head-shakingly stupid.
Right but i think Tora is worse.
I actually think the post game combat of Xenoblade 2 is still the peak. Ouroboros isn't as satisfying as pulling off fusion combos. Chain attacks in Xenoblade 3 is better, but it also takes so long and basically trivializes all fights if you have a good setup.
I actually believe the chain attacks in 3 are actually the worse mechanic of all the Xenoblade games lol
They took so long, with no way to speed them up, and you just waste so much time watching the same animations for 80 hours, it's actually horrible. They took like 50% of the time of battle and the only thing you do is pick a card every 20 seconds.
@@andr0zzsenpai I don't mind it that much, but I do think they should add the ability to skip or speed up the animation.
I played Torna after 3 and it was so good. One of the best final boss fights ever.
Took a little while at first, but once it got going, I couldn't put it down. Excellent game.
Xenoblade 2 is one of my favourite videogame ever and I agree 100% with everything you said
It's worth it for the waifus.
As much as Mythra looks very eggagerated and x
Skimpy, I find her to have been through a lot over the course of the game and prequel, so I can overlook how she looks as much as her design is begging to get made fun of.
The story was great but some fanservice scenes weren't liked by many people (I don't dislike them IMO)
And the music was the best music in a Xenoblade game and one of the best videogame music ever.
Let me help you guys out: Yes. Yes it IS REALLY worth playing it.
Every xenoblade game is a must play.
Yes it's a great game! I played it for +300h, and if you have played and want the full scope of the story.
Hum... 40? 50?
Don't worry the story get better more you progress.
I think the back half of Xenoblade 2 is where the bulk of the best stuff is. Even more than with Xenoblade 1.
Interesting how many people are taking a second opinion on this game. I guess fans were right. Game is awesome!
Way better than 3 in my opinion.
More than worth it, it has its flaws, sure, but it is extremely fun and the world is amazing.
Fun is the opposite word I’d use for this game. A good game, yes, but not exactly “fun” to play, at least in my opinion.

This is like asking if Ice Cream is delicious. OF COURSE XBC2 is worth playing. XBC2 is my favorite JRPG of all time. Easily the best Xenoblade game.
@@Vandalieu A larger number of gals in a game with an in built Gacha of strange and varied characters, yea no one should be surprised at that.

anyone else thinking the "Don't Forget Me!" version of the music while it was playing?
Loved it, heck from time to time i would just stand there listening to the soundtracks, they are pretty good.
I love this game. This and the third part are my favorites games on switch.
The gameplay is really fun if you know what your doing.
What are the biggest differences in the translation?
I was writing a big answer to this and accidentally erased it so sorry for lack of details now but:
Names were completely changed (Pyra/Homura, Mythra/Hikari, Dromarch/Byakko, Brighid/Kagutsuchi, stupid long etc.).
@@RyeAkai Thanks
Yes it is definitely worth playing, it’s just not a game for everyone. If you can see past the flaws and have patience you’ll love the game.
I FUCKING love Xenoblade 2
I remember i played the second first, while the story was good most of the time i pushed myself to advance instead of really feeling like doing for enjoyment. It's just...the flaws and the gacha took their toll. Nonetheless, i bought next the first and i was surprised that i this one i do love it. Don't get me wrong, both are amazing, but the second wasn't just for me, i may pick the third when i finish the first and i can get a complete opinion and view (and conclude if Xenoblade is for me or not).
Did you play xc3? For me xc3 felt very similar to the first game instead of the second game and that's why I loved it
Hey thank you for this video btw, it's not that people who love XB2 can't handle the game's faults. It's just when personalities online forget nuance and decide to farm hate clicks from people who only like Xenoblade 1 is when people get massively frustrated.
Especially within the same genre that Dragon Quest, Astral Chain and Persona exists in, the problems people claim to be deal breakers within this game are just as present in huge games within the genre
great video as always. that games a hard one for me. i loved the creators and all the other games, but rex just kills me, and the "gatch" system for the blades is no fun and a struggle for grinding for the best ones.
ehm yeah it's good
I really like how the lore has progressed and how each game is it's own thing but are also linked.
Can we say diamond in the rough then for such a game... having huge flaw but yet at the same time, huge positive that clearly merit mention.
I’m going to come back to this once i’m done with the game.
Not too long now(Chapter 7).
I have a few nitpicks that aren’t too bad depending on the type of person but I like the game for the most part so far.
The only one of the 3 that I've played from start to finish
Great Take on it. Im just about 80 hours in and enjoying it very much so + Just got to love that Mor Ardain soundtrack in the background!
It’s great game overall
Best OST in the series
The battle mechanics are easily the best in the series for me.
this one is my favorite because i am an anime fan and also a collector soo trying to get all the rare blades keep me ocupade a lot
i'll give to the "haters" that the start is very slow on both the story and the gameplay... especially the gameplay, the first 10/15 hours depending on how fast you go you are playing a nerfed and gutted to death version of the actual game
but when it finally gets going, it never stops and every moment after that is just amazing
Whatever a.i that created those waifu blade deserve a Nobel peace award
Heck yea it is specially since is still better than 3 story wise and villain wise
Yes and if someone didn't play it yet, please do yourself a favor an play it asap
Short answer: yes
Long answer: YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS
A little cringe humor or technical issues can’t stop that from shining through
Without a doubt it is.
The answer is yes. The game gets a lot of hate and I don't understand why.
I'm happy my wife and I bought two physical releases of this game on launch. They're near impossible to find now!!
I got busy and stopped playing it but the game is amazing. I'll come back sooner or later to finish it.
I just switched to Morag, she was awesome. Torna was amazing.
Finished the game around a week ago.
I really liked the game even though the end seems a little bit rushed compared to the pace of the rest of the game.
Nice gameplay, nice game mechanics, nice characters, nice story overall.
The only things that I didn’t like where the map system and the gatcha part for blades…
I don’t regret any cent spent for this game.
I just beat XC2 and torna a few weeks ago and... It was a really good game. Not as good as 1 imo and I had some gripes with it, but overall it's really good.
Too much fan service, but the gameplay and story is great.
If they big patch the whole navigation thing. I play it again.
Yeah
Im glad that Xenoblade 3 end up being good.
Any jrpgs fan should give this game a try, a big try, even if you dont like the beginning, once you push through this its worth it, and then some
It's a good game that could have been a classic had it not been for a few really annoying aspects.
Hi Eric,
I was expecting your opinion on the announcement of the Suikoden remasters!
The artstyle is what attracted me to this game, is actually top notch IMO
@@AntonioCunningham Define kiddy, maybe juvenile, but that reflects the game's story and characters, the main character is a teenager, which falls in love with his blade, and she is hot, it all falls in place if you ask me.
But of course if that doesn't vibe with you it's completely understandable.
Xenoblade 2 was a bit meh for me. Living up to shulks story was hard to do.
Has anyone played the 3rd how does it compare?
XC3 is much better than XC2 imo. I think XC3 is better than the previous entries in many ways especially when it comes to sidequests. However, I think from a main story standpoint I still prefer XC1. This could change depending on what the story expansion does but for now my personal ranking for the series is XC1 > XC3 > XC2
Xc2>xc3>xc1 imo.love the xc2 because of combat.so deep
