Great interview gentlemen. It's beautiful country up there. I worked for Orvis for a while and had the privilege of going up to the flagship store. Vermont is absolutely amazing.
Agreed, it was so fun to fish and spend time in that area. Tom was an incredible host and I look forward to visiting again in the future. Tim www.troutandfeather.com
It is very good conversation.
Thank you.
Great interview with Tom Rosenbauer. I tie along with him on all of his Orvias FB tying sessions. I admire his skill and techniques. I do own his books and use them as aids for tying and fishing.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Edward! Those FB sessions sound fun...how can they not be with Tom running them?? Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Every Monday @ 14:00.
Pleasant faces and pleasant voices. Enjoyed hearing and watching this. I'll be waiting for your list.
You got it, Bill, and my list is ALWAYS changing! But I will absolutely be sharing and seeing how it compares. In the meantime, I have a few more guests who have shared their lists...this has been a fun series to record! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
I enjoy the perspectives for tying flys. But as you requested I list my 5 favorite material. Hungarian partridge, elk hair (natural and bleached), turkey biots (all colors), hairs ear and rabbit fur, and finally squirrel dubbing (I harvest my own squirrels (and rabbits). I mix and blend my own in a coffee grinder using mostly natural colors but I do dye my own pelts).
I am a firm practitioner of harvesting hunted animals and fresh roadkill. I request from other hunters deer tails that are fresh where I can take out the fleshy tail from the center. I probably spend more time gathering or scrounging materials that go into tying. I never rule out craft stores for new kinds of material. I love wintertime when migratory birds gather and also collect feathers. I also raised chickens of different colors to harvest capes and saddles. I never rule out fly shops on line for everything else I want or need.
Thanks for this! What a treat.
You're welcome, please considering sharing this video with some of your friends so others can enjoy the fun! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
@@TimCammisa will do!
Great interview and an interesting list. I would have to include peacock herl and CDC on the list.
I’m fortunate to live near a high population of Sandhill Cranes and Great Blue Herons. They kindly leave me their feathers 🪶 on occasion, and I love to tie with them …… especially the Predatory Heron !!!! I love the Irony.
Pheasant and Peacock 🦚 ROCK also.
Fantastic Video ….. An Ambassador and a Teacher 🎣✨🎣
Nice Work 🎉 Gentlemen 🎃
Hi Brian, thanks so much for the kind words. This was a fun video to make...and we have one more that I'll release this winter! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Thanks for doing this great video. I always enjoy listening to practical advice from Tom R and have learned much from him over the years. Okay, I would add Awesome Possum dubbing. It's just so buggy and has worked well for me over the year. And, yes, I love the name.
Thanks so much Jim, and Tom is an incredible teacher! That dubbing is exceptional...the olive-brown is my go-to!! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Orvis Guide to Fly Fishing is where YOU can find Tom Rosenbauer every Monday (LIVESTREAMING) @ 14:00(I think) .
Great interview with Tom! Definitely a learning experience for the viewers. Thanks for sharing!
Tim, you just hadda wear your HAT backward. Ugh!😂😜
I knew there would be at least one backwards hat comment, you win the prize! ;-) Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed our talk. Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Tom’s the best!
Agreed, and I can't wait to release the second video we made! ;-) Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Great video by two down to earth guys who love to share their passion and knowledge of fly tying and fly fishing!
Thanks so much, Charlie! I hope all is well on your end. Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Great video.
Thanks so much, Russell, and I hope all is well! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
My 5 silk, peacock, hares face, brahma hen, muskrat.
Great video Tim and I'm a big fan of Tom also, apeaking on the dyed pheasant tail I've found here north central Pa on the freestone streams I fish a dark olive dyed PT with a shiny olive bead has been out fishing the natural PT with a copper or gold bead
Awesome to know, Chasse, and I will have to check out those shiny olive beads...thanks for the suggestion! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Thought for sure Tom would mention peacock.its magic
Fly tying is tough, especially for beginners, because tyers try to lash too much stuff on the hook. Think *sparse* people! Take a close look at any fly tiers videos and notice how little dubbing he actually puts on the thread before winding it on the hook, for example.
Great thoughts, and so true! Thanks for sharing. Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Tim, is that some Krystal flash blended up in that dubbing in the walts?
Great question, Zack, that's Ice dubbing blended with some other fun stuff. I share my basic Walt's Worm recipe and process in my book: www.troutandfeather.com/new-products/fly-tying-for-everyone-book
My top 5 ,#1UTC 70 d white,I can make it what ever color I need ,for thread bodies heads etc.#2 pheasant tail #3hares ear#4peacock ice dub#5grizzly hackle
Awesome list, Chasse, and I LOVE the choice of grizzly hackle!! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Might not be my favorite materials but my favorite foundational mataerials
Panfish are starting to get more attention
I even heard southern states have crappie tournaments
Btw great video
Thanks for the comments! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Very good video. Crystal flash is one of my favorite materials to use as well along with ice dubbing, grizzly hackle, pheasant tail and lively legs.
Surprised you did not include peacock hurl!
Such a great material, Mike, though it can be fragile. So now I know peacock herl is in your top 5, what are the other 4?? Tim www.troutandfeather.com
I WOULD LOVE TO MEET TOM ROSENBUAR
He's an incredible fly fisher, and just as welcoming on the water as he is on his podcast! Tom will be at the International Fly Tying Symposium this year, if you're planning on attending. Tim www.troutandfeather.com
All good but where was the CDC?
Great suggestion, Warren, so what materials made your top 5? Tim www.troutandfeather.com
peacock
Great choice! Are you thinking peacock herl or dubbing? Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Krystal flash Tom ??? Ok 👌 root beer colored
Everyone gets their own list, ha ha!! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
More of the person you are interviewing. Less about you.
