  • The Quigley Cripple, developed by the late Bob Quigley in California, was and is one of the most innovative dry flies ever created. It imitates both a crippled and an emerging mayfly, which is the stage of the insect most vulnerable to trout.
    Quigley Cripple
    Hook: Orvis Tactical Dry, size 16
    Thread: Yellow, 8/0
    Shuck and abdomen: Brown marabou or ostrich herl
    Rib: Fine gold or copper wire
    Thorax: Yellowish orange dubbing
    Wing: Fine light shade deer hair
    Hackle: Grizzly

    Great to see Tim Flagler. Fan of his tying videos for a long time. I have learned (and still am learning) a lot from them.

    Never get to watch these live but - fun/ love these. I would have voted Rosenbauer just cause the deerhair looked to blend with the hackle. Wonder who the fish would choose?

    Why do we always reverse wrap the wire and not the body materials???? I have learned that wrapping the wire the same way as the thread works so much better.
