Everyone needs more than their salary to be financial stable. The best thing to do with your money is to invest it rightly, because money left for saving always end up used with no returns.

"Another thing, of course, is life will have terrible blows, horrible blows, unfair blows. Doesn’t matter. And some people recover and others don’t. And there I think the attitude of Epictetus is the best. He thought that every mischance in life was an opportunity to behave well. Every mischance in life was an opportunity to learn something and your duty was not to be submerged in self-pity, but to utilize the terrible blow in a constructive fashion. That is a very good idea."

For boomers and senior citizens, the current market and economy are unnecessarily harder. I'm used to simply purchasing and holding assets, which doesn't seem applicable to the current volatile market, and inflation is catching up with my portfolio. My biggest concern is whether I'll survive after retirement.

Everything he has said is accurate. Had a good marital choice - and unfortunately, she died young. Lived under my means. Avoided making some bad decisions and made some. I have always focused on learning, changing while knowing other people could do some things better.
I live in the house that I purchased 44 years ago and drive a 20 year old car that performs as well as it did on the first day, brand new. The new house two doors down (replacing the tract house that had existed) was listed for $6,230,000 and is under contract.
A younger brother did it even better. He took every pay increase and bonus and invested them for years. He is going on another vacation overseas this week.
And, yes, I subscribed to the Daily Journal for years.

I have known!, working in a company for more than 40 years, quite a lot of superiors who had no integrity,no intelligence, no experience and no true dedication to the work we did? Sure they loved doing as little as possible, and their paycheck, and playing boss as long as the good times were on us! ,but I guess that's the way big companies are? They don't really care about lower ranking bosses!! I have often thought about Shakespeare ,in these situations, " I have seen servants on horseback, and kings on foot !" Still,,,,,,!! what these two say, or give away, are truly pearls of wisdom,I followed Al my life, , don't spend more than you earn, and it's not overcoming difficulties's but trying to avoid them! Now there's something to live by 👍

The best financial decision I ever made was based on an article in the WSJ in 1982 about Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway. I sold all my other holdings and purchased Berkshire. All I had to do was simply leave it along which I did. One of my best friends lived in Omaha therefore I had two reason to attend the stockholders meeting which I did for 25 years. A simple decision to place all my stock wealth in BRKB stock relieved me of acquiring wealth particularly since my wife had multiple sclerosis. Some segments of life are simple when you have confidence in your ability to make logic and rational decisions.

I met both Mr. Buffett and Mr. Munger several times at the annual stock holders meeting. I was lucky enough to research a bit and found BRKB 26 years ago and put all my investment with them, now at 82 the only concern is meeting my maker. Right choices equal good consequences, a simple equation with an astounding result.

So there is 2 problems I have here. I currently read a lot and invest heavily and trade stocks. I see progress in my work, but it’s like Charlie just said, it only works if you live long enough.
He essentially is saying you need to sorta get lucky with the genetical lottery and be blessed with a long life. That’s my first issue.
Secondly, this man was 100? And he read all the time. Are you telling me if I quit working and read as much as possible right now, I’ll still never consume as much info as this man, so what’s the point?
Life isn’t long enough to do all the stuff you want. So why try? Why am I working for money that I can’t take with me? Should I just quit now and travel the world? Try to enjoy some of my life? But that’s not possible without money. So now back to the money and time issue.
This will be the death of me.

Yea, he could have died with 4 billion in the bank instead of 2 billion, one of his greatest regrets. Whoever dies with the most.... loses.
