  • Heroes Return To Normandy: Video Highlight
June 1, 2018 the Best Defense Foundation took 8 WWII Veterans back to Normandy where they fought.
Dick Klein - 101st Airborne Division
Francis Turner - 17th Armored Engineer Battalion of the 2nd Armored Division
George Ciampa - 607th Quartermaster Graves Registration Company
Jack Myers - 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion
Jack Foy - 347th Infantry Regiment, 87th Division
Boris Stern - 424th Infantry Regiment, 106th Division
George Smilanich - 67th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Division
Clinton Riddle - 325 Glider Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division
While in Normandy, we visited the Brittany American Cemetery. It was a solemn time for all of us as we looked out at the sea of white crosses that represented so many heroes who lost their lives way too young. While we all stood in silence, Jack Foy began to speak. His words left us all speechless and so proud to be American. Watch the video to hear it!
Please enjoy watching their marvelous return back to France.

My great grandfather was a (german) Sniper in Normandy, he used to tell me a story, where he was sitting in a tree at night overlooking a trench of americans and then heard a trumpet. He didn't shoot anybody that night, thought of his family at home, (his wife, sister and my grandfather (his son)). In the morning he surrendered to the americans. He also told me he wanted to find that american soldier who played that trumpet, and so he did, before he was sent on that boat to the UK where he was sent to a POW camp, he found him. He returned 2 years after the war back to the family, but didn't hear of the american soldier anymore. He sadly passed away last year on the 7th of June.

Just imagine, they went onto the perillous battlefield and fought for not only their lives but their country, the lives of their brothers in arms and the future generations. It saddens me that there are not many world war veterans left for they were the best generation of people. Full of bravery and selflessness. Many of their brothers, lost in the war, so long ago, and having gone back to the cemetery where they lie, is so heartwarming. There is nothing that we can do to fully repay those mighty, strong, fearless men.🙏🙌😪😓😥

My Grandfather served as a german solider in France. He never spoke about what he saw or felt. He also never spoke about what he was ordered to do in the war. His only answer when you asked him about something of the war was: Something that hopefully will never happen again.
He was so thankful about being freed by the american soldiers because that meant his war is over.
This summer we will hopefully visit the D-day experience museum.
I am so happy that we can live in freedom. Thanks to the brave soldiers of allied forces in WW 2.

That where the words which shackled me hard and I started to cry even harder... Iam German but I feel with the warriors as they where all equally men. Men which I seek to find in this world but as you know while reading this, there is only a handful of men like this left at the moment.
The night of 05.06 to 06.06 is always special for me. Like today I cant sleep but only thinking about the brave men jumping out of airplanes into a completely occupied country and of the men storming those beaches and mostly finding their horrible deaths in so young ages. No word in the world can describe the bravery of these men.

In my eyes, when he says "the warriors of the greatest generation, the generation is taking there final curtain call." it hits deep. But to me that curtain will never fall, for the show will always continue to those who were given a future because of them. The memories and stories from them will never end, as they have been carved into not only history, but the stone and hearts of every human being. The curtain may drop, and the members may leave, but the show will always remain. GOD bless the warriors and heroes of old and new, may you rest in peace.

I comment so frequently on this channel, and I hope I don't become redundant but my veteran father passed almost a year ago,and I myself am a veteran of Afghanistan. It's calming to see these great men who gave their time to educate me and others. Thank God men like these lived. You'll never die,You'll live with us for as long as we are your witness. Without a witness, it just disappears.

My grandfather was a military policeman in the Korean War, my first uncle was a Drill Sergeant in the Marines during Desert Storm, my second uncle was in Iraq in the Army, and my cousin fought in Afghanistan as a Marine. Many times I've thought of joining the Marines or the Army. I'm just a bit too chicken. I'm very proud of my family members and their service to the country, though! 😄👍❤️

@@antidegeneracy7769 Polish borders was moved many times in our history. Poland dissaperded from the maps and was reborn again many times. I dont know which lands you talkink about. If You talking about Śląsk (Silesia) if you lear the history then you should know that in the end of X century it was a Polish lands in 960 yr the part of capital Polish Kingdom. The land which german stolen from Poland in something about 1300yr. So first inviders, first land thiefs Was Germans. History shows that Germans people wants always fights they love wars. But in the end they always lose and must pay compensations for all bad things and they always want to minimize the guilt. Soviet's after II WW take from us lands in the east of Poland and never give it back. One things what we get from russia is 30 yr of slavery. In the Katyń was murdered more than 7000 Polish Officers. We must remeber that Germans and Soviets was the biggest agresors in Europe. Not Americans not Poland, Greace, Italy or French, but German and Soviet Russia. That's why Gdańsk is now in Poland because it's a kind of punishment for German pride. If the americans were not good guys so what was talkin about A. Merkel on 75th anniversary D Day? She thank americans troops for the liberation of Germany from the occupation of the Nazist? WTF is she flying away? Which lenguage they say Nazi?
