His name was Dekar, and as others have mentioned, he turns into the silver guy named Hydraxon (though technically only a copy of the original Hydraxon). It may be a cool transformation, but in my view it simply adds to the tragedy of Dekar. The Mask of Life curses whoever touches it in order to act as its guardian. The mask completely wiped his memory and personality. I remember reading the passage where his consciousness fades and his sense of self dissolves away. He basically died turning into the second Hydraxon.

I think one of the best things about bionicle was it never felt like it was pandering to anyone. For example It was all to sell a toy line but look at the story and how dark, edgy, and graphic it can get. and man does it get dark. in fact, there's plenty of pretty scary moments and plenty of nightmare fuel that still scares me to this day.

Toa Hero the isnt exclusive but it certainly is extensive isn't it? looking back there are so many things places and characters in the bionicle mythos that could induce fear and insanity.
This version of "Creeps of the Deep" is better than every other version. It's a shame that this version was just a beta.

I really miss bionicle. I still have the sets, but the feeling: "OHMYGODTHERE'SNEWBIONICLES?!?!??!" Is gone now. This is a great song and the Barraki were my favourite villains.
Right they replaced it with hero factory 😭 my brother and i have so many memories with bionicle heros. Barraki is still my fav.

Ever heard of Bricklink? It's a great place to get old sets if you never got the chance to get them when they were still being made and sold. And the Barraki still go for a pretty fair price there!

One of my most cherished memories was in 5th grade when christmas came along and most of my classmates were so close with eachother that we would pass out gifts. I remember getting the shark character from a girl and i was so excited as a girl gifting a guy something they actually wanted was pretty rare. This line was just so sick

I was just 5 when this was around, We didn't have TV. And, I never got to experience bionicle, But I managed to order Pridak and Takadox lately. I absolutely love the designs, Compared to hero factory, As they look so.. Sinister. I also like the glowing feature in Takadox, It gave me a jump when I woke up in the middle of the night.

This is what G2 was missing. G1 actually respected its audience and went far beyond whatever was considered childhood limits for a toy line, something only Transformers really did until that point.

It's obvious what became of his limbs.
I kinda appreciate how the bionicle storytelling got more complex as time went on, and more dark.
At the start, it was a pretty tame “good vs evil” story with the toa fighting basically animals and robots, and I think it’s dark storytelling g really peaked during the Piraka/Barraki eras, with the Piraka being literal gangbangers and murderers, and the Barraki all twisted criminals. I remembers back when I was a kid, appreciating the fact that the Piraka weren’t really completely evil, and, if I remember correctly, even teamed up with the toa to fight Vezon (pretty sure that was his name). Added a lot of grey area to the bionicle lore, where a lot of the old stories were “bad guy killing matoran and trying to take ____-Nui” with no real nuance to it.
As Greg Farshti argued, the Piraka were murderers and bandits, simply because they liked to be that way. The Barracks were different - having been great commanders in the past, they can be cynical and cruel, but only when it makes sense. They do not show cruelty simply because they like it, like maniacs or sadists. (unlike Pirak) And I think this is an interesting character development, because this way the concept of “only good and only evil” disappears. For example, the Barracks later helped the good guys.
The deep-sea barakki are the creepiest...
Especially Takadox or how she is called.

It's amazing how well the second half actually captures the personalities and respective MOs of the latter 3. Pridak's also slashing and biting at people so I guess he counts, too!
I am so baffled that after all these years,the ending with tentacle grab to the bottom of the ocean is supposed to be remained a mystery.

When toys were not just toys this was a real story with an amazing set of creatures characters and there was never something that could reach that level or nostalgia like Bionicle did.

Pure nostalgia! I vividly remember getting Pridak when I was a kid. I truly miss the good old days. It's funny to think that something as peculiar as Bionicle would stay with me as an adult. I'm still in love with this franchise and that love will carry on till the end.
Here I am 13 years later rewatching this and going down memory lane. My brother collected Bionicles for years and I loved them myself, but never got any. I'm 23 now and he's 25 and he still has them.

One of the best aspects of this commercial is how each of the barraki clearly show their unique personalities. Kalmah creeping up slowly, methodically, Ehlek hunched over and crawling animalistically, Pridak rapidly bursting into the scene, injuring Kalmah and then lunging for the mask as it falls down the pipe, Takadox manipulating Dekar into dropping the mask, before Mantax sneak attacks him from under the sand, then Carapar comes barreling in unsubtly either to take the mask or because he's being controlled by Takadox to protect him.
I remember this! I was 9 years old when I saw it as a commercial.

0:52 Holy shit! Pridak just cut Kalmah's tentacle! Oh, and don't say that a tentacle that wraps around, moves on it's own, can grasp a golden mask and can be cut, is a wheapon. That thing is 100% organic.
Well, the Matoran universe is consisted of half organic and half mechanical creatures, so yeah...

The Red One pulling the poor matoran into the trenches below is a legit fear of mine. Being stranded in open water, and an unidentified sea monster I can't see under me just drags me down in the ocean never to be seen again...kid me was terrified of this commercial. The Barraki are some, if not THE, most terrifying bionicles. The ocean is just a terrifying place you don't want to be stranded in

God. I love this so much. I remember watching and rewatching Bionicle videos on our old bulky desktop computer as a kid. I love the Barraki even more now, their designs are some of the most interesting in the entire Bionicle line, because they are each unique and based off of different sea creature. They truly are monstrous. I got Takadox and Pridak back then, though I really would like to get my hands on the other four. I've already gotten Nocturn, I consider him an honorary Barraki and he's just as badass if not the most badass.
