- Bionicle fan animation set to Anberlin’s Self-Starter. This was made in Blender and rendered in Eevee. It took about 18 months at a few hours each week. The Lego piece models were mostly taken from Stud.io parts packs. The Tahu Nuva model is one I made in Blender for an unfinished project a while back, and the Krana Bo model I made specifically for this project.
A few issues to note: Some of the motion blur and the smoke effects clearly didn't come out that well. The motion blur seems to be more of an Eevee thing (based on what others have said), and the dust trails (the only smoke effects I did myself) are just me not being able to do smoke physics that well. The ending is also a bit of a mess because I was trying to fit too much in with the music, otherwise I definitely would've let some of those shots breathe a little more.
Some of the assets in this are made by me (mainly certain models and particle effects). Many came from the sources I've linked below.

Bit of a nerd note for those who don't know, but the Rakhshi Tahu's fighting is the Shapeshifting type with its blue body and gold limbs, hence why it was originally a Bohrok~

Here I was wondering why they looked like bohroks but then turned into a kind of Rakhshi I've never seen, the design was too specific not to be on purpose, now I know why!

Edit: 8 months later and this is still a genuinely incredible piece of animation and filmmaking. For one creator to have done all the posing, lighting, music, sound effects, and more is unbelievable. You should be incredibly proud.

I cannot stress enough that this is genuinely one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Every frame of this thing is downright stunning and I can't believe it actually exists.

I think what I love the most about this is how much it feels like the scenarios I or any of us would make up as kids. The way they move so epically, the way its clear this short plays with ideas from the lore, but in its own unique way.
Ooh, I noticed that quick use of Hau shielding mid-combat! This is so well-done!
Oh Mata Nui, yes! That was a sick little detail that I had to go back and rewatch at half speed to make sure I was seeing it correctly.

I just watched it at half speed to catch all the details and OMG, you have a GIFT for fight choreography. This is absolutely brilliant, I love the details, and I love the little bits of mystery, like why were there Matoran hands coming out of the hole Tahu put the the Krana in? This is why I say Bionicle has a bright future with its fans, this is some of the most beautiful combat animation I've ever seen, like even better than many studios
Hey, you should take some credit too. I've been bingeing your backlog of video essays the last few days (I keep having to take breaks just to absorb and fully comprehend the poignant points you keep making) and people like you, who are starting to take a deeper and more mature look into the lore and its implications, are also doing a fantastic job of carrying Bionicle and keeping it relevant.

I've never really been into Bionicle like, at all, except for a figure that I owned when I was a kid...
And that is why I find this animation ASTOUNDING, like, holy frick, that battle animation is just absolutelly perfect, superb choreography and sense of movement; why arent there movies like this????
Many will say that Bionicle is long since dead but if you ask me it is still very much alive and this vid speaks for itself why it's still alive.
Any person who can use the Internet will confirm that Bionicle is still alive, since although it is not the largest, it is one of the most active communities. To this day, fanonizations of buildings are carried out, which are then entered into the lore, and artists and MOC creators made more quality art per day than almost any other even the most popular community for several years now. Let the rest chase after hype and actuality, popularity comes and goes, but we will probably enjoy something beautiful and eternal.

Absolutely phenomenal work! It's like I always imagined a fight scene between bionicles would be as a kid, instead I was kinda disappointed with how they just fire stuff from their weapons in the games instead of "sword" fighting ;)
A Bonkle movie in this format ... now this I could go for.
I think my favorite part of this that I haven't seen anyone else comment on is the blink-and-you'll miss it uses of the Mask of Shielding to block the Rahkshi's initial strike and the beam attack. This was made with so much passion!
Bionicle will be not forgotten
Bionicle may not be in stores but the fandom is still alive. Maybe even more.
Seeing toa actually hit things with their weapons is so good. Also the short few frames of tahu using the hau to block the initial attack aaah.
This looks like an original creation for a professional studio! The music, the choreography, the textures, the animation, the love you put in it, everything is flawless. It sure took you some time but the final product is perfect. Good job men, this is why bionicle is such an awesome lego theme, the fans remembers it even after all those years.
Getting some MAD Canister Wasteland vibes from the way they fight for the first half and if that was the intent then bravo you NAILED it

OK, this is awesome! I am always happy to see new Bionicle works, but this was a pleasant surprise.
I think one thing that deserves praise is the choreography of Tahu's greatswords. I feel dual swords are hard to choreograph without it looking awkward unless the choreographer knows what they are doing. You did a great job with them, and the transition to the single blade is very well done as well. Even if the motion blurs are a bit of a flaw, they do a good job of making the transitions between the two modes work. It looks great, and I hope to eventually see more.
Not gonna lie, this is what I thought the Bionicle movies were going to be like when they were first announced. I still wish they were.

A dead series is when no one cares about it anymore and it's forgotten. Bionicle isn't dead. it still has a strong fan community to this day.
I was genuinely trying to figure out the blue and gold Bohrok and then when it turned into the Rahkshi it clicked. Phenomenal job my dude. I'm glad to see the Bionicle community still going strong all these years later.

I also love that you chose Tahu Nuva and not any other Toa Mata. I love 2001, but we get 2001 fan content ALL the time, it's very refreshing seeing a Toa Nuva in action again. Im so happy about this, you really made my day. Thank you!
agreed. the Nuva were the toa in their prime i believe, they looked sleek and that they could probably take a good beating too. their mask and elemental powers were doubled, their tools were twice as awesome and they certainly weren't ugly like how they looked in 08.

I believe that TeamKanohi released all of their 3D models for the Bionicle Mask of Power game they're working on over on their discord, I haven't looked through the parts myself but they are free to use if I remember right.
This is fantastic and makes both the Bohrok and Rahkshi feel way more intimidating
If the Glatorian arc kept going before Lego nipped it in the bud, this would have been an excellent song choice for a commercial.
I really like the choregraphy : it looks to that while the Rahkshi is mainly sprinting and bashing his staff/blasting its powers furiously at Tahu, he, on the other hand, mainly focus on parrying the attacks before going on the offensive.
Shame on me for finding this only now, this isn't only a big tribute to bionicle, this is also one of the greatest fan animation and best choreographed fight I've ever seen, AMAZING!!!

This is some of the best fight coreography animation I have ever seen! I burst in to tears watching this because it is so beautiful, it looks exactly what I imagined as a kid playing with Bionicle! 😭😭😭
