    "PUT ON A DRAKE RECORD!"

      Donald Donahue III Put on a Drake record! Man Mike C-Towne's love/hate relationship with Drake continues! Though it is appropriate to suggest a Drake record in situations that are matters of the heart.

    I really don't know what this "invest in yourself" comment means. It sounds like something pulled off of daytime television. Giving people vague metaphors for success and trashing them for grinding and earning money is truly the death rattle of the American Dream. Maybe some people like what they do, maybe some have set goals to do something better in the future. I love your comment about how people can devalue their own experiences, not take the "journey" as a necessary and fulfilling part of life. This Dame Dash person is a joke, I'm sorry. I don't care about how much money he has or whatever. He seems like a shallow person and a shitty role model, wagging a finger from his lounge chair. I'll stop now...

    If everybody was a boss.. Who's gonna work? The world wouldn't even move anymore. Somebody has to flip them burgers, wash them cars.. Stock the shelves, and people agree with that nigga? Nah.. I hope he's trying to motivate people to do better, rather looking down on something who's at least doing something. I'm not even taking him seriously.

    You guys should have like an "Albums in the Pipeline" section in your description on twitter or something with albums you guys are planning to review that are out and what order there probably going to come out in. That would probably avoid alot of the frustration you guys feel getting hit up about it or people getting mad when a new review isn't the album they wanted. Although I imagine people still would hit you guys up anyway but I think it could help just having somewhere people could go to see what you guys are planning to review.

    I look at Dame as him trying to change the perception to get people to value ownership. Some of the statements were a bit irresponsible, but he did mention that you could sell candy or take advantage of technology such as making a cell phone video series and taking paypal donations ... so it doesn't necessarily have to be a large amount of capital to get started ... I have a job though, in order to keep money flowing as I build my brand, which is something he discussed in another video, having a consistent source of income unless you're comfortable being "broke" while you build your brand

  • @MrLexanderluther1986
    @MrLexanderluther1986 9 лет назад

    I agree, whole heartedly on your sentiments on Dame. Dude's delusional. When he asked "What's money to you?..is $100,000 money to you?"..."It's not to me..not to me." Ego stroke much! His smug attitude, and all the comments you've mentioned, trump the "positive, uplifting, self-motivating" aspects he has peppered into this bumptious, self-aggrandizing "interview". Can we even call it that? I wish people like him, the powerful ones would study sociology. For one, to know they're not the only ones who exist, and for two, to hopefully help hone their people skills! Also, the condescending "pause" after every other statement. When his son has a restaurants called Buns. Oh okay.

    I think Dame meant well as far as more people should aspire to be their own bosses but all the stuff about working makes you less of a man or whatever is just stupid. I think everyone should at least aim for their goals hard, even if they fail they at least tried. But if you need start up money.. yes go out and get you an entry level job just to save up. How do you expect someone to make money, legally, without getting a job? I guess there are certain things you can do like cut grass, wash cars, etc. on your own terms to get money but nothing wrong at all about getting a job.

      Bruh. Talk to these people! A lot of people are brought up in situations where they just don't have a lot of opportunities. In those situations, you make the best of what you have. Sure, you should always aspire for more, but don't beat yourself up just because you can't get it. You keep digging and keep working! This mentality of "be a boss or nothing" is just insanity to me!

Not quit your job and go sell drugs lol the main point of what dame was saying is don't be comfortable being mediocre and push to get more that's what i got from that interview .

    • @mykectown
      @mykectown  9 лет назад +2

      Here's the thing. When you don't personally know someone and that person gives an HOUR long convo saying the same dumb shit over and over again you have no choice but to take him literally. Especially when he literally makes the same stupid comment numerous times throughout the interview. So, nope. I didn't take him "too" literally.

    dame is right tho at the end of the day....most of black people have been working for people who do not look like us or share our interest for 400 years..He might have said what he said harshly but its true..every black man should want to own something to pass down to their family due to our poverty rate and racism etc...Yea everybody cant be a boss but everyone cant acheive the american dream either

    • @mykectown
      @mykectown  9 лет назад +8

      Y'all kill me with this shit. For the record, I agree with you. Everyone should WANT to own something, but that's not what he said. When someone you respect says some dumb shit, people are always trying to beat around the point to try to pull something positive from it so they don't have to admit that someone they like said something that is painfully unreasonable. He did not encourage people to start up black businesses (like I said in the video). He said "If you get a job you are not a real man." So what I'd like you to do is stop talking about points he didn't make and actually explain that one that he did make. While you're at it, explain how a young man gets money to start up a business without having a job unless he was born financially privileged.

    • @sag2240
      @sag2240 9 лет назад +1

      lol...yea of course that makes sense what you said..but what i said is what he was basically saying..when he asked the radio people how long they been working it was alot of years they said..some over ten years so he is saying they could get their own shit at this point and its over due.....ways to get money...use your parents lawnmower and cut grass for the summer put money aside and get a leaf blower for fall..put money aside get a snow blower..kids are writing books selling thousands of them before they even graduate high school..you can borrow you parents cleaning supplies to start a home cleaning business....its a lot of ways brah

    • @mykectown
      @mykectown  9 лет назад +3

      Sa G It's Ok to tell someone that they could get their own shit. But, once again, that's not what he said. And you have still not addressed the statements I asked you to clarify. As far as these ways to make money "put money aside to get a snow blower." Bruh...what money?!?! You do know allowance doesn't exist to poor kids, right? "Borrow your parents cleaning supplies to start a home cleaning business." Haha! I don't know where you grew up, homie, but if I took my mom's shit to go clean someone's house...even if I made a couple bucks off that, I'd have gotten my ass whipped! Hahaha! In all seriousness, though, you have also consider the environment that you're in. If you are a lower class kid, who in your neighborhood can afford to pay you to clean their house? I sure as shit didn't have a house cleaner when I was a kid. Me, my brother and my sister...we were the house cleaners. I'm not saying it's not a good idea to encourage people to wanna be better, but it's shitty to put them down because they haven't figured out a way to do it yet.

    • @sag2240
      @sag2240 9 лет назад

      im in cleveland i know about poor kids..lol..naw of course youre going to go wher people have the money to pay you of course...kids sell candy in school, they sell sneakers in school..kids cut hair for money and just keep stacking money...yea dame has a sharp tongue i agree

    • @mykectown
      @mykectown  9 лет назад +1

      Sa G Ah! What up, Clevo! I'm actually one of the few people that has enjoyed my time there. Haha! But anyway, I'm just saying that every business venture requires start up money. And I see nothing wrong with getting a job in order to get that money. You gotta get money to buy the candy to sell. You gotta get money to buy the sneakers to sell. Although, this is my first time hearing of young kids selling shoes at school. Times have changed since my old ass was in school! When I was young it was just candy. $.25 for a Cry Baby! Haha! Kids would cut lawns to get money to buy candy to, then, turn around and sell them to idiots like me for an inflated price. Now THAT was hustling! But the hustle always started with a legitimate job.

      well in the interview he did say we dont have businesses to pass down to our families which is true..our parents generation somewhat failed us because they thought they could work at a facotry for 30 years and thats it..which is what dame was saying.....

    • @mykectown
      @mykectown  9 лет назад

    • @sag2240
      @sag2240 9 лет назад

      ok well i said he has a sharp tongue which is nothing new...instead of saying calling a man boss is like calling a man daddy he could have said it in a better way..dame is often to direct and there are parts in the interview where it seems he has loss touch with how people survive on a day to day basis that dont sell drugs...the best thing he should have said was get a job until you have money saved up to do what you want to do...dame should have give more attention to the fact that people come from poorer areas and basically depend on a job and their parents are dependent on working so they carry that mentality..And its very easy to say a person should be a boss but everyone cant..maybe him saying black people come togehter and build instead of everyone be a chief instead of an indian.

      Sa G My man...you do realize we are now saying the exact same thing?

  • @joebloe4491
    @joebloe4491 9 лет назад

    I respect your opinion BUT, I think you're overlooking when he told the Breakfast Club that they shouldn't be working the same job for 10 or 20 years, without trying to carve out a way to be self-employed. If you think about it that's one of the MAIN reasons why blacks are in the the position blacks are in our current powerless position; we don't own much! Which is why most blacks can't say or do what they should because they have to kiss the white man's ass to survive. I viewed his interview as a misspoken call for black empowerment. Which is why we're in the position we're in today. We solely pursue employment, with little thought to own anything. NO other race of people do that.

    • @mykectown
      @mykectown  9 лет назад

      I didn't overlook that point. I said in the video that striving for entrepreneurship is great. However, his logic is painfully flawed because if you're sitting here telling the world that if you're not a boss then you're not a real man, then you are a major part of the problem. If you have no workers, then that means you have no product to sell in order to make money off of. My problem is he's giving out business advice that, if anyone followed it, they'd be in the poor house. The point that I disagree with has nothing to do with black people not owning things. It has to do with shitting on the people who break their backs to get us where we are today. And that what I think people are overlooking. You wanna know another problem with the black community? We fetishize celebrities to a fault. We make role models out of rappers and refuse to call them out when they do or say something stupid (such as this situation). I saw no call for black empowerment. I saw a man who was pissed off because Charlamagne was wearing a Jay-Z shirt and Envy asked him about Jay-Z and then chose to display his anger by trying to emasculate the men in the room. Envy's not a man because he works for the station and Charlamagne is a "Chatty Patty" or a woman because he asked him about something that he heard. Going to another man's house and insulting his profession is not empowerment. Telling someone that they're lazy because they work is not empowerment. Attempting to emasculate someone over your own hurt feelings is not empowerment. It's ignorance and bullying. I really wish y'all would see this shit for what it is instead of trying to pull a positive message from an overall negative one.
