    Lord. I feel like I have to say this cuz people are getting my words hella twisted. I'm not saying that Meet The Grahams wasn't good or that I disliked the song. I'm saying it didn't move me the way it did other folks and that it was my least favorite of the Kendrick songs from the diss. That's all. Nothing more. Nothing less. It's a good song. Just not as good as the other three in my opinion.

      I feel you. I think more than any of the other Kendrick tracks, it's the one that relies the most on someone being invested in the "moment" of the beef rather than the music surrounding it, if that makes any sense. The shock value of Kendrick dropping that shit ten seconds after Family Matters and taking it in a vastly more dramatic direction than Drake obviously expected carried it for a lot of folks.
      But yeah it's still a solid track. It along with "We Cry Together" makes me desperately want a Kendrick×Alchemist full length.

      @user-hg4hz1lx2h No, he either misinterpreted the song or wrote his bar poorly. Drake said, "That's that song where you say you got molested." That's a fairly literal wording. The fact is that Kendrick did not say he got molested. His mom simply didn't believe him. Now, maybe you think that Drake meant that Kendrick really did get molested and is in denial, but that's not what Drake actually rapped. Drake simply messed up. He also doubled down by indicating indicating that Kendrick is obsessed with attempting to pin him as a pedo because Kendrick is a victim. This line only makes sense if Drake truly believes Kendrick was molested. It was simply a misstep on Drake's part.

The way he delivered bars like “pusha TEE” “you don’t wanna work w me no mo OKAY” “you don’t know nun bout daaattt” “A MINOR” “all eyes on me and I’m gonna send it up to Pac” just got stuck in my head. My favorite thing about Not Like Us is that it would still be a great song even if it wasn't directed at Drake at all.
    The party/clubbing scene has always had issues with creeps and pedos preying on the young and naive, so to have a club banger calling those types out DIRECTLY while everyone is listening is not only fun, it's necessary.

Yall are weird asf for dancing to a Song about a predators and a crime that I wouldn’t even joke about. 2. But, to say that “They” in they not like us implies Diddy, R Kelly, numerous others in the industry is such a reach and a projection it’s not even funny. I’ll do you one better Kendrick literally try’s his hardest to get ppl to say Drake isn’t Black, but right in “his” City, plenty of OhGessys and other Latino rappers say the N word, but he won’t address them, we got concrete proof on Diddy but, he won’t call him out by name. I can't imagine Meet The Grahams dropping after like a day or 2 from Family Matters.
    The immediate clap back really helped make the song sting considering most of Family Matters brought up more of Kendrick's Family/Friends.

    • @balaskar
      @balaskar 7 месяцев назад +2

      I'm just trying to understand coz that part never hit me. He clearly just dropped a pre-recorded diss which even Rick Ross did. I understand it was cool but why did ppl get THAT hyped by that? If he was directly responding to family matters and referencing a bunch of bars in it THEN I understand. He just recorded a song and was waiting till drake dropped to press "post".

    • @Rammy_Latin
      @Rammy_Latin 7 месяцев назад +6

      @@balaskar Mainly bc Kendrick is a better writer than Rick Ross is. They used the same tactic sure but Kendrick's song was better written and overall a more vile diss with new accusations. Plus it used shock value so people are gonna remember it.

      @bluemannchew20 7 месяцев назад +10

      @@balaskar In my opinion it was the strategy of it. Family Matters was supposed to be Drake's red button, something that would build up in people's minds and make them talk about Drake's skill as a rapper while questioning Kendrick's character based on the allegations he made. It would be hard to come back from the general public thinking about whether or not you're a domestic abuser for several days, regardless of if it's true or not. Instead, MTG dropped half an hour afterwards, 1. making people hyped out of their minds from three songs dropping in a single day, 2. directing public conversation towards questioning Drake's character instead, and 3. making people believe that he actually had moles in Drake's camp because of the song art cover and from him seemingly knowing what Drake would bring up in Family Matters because of some of the lyrics.
      It was also just really creepy sounding and absolutely ruthless.

    • @notbemon
      @notbemon 7 месяцев назад +5

      @@balaskareven pre-recorded it not only was a way to drop the big allegations BUT dropping it 40 minutes later was the way to overshadow Family Matters. All the hype that was around that song transposed into Meet the Grahams, which numbers is the number 1 thing for Drake so it's a big fuck you steering away the attention/moment from him. Also then dropping a club banger just a day later addressing last night's song and doubling down directly on some allegations.

      @210tx 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@balaskarKendrick didn’t respond directly to Family Matters but it was implied. He mentioned how Drake spoke on his family and is a manipulative liar. I love horror movies, so Meet the Grahams was right uo my alley. It gave me the feel of the opening track of 7 day theory. The piano themes in both songs are chilling as hell. He's at his most straightforward in the track, and i feel like it was on purpose. It took the wind out of everyones sails. People were swaggin on family matters only to face depression 45 mins later. Lol
    Also, you dont have to preface the review with the other more important things you were paying attention to. Theres always more important things to pay attention to than anything we do to decompress.
    Also also, big ups to prof skye. Reminds me of the great comedians can craft an offensive turn of phrase successfully. And others not as much.
    People think the gripes about drake are simply kendrick d riders, drake haters, etc. The beef proved that one person knew how to convey their message in the most effective way. *looks at all of the weird bars in the heart part 6 and the botched taylor made freestyle*

    I feel similarly to you Myke, where we diverge though, is in Meet the Grahams. The memory of hearing that haunting beat has been seared into my brain. Also the last verse is such a stripped down, “I’m talking to yo soul nigga” moment that it’s the beginning of the end of the battle for me.
