Got into The Cure way too late but better late than never. Songs of a Lost a World is my introduction to them and what a way to kick off my journey with their music - it’s amazing. I must’ve replayed “I Can Never Say Goodbye” for a good hour after first hearing it. And God, “Endsong” is just absolutely killer. Can’t wait to deep dive into their other work, especially their most iconic stuff.

Thank you so much Myke C-Town for introducing me to some badass music☺️ I always look forward to your list and I always discover some hidden gems from you. Hope this year brings you many great things.
Much love Myke! My top album this year was Two Star and The Dream Police by Mk.gee, and 100% PROD I.V. by LUCY (Cooper B. Handy) was a close second. Thanks always for the energy, and for the music conversation. You harvest a great community!

I think this is the first year that my honorable mentions list is even longer than my top 50; I had around 65 albums that I couldn't fit on here. In total, I ended up sampling close to 1,500 albums this year (not necessarily full listens, obviously), so I feel like I got a very good grasp on 2024 overall. 1. The Last Dinner Party - Prelude to Ecstasy (amazing Kate Bush-esque baroque pop) 2. Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk 3. Thou - Umbilical (a ferocious sludge metal album that doesn't drag at all) 4. Geordie Greep - The New Sound 5. Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubilee 6. Umbra Vitae - Light of Death 7. Chat Pile - Cool World 8. Warmduscher - Too Cold to Hold 9. Mdou Moctar - Funeral for Justice 10. With an overseas trip mid year, saving up & paying off that, I was way out of the loop of what was dropping. Hardly kept up. Definitely some releases I'll check out for sure. Knew the #1 haha!!! Good stuff Myke.
There's so much I haven't listened to yet (due to laziness or procrastination) but these are ten that I liked in 2024. In random order: Sleepytime Gorilla Museum: Of The Last Human Being Shellac: To All Trains Belly: 96 Miles From Bethlehem Goat Girl: Below The Waste High On Fire: Cometh The Storm Arooj Aftab:: Night Reign Chelsea Wolfe: She Reaches Out To She Chat Pile: Cool World Blood Incantation: Absolute Elsewhere Moor Mother: The Great Bailout
I was surprised Blood Incantation didn't make the list. I'm excited to check some of these releases out - you have pointed me to so much good music in the past
Always excited when your list drops as there is inevitably new shit I get to check out that I missed. So I’m already taking notes and making lists. I always do a top 50 but I won’t put those below because absolutely no one cares what I think however I will throw my 10 favorites and for what it’s worth and anyone wanting to check out something new, my band (Interpersonal) put out a record in October called “The Long Bright Dark.” People who enjoy Emo, Post-Hardcore, Shoegaze, etc might enjoy it. Okay anyway list 1. One Step Closer - All You Embrace (this album hit me like a two ton truck and all the hooks and emotion had me in a chokehold this year) 2. The Cure - Songs of a Lost World 3. Johnny Blue Skies/Sturgill Simpson - Passage Du Desir 4. Squint - Small Hands (biased because they’re my friends and from my city, but it’s still great) 5. Touché Amore - Spiral In a Straight Line 6. State Faults - Children of the Moon 7. Tyler, the Creator - CHROMOKOPIA 8. Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere 9. Drug Church - PRUDE 10. Kendrick Lamar - GNX
Really loved that Conifere album - kind of reminded me of Tragedy of all bands in a lot of spots. That Paysage d'Hiver was absolutely in my top 10 as well - other bands are riffier, some are more abrasive and explosive sounding, but for me Tobias has created the prefect frozen, bitter sound for black metal. I can only think of the smallest handful of bands that match them sonically.
Myke, as always your list is great to watch. You always show me a few things I was unaware of and a few more I need to remember to check out. Speaking of, I need to listen to that Moor Mother. I like a lot of her previous work but slept on this one like a fool. I also need to spend more time with The Cure album but that's a little more deliberate. I want to let it work its way into my life like their other albums have been. Here's my list, it's long and it's only kind of in order. Shellac - To All Trains is my AOTY. I feel like it got lost in the news about Steve Albini's passing but this has become one of my favorite albums he made, and I've been listening to his bands since I was in high school 35 years ago. Kim Deal - Nobody Loves You More Blood Incantation - Absolute Everywhere Chat Pile - Cool World Couch Slut - You Could Do It Tonight Melvins - Tarantula Heart Pissed Jeans - Half Divorce Goat - Goat Shovels & Rope - Something Is Working Above My Head Undeath - More Insane Sprints - Letter To Self Ekko Astral - Pink Balloons X - Smoke & Fiction Osees - SORCS 80 Knoll - As Spoken Slift - Ilion Kim Gordon - The Collective High On Fire - Cometh The Storm Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She Full Of Hell - Coagulated Bliss Oranssi Pazuzu - Muutautuja The Jesus Lizard - Rack Human Impact - Gone Dark Uniform - American Standard Wormwitch - Wormwitch The Obsessed - Gilded Sorrow Thou - Umbilical God Bullies - As Above So Below Meridian Brothers - Mi Latinoamérica Sufre Toadliquor - Back In The Whole Meth. - Shame Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To Gatecreeper - Dark Superstition Slimelord - Chitridiomycosis Relinquished Kendrick Lamar - GNX Job For A Cowboy - Moon Healer The Chisel - What A Fucking Nightmare Tzompantli - Beating The Drums Of Ancestral Force Guided By Voices - Strut Of Kings Jon Spencer - Sick Of Being Sick! Nuclear Tomb - Terror Labyrinthian The Body - The Crying Out Of Things Mdou Moctar - Funeral For Justice Ty Segall - Three Bells Iron Monkey - Spleen & Goad Civerous - Maze Envy Melt-Banana - 3+5 Memo PST - Memo PST Nails - Every Bridge Burning Neil Young & The Horse - Fu##in’ Up Dale Crover - Glossolalia Stress Eater - Everybody Eats! Danny Brown - Quaranta Deterioration - Paranoia & Violence Acid King - Middle Of Nowhere, Center Of Everywhere Cavalera - Schizophrenia The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World Painkiller - Samsara Immortal Bird - Son Querencia Terminal Nation - Echo’s Of The Devil's Domain Inter Arma - New Heaven Hulder - Verses In Oath JPEGMAFIA - I Lay Down My Life For You Bongzilla - Dabbing [Live] Rosin In Europe The Smile - Wall Of Eyes Witch Vomit - Funeral Sanctum Zig Zags - Strange Masters Vol 1 Antichrist Siege Machine - Vengeance Of Eternal Fire Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Wild God Scum Rotten - Pray For Blindness (I Have Seen Too Much
@mykectown The Shellac album came out about a week after Albini died (that was the originally planned release date). Like I said, I think the discussion about it got a little lost in all talk around his legacy. I definitely recommend it to Shellac fans, and fans of that kind of music. He went out on a song called "I Don't Fear Hell". How bad ass is that?
Yeeees been waiting for this!!!! my top 30: Armand Hammer - BLK LBL Vince Staples - Dark Times Grace Cummings - Ramona Selbst - Despondency Chord Progressions Crizin da Z.O. - ACELERO Various Artists - funk.BR - São Paulo (NTS) Cannell Laura - The Rituals of Hildegard Reimagined Lesser Care - HEEL TURN Omar Souleyman - Erbil The Body , Dis Fig - Orchards Of A Futile Heaven Poroniec - W Pologu Ink & Fire - Emblazoned Visions Yield Eternity Amiture - Mother Engine Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere Vitriol - Suffer & Become Djevel - Natt Til Ende JPEGMAFIA - I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU Waxahatchee - Tigers Blood Cower - Celestial Devastation Full of Hell - Coagulated Bliss Full of Hell and Andrew Nolan - Scraping The Divine SECT - Plagues Upon Plagues Elucid - Revelator Revival Season - Golden Age Of Self Snitching KA - The Thief Next to Jesus Venus Twins - /\/\/\/\/ Kriegshög - Love & Revenge Moor Mother - The Great Bailout Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She 070 Shake - Petrichor

Surprised the Chat Pile album didn't make it here. I'd also recommend the new Vegyn album, it's one of the best electronic albums in a while imo. Thanks for the Clivota recommendation earlier this year as well, really great album

Much of your list is over my head, since I pretty much hate anything metal regardless of its sub-genre, but I still find it interesting. (your list, I mean) I love Songs of a Lost World; I've been into the Cure for a long time. Enjoyed your video.

Love the list man! Thanks for sharing, definitely going to check some of these out. Since you liked Saidan, give the new Spider God album "Possess the Devil" a try. I think the two bands have a fair bit of overlap in their current sound, and I personally enjoyed that release a bit more than Saidan's (which, as you pointed out, was pretty good). Right now I can only think of about a dozen albums that really stuck with me, might come back and add more later if I can remember any others. 13. Alcest - Les chants de l'aurore 12. Vredehammer - God Slayer 11. Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To 10. Deca - Bough 9. Hulder - Verses in Oath 8. Lupe Fiasco - Samurai 7. Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God 6. End of the year lists are necessary to keep the scene alive and the listeners interested in what comes out. Moreover it is a testament to the quality of the year and as reference for other people to check out things
I think so too,. I don't really get all the complaints about people doing them. Especially since most of the people I see do them just do them for fun.

Hey Myke, great list! If you like what Saidan are doing, you should check out Spider God’s ‘Possess the Devil’. Another album in a similar vein from 2024… 😎
Törnen is actually an Alex Poole project, not Swartadauþuz. But Alex Poole is like the American version of Swartadauþuz, so it's all good. Great record, either way. Great list!
Shit. You know what...I just checked MA and they have it listed as being from Sweden and I see that someone submitted a correction in October saying Swarti is not in the band. So I just never saw the correction until now. Damn. And I really like Alex Poole's projects A LOT so I feel bad for that fuck up! But I'm blaming MA. Haha.
Happy new year mate, always dig your lists. You are right, ol' Swarti had many great contributions this year and Secrets is the top of that pile for sure. Gnipalahan sounds awesome too but I need that LP in my hands! Qaalm I don't know, but your description sounds great. Nimbifer is still in the post to me, but it sounded awesome. Ukhu Pacha is completely new to me! I really need to catch up with Paysage, not heard anything since the massive Im Wald set. Regarding the honorable mentions, I need to get that Invunche but it's already thin on the ground out there, might be hard to find! Great lists as usual. Oh yeah and my Top List video! ruclips.net/video/u70AX6EQndM/видео.html
Yeah your list was great. You had quite a few that I'd never heard of! Which I can always count on you for! Hope you did the Qaalm album. It's an old buddy of mine and i"m really proud of what he's doing.
Myke C-Town! Subbing brother!! -Chad P from puritan/hassan (I feel cheesy to list the ex band names lol but figured it to be the best way if ya can remember me, man!!!!!)

Great list Myke! Thanks for putting me on to so much stuff here, I'll be checking a ton of it out. Did you ever check out the experimental jazz project on Backwoodz, ØKSE? I just discovered their album from last year and I can't stop playing it.
I pretty much knew what your number one was gonna be! Meanwhile, that new Cure album made me into a bit of a fan of the band this past year. I also need to start getting more into Swartidaupus’ black metal projects. I have heard Beketh Nehexmu, but nothing else from him. I should warn you that some of his projects are unfortunately on sketchy labels, but… that can be black metal sometimes, unfortunately. You know how it goes. Speaking of incredibly prolific black metal musicians, Trhä just put out a couple new EP’s the day after Christmas recently… and both of them are good!
The dude from Trha is an absolute maniac! Haha. And most of Swarti's projects are through Purity Through Fire or Amor Fati these days. I know he worked in a few projects with Sir N which were released through DTB back in the day but that was a long time ago. Him working in a few projects with Alex Poole (who, to my knowledge, is antifascist) has always given me hope that Swarti is, at least, not fascist.
Haha! In all seriously, bro, I'm only able to pronounce his name thanks to you! Haha! Using your voice snippet so many times forced me to learn it. I'm really just mimicking you! And yeah, I meant to actually send that Contention to you. I think you'll love it!
@mykectown Kinda was devastated it was over, but all good things I guess.. In all fairness I missed a bunch of his output this year, like Gnipahålan. Fixing that asap. HNY Sir.✌🏼
here are my list list of my favorite hip hop albums myke - now two of them droped last year - one is just deluxe edition and one i discovered this year: Elucid - Revelator Blu & Evidence - Los Angeles Blu Exile - Love (the) Ominous World Jpegmafia - Lay down my life Mach Hommy - Richaxx Roc Marciano - Marciology Ka- Thief next to jesus Pete Rock, Common -The Auditorium vol 1 Danny Brown - Quaranta Rome Streetz, Daringer - Hatton Garden Holdup The Alchemist - Genuine Articulate Buck 65 - Super Dope Hus Kingpin - In the state of Nirvana Apollo Brown creamapple - This is not that Willie The Kid & V Don- Deutche Marks 4
Great list. Did you happen to hear the other project from Swartadauþuz Balwezo Westijiz - Tower of Famine? Also, I'm not 100% sure about Black Cilice but I know they're on Iron Bonehead and the label is incredibly sketch. They will release anything by anyone sketch or not. Just an FYI
I did hear Balwezo Westijz but it's one of his only projects that didn't do much for me. As far as IBP, I've never really got folks saying the label, as a whole, is so sketch. They just come off as one of those "we don't care about people's political affiliations" kinda labels. Which is def lame but I dunno that IU'd go as far as saying all the bands on the label are sketch. But perhaps I'm missing something...
Impossible lights so good it made the honorable mentions list twice 🔥🔥🔥
Listen to it twice, foo!
Yoooooo thank you so much for checking our album out 🖤🖤🖤
Such an honor to be included in the honorable mentions! thank you Myke Love, Always

I'm not going to post my 60+ list of honorable mentions because it would take up way too much space, but it consists of albums by these bands: Saidan; NO MAN; Cosmic Putrefaction; Summoning the Lich; A Place to Bury Strangers; Fat Dog; Michelle; Ripped to Shreds; Civerous; Osees; Remi Wolf; The Lemon Twigs; Blood Incantation; Aetheria Conscientia; Tribulation; Ulcerate; Charli XCX; Krallice; Glass Beach; Robber Robber; Nap Eyes; Nicolette & the Nobodies; St. Vincent; and quite a few more...
With an overseas trip mid year, saving up & paying off that, I was way out of the loop of what was dropping. Hardly kept up. Definitely some releases I'll check out for sure. Knew the #1 haha!!! Good stuff Myke.
Great list...and no further words needed - The Cure....Songs of a lost world 🖤
There's so much I haven't listened to yet (due to laziness or procrastination) but these are ten that I liked in 2024.
In random order:
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum: Of The Last Human Being
Shellac: To All Trains
Belly: 96 Miles From Bethlehem
Goat Girl: Below The Waste
High On Fire: Cometh The Storm
Arooj Aftab:: Night Reign
Chelsea Wolfe: She Reaches Out To She
Chat Pile: Cool World
Blood Incantation: Absolute Elsewhere
Moor Mother: The Great Bailout
I was surprised Blood Incantation didn't make the list. I'm excited to check some of these releases out - you have pointed me to so much good music in the past
Always a pleasure checking out albums on your yearlist
Always excited when your list drops as there is inevitably new shit I get to check out that I missed. So I’m already taking notes and making lists.
I always do a top 50 but I won’t put those below because absolutely no one cares what I think however I will throw my 10 favorites and for what it’s worth and anyone wanting to check out something new, my band (Interpersonal) put out a record in October called “The Long Bright Dark.” People who enjoy Emo, Post-Hardcore, Shoegaze, etc might enjoy it.
Okay anyway list
1. One Step Closer - All You Embrace (this album hit me like a two ton truck and all the hooks and emotion had me in a chokehold this year)
2. The Cure - Songs of a Lost World
3. Johnny Blue Skies/Sturgill Simpson - Passage Du Desir
4. Squint - Small Hands (biased because they’re my friends and from my city, but it’s still great)
5. Touché Amore - Spiral In a Straight Line
6. State Faults - Children of the Moon
7. Tyler, the Creator - CHROMOKOPIA
8. Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere
9. Drug Church - PRUDE

Damn,. Don't think I knew about the Shellac album.

Great picks. Happy New Year. The Ulcerate album was my favourite album of the year. My missus would agree on The Cure.
Still haven't been able to get into Ulcerate. Not sure why. Gonna keep trying. Haha.
@@mykectown It's pretty dense, though somehow also works as ambience for me when I am in the right mood.
Couldn't agree more about The Cure album! Happy new year Myke!
We had the same #1 for Songs Of A Lost World. Good to know someone else is a genius.
this is the year end list i've been waiting for
Awesome to see Qaalm on the list again. Love everything Henry Derek Elis does. Damn I forgot about that Moor Mother release. I need to pick that up.
no wayy haha I was just rewatching an old video of yours for the vibes, went back to your video catalogue and boom a new one popped up o.0
Surprised the Chat Pile album didn't make it here. I'd also recommend the new Vegyn album, it's one of the best electronic albums in a while imo.
Thanks for the Clivota recommendation earlier this year as well, really great album

Love that Sturgill album!

Amazing album and a good dude!

Had never heard of Aara but this is really cool!

Nah, can't really get into doom with the exception of a few bands.
an actual interesting top
End of the year lists are necessary to keep the scene alive and the listeners interested in what comes out. Moreover it is a testament to the quality of the year and as reference for other people to check out things
I think so too,. I don't really get all the complaints about people doing them. Especially since most of the people I see do them just do them for fun.

Hey Myke, great list! If you like what Saidan are doing, you should check out Spider God’s ‘Possess the Devil’. Another album in a similar vein from 2024… 😎
I dig Spider God but I kinda keep forgetting about them. Not sure why.
Of course I remember you, homie!!! Thanks for subbing! Good to hear from you!
My top 15 in no particular order:
Infant Island - Obsidian Wreath
Drug Church - Prude
Touché Amoré - Spiral in a Straight Line
Contention - Artillery from Heaven
Nails - Every Bridge Burning
Full of Hell - Coagulated Bliss
Regional Justice Center - Freedom Sweet Freedom
Tenue - Arcos, bóvedas, pórticos
Frail Body - Artificial Bouquet
The Cure - Songs of a Lost World
Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead - Tragedy As Catharsis
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - No Title as of 13 February 2024 28,340 Dead
Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To
Potence - Cinq années de nuit
Father John Misty - Mahashmashana
There were a lot of great released this year though, could easily have made it a top 30
Your top 15 is 2 albums. That's wild.
Great list Myke! Thanks for putting me on to so much stuff here, I'll be checking a ton of it out. Did you ever check out the experimental jazz project on Backwoodz, ØKSE? I just discovered their album from last year and I can't stop playing it.
Yeah, it's fucking awesome!
Props on the Nausea shirt they rip face
Didn’t expect to see the FB love. Love you homie
Back at cha, big dawg. Looking forward to the full length.
I knew it was gonna be the cure, and rightfully so! B-)
Let’s goo big myke in the building big baby Jesus myke man
You actually did it this year.. Four times no less 🙃 Congrats. Gotta check Contention.
HNY Sir.✌🏼
@@mykectown checked the Contention btw, you're not wrong on the H8000 influences. Definitely reminds me its time to put on the State Craft lp again.✌🏼
Shouts to the King Carl Kavorkian on the high notes! SHABBA!

The only list that matters
Everything Myke was spitting from 2:03 onwards is why he’s GOATed!!!
the lack of uboa love this year by critics has been CRIMINAL!
I agree! I don't get it!
Ben Chasny can do no wrong - anything he does will always be in the top whatever list of whomever.
I'm wondering if you had a chance to listen to Mars Kumari- Daybreak? folks are sleeping on that one!
@mykectown
Yeah I mean more that when I see a band on IBP I definitely want to double and triple check out the band first.
@@thehighground_ Haha. That's any black metal band for me, these days.
@mykectown regrettably accurate.
🔥
I think we all knew what #1 was going to be. lmao Great list!
