"Synapse creatures? Frankly, I find the idea of a bug that thinks o-ffensive!" Great paint scheme. Starship Troopers made me the tyranid fan I am today!
Duncan, I was huge into 40k from about 1999 through 2009, when I gave it up to focus on college and since I no longer had friends to play with and my local stores had closed. Long story short, I moved a while ago, made new friends, a couple of them are nerds of the highest order and when 10th edition 40k started making news we decided to get back into it, and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the hobby. Back then, I never really tried to paint "correctly" or followed guides, I didn't develop the patience for it. My armies were relatively clean but very lumpy and unfinished looking. This time though I am deliberately looking up how to paint, and your channel has been absolutely amazing. Even with my "first" real tries at painting minis it's miles ahead of where I left off 14 years ago despite not having touched paints since then. Thank you for such great production and sharing your experience.

I love how the colours stand out so boldly. I like how the bugs have different colours for different subspecies. It'd be awesome to see you do that for the tyranids.
I absolutely love this colour scheme. At first glance it looks like it'd be a real pain to paint an entire army like this, but it seems like it'd lend itself pretty well to batch painting.
Honestly, this is amazing. As a big starship troopers fan this made my day. The possibilities for kitbash/customisations. I can already see a space marine hand with a knife though it stapled to a base! Thanks for such a great video.
I literally had given a large amount of time and consideration to doing an army with the theme you have made here all the way back in 2017. Sadly I was a complete novice as far as painting was concerned so I changed course and went with a Raven Guard army to get my feet wet. For years I have always returned to the concept of the Klendathu army and made zero progress. Thank you for making this, because I always got bogged down with how to make it translate when the bugs are so vastly different in appearance to the Tyranids. You rock!!!
Fantastic job, you made the warrior bug colors work on a Tyranid! Hive Fleet Klendathu is a challenging scheme but would make for a very impressive army once done. Happy painting and good luck to any who choose this color scheme!
That gloss over the eyes is really good advice. I can feel it watching me even through the video, now imagine a hundred eyes doing that on the battlefield!
Mate, all those references and quotes... I have never seen something so glorious, Duncan clearly doing his part! setting a fine example of what a true Citizen looks like and represents. So much of it, exact words of the text..... however, If you're mate is getting through progress faster than you... Just remember, the enemy cannot paint a miniature, if you disable his hand 🫲
Xenomorphs don't translate well to paint schemes on miniatures, however. As they are mostly dark, with only hints of reflective, glossy color, and as the Tyranids have structurally become very different from xenomorphs, it just ends up looking like they were primed black with a gloss coat.
As soon as I saw the title "Hive Fleet Klendathu" I knew you'd have an absolute field day with this one! Excellent video as always. Love how it came out (not that I'd cherish painting 30-40 of them!)
Fantastic video and paint job! Would personally put some more yellow overall, but this is still too cool! Been thinking of doing this scheme for my Leviathan box so this is pretty well timed!
Awesome. Looking at all the reference images we could find, they do vary. Some have lots of red and others lots of yellow. It would be fun to vary it 😊
That came out so great! I went with a pinkish skin and purple armor scheme with a blue design. But like you said, not all bugs look the same! I do get a lot out of your videos! So thanks and keep up the good work!!!
That looks amazing and would no doubt be incredibly impressive on the tabletop - but it's so full of freehand details that the thought of trying to get a horde army of these monsters painted in anything approaching a reasonable timespan fills me with dread...
Awesome color scheme. Looks cool on the tyranids. I loved the movie when I was Young and I still do today haha. C´mon you apes, do you wanna live forever?!
Fantastic video, so well done! Amazing colour scheme, although I don’t fancy trying it for a full force. Love Starship Troopers, so this video was just what I needed today. ‘I hear your editor is a reeaal nutbuster!’ ‘Fully automatic Lasgun, who wants to hold one?’ Welcome to the Roughnecks! Rhodey’s Roughnecks!’
That went completely different from what I was expecting and that colour scheme is absolutely badass! I thought it would end up looking similar to a black and yellow colour scheme I saw years ago in a white dwarf magazine
I've still got the Battle For Macragge Tyranids from nearly 20 years ago (plus somewhere a 3rd Carnifex) unpainted... suddenly have some inspiration to vaguely mimic this brilliant scheme (which then risks turning into a Combat Patrol!). As always, loved the video and really enjoyed the movie references throughout. 🖖🏻
I love this theme, little known fact in the spirit of this theme. The movies desert scenes were filmed in what is known as the "Red Desert" in the state of Wyoming. I live but 2 hours from the filiming location.
Nids really do allow for going completely crazy with painting. Almost anything can and will work on the bugs. The Starship Troopers bugs are a great choice for a colour scheme.
If you wanted accurate Starship Troopers you'd paint your guard in maroon and field a small army of terminator armor with jump packs and tactical nukes.
"Naked Force Has Resolved More Conflicts Throughout History Than Any Other Factor" I love this idea and I'm disappointed I didnt think of it. Recently listened to the audio book (Very different) after loving the movie for... Years.
I'd use Exocrines for the Plasma Bugs, paint them that iridescent blue/black carapace with the glowing blue plasma for the canon. Maybe carnifex for Tiger bugs. That black and yellow tiger stripe pattern would look great on them. Pyrovores seem pretty perfect for Tankers.

It would look cool wouldn't it?
That looks sick. If I had a tyranid army, I probably would base them off either xenomorphs or arachnids.
Agreed! They work so well as either plus it's always fun to riff off a classic film
