Long time ago, my mom had a friend that was a tattoo artist, who has since passed away. I got my first tattoo from him when I was 18 (over 30 years ago). Mind you, this man had 25 yrs experience when I was 18.
Sitting in the shop, I asked how he learned to tattoo. He laughed and told me pig's feet.
Wait. Wut?!
Yep. He would go to the butcher and get freshly butchered pigs feet and that's how he first started to learn to work on skin as an apprentice.
Also, my mother is still "mad" at me for getting that tattoo because I wouldn't let her go with me. He did my parents 1st tattoos as well and recolored my Papa's tattoos he got in WWII. Family tradition and such.
For me as a professional tattoo artist who’s extremely sensitive when it comes to hygiene and safety during the process of tattooing it’s so frightening to watch theses stupid stuff going on. I’m grateful to you Lauren to do this work of explaining and enlightening to so many people 💕💖😊✌️

I only wish all tattoo artists were careful. Last tattoo I got the guy was taking sneaky puffs on his vape while tattooing the back of my leg. I thought it was somebody else in the studio until I caught him in the act

honestly it’s really nice that you’re supportive of people using fake skin. so many artists are so nasty to people even if they only use fake skin simply because they have a tattoo kit. If it isn’t touching anyones body it honestly is a great hobby and it’s nice seeing an artist finally say that it can be a hobby for anyone.
Amazon doesn't sell home botox or liposuction kits, so I don't see why they should sell home tattoo kits either.

Well real tattoo artist also buy equipment and supplies on Amazon too so it wouldn't make sense to not sell

We’re just gonna brush right over the “I bought two new needles BUT HAVENT NEEDED TO USE THEM”- have they been reusing a needle?!?!?!
This reminds me of a girl from my high school. Her boyfriend somehow got a tattoo machine (this was before Amazon) and just used her entire back and arms to practice. We were all horrified and trying to put an end to it but she kept insisting she liked the tattoos. They were all horribly done both in design and technique. People who haven't been trained don't realize design is only half of the tattoo. The other half is tattooing correctly so that you don't mess up the skin more than you need to and cause bad scar tissue, slow healing, raised lines ect.

I wanted to add that I got a home job tattoo from a friend. I thought the only danger was infection and I trusted this person and everything was as clean as a home job could be. I have since learned otherwise! My tattoos have gone very weird, and it turns out I was allergic to the ink that was used AND they would have damaged under the skin.
I will always and forever recommend NOT doing a tattoo by yourself or getting your mate to do it!
As a tattoo artist: seeing all the images and reviews: it was painful to watch, no one starts knowing it all, that's why we always say how important it is to actually learn from professionals and start out as an apprentice, i hope those infected ones got treated properly. I'm not even gonna dive on how those cheapy machines and fonts are just cash thrown out of the window.
I think it's very kind that you don't just scream "IDIOT!" at every review. That shows a lot of restraint! 😂

sorry my English, I'm from Argentina... The biggest difference between professional and non-professional products: The quality of non-professional products often makes work more difficult. Pedals and cables stop working quickly, sources don't work continuously. We don't know where the ink comes from, it's dangerous. oh and the needles are dull.
As a tattoo apprentice this is very scary to see. We just had a seminar on blood born pathogens and the amount of blood particles on these people bedding and floor now is scary, not to mention all the bacteria getting in their tattoo😳
It still baffles me how something that is done so intimately to the skin and so cautiously is allowed to be cheapened like this. Good, safe work isn't cheap and cheap work isn't good and safe.

When I was 15 and unaware of the seriousness of tattooing I bought a kit off Amazon for $30 and tattooed myself and my friends. Looking back at just how reckless I was I’m shocked no one got infections from my blatant idiocy. I’m glad you’re spreading awareness for how dangerous these machines can be I’m only upset I didn’t see these videos 8 years ago because it would have saved my friends and I from the awful tattoos that we have to live with now.

So I did buy a kit like one of these and it’s been great for my oranges 😂 I still go and pay artists for my tattoos! Preaching to the choir here but why would you risk your own or someone else’s health?? 😰

I'll be honest.. even though by watching your videos I know all about needing proper safety for tattoos, seeing how cheap it was to buy a tattoo kit in the US made it very tempting for a second. So I think that plays a big part in self tattooing. If you don't know enough about the dangers, $80 tattoo kit that you can do any design with sounds great compared to $200 tattoo session.

About the first kit… it looks like a dub of the machine I use. It’s a FK iron Xion pen it costs about 600€ only for the pen….
It still baffles me that these can be bought, and that people do and think they are good...

it gets worse if you imagine that all that carpet might have been white at some point, or at least a lighter color. i cant stop thinking about it... i know they MAKE carpet in that color, but i just cannot get the gif of deep cleaning a smoker's rug out of my head when i see them.. i feel like i can smell those pictures
I tattoo myself as a form of harm reduction (instead of sh) but I dont post my equipment or any videos of me doing it because I'm not a tutorial, and I also do as much as I can with cleaning and everything, had no infections so far but I have been lucky, it can go terribly terribly wrong

Is it weird that I kind of want to get one of these just to see what a tattoo feels like? Because.. I don't actually have any tattoos (I want some) and knowing what it feels like when I'm relaxed and in a familiar place would likely ease my anxiety when going to get my first tattoo.

Tattoo studios are not very sterile to begin with, So doing it at home is just taking it to another level haha
I tattooed on oranges when I was young! I wish i continued practicing! Thinking of going back to it!
I teach high school students, and have tattoos, and I have seen students who did their own tattoos with these; it is PAINFUL TO SEE. Stick and poke might be dodgy, but at least you can only eff up so much in a given time frame. With these machines, though, they can do (aw)full arm pieces in an evening. 😮💨
Everyone deserves the chance to be stupid and get a bad tattoo, but at least a stick and poke would be small or a shop would by hygienic.

i have good ink but my skin reacts to all kinds of ink and they get itchy and raised... not sure how to fix it haha
This is surprisingly quite common, mine sometimes do it in the summer!! I don’t think there’s a fix for it though
This reminds me of this girl that used to be my friend in highschool she would give tattoos and piercings in the girls locker room. I kept telling them it’s a bad idea and it’s just not sterile and they stop being my friend after that.

The Tattoo machine reviews have always been my favorite videos to watch! I clicked on this so fast.
Just a random fact in most Eastern European countries you can't really get professional training unless you have friends that are tattoo artists so you basically have to learn everything by yourself... And that does include tattooing people because no one will want you in a studio if you can't properly set up your station and bed and don't know how to make good lines, stretch skin etc.
Even tho what you're saying is right I just wanted to point out that not everywhere in the world can you a certificate or a professional to help and guide you, here we kinda need to fight and do everything by ourselves in order to get good so when you go get a tattoo the artist most likely started their journey at home, most likely on a couch and a barely working machine , drunk, tattooing close friends and I don't think there's anything wrong with that, it's just the conditions we have to live in :D
the one that mentioned a client made me shudder, if someone was claiming to be a pro and got that machine and did that.. horrifying.
When a friend of mine was tattooing all our drinking buddies using a homemade rig, I totally declined being his next victim. LOL it all looked like poo. I could only imagine how dangerous these hobbyist tattoo artists are these days with cheap kit everywhere. I’m still gonna go to a professional tattoo artist in a clean hygenic shop. You have to live with this art.

Okay but now I am really tempted to get a set and some fake skin because my ADHD artist ass wants to try out every art form there is but I don't want to give myself or anyone else an infection because of a short hyperfixation ... it baffles me that people would practise on human skin right away though. Even I wouldn't do that, and I have poor impulse control.
(With all that said, these kits still shouldn't be sold on Amazon at all.)

Damn dawg. My regular artist really wanted to get me working in his studio but persisted that my practice would be on willing friends. Needless to say, I’m not a tattoo artist at the moment.
just a thought as well- If people are in America and they do have to go to hospital with an infected tattoo- the medical cost (to my knowledge ofAamerica's health care system) would probably vastly outweigh the cost of a small professionally done tattoo itself
Someone I know went to the hospital with an infection from a cat scratch and it was around $800

Those stigma needles in the first one I order those sometimes. Very good quality for the price. Comparable to the well known brands in the tattoo community (I'm a licensed apprentice btw!)
I was recently at a tattoo convention her in Connecticut and I won’t say his name but there was an ink master there. I spent time with him watching him tattoo and I didn’t recognize the machine he was using so I asked… his reply shocked me to my core he said it am was an Ambition machine off Amazon for 160 bucks!!! All I use was what he said!!! I had just spent 800 bucks on a fan kubin so I had to ask more questions…. It all came down too what you are tattooing and the expierence of the artist not so much the machine. He was a primary black and gray super soft style artist no need for big bold lines. The issues in these photos are not on Amazon but on the bums that are disrepectsting the learning process

I want to become a tattoo artist so while I slowly get a portfolio together, I bought a kit to try it out on fake skin. I would never tattoo myself or anyone else. I still get tattooed by professionals in the meantime

Oh no. I sat down to moisturize my resently touched up tatt and watch this. And started questioning everything! Ink, cleanliness ect.(even though I've had no issues) i can't really think about getting a tatt while working at a pet store like the lady who's ink fell out. Job duties include cleaning animal poo. Even if you don't do that it's in the air along with the dust of the store.. blehlele. (Used to work in the chain of stores)

I was also given a tattoo machine at a recent convention called mummy this machine is readily available on Amazon. I have used this machine and produced some very good tattoos I would show pics but I can’t in comments. The machine has a few flaws but it performs very well.
I just started the video but I have to chime in that "tattoos are for life unless you get them lazered off" , these amazon inks in worst case cannot be lazered off, this is due to the ink not being actual stantard tattoo ink but some wild garbage

The only tattoo I have is on my ankle, and I did it my self with probably one of the cheapest machines on Amazon. My lil sister bought it, but I think she got the ink and needles from a tattoo website.

My sister got a really bad infection after getting a very nice tattoo from a reputable and sterile place because it's an open wound. It was horrible and was years ago. We were just looking at the photos again s couple weeks ago and it was just unbelievable, after only has One little scar from it. She sought medical treatment quickly.
These kids are messing around with equipment from who knows where, that's made in conditions that are uncontrolled, And using ink that could have anything in it. The conditions they are tattooing in are unsanitary. These infections are almost guaranteed
