I’m convinced the war is to keep sister ray in Junon. The game made a point to tell us that the cannon can reach all the way to Wutai. If the cannon moves to Midgar, it will destroy Sephiroths barrier. If it stays in Junon, it can’t destroy the barrier.
Exactly what i thought! Sephiroth using Glenns appearance is just a vehicle to keep the barrier around the northern crater safe so Cloud and the party cant reach him inside. And it will also definitely add to Rufus story around the SOLDIER programm, him financing Avalance and so on. Thats atleast my take on it.
Yeah unfortunately in the English localisation they misspelled the anagram. The japanese sarruf name is literally an anagram for rufus :) I’m curious to see where rhis goes not upset at the rhought of glen being his dad at all . These devs love the game just as much if not more rhan us and its the og dev team for the most part so i have faith they will deliver ❤
My thoughts: Glenn defects and joins Wuati’s anti shinra forces, where he meets and works with Rufus. He might not have known it was Rufus at the time. Eventually he finds out Saruf is Rufus, and that he’s playing both sides. Rufus murders him before he can share what he knows. With Glenn dead, Sephiroth uses a black robe to impersonate Glenn, so he can instigate a war with Shinra. The purpose is still unclear but I don’t think Glenn is really alive, since we see that it’s not Glenn at all, but a random black robe, after Rufus shoots him in the end game cutscene.
I think what’s going on is probably a combination of the “War of Beasts” theory Sleepezi attributed to Loveless and Jenova’s history of manipulating not just individuals but whole societies into war. This probably has something to do so with what Sephiroth describes as “feeding the planet with suffering, hopelessness, despair” etc. I think the worse things get on the planet the greater his ability to corrupt the lifestream. Sort of a “Reverse spirit bomb” from DBZ. Greatly needed video, thanks for the upload Sector!!
Thanks for watching! And yeah, Sephiroths doing all the moves we'd expect of him/Jenova but just applying them across a wider area it seems. Rather than just gunning for Cloud and Aerith, he's adding additional facets to his plan and yeah, i definitely feel like it could be to plump up the lifestream while also corrupting it further.
Normal people don’t know he from a mobile game or clouds dad or whatever he’s effectively jusr a new character like Kyrie or queens blood queen whatver
The end game for glenn imo is to restart the wutai shinra war so that the war can be used to fill the reunion. Strife and sorrow can be used to fill the planet and his negative lifestream to power sephiroth reunion. The damge done to the planet will weaken the planet further if combined with the weapons waging war against everyone. He wants negative emotions fueled in needless war. The journey to wutai with yuffie will be the climax of glenn imo.
The reunion already occurred though. Sephiroth did it at the end of the game in Rebirth when he merged all the worlds together. That was the "reunion". The Black Materia that he manifested effectively was the key that allowed him the ability to merge worlds.
The black materia was built by the Gi’s prayers. Perhaps like the white materia, its function is now to deliver a prayer to the planet. However the planet won’t listen unless the lifestream is sufficiently corrupted. Hence Sephiroth’s need for a war.
I actually feel a bit excited over the wutai situation. But only cause I hope this will finalize Yuffie character development and make her realize that there is more then just Wutais interest in all. And maybe even a scene with Goro to show that the ceasefire was neeeded cause he realized the sacrifices would not have been worth the revenge. Either way, I did not mind. The Glen Rufus scenes. I wish to know how Rufus will deal with this Glen was probably chosen cause Sepiroth knew that he killed by Rufus, to make Rufus less emotional intelligence
Yeah it feels like there could be more to it, it could just be plain and simple Sephy fucking with Rufus. But i dunno, just a gut feeling something else is going on there.
I'm assuming that at some point, Glenn will undergo S-cell injection... perhaps against his will... and that's what leads to his defection and challenging Sephiroth. But like all those injected with S-cells, he degrades into a black robe state, and Sephiroth simply uses Jenova's power to show him as healthy Glenn to Rufus.
I wonder if Sephiroth is trying to start the Wutai war so that the Junon canon is too busy defending against Wutai for Rufus to move it and fire it at the Northern Crater 🤔
I honestly believe that Glenn is one of president Shinra's sons. Rufus interaction with Glenn feels like theres deeper relationship between them. "Just like old times." People point out that Glenn looks like Cloud but to me he looks like President Shinra as Rufus himself says he has his mothers looks witch is why he dosnt look like his father. Theres feel like there is a more deeper reason why Sephiroth uses Glenns appearance to Rufus.
Honestly, both could be true. But I really hope they don't go in that direction. Making Cloud Rufus's nephew and President Shinra his grandfather would be a huge stretch and make the world seems smaller.
I know this sounds crazy lol but which other game required a massive loss of life such as what would happen in a terrible war? DOC. The black materia doesnt require dead people to activate, but Omega does. Who is the expert on that Omega event? Sephiroth's mother Lucrecia. I'm still curious as to how FS in EC will end because we know Rufus is funding Avalanche and getting cozy w Godo, but how does Sephiroth learn this? Was he still serving in their army knowing this? Unless he took that info from Fuhito in the Lifestream ? (why would he be since the ending of BC didn't happen this time ?) Elfe wields a nameless katana, does she get it from Sephiroth? Did she tell Sephiroth where the money was coming from? So many questions so much they could do with this. I think Rebirth stuck to the story far more than the third game will. I think the third will be just crazy w them including all the Avalanche and Wutai changes.
Yeah it almost feels like Sephiroth could be trying to all of the previous things at the same time. Spreading sorrow and hatred to taint the lifestream Summoning Meteor Starting a war to flood the lifestream possibly. He's definitely being a busy boy!
Well, he does have the eye color and the way his hair is slightly spiky and also how it is parted; so if we're gonna go by looks alone, I'd have suspicions of him being the protag's dad too. *(Have not played First Soldier so not sure if Glenn is mako-infused; i.e. does he have mako-eyes?)
@@CioChoux The 2000 gil reference is used to reinforce the idea that Glenn is Cloud's father as well. Cloud's dad apparently told Claudia something to the effect of "hey, as long as ya got 2000 gil in your wallet, you can go anywhere you like and overcome almost anything." In the First Soldier; Glenn is said to owe his teammate Matt 4k. Cloud's father left each Claudia and Cloud 2000 gil. Why do Mako eyes matter? I doubt its a trait that can be passed. If the question is centered on the rumor that SOLDIERS are sterile you need only remember Hojo suggesting that Aerith breed with members of SOLDIER as a means to create fresh Ancient/Cetra test subjects. If SOLIDERS can't reproduce, then someone needs to notify Hojo. I don't much care if he does or doesn't turn out to be Cloud's dad. Hes a dead ancillar character who will likely have zero interaction with Cloud. Hes either a red herring or footnote.
@@Otis-Spunks Upon reading more comments, yes, I came across the 4000/2000 gil thing, which, yes I agree, adds more to the scales tipping to favor Glenn as Cloud's pop. As for the mako-eyes, I did not mean to allude that it was an inheritable trait (besides, didn't Cloud gain his mako-eyes at the Shinra Manor after the Nibelheim reactor incident?). I was just wondering if, being the SOLDIER-prototype, they started mako-infusion with Glenn (and thus he should get the "eyes") or was experimentation with mako and people started after? (And then maybe Hojo moved on to experiment using the cells-lines/strains?)
@@CioChoux Glen looks absolutely nothing like Cloud apart from the fact that Glen is also blonde. However, If you said Rufus was Cloud's older brother - I would def think twice about it because they do look so much alike!
I'm not a fan but i agree it seems they may be setting him up to be Clouds father. Knowing Square they're probably going to research in advanced how people are taking this theory and adjust accordingly.
Honestly I don't know a lot about Glenn outside of lore vids like this but for some reason I find him absolutely adorable. For that alone I hope we see more of him, lol.
I love the game, I platinum'd everything about it, it's my GOTY, no - GREATEST OF ALL TIME. Currently my no. 1 game. But the Glenn scenes...ohhh. I hope the devs are cooking this hard cause I wont accept anything less than an A5 Wagyu medium rare.
If I had to guess, I'd say he's another of President's Shinra's sons, if anything other than just a guy who signed up to be an early Soldier. If he's related to Cloud, one way it could work is that there actually were some Soldier's created completely in the lab with false memories like Sephiroth says Cloud was in OG. One of the makonoids used could have been Cloud's father who got rounded up on Nibel. A true DNA lie.
That makes sense. I've always thought that President Shinra must be Cloud's father (making Rufus his half-brother), but chronologically it's more logical for Shinra to be Cloud's grandfather. Also, Cloud having a father who was a SOLDIER gives more context for Cloud wanting to join SOLDIER himself, other than a simple desire to impress Tifa. It's Luke Skywalker finding out his father was a Jedi all over again.
Sometimes I wondered about the Shinra dad theory but never could go with it because it just makes Cloud's mom so fucked up lol, and they indicate more like she wasn't just great but exceptional, so the simple story of Cloud's dad worked for me. Because if there was something bothering about it to Cloud, Jenova would have preyed on it. I actually never wanted Jenova DNA in Cloud prior to the stab and throw because I always saw that as the Lifestream choosing Cloud (like the force lol). Part of his decision was to impress Tifa, but also he actually did feel like he was a bad kid and that adults didn't like him for the bridge incident. Imagine we're looking at the wrong family lol Cloud's not related to Shinra, he's related to Scarlet. Jenova isn't real. Cloud's just crazy like his aunt lol
@@ETHomerin "adults didn't like him for the bridge incident." Cloud was a loner and someone who didn't fit in before the incident, though. The reason for that has to be more than him being a kid without a father. Cloud being some kind of experiment who was created in Shinra Manor (similar to Prompto in FFXV) would explain the other villagers' hostility towards him, Claudia's cover story about his father, and why Cloud is special and unique in some ways (hence why he was able to defeat Sephiroth multiple times, why he was the only one of Hojo's subjects to make it to the Reunion, maybe even Sephiroth's obsession with him.) Cloud being an average person doesn't add up, given what we know about him. The only person still living who might know about Cloud's history, aside from Hojo, is Vincent (he would have been present for the experiments that created Cloud, if that is what happened), so perhaps he'll spill the beans at some point. Maybe after Vincent reveals his backstory in Part Three he'll give us some insights into what makes Cloud "different."

Cool thing is ten years ago, I'd have agreed with you completely, not kidding, but over time my perspective on this changed! That original Seph kill is a mystery for us all lol For Claudia, I sort of feel like she is the opposite of Lucrecia. A big lie about his past would make her less likable as a character to me. The more likable she is the more it will hurt when we see Sephiroth kill her. I bet he flicks the blood in Cloud's face like he did with Aerith! We'll have to wait and see! Always love an FF convo
I didn't think Glenn was of any relation to Cloud, but I did kinda have a suspicion that he might actually be a Shinra. Like maybe Rufus' older brother or something, and Lodbrock is just a fake name perhaps. After catching up on your First Soldier videos though, I'm not so sure now.
I don’t think Glenn is a Sephiroth puppet, he has too much of his own personality. I think he was experimented on with Jenova cells at some point, and got killed by Rufus. He may have had the will similar to Sephiroth to not die in the lifestream but to stay intact and exert his will through black robes just like Sephiroth
Something definitely went down Between Rufus and Glen. And Sephiroth manipulating Rufus makes sense especially as Rufus has Geostigma in advent children.
Honestly, I called that it was Sephiroth in disguise the whole time. The way he was talking and the black robe just sort of gave it away. Plus, I knew there was no way he could be alive now, given what happened in the past. I’m quite curious to see what Sephiroth’s plan with the Shinra and Wutai war is now.
This isn't a sequel. There is no time travel involved. There is absolutely nothing to indicate this is the case. I don't know why people keep saying this.
As someone who recently beat the game (took 135 hours, btw) and absolutely LOVED it....I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed EVERYTHING about the game. Many of the weird changes were completely unnecessary. Pure misdirection because the director likes to troll us. Glenn Lodbrok was 10000% pointless. Tetsuya Nomura has this weird impulse to start throwing random dudes with beards in black robes into games to make the story more convoluted for no good reason. Sound familiar? lol. I honestly zoned out during all Glenn scenes. Didnt impact the story whatsoever. You could literally edit them out of the game and it would impact NOTHING.
While I like your theories I disagree with you 100% about Glenn being Cloud's dad. The fact that he has aligned himself with Sephiroth now shows where he went wrong and Ultimately when he abandoned Claudia and his son. The short story about cloud, the physical resemblances, the guilt he exhumes when dealing with younger sephiroth scream this. I don't think it's a red herring, but we have an entire compilation for ff7 and Glenn turning to be Cloud's dad is not going to ruin it. If anything it gives Cloud's mental breakdown a more accelerated spiral. He lost his mother, Zack, Aerith, and now learns the truth of his father running off to chase a selfish dream; or was there a more nefarious reason that was beyond his father's control? There are many stories out there about dead beat dads whom many could relate to. This gives Tifa an even bigger job of helping cloud put the pieces together. Sorry, I agree with 99% of everything but this is one thing we diverge on.
There's also the matter of Glenn having that 2000 gil saying that Claudia and Cloud also make reference to. It could be a match, but also Glenn could just be a sibling to Claudia. She never took the man's last name. Not definitive but I'm 50/50, Glenn has some similarities with Cloud, but Cloud favors his mother far more and spiky blonde hair, blue eyes, I mean it's a pretty generic hair and eye combo despite it being less common than brown hair + x eye color combo. Either way, Glenn seems to be killed off for good this time and Cloud likely will never meet him.

@@Sector6UK I understand, we all have our likes and dislikes and FF VII is something we all care deeply about or we all wouldn't be posting about it almost 28 years later. I always wanted to know who Cloud's dad was, the moment I saw Glenn in First Soldier Mobile Trailer, I just really got the strong sense that it was his father. There are many of us who have been thinking this for some time too. All the pieces so far do point in the direction of Cloud's father. I get that you want that mystery about Cloud, but come on, FF VII is the longest running compilation in the entire series, we have info about so many characters and to be honest we really still don't know much about Cloud's mom either. I think by getting this story, not only can we learn not only who Cloud's father is and his mother, but we can come to understand more about what brought his parents together and the details of what may have set Cloud on the path in life he would take.. Cloud is the protagonist of this story, I think the main character deserves probably the biggest deep dive. Also, Cloud getting impaled on a long masamune, surviving, and then picking Sephiroth up and flinging him against the wall of the reactor into the mako pool below is not a feat of a normal person. I never once thought Cloud had that kind of fortitude. I always knew there was something different about him only we just aren't privy to that information. With Glenn, this all comes full circle and everything makes a lot of sense. Cloud isn't batman or a super hero after all. Also I think they really want to give Cloud closure by the end of the sequel of some type, and him knowing the full truth about himself which would include his father. The only question is now, why did Glenn abandon them? Was it purposely meaning he's a dead pos dad who threw off his responsibility? Or was it something else that happened that forced him to leave? The Revelations of what Glenn could reveal to Cloud of what really happened may be very fascinating. On that note I was kind of hoping we got to see a flashback of Tifa's mom Thea too. Of course had both Cloud and Tifa grew up with both parents without any tragedy, they may have turned out to be pretty average normal children/adults. As a side note I like the rando models from the last part they had in the First Soldier mobile trailer so much that I wrote a fanfic that gives story background on those models who could still potentially be characters in the First Soldier story. You are entitled to your opinion. Just like many of us in here probably couldn't agree what toppings should go on a pizza. We are going to have disagreements from time to time and that's cool, we aren't going to agree on everything and I still respect your opinion and love your channel
Isn't it more of jenova rather than sephiroth? Remember, sephiroth said jenova can be people you hate, fear or love, which is probably why rufus sees Glenn.
Sephiroth has complete control over Jenova. She has no agency of her own because his will dominates hers. What he thinks she wants is actually just his own mental illness and narcissism.

I love Glenn! I truly think that Glenn is working with Sephiroth. I think yes Seph is puppeting him, or using his likeness, but I think Glenn actually gets to a point where he's on Seph's side especially given how he spends so much of the first soldier feeling bad for Seph.
There were obviously a few "expanded universe" characters who popped in but none felt like such an externality, so out of place, like Glenn who strutted in with this cliche black robe like he was yet another Xenohort clone to keep track of. Not a big fan of his inclusion.
i need to talk about glenn. i really really think he is in bound of an ascian and maybe sephiroth too. what is an ascian you maybe ask. its an grp of ppl that would to destroy worlds and set many chaos. in the final scene with rufus and glenn is maybe a really big hint to this. glenn is shottet two times by rufus. thats a thing ascian did not interesst they could contoll other bodies and go on with her work. the person rufus shot isnt glenn if you look closely. i personly think square needs to set strings between more final fantasy titles and in this way final fantasy 7 would be near to final fantasy 14 and fuck yeah its possible. It's fucking Jenova OBVIOUSLY. How is that not anybody's immediate go to. It's BLINDLY obvious. My mind boggles as to how this isn't instantly clear. I hadn't even played the mobile game and had very little knowledge on Glenn. It's just quite clearly Jenova. Remember this is a Sequel, Prequel and Rebith. Rufus has Geostigma in Advent children and is one of the only characters other than Aerith that l could see whispers straight off the bat from his introduction. It's clearly Jenova. Her ability is mimicry... As is the 'alive' Aerith Cloud perceives.
What percentage of people who played Rebirth actually played whatever game Glenn Lodbrok is from? They introduce a character, tell us nothing about him and expect us to care?
I'd put money on him being clouds dad, rufus is the other rebellion/wutai leader, sephiroth/ glenn said bout 2 sons meaning cloud and rufus.... see you all in 3 years for the results
Glenn was originally written for Rebirth. They made him the main character of First Soldier after. I don’t think Sephiroth will have any supernatural control over Glenn in Wutai as he is still very much alive and still very much a Shinra puppet until the events of Niebelheim. I think Sephiroth will kill Rosen; Glenn will turn against Shinra and him, and the forces of Shibra and Glenn’s Wutai resistance will meet on the battlefield. Sephiroth will try to save them as they are his only friends, an honourable fight between he and Glenn will ensue, and Rufus will get annoyed and just shoot him.
So in Rebirth he keeps absorbing what i believe is energy from the other worlds, and some of them may already contain meteor? I dunno it's something i need to look in to a bit more tbh, because it happens at the end of each game and there has to be a significance to it.
He isn't exactly new. He was in First Soldier and Ever Crisis before he was in Rebirth. While they are not canonical, it's false to state he's new to the series. He was highly involved with young Sephiroth.
I had no idea who the heck this guy was or why his being here was such a big deal. I'm only now finding out he's a character in a now defunct mobile game that I can't even play. What a massive blunder on SE's part.
Honestly, I think glenn might be on sephiroth's side willingly. Sephiroth and him are seemingly friends, both hate shinra and Sephiroth's new plan of creating a real promised land is probably appealing to many. As far as I understand it the promised land would be effectively parts of other realities stiched together to be perfect. Loki style sacred timeline Sephiroth edition. So whatever glenn wants is on the table. Lowkey think this will be his offer to cloud too in the third game. Join him and get zack and aerith back in the merged promise land or leave them dead.
Clouds father, nothing else to say besides the Glenn scenes do NOT DO THE CHARACTER JUSTICE, that’s not how Glenn acts, it is a poor imitation, also keep in mind this poor imitation of Glenn is like Ardyn from FF15 or something just a horrible imitation

@@Sector6UK yes, especially to discuss final thoughts on Aeriths death scene, what exactly is it that we are looking at, is it Aerith protecting Clouds psyche and the deflection of the blade didn’t happen, Or did cloud actually deflect the blade and created another manifestation world in the lifestream where Aerith lives akin to Zack making choices where worlds are born of each choice he makes, or could it also be Jenova manipulation? Maybe not all, but at a minimum the scene POST burial that we don’t see where Aerith is just staring into the distance next to cloud with the twisted music. So many things and interpretations ultimately I believe it boils down to 3: 1. Aerith lived in a born world and died in rebirths 2. Cloud is in denial and spirit Aerith is protecting his mind 3. Jenova is taking advantage of the situation to manipulate cloud

Spoilers below The main story of the book is Reeve has an interview with Denzel to understand his sad story. He lost his family from the plate fall, and the lady who took care of him during meteor. After that became a homeless street rat and betrayed by his friends; walked alone with geostigma until Cloud found him.

@@motionista You are thinking too hard. Watch ACC again and read the book. This has nothing to do with anything 'new'. The hint is a foreshadow of Denzel taking up the Buster Sword/ First Tsurugi. Not hard to miss

Glenn being Cloud's father might also explain why Cloud wanted to join SOLDIER in the first place. Supposedly, this decision stems from Cloud's admiration of Sephiroth and desire to prove himself to Tifa, but there may be more to it than that. This is a pretty common trope in storytelling, young men wanting to follow in the footsteps of their (dead or absentee) fathers. The most famous example I can think of is Luke Skywalker deciding to become a Jedi after finding out his father used to be one - and what do you know, Final Fantasy VII takes more than a few notes from Star Wars! Too many coincidences here to dismiss the theory out of hand.
I’ve been saying Glenn is Cloud’s uncle and Claudia’s brother. We have no clue about Claudia’s past and Claudia and Glenn do look a bit like siblings. As to why Claudia never mentioned him to Cloud my headcanon is that she got into a huge argument with her and Glenn’s grandma (who is mentioned in the First Soldier sections) and she basically was disowned by her family for some reason, which I think has to do with Cloud’s missing dad. Who knows. Too bad Cloud didn’t get to meet Glenn because it would have led to a nice interaction between uncle and nephew. But that’s just a headcanon.
There are too many coincidences, I know Sleepezi, BltzZ, Babyseal, and Max aren't a big fan of this but if this is what Nomura writes and depending how he writes it, they will forgive it. Glenn's interactions with Rosen and Young Sephiroth could potentially be a tell tale sign.

Wutai was supposed to have a bigger part in the original story along with Yuffie, but they ran out of money and had to cut it, the writer wanted to go back and give it the proper story.
But Glenn apparently arrives after according to Yuffie, kicks out the old government and sets up the new one post war. There's one or two answers we're missing to put the timeline of Glenn together properly i think, and it's frustrating lol

I’m convinced the war is to keep sister ray in Junon. The game made a point to tell us that the cannon can reach all the way to Wutai. If the cannon moves to Midgar, it will destroy Sephiroths barrier. If it stays in Junon, it can’t destroy the barrier.

Exactly what i thought! Sephiroth using Glenns appearance is just a vehicle to keep the barrier around the northern crater safe so Cloud and the party cant reach him inside. And it will also definitely add to Rufus story around the SOLDIER programm, him financing Avalance and so on. Thats atleast my take on it.

The japanese sarruf name is literally an anagram for rufus :) I’m curious to see where rhis goes not upset at the rhought of glen being his dad at all . These devs love the game just as much if not more rhan us and its the og dev team for the most part so i have faith they will deliver ❤

My thoughts: Glenn defects and joins Wuati’s anti shinra forces, where he meets and works with Rufus. He might not have known it was Rufus at the time. Eventually he finds out Saruf is Rufus, and that he’s playing both sides. Rufus murders him before he can share what he knows. With Glenn dead, Sephiroth uses a black robe to impersonate Glenn, so he can instigate a war with Shinra. The purpose is still unclear but I don’t think Glenn is really alive, since we see that it’s not Glenn at all, but a random black robe, after Rufus shoots him in the end game cutscene.
I think what’s going on is probably a combination of the “War of Beasts” theory Sleepezi attributed to Loveless and Jenova’s history of manipulating not just individuals but whole societies into war. This probably has something to do so with what Sephiroth describes as “feeding the planet with suffering, hopelessness, despair” etc. I think the worse things get on the planet the greater his ability to corrupt the lifestream. Sort of a “Reverse spirit bomb” from DBZ.

Rather than just gunning for Cloud and Aerith, he's adding additional facets to his plan and yeah, i definitely feel like it could be to plump up the lifestream while also corrupting it further.

The end game for glenn imo is to restart the wutai shinra war so that the war can be used to fill the reunion. Strife and sorrow can be used to fill the planet and his negative lifestream to power sephiroth reunion. The damge done to the planet will weaken the planet further if combined with the weapons waging war against everyone.
He wants negative emotions fueled in needless war. The journey to wutai with yuffie will be the climax of glenn imo.
It's like they're making Sephiroth like as if he were Ares, the God of War...
The reunion already occurred though. Sephiroth did it at the end of the game in Rebirth when he merged all the worlds together. That was the "reunion". The Black Materia that he manifested effectively was the key that allowed him the ability to merge worlds.
The black materia was built by the Gi’s prayers. Perhaps like the white materia, its function is now to deliver a prayer to the planet. However the planet won’t listen unless the lifestream is sufficiently corrupted. Hence Sephiroth’s need for a war.
I actually feel a bit excited over the wutai situation. But only cause I hope this will finalize Yuffie character development and make her realize that there is more then just Wutais interest in all. And maybe even a scene with Goro to show that the ceasefire was neeeded cause he realized the sacrifices would not have been worth the revenge.
Either way, I did not mind. The Glen Rufus scenes. I wish to know how Rufus will deal with this

If that wasn't just Sephiroth taking Glenn's form, then I'd wager to say that Glenn is a Remnant.
Yeah it feels like there could be more to it, it could just be plain and simple Sephy fucking with Rufus.
But i dunno, just a gut feeling something else is going on there.
I'm assuming that at some point, Glenn will undergo S-cell injection... perhaps against his will... and that's what leads to his defection and challenging Sephiroth. But like all those injected with S-cells, he degrades into a black robe state, and Sephiroth simply uses Jenova's power to show him as healthy Glenn to Rufus.

I honestly believe that Glenn is one of president Shinra's sons. Rufus interaction with Glenn feels like theres deeper relationship between them. "Just like old times." People point out that Glenn looks like Cloud but to me he looks like President Shinra as Rufus himself says he has his mothers looks witch is why he dosnt look like his father. Theres feel like there is a more deeper reason why Sephiroth uses Glenns appearance to Rufus.
Honestly, both could be true. But I really hope they don't go in that direction. Making Cloud Rufus's nephew and President Shinra his grandfather would be a huge stretch and make the world seems smaller.
I know this sounds crazy lol but which other game required a massive loss of life such as what would happen in a terrible war? DOC. The black materia doesnt require dead people to activate, but Omega does. Who is the expert on that Omega event? Sephiroth's mother Lucrecia. I'm still curious as to how FS in EC will end because we know Rufus is funding Avalanche and getting cozy w Godo, but how does Sephiroth learn this? Was he still serving in their army knowing this? Unless he took that info from Fuhito in the Lifestream ? (why would he be since the ending of BC didn't happen this time ?) Elfe wields a nameless katana, does she get it from Sephiroth? Did she tell Sephiroth where the money was coming from? So many questions so much they could do with this. I think Rebirth stuck to the story far more than the third game will. I think the third will be just crazy w them including all the Avalanche and Wutai changes.
Yeah it almost feels like Sephiroth could be trying to all of the previous things at the same time.

@@CioChoux The 2000 gil reference is used to reinforce the idea that Glenn is Cloud's father as well. Cloud's dad apparently told Claudia something to the effect of "hey, as long as ya got 2000 gil in your wallet, you can go anywhere you like and overcome almost anything." In the First Soldier; Glenn is said to owe his teammate Matt 4k. Cloud's father left each Claudia and Cloud 2000 gil.
Why do Mako eyes matter? I doubt its a trait that can be passed. If the question is centered on the rumor that SOLDIERS are sterile you need only remember Hojo suggesting that Aerith breed with members of SOLDIER as a means to create fresh Ancient/Cetra test subjects. If SOLIDERS can't reproduce, then someone needs to notify Hojo.
I don't much care if he does or doesn't turn out to be Cloud's dad. Hes a dead ancillar character who will likely have zero interaction with Cloud. Hes either a red herring or footnote.

As for the mako-eyes, I did not mean to allude that it was an inheritable trait (besides, didn't Cloud gain his mako-eyes at the Shinra Manor after the Nibelheim reactor incident?). I was just wondering if, being the SOLDIER-prototype, they started mako-infusion with Glenn (and thus he should get the "eyes") or was experimentation with mako and people started after? (And then maybe Hojo moved on to experiment using the cells-lines/strains?)
@@CioChoux Glen looks absolutely nothing like Cloud apart from the fact that Glen is also blonde. However, If you said Rufus was Cloud's older brother - I would def think twice about it because they do look so much alike!
I'm not a fan but i agree it seems they may be setting him up to be Clouds father. Knowing Square they're probably going to research in advanced how people are taking this theory and adjust accordingly.

If I had to guess, I'd say he's another of President's Shinra's sons, if anything other than just a guy who signed up to be an early Soldier. If he's related to Cloud, one way it could work is that there actually were some Soldier's created completely in the lab with false memories like Sephiroth says Cloud was in OG. One of the makonoids used could have been Cloud's father who got rounded up on Nibel. A true DNA lie.
That makes sense. I've always thought that President Shinra must be Cloud's father (making Rufus his half-brother), but chronologically it's more logical for Shinra to be Cloud's grandfather. Also, Cloud having a father who was a SOLDIER gives more context for Cloud wanting to join SOLDIER himself, other than a simple desire to impress Tifa. It's Luke Skywalker finding out his father was a Jedi all over again.
Sometimes I wondered about the Shinra dad theory but never could go with it because it just makes Cloud's mom so fucked up lol, and they indicate more like she wasn't just great but exceptional, so the simple story of Cloud's dad worked for me. Because if there was something bothering about it to Cloud, Jenova would have preyed on it. I actually never wanted Jenova DNA in Cloud prior to the stab and throw because I always saw that as the Lifestream choosing Cloud (like the force lol). Part of his decision was to impress Tifa, but also he actually did feel like he was a bad kid and that adults didn't like him for the bridge incident. Imagine we're looking at the wrong family lol Cloud's not related to Shinra, he's related to Scarlet. Jenova isn't real. Cloud's just crazy like his aunt lol

Cloud was a loner and someone who didn't fit in before the incident, though. The reason for that has to be more than him being a kid without a father. Cloud being some kind of experiment who was created in Shinra Manor (similar to Prompto in FFXV) would explain the other villagers' hostility towards him, Claudia's cover story about his father, and why Cloud is special and unique in some ways (hence why he was able to defeat Sephiroth multiple times, why he was the only one of Hojo's subjects to make it to the Reunion, maybe even Sephiroth's obsession with him.) Cloud being an average person doesn't add up, given what we know about him.
The only person still living who might know about Cloud's history, aside from Hojo, is Vincent (he would have been present for the experiments that created Cloud, if that is what happened), so perhaps he'll spill the beans at some point. Maybe after Vincent reveals his backstory in Part Three he'll give us some insights into what makes Cloud "different."

For Claudia, I sort of feel like she is the opposite of Lucrecia. A big lie about his past would make her less likable as a character to me. The more likable she is the more it will hurt when we see Sephiroth kill her. I bet he flicks the blood in Cloud's face like he did with Aerith!

I don’t think Glenn is a Sephiroth puppet, he has too much of his own personality. I think he was experimented on with Jenova cells at some point, and got killed by Rufus. He may have had the will similar to Sephiroth to not die in the lifestream but to stay intact and exert his will through black robes just like Sephiroth
Something definitely went down Between Rufus and Glen. And Sephiroth manipulating Rufus makes sense especially as Rufus has Geostigma in advent children.
Honestly, I called that it was Sephiroth in disguise the whole time. The way he was talking and the black robe just sort of gave it away. Plus, I knew there was no way he could be alive now, given what happened in the past. I’m quite curious to see what Sephiroth’s plan with the Shinra and Wutai war is now.

As someone who recently beat the game (took 135 hours, btw) and absolutely LOVED it....I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed EVERYTHING about the game. Many of the weird changes were completely unnecessary. Pure misdirection because the director likes to troll us. Glenn Lodbrok was 10000% pointless. Tetsuya Nomura has this weird impulse to start throwing random dudes with beards in black robes into games to make the story more convoluted for no good reason. Sound familiar? lol. I honestly zoned out during all Glenn scenes. Didnt impact the story whatsoever. You could literally edit them out of the game and it would impact NOTHING.
While I like your theories I disagree with you 100% about Glenn being Cloud's dad. The fact that he has aligned himself with Sephiroth now shows where he went wrong and Ultimately when he abandoned Claudia and his son. The short story about cloud, the physical resemblances, the guilt he exhumes when dealing with younger sephiroth scream this. I don't think it's a red herring, but we have an entire compilation for ff7 and Glenn turning to be Cloud's dad is not going to ruin it. If anything it gives Cloud's mental breakdown a more accelerated spiral. He lost his mother, Zack, Aerith, and now learns the truth of his father running off to chase a selfish dream; or was there a more nefarious reason that was beyond his father's control? There are many stories out there about dead beat dads whom many could relate to. This gives Tifa an even bigger job of helping cloud put the pieces together. Sorry, I agree with 99% of everything but this is one thing we diverge on.

There's also the matter of Glenn having that 2000 gil saying that Claudia and Cloud also make reference to. It could be a match, but also Glenn could just be a sibling to Claudia. She never took the man's last name. Not definitive but I'm 50/50, Glenn has some similarities with Cloud, but Cloud favors his mother far more and spiky blonde hair, blue eyes, I mean it's a pretty generic hair and eye combo despite it being less common than brown hair + x eye color combo. Either way, Glenn seems to be killed off for good this time and Cloud likely will never meet him.

@@Sector6UK I understand, we all have our likes and dislikes and FF VII is something we all care deeply about or we all wouldn't be posting about it almost 28 years later. I always wanted to know who Cloud's dad was, the moment I saw Glenn in First Soldier Mobile Trailer, I just really got the strong sense that it was his father. There are many of us who have been thinking this for some time too. All the pieces so far do point in the direction of Cloud's father. I get that you want that mystery about Cloud, but come on, FF VII is the longest running compilation in the entire series, we have info about so many characters and to be honest we really still don't know much about Cloud's mom either. I think by getting this story, not only can we learn not only who Cloud's father is and his mother, but we can come to understand more about what brought his parents together and the details of what may have set Cloud on the path in life he would take.. Cloud is the protagonist of this story, I think the main character deserves probably the biggest deep dive.
Also, Cloud getting impaled on a long masamune, surviving, and then picking Sephiroth up and flinging him against the wall of the reactor into the mako pool below is not a feat of a normal person. I never once thought Cloud had that kind of fortitude. I always knew there was something different about him only we just aren't privy to that information. With Glenn, this all comes full circle and everything makes a lot of sense. Cloud isn't batman or a super hero after all. Also I think they really want to give Cloud closure by the end of the sequel of some type, and him knowing the full truth about himself which would include his father. The only question is now, why did Glenn abandon them? Was it purposely meaning he's a dead pos dad who threw off his responsibility? Or was it something else that happened that forced him to leave? The Revelations of what Glenn could reveal to Cloud of what really happened may be very fascinating. On that note I was kind of hoping we got to see a flashback of Tifa's mom Thea too. Of course had both Cloud and Tifa grew up with both parents without any tragedy, they may have turned out to be pretty average normal children/adults.
As a side note I like the rando models from the last part they had in the First Soldier mobile trailer so much that I wrote a fanfic that gives story background on those models who could still potentially be characters in the First Soldier story.

Isn't it more of jenova rather than sephiroth? Remember, sephiroth said jenova can be people you hate, fear or love, which is probably why rufus sees Glenn.

I love Glenn! I truly think that Glenn is working with Sephiroth. I think yes Seph is puppeting him, or using his likeness, but I think Glenn actually gets to a point where he's on Seph's side especially given how he spends so much of the first soldier feeling bad for Seph.
There were obviously a few "expanded universe" characters who popped in but none felt like such an externality, so out of place, like Glenn who strutted in with this cliche black robe like he was yet another Xenohort clone to keep track of. Not a big fan of his inclusion.

It's fucking Jenova OBVIOUSLY. How is that not anybody's immediate go to. It's BLINDLY obvious. My mind boggles as to how this isn't instantly clear. I hadn't even played the mobile game and had very little knowledge on Glenn. It's just quite clearly Jenova. Remember this is a Sequel, Prequel and Rebith. Rufus has Geostigma in Advent children and is one of the only characters other than Aerith that l could see whispers straight off the bat from his introduction. It's clearly Jenova. Her ability is mimicry... As is the 'alive' Aerith Cloud perceives.

Glenn was originally written for Rebirth. They made him the main character of First Soldier after. I don’t think Sephiroth will have any supernatural control over Glenn in Wutai as he is still very much alive and still very much a Shinra puppet until the events of Niebelheim. I think Sephiroth will kill Rosen; Glenn will turn against Shinra and him, and the forces of Shibra and Glenn’s Wutai resistance will meet on the battlefield. Sephiroth will try to save them as they are his only friends, an honourable fight between he and Glenn will ensue, and Rufus will get annoyed and just shoot him.

So in Rebirth he keeps absorbing what i believe is energy from the other worlds, and some of them may already contain meteor? I dunno it's something i need to look in to a bit more tbh, because it happens at the end of each game and there has to be a significance to it.
He isn't exactly new.
He was in First Soldier and Ever Crisis before he was in Rebirth. While they are not canonical, it's false to state he's new to the series. He was highly involved with young Sephiroth.
The First Soldier story in Ever Crisis is canon and he's definitely a new character that has been added to the franchise in the last 2 years.
I had no idea who the heck this guy was or why his being here was such a big deal. I'm only now finding out he's a character in a now defunct mobile game that I can't even play. What a massive blunder on SE's part.
You can play it, The First Soldier has a story section in Ever Crisis.

Honestly, I think glenn might be on sephiroth's side willingly. Sephiroth and him are seemingly friends, both hate shinra and Sephiroth's new plan of creating a real promised land is probably appealing to many. As far as I understand it the promised land would be effectively parts of other realities stiched together to be perfect. Loki style sacred timeline Sephiroth edition. So whatever glenn wants is on the table. Lowkey think this will be his offer to cloud too in the third game. Join him and get zack and aerith back in the merged promise land or leave them dead.

@@Sector6UK yes, especially to discuss final thoughts on Aeriths death scene, what exactly is it that we are looking at, is it Aerith protecting Clouds psyche and the deflection of the blade didn’t happen, Or did cloud actually deflect the blade and created another manifestation world in the lifestream where Aerith lives akin to Zack making choices where worlds are born of each choice he makes, or could it also be Jenova manipulation? Maybe not all, but at a minimum the scene POST burial that we don’t see where Aerith is just staring into the distance next to cloud with the twisted music. So many things and interpretations ultimately I believe it boils down to 3:
1. Aerith lived in a born world and died in rebirths
2. Cloud is in denial and spirit Aerith is protecting his mind
3. Jenova is taking advantage of the situation to manipulate cloud

The main story of the book is Reeve has an interview with Denzel to understand his sad story. He lost his family from the plate fall, and the lady who took care of him during meteor. After that became a homeless street rat and betrayed by his friends; walked alone with geostigma until Cloud found him.

Sure looks like he could be, though. Spiky blond hair, blue eyes, similar build and facial structure. Glenn being Cloud's father might also explain why Cloud wanted to join SOLDIER in the first place. Supposedly, this decision stems from Cloud's admiration of Sephiroth and desire to prove himself to Tifa, but there may be more to it than that. This is a pretty common trope in storytelling, young men wanting to follow in the footsteps of their (dead or absentee) fathers. The most famous example I can think of is Luke Skywalker deciding to become a Jedi after finding out his father used to be one - and what do you know, Final Fantasy VII takes more than a few notes from Star Wars!
Too many coincidences here to dismiss the theory out of hand.
I’ve been saying Glenn is Cloud’s uncle and Claudia’s brother. We have no clue about Claudia’s past and Claudia and Glenn do look a bit like siblings. As to why Claudia never mentioned him to Cloud my headcanon is that she got into a huge argument with her and Glenn’s grandma (who is mentioned in the First Soldier sections) and she basically was disowned by her family for some reason, which I think has to do with Cloud’s missing dad. Who knows. Too bad Cloud didn’t get to meet Glenn because it would have led to a nice interaction between uncle and nephew. But that’s just a headcanon.

There are too many coincidences, I know Sleepezi, BltzZ, Babyseal, and Max aren't a big fan of this but if this is what Nomura writes and depending how he writes it, they will forgive it. Glenn's interactions with Rosen and Young Sephiroth could potentially be a tell tale sign.

Wutai was supposed to have a bigger part in the original story along with Yuffie, but they ran out of money and had to cut it, the writer wanted to go back and give it the proper story.
I think Glenn and his group joined wutai first then during the wutai war glenn fights sephiroth and rufus kills him
Cus sephiroth doesn't go crazy until after the war is over
But Glenn apparently arrives after according to Yuffie, kicks out the old government and sets up the new one post war.
There's one or two answers we're missing to put the timeline of Glenn together properly i think, and it's frustrating lol
