Thank you so much for this recipe! I got sick and tired of buying pickled ginger with aspartame and other chemicals in it. It’s not worth the health risk.
As a new pickled ginger eater I enjoyed your video very much. You thoroughly explained what I wanted to do. Thank you and I'm subscribing now so I don't miss your videos. ❤
But remember, you must use the young pale yellow with red tips. In Hawaii, it's only available in late summer and early Fall. The old ginger is tough and stringy.
Thank you for The Ginger Freez Information and the Vinegar ginger to store so Useful. Today I pickled Vegetables for the first time and Im doing ginger next! Subbed! Mahalo
Thanks so much for this recipe and your tips and tricks on ginger. I was lucky to purchase one pound of very tender young ginger last year. I wish I knew your recipe then. Instead, I sliced 1/2 of the roots and put in a jar with vodka to preserve. I also froze the rest whole and I simply grate the frozen root when I need some for a recipe. I hope I can get that tender ginger again and Ill make your recipe. Thank you! I enjoyed your photos from Cambodia and hope you can post some more!
@@HawaiisPickleLady Yes, I noticed that the flavor of the ginger wasn't affected, however the Vodka flavor changed a lot...not in a good way...sort of odd tasting. 🙃
Thank you for posting this video. I know what you mean about the jar lids rusting, but I didn't know how to avoid that! I was looking for a way to get pickled ginger that is less expensive that I can make at home.
I live in Cambodia and it's quite random that I came across your video in my search for pickled ginger. Saying hello from Siem Reap and trying your recipe today!! x
I love your channel! I have been able to use soooo many of the recipes!!! This one will be just one I can add to and maybe make some for my sister-in-law! Mahalo nui loa aunty!!!
Thank you but when it was quick and easy, I thought it meant I get to eat it tonight😂😂😂 i’m sitting here with albacore sashimi wishing I had pickled ginger💕💕💕
My method of preserving ginger is the laziest one there is. Just leave it sitting out on the counter in a little box where I keep my onions and garlic and let it sit there for months drying out and withering away into nothing, periodically cutting off little slices to flavor tea and soups and whatnot. Has never molded on me yet!
Best is the young ginger that comes out late summer and early fall. I tried it with mature ginger and it comes out pretty good. You can also shave it with a vegetable peeler to get it thin.
Ooooo, I wanna sip some spicy juice from the straining steps...with ice, vodka, and lemon...yum! Now you have me thinking of fermenting ginger to drink the ginger "ale" and cook with the salty fermented ginger. *drooling* This looks much better than the pink stuff from the store, it's more like the Ginger People brand, but yours is more colorfully yellow.
Unfortunately not to be found in Vegas. I'm going to Hawaii in November. If I can get some, I'll pickle it and bring it back if it's still there. Usually late summer and early Fall.
It's hard for her to cut it super thin because she's using a very thick chef knife. Instead try a very thin blade sharpened on only one side of the blade... just like the Japanese use for traditional sushi preparation.
I love, love, love 💕 💕💕 pickled ginger......
I love thinly sliced pickled ginger with sushi or rice
Thank you so much for this recipe! I got sick and tired of buying pickled ginger with aspartame and other chemicals in it. It’s not worth the health risk.

Much Aloha Aunty! I have your book but truly enjoy your videos🌺
You're lucky cause it's out of print. Waiting for tik Tok to finalize the book online.
Best preserved and pickled ginger video! Easy to follow and good instructions. Thank you!👍👍👍

Ginger can be preserved in a number of ways. Sometimes I put it in vinegar. Alcohol and vinegar don't really affect the taste.

Yummy!
Greetings from Belguim. Thanks for the recepies

Thank you for sharing your version of " Hawaii's Pickled Ginger" I love it and I'm gonna try it out 😋!
thank you auntie ! will make sum 2morrow :)
I've even tried the old yellow ginger and it works fine. You can just use a vegetable peeler if the mandolin isn't available.
I live in Cambodia and it's quite random that I came across your video in my search for pickled ginger. Saying hello from Siem Reap and trying your recipe today!! x
Welcome, I visited Cambodia with a friend and learned a lot of recipes.
Please let me know how it turns out:)

And it's so easy and delicious.
You could use a melon baller or just a spoon to portion out the ginger BEFORE you freeze it too! ....Or an ice cube tray...
I have been looking for a recipe 😋 I'm trying to make some.. thank you for your recipe.
DID She have an Amount Recipe & I missed it ????
thank you,xx
Oooo! Can't wait to make this! I use a chopstick to debubble!

Can't believe it's so easy but must be the right ginger. I hate the store kind because it has chemicals.
❤galing naman fluent sa English salamat po 🙏
English please.
Do you use white vinegar or rice vinegar? Great video!
Always use white because it's cheaper and I can't tell the difference.
I hope you enjoyed yourself in SF 🫶🏽
Keep that ginger water for tea just add lemon, sugar, or honey to it and drink hot or cold over ice
Tomorrow I wanna to make it😊😊😊

Pink is from food coloring and they also put chemicals. Mine is totally natural.
The ingredient measures, from her website:
1 lb young ginger with reddish tinted shoots and skin
1 c vinegar
1 c sugar
1 T Hawaiian or rock salt
Can you preserve ginger in apple cider vinegar vs regular white vinegar?
yes.
You can find fresh young ginger in Fresno, CA. I had came across them with local farmers.
Unfortunately not to be found in Vegas. I'm going to Hawaii in November. If I can get some, I'll pickle it and bring it back if it's still there. Usually late summer and early Fall.
Hi - Very useful information. Why does the store-bought pickled ginger pink? Is it just food coloring or something else?
Food coloring.
Can you use palm sugar instead of regular white sugar?
Never tried it, but I'm sure it'll work.
Which vinegar do you use? White, rice, or apple cider vinegar?
Always white, to me no difference in taste and cheaper.
Is it possible to make it without sugar? Or less?
Yes.
@@HawaiisPickleLady thank you! 🙏🏽
Hi mam, how are you,in our Village we don't have vinegar, can i use lemon juice instead of vinegar?
Try it.
Okay mam, thank you
sushi ginger is expensive! much more better to make yours!!! Thank you!!!!
Yes, and has a long shelf life and no chemicals.
How much sugar and vinegar in cups please 😊
Recipe on my website under Pickles.
any measurements i missed or do i just wing it?
The measurements are on my website under pickles at Https://HawaiisPickleLady.com
i pickled tartaglia went well
I sliced the ginger on a deli slicer. I was able to get large ginger, otherwise I wouldn't have done that.
I can't find the ratio vinegar / sugar / salt ... Also do you sterilize the jar before?
Go to my website, hawaiispicklelady.com under Pickles. I don't sterilize the jar, no problem in the fridge.
very nice and clear talking lady
Thanks.
😊
can you use Honey instead of sugar ?
I've never tried but experiment.

HANK YOU SO MUCH
Do you know that you can use the regular ginger. Tried it and it came out very good. I just used a regular peeler.
Do you have a recipe for garlic pickles?
See my website, hawaiispicklelady.com, under Pickles.
That's a Cutco chef's knife!
Yes, those are my favorite and best knives. Worth the investment. I also have their cookware. It's heavy and rice doesn't stick.
Arent these huge amounts of sugar bad for your health?
You look pretty healthy though 😅
Use your judgment. Don't make it if it bothers you.
I'm like everyone else. I eat but don't over do it.
People don't watch such videos to watch you traveling, or pictures that are irrelevant. They come here to learn how to make pickled ginger.
its too much sugar
Nothing is cast in stone, it's your recipe, change according to your taste.
I DON"T HAVE A RECIPE OF AMOUNTS..... Great video....BUT ARE U KIDDING ???? C'Mon !!!
All my recipes are on my website, hawaiispicklelady.com. Look under Pickles. I'm not kidding.
I give up. Going to another channel. Don't have time to waste.
