This song is done in a country reggae beat. It showcases the higher & lower ranges of both Tim Foust & Avi Kaplan. That last note of Tim is impressive with how low he goes, but more impressive is how long he sustains the note. On the "Sing Off Show" that Home Free won in 2013 Tim goes even lower on this song "Ring Of Fire" & he impressed the judges so much that they gave them a standing ovation. And Adam Rupp once again was stellar in his vocal percussion.
Thank you for a great reaction, love the look on yall's faces when Tim hit the higher notes then the deep one at the end. This song was originally written by Johnny's wife, June Carter Cash, about the beginnings of their relationship, it's a lovely song and Home Free did an awesome job.
Tim said in a interview that he wrote that in CA when his boss insisted that he write a Country style song, which he didn’t want to do. He downed a bottle of JD that night and came up with Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget. He didn’t say what his then boss thought about it.😂
Yes, Home Free is so versatile. They’re all such good singers. They all take the lead depending on the song. Tim was doing that amazing low note at the end. He has a 5 octave range so he can sing super low and then sing up with the tenors. Helplessly Hoping, Brothers in Arms, Country Roads, So Long Dixie. They also just did a song with Texas Hill, it has instruments, really cool. Good reaction you two!
That last note, blowsout speakers at the Home Free concerts....I get to see them for a 3rd time on April 19th in Ft Meters, FL....at a sold out concert.....next try something with Chance in the lead...Like their cover of Finally Free....I really think you'd like it
They sang this when they won the Sing Off, but then they didn't have Adam Chance to hold down the bass while Tim was lead. Avi gives them that extra bass.
I have come to really enjoy HOME FREE! I have listened to them for over 2 years now and have NEVER been disappointed. Here are a few other covers to react too: How Great Thou Art; Crazy (Patsy Cline cover); Mayday (Cam cover); Snow Globe (Tim Foust wrote); End of the Road (Boyz to Men cover); plus many more. You are doing a great of reacting - NICE JOB!
Vocal only, no (auto-tune) crap necessary. Pure, amazing, true talent. Thanks for choosing to react to them, maybe you two will become 'Home-fries' like quite a number of others.
Love this group. I have not been disappointed yet. And I just started about five months ago and I listen to 3 to 5 songs a day. Hope you really enjoyed it. Thank you.
Great song , great rendition and great reaction! Awesome word painting when the band takes over the chorus on verse two and take the notes wonderfully high on “the flames went higher!” My favorite moment is when Avi puts on the black hat at the end (honoring the man in Black) while the band sings the only echo of that signature trumpet part from the original. They pay tribute to Johnny’s greatness while making the song totally theirs. The reggae beat is inspired!
Add Geoff Castellucci from VoicePlay (OOGIE BOOGIE'S SONG is a favorite) and you get the trifecta of low octaves. BTW, Tim Foust has a five octave range. Also: Chris Rupp, along with his brother Adam, started Home Free. Chris left the group sometime after this video and was replaced by Adam Chance, who you see in 'Man of Constant Sorrow'.
Great one guys! This is the song that pretty much ed iced it for them for winning the sing off competition. It is quite a rabbit hole. Many different types of songs and different leads.
Avi Kaplan is a classically/operatically trained basso profundo. greatest bass out there in my opinion. He left PTX in 2017 and is now a solo artist. Here is something of his from a studio session in 2022. Avi Kaplan When I'm a Fool (Kaplan) ruclips.net/video/LE24UTH3pmQ/видео.html
5:06 Home Free decides who takes lead by who sounds the best. They listen to each other singing and decide which version which is great that there’s no ego in the group. Ego usually kills a group.
Home Free comes from country roots but their versatility is astounding. You really can't go wrong with anything they create. If you'd like to see a fun one which gets back to their country roots check out their cover of Blake Shelton's "Hillbilly Bone" or their cover of John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads" (more of a folk tune), for something deep their cover of John Mayer's "In The Blood" and for a laugh their "Butts Remix".
This song was co written by June Carter Cash, Johnny Cash future wife at the time. It was about her relationship with Johnny Cash. TIM the bass singer of Home Free has a 5 octave range
Love Home Free AND Avi in this song. Another group you might like is VoicePlay. They are known as the "Theater Kids of Acappella" because many of their videos are like little movies. Hoist The Colors from Pirates of the Caribbean is a fun one to start. Dragonborn is awesome too. For something that is less production and more pure talent showcase, their cover of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters is mind boggling.
So glad you're beginning to learn about Home Free. I won't mention all of the ways to enjoy these fabulous singers. I'll just they they consistantly surprise and delight we Home Fries. They all have solo work too. They are busy gents!
There are a ton of songs from these guys. All About That Bass Elvira w/the Oak Ridge Boys American Pie w/Don MacLean Never Gonna Give You Up And for a bit if fun - The Butts Remix
Johnny Cash's wife (not at the time)June Carter wrote this song after meeting him Johnny. They were both married to other people at the time. So they couldn't be together. Check out Don McClean singing American pie with Home Free. For the 50th anniversary of the song
Tim Foust has a vocal range of a little over 5 octaves which is almost unheard of ..tim is working on some solo stuff..Tim is working on a doo-wop album.. Austin Brown has some solo stuff here on youtube...i'm not sure what Adam , Chance, and Rob are working on ..i think they are spending time with their families during the off time
"Ring of Fire" is a song made popular by Johnny Cash when it appeared on his 1963 album Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash. Written by Cash's eventual second wife June Carter Cash and Merle Kilgore, it was originally recorded as "(Love's) Ring of Fire" by June's sister Anita Carter on her 1963 album Folk Songs Old and New.
Fall down the Home Free rabbit hole! You can't run out of content - they have over 150 videos, not counting the live videos, the ones on their individual channels, the videos of songs that various members have done with others, their "From the Vault" & "Home Away From Home" series and the side project "Sweet & Low Music Co." It's a great trip!
Home free is awesome now check out my fav accapella group voice play , start with the song ,my mother told me, it's a viking hymn Geoff castelluchi the best bass in music also does solo work start with ,big bad John , cover enjoy
Great reaction. Now the song they were showing at the end, Tim the bass singer wrote it. Campagne taste, on a Beer budget, is a fun song. Avi slips in on the song, They did both on the same day.
Please react to voiceplay too It s an another a capella group but more theatrical They are friend with home free because they are in the same season of sing off I recommend you voiceplay Hoist the colors please please
And now you have seen what song made me a FULL BLOWN Home Fry. And nYES, they are VERY versatile. Please, I think you will be happy you did this, but please. Do some older HOME FREE stuff and AFTER you are used to who can do what and how they normally sound, then start with the newer stuff. Helplessly Hoping, And AFTER that, then you will want to see some newer stuff. Like Aust and Rob doing Opera and some of Times Solo stiff. But, IMO, please do some older HOME FREE first. LIKE, HOME FREE and My Church. Just my opinion. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I want to recommend an amazing talent on RUclips. Mia Morris. She's a 17-year-old singer, songwriter and musician. She writes her owns songs and plays all the instruments. The first song I'm recommending is What Made You Famous. Please do a reaction video to that if possible.
I know Johnny Cash's version is "classic" but I much prefer Home Free's "upgrade"--more emotion and much warmer harmonies. And in my opinion, although the crackling bonfire video is great, HF's version with Avi is not even their best. I still prefer the version our HF fellas sang for their third performance on the 4th season of The Sing Off. It just showcases their strengths even better than this one--in my humble opinion. ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ (Avi Kaplan has been mentored in bass excellence by Home Free's Tim Foust--this is a great testament to HF's humility to showcase him like this.)
Mate new song of SIDHU MOOSEWALA is out and that is "Mera Na" SIDHU MOOSEWALA ft. BRUNA BOY and mate I am tellin' you a masterpiece had been created and it will be remembered by all😥❤ LEGENDS NEVER DIE 💙
@@barsandbarbells2022 Have you watched 👀 songs of Sidhu Moosewala before couz in his song there always a different vibes and trust me listen to his song with subtitles couz that will hit hard on you believe that 😳❤
You have not heard the high or low end of Tim Foust. He is not quite human in his range. To get a better view you should react to his take on "Will you still love me tomorrow" or Won't you stay" and "Misty Mountains"
Ring of Fire in a more modern, somewhat reggea-like version, but still respecting the original. More than 4 years ago this was the first video I saw/heard from Home Free. I got there because I was listening to Pentatonix at the time and Avi was my favorite. Immediately there was something that drew me to Home Free. From then on I followed them and after I think 2 videos I was a real Home Fry. I hardly follow PTX anymore. Avi still does, because Avi Kaplan and Home Free let me feel music and not just hear it. Their great harmonies, the unbelievably good beatboxing/vocal percussion and of course that incredible deep bass that makes the ground vibrate and your speakers explode. Personally, I thought Avi fit better with Home Free than with PTX. But that's my opinion 😊
Home Free's cover of one of my favorite comedy songs "Mississippi Squirrel Revival " just came out not long ago, but watch Ray Stevens' official video first. Mr. Stevens doesn't block reactions to his videos.
HF also covered the Dire Straits classic, "BROTHERS IN ARMS" ruclips.net/video/_ChD2WjD2tY/видео.html and did an amazing job with it. Definitely worth a listen!

They did! Thanks for stopping by!
The song that comes on in the outro is Champagne Taste On A Beer Budget it's a lot of fun and Avi makes a little cameo appearance in it as well 😊

I'm so jealous. I've only seen them once, but it was in Mankato and it was fabulous. Have a great time.
This is a great version of this song. I believe Johnny Cash would be proud. CK out Brother a great video.
They sang this when they won the Sing Off, but then they didn't have Adam Chance to hold down the bass while Tim was lead. Avi gives them that extra bass.
The ironic thing is that Adam Chance and Chris Rupp have virtually identical nominal ranges. They simply prefer different ends of that range.
Home Free’s version of Folsom Prison Blues is also 🔥
Thank you for reacting to a great group of guys. They are the best
I have come to really enjoy HOME FREE! I have listened to them for over 2 years now and have NEVER been disappointed. Great reaction guys! I knew you would enjoy it. I saw Home Free live last fall and they are phenomenal.
Did ya catch Avi donning a western hat when Tim went to the basement?
Everyone ignores that. To me it was a gesture of respect. But hey,…
Vocal only, no (auto-tune) crap necessary. Pure, amazing, true talent. Thanks for choosing to react to them, maybe you two will become 'Home-fries' like quite a number of others.
They killed this. Johnny Cash would so incredibly proud. Love your reactions!

Adam Rupp is one of the best beatboxers in my opinion. And bass in the end was Tim Foust
Home Free us a world of talent. Tim has so much more to show besides leaving ash.
and yes that was tim with his dragon breath voice on the end :D
Loved the reaction 🙂
