You did a reaction to Misty Mountains by Peter Hollens. Well, he did a version (and a video) of that song with Tim Foust, the bass singer of Home Free, that is an absolute must!
It was fun to see this reaction. The men of Home Free are: Austin Brown - high tenor Rob Lundquist - tenor, has beard Chris Rupp - baritone, often wears a cowboy hat, brother to Adam, founder of group Tim Foust - bass Adam Rupp - beatboxer, occasionally sings baritone, brother of Chris, founder of group In 2016, Chris left the group and a new baritone Adam Chance (goes by Chance to avoid confusion with Adam Rupp) was added. Chance can also sing bass which allows them more vocal freedom when Tim sings lead. When they decide to do a song, whether a cover or original, they have a sing off between themselves to come up with a lead singer. So some songs have more than one lead. They are known for great harmonics and humor especially during live shows. If something goes wrong on stage they are known to make fun of it and just keep the audience (and themselves) entertained. They have both serious and comedic songs and videos. Fans are referred to as Home Fries, a name created by Ben Folds when Hone Free was on the Sing-Off.
You missed the memo that since this video Chris went solo and was replaced (sorry, bad with names, was in another Sing Off group and maybe has the same name as another Home Free member).
Splendid It’s in what I wrote. Chris was replaced by Adam Chance who goes by Chance so as not to cause confusion with Adam Rupp the beatboxer. Chris left in 2016.
They actually did do it live...without Avi. They won the Sing Off, and one of the performances was Ring of Fire...in which Tim actually went lower on that last note!

All of Home Free’s music is fantastic! Just make sure you really know the band before you listen to “Mayday”. Also check out their stuff from after 2016 since they had a lineup change. Chris Rupp left the group and Adam Chance took his place. A great example is their version of “Auld lang syne”.
I’m a bit late to this reaction. However, I must say… This has been my favorite reaction by you so far. To see the look of awe on your face. Priceless. ❤
Really enjoyed the reaction and commentary. Looking forward to more Home Free reactions. About Home Free’s bass, Tim Foust, he actually started as a tenor and he’s found that by continuing to work on keeping his tenor range he’s been able to extend his bass range as well.
What a fantastic reaction to this song, and Tim Foust's earth-shaking bass! Please continue falling through the Home Free rabbit hole, How Great Thou Art and Auld Lang Syne are perfect displays of their buttery smooth harmonies!
Thank you for reacting to Home Free! 🎶😁🎵 This group has gotten me through the pandemic. You have barely scratched the surface of what these guys are capable of. There is so much more and you will never walk away not being uplifted. They love what they do and the energy delivered is well received❗️Loved your reaction & exclamations. 😁
“Great balls of Barry White”! You’re so freaking adorable! This is when Chris was part of the group. Now we have Adam Chance and he is a baritone and the sound is much more rounded now!
Prior to joining Pentatonix, Avi was studying opera and is a basso profundo with an extended high range. However, I think Tim Foust has an even more extended range to the high end.
Home Free's bass is Tim Foust who has a 5 octave range. He has said his voice didn't change until he was about 17 and he is now 39. Head down the rabbit hole that is Home Free and please react to "Mayday" where Tim will surprise you when he leads off that song. Tim has always said "Work on your high range and the low end will take care of itself". Tim is also a songwriter and has a solo album out titled "The Best That I Can Do". Welcome to the land of the Home Fries! You have a lot of work ahead of you.
His philosophy is similar to mine. I tend to believe that the low end will take care of itself, but I think that's easier for people who already have pretty low voices to begin with.
Welcome to home free!! They have their own channel on RUclips with a ton of videos. Tim is the bass. Adam Rupp is the beatboxer. He has won world competitions in beatboxing. Check out man of constant sorrow or in the blood or can't fight the feeling
Love the response, they are my favourite group and great guys, see them every time they come to Canada near me. Better in person. All sounds are made with the human voice. You should check out mayday now, the incredible bass you heard at the end, Tim Foust shows his range a little :). Subscribed.
You said Basso Profondo with the Italian pronunciation and I'm veeeery happy! 😁🇮🇹 If you like Avi Kaplan's voice let me suggest you some of his originals: "Change on The Rise" - "It Knows Me" - "Chains" + the cover of "Lean On Me". Home Free's bass is Tim Foust and beatboxer Adam Rupp. All of these gentlemen are fantastic!
Great reaction.. you give such good info, too! Home Free's bass is Tim Foust.. he has a 5 octave range. We have seen them live 4 times now, and each time I find myself with my jaw dropped open for the entire first song.. they are so talented! They are just as good, if not better when you actually see them live.. the energy in the crowd is truly palpable. The last time we saw them was way down in NC where our daughter lives..She and her friend were in the row in front of us and i leaned forward to whisper something to her and almost landed in her lap when Tims bass echoed thru the venue. I have seen instances of him causing the plaster to fall from the ceiling and his bass notes breaking sound systems.. and he seems so nice, too! Thanks so much for your videos! Philly fry here..
NOTE = that at the end TIM FOUST - Bass at it's best ..... is so low, so clean, so bold and smooth EVEN ANOTHER GREAT BASS SINGER (Avi Kaplan) JUST SMILES AS HE SINGS BACKGROUND WHILE EYING TIM'S FINAL LOW NOTE ! Home Free !!!!!!
This is a reaction almost a year after this was posted so I'm sure you know by now that Home Free has five tenors and at least two basses. They are a deeply talented group. Thanks for the informative review.
Tim Foust (Home Free's bass) has a 5 octave range - "Snow Globe" which he wrote, really shows it off. Home Free also has an outstanding version of "When A Man Loves A Woman" and the video "Mayday (Live") is amazing. Loved your reaction to the two basses. The beatboxer is Adam Rupp - he and his brother Chris (in the black cowboy hat) founded the band.
So glad you chose this one for your wonderful, as always, reaction :) Loved every minute of it, especially the moment you ask "where is the drumset" heh
Was nice to hear someone mention Maestro Terfel. The man is one of my musical heroes (as are Hvorostovsky, Pape, Moll, Ramey, and the Russian Oktavist; Vlad Miller). Loved your reaction at Tim Foust hitting that G1 at the end!
The beatboxer is Adam Rupp you need to watch Adam Rupp drum solo..he will make you a believer! Loved the harmonies and beatboxing! Avi and Tim were amazing! Notice how Tim held that last low note for about 10 seconds? Great reaction 🎉 I love Home Free😊
Loved your reaction. It’s ok to have never heard of them. I just discovered them this year too. They are tremendous. Tim Foust is the incredible bass you were hearing at the end. He hit a G1 and held it for 13 seconds I believe. On their live version of this song on the Sing Off show Tim hit a F1. Their harmonies are superb in everything they do. How Great Thou Art, Auld Lang Syne, Helplessly Hoping are all incredible. But they do a lot of country and I’m not even a great fan of country but I love them. I love Country Roads, the John Denver cover, it’s beautiful. Enjoy!
You hit the nail on the head with "Basso Profundo". Before being recruited into Pentatonix when he was about 21, Avi was an opera major at Mt. San Antonio College in CA (Theory minor) and specifically trained as a Basso Profundo. Since leaving PTX, as others have said, he's done a lot of solo work, almost all of which is original. Here's a link to him performing his original "Chains", a piece that will show his range, released earlier this year: ruclips.net/video/_Ki0WeSRxvE/видео.html
There is really only one bass in the group typically, sort of. Tim is their bass and Avi is just standing in as a guest here. Tim, Home Free’s bass is known to go down as low as A0. He’s down to a G1 on this. Their beat boxer, Adam, is amazing (check out Adam Rupp drum solo on RUclips). Rounding out is Austin (tenor 1), Rob (tenor 2) and Chance (baritone/bass). Chance took over for Chris who’s seen in this video.
What a fun reaction!!! Loved it!! They are all so good individually as well as their tight tight tight harmony!! Hope you do more! For absolute earcandy, & to really appreciate their skill, check out their "Helplessly Hoping". Thx!!

I see that you have several reactions to Home Free but no playlist for them. I would love to see more reactions to their music and a playlist devoted to your trip down the Home Free "rabbit hole." Thanks for your great reaction to this group.
Home Free created this rendition for a competition performance on The Sing Off, so you can see their live version there, absent Avi of course. Tim's final low note had the judges out of their chairs.
I just looked back at your list of reaction videos and I see no Pentatonix. You really should find something of their's to react to. I would recommend, Hallelujah or Bohemian Rhapsody, which has Avi Kaplan, the original bass, and Sound of Silence, which has their new bass, Matt Sallee, who took over for Avi, when he left for personal reasons.
I really think some of their original work is fantastic with Avi - like "Love Again" or "Sing" - but my favorites of their newer stuff is "Come Along" or "Deep End"

I just realized that if I ever wanted to demolish my house, these guys can do it with their voices. The brick and mortar would vibrate until all is gone.
It is so fricking awesome!!!
Avi IS a Bass Profundo - Professionally trained. 😊
All of Home Free’s music is fantastic! Just make sure you really know the band before you listen to “Mayday”. Also check out their stuff from after 2016 since they had a lineup change. Chris Rupp left the group and Adam Chance took his place. A great example is their version of “Auld lang syne”.
We want more Home Free reactions from you. Get ready to be bombarded with requests from the Home Fries
Love Avi Kaplan. He's solo now and is absolutely amazing. Beautiful original work, beautiful voice!!
Please check him out.
,Check out their version of Ring of Fire when they won the show SING OFF, TIm Foust is the bass Adam Rupp is the beat box
I’m a bit late to this reaction. However, I must say… This has been my favorite reaction by you so far. To see the look of awe on your face. Priceless. ❤
Of a dozen or so "Reaction" videos by musicians nad vocal coaches, these comments were the most detailed and insightful across the waterfront.
Really enjoyed the reaction and commentary. Looking forward to more Home Free reactions.
About Home Free’s bass, Tim Foust, he actually started as a tenor and he’s found that by continuing to work on keeping his tenor range he’s been able to extend his bass range as well.
I have seen them twice in concert live --they are awesome
What a fantastic reaction to this song, and Tim Foust's earth-shaking bass! Please continue falling through the Home Free rabbit hole, How Great Thou Art and Auld Lang Syne are perfect displays of their buttery smooth harmonies!
Home Free are absolutely incredible amazing beautiful group!!!! It's always a immense and fantastic experience! ❤️❤️❤️
Yes !!! My favorite band !!
What a treat to have TWO basses on this song, eh? I am so glad you like this version by them. Yes that beat boxer is marvelous
Home free are lit, they have soooo many good songs to react to. Plz do another
Thank you for reacting to Home Free! 🎶😁🎵 This group has gotten me through the pandemic. You have barely scratched the surface of what these guys are capable of. There is so much more and you will never walk away not being uplifted. They love what they do and the energy delivered is well received❗️Loved your reaction & exclamations. 😁
I love those low resonant voices! So soothing!
Great reaction!😃
I really love the crystal clear high notes contrasted with the growly low bass. Soooooo pretty.
Tim and Geoff both have somewhat larger range than Avi, but for my money, it's still Avi...the tone, resonance and ability to really express emotion.
I like the tone of Avi and Tim. I think I lean a bit more towards Tim's tone. Geoff is cool.
@@michelle32855 Tim is B0-A5 avriel is E1-Eb5 Geoff is B0-A5
Love acapella. Also pentatonix and Voiceplay. Love Avi!
Should react to Home Frees cover of Man of Constant Sorrow
If you want to learn more about how they started, watch the Sing Off Season 4 with the intros and judges remarks.. they won the year after Pentatonix
I saw them live, and Tim Foust, the basso profundo started a G0 growl for Your Man and really did come in as high tenor for Mayday
If you loved how low Avi Kaplan went, then look up more of his songs that he did. I get CHILLS when I listen to his bass.
Welcome to home free!! They have their own channel on RUclips with a ton of videos. Tim is the bass. Adam Rupp is the beatboxer. He has won world competitions in beatboxing. Check out man of constant sorrow or in the blood or can't fight the feeling
You REALLY need to listen to the group "Pentatonix" where Avi Kaplan started out. They are DYNAMIC.
Love the response, they are my favourite group and great guys, see them every time they come to Canada near me. Better in person. All sounds are made with the human voice. You should check out mayday now, the incredible bass you heard at the end, Tim Foust shows his range a little :). Subscribed.
Home free man of constant sorrow is a must!!
“great balls of Barry White!” 🤣🤣🤣
I think that was the funniest and yet most accurate exclamation ever! Haha
AVI!!!!!!!! He's my new favorite singer! Just such a beautiful tone, so rich and smooth 😊
I saw your recent Short from this video and had to come watch your whole reaction. You are so full of joy when discussing music. I love it 🙂❤️💯👍
Avi and his voice 😍
And Home Free......I mean.......no words
This is a reaction almost a year after this was posted so I'm sure you know by now that Home Free has five tenors and at least two basses. They are a deeply talented group. Thanks for the informative review.
Please please can you react to home free cover - Auld lang syne . It's absolute perfection
So glad you’re reacting to Home Free!
High tenor Austin Brown
Lead Tenor Rob Lundquist
Baritone Adam Chance/Chris Rupp
5 octave range And Bass Tim Foust
Beat boxer Adam Rupp
Man of constant sorrow is a must
You had me at "great balls of Barry White" lol subscribed!
Check out more of that smooth Avi Kaplan voice ~~ He has an amazing lineup of original songs!!
I truly truly love your reaction. Thank you
Tim Foust did a pair up with Peter Hollins on Misty Mountains. I know you just watched Peter's solo on it, but Tim brings so much to it!
Satisfying is the perfect articulation for the opening...
Thx!!
They are JUST like this live. The beatboxer does a 9-10 minute drum solo in concert. Going to see them again in December in Dallas.
Ken you said you always marvel at people can do nontraditional things with their voices; then checkout Home Free's Man of Constant Sorrow and be prepared to be blown away.
Truly amazing video I have loved home free since they started and I am a bass singer so I freaking love both of those bass singers!!
😀😄😁😃 I’m just saying that your reactions make me smile! I enjoy watching your reactions and it’s obvious the joy you get from hearing great talents. Thank you!
New sub... Home Free is amazing and I can't wait to hear you react to more from them!!
Welcome to the world of Home Free. I love their version of Helplessly Hoping.
Tim Foust Home Free's bass has actually blown out subwoofers on stage.
This song is just INSANELY fun :) I was smiling and laughing the entire time.
ONE OF MY FAVS esp Avi, also PTX & angelina jordan
I just looked back at your list of reaction videos and I see no Pentatonix. You really should find something of their's to react to. I would recommend, Hallelujah or Bohemian Rhapsody, which has Avi Kaplan, the original bass, and Sound of Silence, which has their new bass, Matt Sallee, who took over for Avi, when he left for personal reasons.
I really think some of their original work is fantastic with Avi - like "Love Again" or "Sing" - but my favorites of their newer stuff is "Come Along" or "Deep End"
I'm so glad you've experienced Avi!
you definitely need to watch more Home Free, there excellent
