This challenge is always do or die, I thought when the Great Wall came up you’d finally began to snowball over the bugs but… Well, every episode is a cliffhanger
@@Self-replicating_whatnot Just remember, biters are a production challenge, not a war challenge, so the answer is usually more turrets (or bots). As an example, on a normal game, before I have a base wall, I usually put pillboxes of 2 or 4 turrets. On my death world, they started at 8 and went up to 20.
>gets cliff explosives to make his base easier to traverse >uses them to blow up the cliffs assisting in defending his base power move in all seriousness the sheer absurdity of biters at this point makes me imagine what a fully operational artillery outpost would do here
@@leobastian_ I played warptorio and some of the worlds you transport to is a death world, its amazing when all the artillery just goes Ham on the bases.
Seeing the repairbots finally come online is so cathartic. Imagine all the time it will save! I'm curious to see how you'll power enough laser turrets to cut through this endless sea of biters. It's going to be a tough battle I'm sure. Imagine what it'll be like when you finally get enough resources to afford artillery, lol.
Every episode I get more invested and have more faith! The first episode I thought it was impossible, then I thought there was a small chance but now I don't think the biters stand a chance!
Once the first expansion is self functioning I'll have more faith. Currently he's running out of resources and time and running into much trouble in the near future
@@andrewferguson5992 True, but Michael is a real veteran at this game. Plus, he's a planner. He knows down to the last metal plate what he needs to keep this playthrough alive.. but he's also pretty masterful at keeping the suspense! ;-)
Agreed. Unlike the walls, cliffs can't be broken by biters/spitters, so they're permanent fortifications. I prefer to build walls just behind them, with the cliffs being at the distance where my turrets can get in some free damage before they get to the walls.
My tip from watching and playing Biter Battles... whenever they breach your wall, double up just that small section of wall. Biters tend to attack the same spot over and over, and just placing more walls is far more time efficient than repairing walls.
I wish you luck with the laser turret strategy, it can work well but it is also easy to mess up. Getting a second Iron patch would probably be a priority followed by Uranium and then more oil?
YESSSS now you, Michael, are not alone with biters! You have mechanical, cute-sounding bots to keep you company. And you are so benevolent that you even invite the bots over to a barbecue, truly heartwarming. Amazing episode, I wish I was as good with italian cuisine.
That moment when you finally get construction bots set up, seeing them free you from having to run mile after mile repairing? Pure bliss. I wasn't expecting you to go for the laser turrets for offense, but it makes a whole lot of sense. There's the big initial cost for the upgrades and their production, but not relying on ammunition means they're quite-cost effective in the long run, especially given the dwindling iron. And since you're using them for offensive moves rather than making a wide defensive perimeter for the base, their downside of draining power (and slowing down your factory's production) is lessened quite a bit, since their up-time will be lower. Very smart move!
Where even is the next iron patch? At least his defense didn't have recurring iron cost, until now. Hopefully with the slow bots he won't be losing too many. Imagine trying to defend a starting base with gun turrets. That would have been impossible. Edit: Found them by going back to episode 1. There's one to the southeast and one to the north west which is also close to uranium. The one to the northwest isn't that bad getting to. It's just guarded by one double biter base in front and a large base slightly behind, and whatever expansions they created between then and now. Could possibly sneak a rail line almost all the way there.
I did one a few years ago, it was actually super fun! The pause button really helped me, anytime I would start to freak out it let me think and plan. As I keep saying, biters are a production challenge, not a war challenge. So the answer is just more turrets. Start the game and instead of 1 or 2 turrets defending, do 8 or 10. Then prioritize bullet damage. Then red ammo. And as soon as you unlock oil, before your first refinery, get flamer turrets up and running. Finally, efficiency modules in your miners really helps pollution.
As someone very new to Factorio, this series is both incredible, entertaining, and even informative. Not only is it impressive to watch you fight against the odds to create a factory in the _worst_ possible conditions, it also teaches a lot of good tips and tricks that can be translated into normal starts (that three-conveyer-belts trick on the assemblers was really cool, and will definitely help me with saving space on the factory floor). Subscribed and excited to see where the series leads!
This is by far my favorite Factorio series. The threat is constantly escalating with you continuously improving/adapting right along side it. This is true war in Factorio and I just want more of it!
