    1983 born Mancunian. So strange seeing my city exactly how it was when I was growing up. So much rubbish on the ground. We were so poor. Also so much better now they’ve pedestrianised this Street. And the old GM buses. Devastated when the council sold them off.

      Alex Daniel I had the same observation about the rubbish on the ground. Didn't look great.

      To be fair to the council it was government policy to sell off the buses.

    There is a extension of the Trafford Park Line to Port Salford which is under construction that are due to be completed next year. That will allow the Metrolink M5000 trams to branch off the existing Eccles Line at Pomona tram stop and to travel on the new Trafford Park Line to Port Salford.
    And there are plans to extend the Metrolink to Stockport which new tram-trains could be built for the Stockport extension. Just like the Sheffield Supertram Rotherham extension that Class 399 Tram-train vehicles are operated on.

      Thanks. I remember travelling on tram-trains in the 1970's in Karlsruhe, Germany. It is a good concept, proven very successful.

      EssexLad 8919 Port Salford? Doesn’t exist. What you actually mean is the new Trafford Park line to the Trafford Centre is being built as a branch off the Eccles line. It is actually complete, they’ve just started running trams for commissioning

    Very interesting good view - I didn't know they'd changed that to a single island platform!

    • @CitytransportInfoplus
      @CitytransportInfoplus  4 года назад +2

      Yes, they closed the High Street stop which was just around the corner and rebuilt Market Street as a fully high-level island platform. But it does cut the road in half (lengthways) in a way that the multi-level platforms did not.

      I live elsewhere in the country and until I saw the building works installing the tramway in 1990 I had never even visited Market Street - which explains why there are no views showing it as it was in the days before Metrolink

    90s fashion was so much more interesting. Brighter colours and more individuality. It seems people dress a lot more similarly to one another these days, and often in darker colours.

    • @CitytransportInfoplus
      @CitytransportInfoplus  3 года назад +1

      I'm not a fashion guru but I understand that when the economy is booming people dress more brightly / outlandishly whereas at times of economic hardship people dress more dourly and in ways that do not stand out so much.

      Couldn't agree more, I still wear double denim and bright colours... Have to say, you get some looks of disapproval and sometimes laughter from the rest of the sheeps. Weird how things change and, it's rather sad that people are obviously afraid to be different/themselves these days.

      @CitytransportInfoplus  4 года назад +1

      yes, much better than in 2012, a longer shelter. I liked the multi-level profiled platforms from the 1990, but it seems that many people did not like them

    • @Mikeb1001
      @Mikeb1001 4 года назад +1

      Nope, the 90s days were better, for one I miss the sound the original ticket machines made when you pressed a button and 2, I miss the sounds the old trams made. Also the old trams were way more comfortable and had loads more seats

    • @railnut21
      @railnut21 3 года назад

      The profiled platforms were useful but as traffic rose especially after the 90's big bomb things needed to be changed to be able to accommodate numbers. Mosley street whilst sorely missed became redundant in 1998 really when they changed Market Street to its current form
