Amazing the level of change especially how built up Lower Mosley Street now is compared in the first clip. Where the Bridgewater Hall is there used to be a pub that was famous for people pinning underwear to the ceiling. It’s a much nicer square than it was back in the early 90’s due to the noise and fumes from the busses though I loved all the liveries and fleets back then. The view down Lower Moseley Street is changing again with the building of Axis and the super tall Owen Street Towers. The rate of change citywide is outstanding. Great vid as always.
Totally agree with you. I spent several years in the Stanley (Midland) Casino which you would enter from the side (Lower Mosley Street) - opposite where the Travel Lodge now sits. So many happy memories
Great video👍 Them M500 trams don't have the same charm as the T68s. Lovely seeing all the then different bus operators in the early footage. Like Liverpool, Manchester was heaven if you loved Atlanteans. Looks pretty busy there today. Must get over at some point but sadly buses are mostly Stagecoach or First destroying travel, on the tram side, I still need quite a lot to photograph or spot. That grey and yellow livery is horrid tho! Keep up the good work.
Has the council missed anywhere to concrete over? And there was a chap sitting on the plith of the 'cross'...!...can't have people hanging around. They must go in to a cafe and spend money. Q. In a that huge space where can people sit and talk and relax?
As a fare dodger back in the day, I never really appreciated just how beautiful the original Metrolink trams and even the staions were - the garish Yellow they use now for the trams and stations is just vile. Bring back the White / Grey and subtle Green they started with. Why did they change it to such a horrible eyesore Edit - I'm reformed. Have been paying since around 2010. Do miss the Metromax daily ticket!
the T68s had many problems and it was cheaper to replace them so that the system had one identical fleet rather than carry out significant reconditioning, upgrades and repairs
We used to wag school and jib the tram to go fkin around n shoplifting in Altrincham, Sale, and Manchester when I was about 9/10 in the 90’s. Little Bstrds! Lol Sure I’ve still got fines I’ve never paid from them Met inspectors 😂
Since moving to Greater Manchester for university, I can't get enough of the city :)
Its changed greatly in the past decades. Mostly for the better.
citytransportinfo especially when the IRA kindly knocked it through for us...
Greatly sped up the regeneration of Corporation Street!
Are you still living there after uni?

Tommy Ducks was the pub.
Used the trams once the line went out to Rochdale I go weekly to this stop so cool to see the stop before my time
i remember seeing this before the station gets expanded and renovated

Thanks :-)
The new trams look nicer and more modern
The earliest trams would be lethal if you were hit by one.
Glad that they improved the design over the years.
they go full speed out of the stop, it looks a bit mad. They dont do that anymore !

But they could've kept the original livery the same.

sorry but I do not know the area well enough to be able to answer your question. But I do agree with your dismay about how much land was paved over
Makes me home sick.......living in Holland!
HOW!!!!!!!
4:55 what fantastic police issue moustaches!
An ongoing atrocity which required the moving of the Cenotaph. That area is now rivalling Piccadilly Gardens as an open air railway station!
A lot less people I see.
Yeah it was great, before all the hoardes moved in.

Well theT68 got old they needed something newer
It's a shame that the T68 trams got replaced. They were only 20 years old. The new M5000 Trams are just plasticy and rubbish in my opinion.
Brand new trains are all in plastic to be cheaper, easier to maintain and lighter

hmm, best to not say too much as even decades later bad things done when a child can cause issues.
@@CitytransportInfoplus not that bad really though is it? Doubt that will ever catch up with me now.
