On behalf of DC(not just Superman, not just Batman, so on) Fans, I'd just like to say: Thank you. No matter what happens, the DC Universe inherently believes that people are *good* at their core, and your explanation of the Clark/Superman dichotomy is a perfect distillation of that. I love this take on the dcu. It looks at superheroes with a more realistic approach, but doesn't turn it into some gritty dark bullshit. It's optimistic about humanity and I like that. Also I was about to comment about the batman armor and superman bullet thing before you brought it up in video. Curse you! Sounds like a lot of these powers have to have a similar source though, I mean the genetic hybridization of aquaman and wonderwoman feels super similar, and the EMP waves and kinetic energy creation/manipulation seems similar between superman, aquaman, the flash, and just a lot of the technology we've seen so far.
I love this, each one has so many unique properties. honestly after hearing this one of the moments you teased that im really looking forward to is sups vs Manchester Black. and im sure youll make it epic
This was a great watch, have always loved getting detailed breakdowns of character powers and really like all the thought you've put into them. Makes me think how sick it would be if you could have one of those Marvel/DC Handbooks(history/power description/etc) for your characters.
@@ikonyk4370 They both seem like a push and pull, so I don't really see a difference. The scene where they learn to fly in Chronicle looks almost exactly like what Clark's first few attempts to fly sound like.
Big braines maniac - Brainiac. The three lights - Supemant, Aquaman, Wonder-Woman. Also Braniac logo. Also what Vendall Savage is looking for. They are 3 perfect life forms, last of their kind, that represent Air, Water, and Earth, who'se genes were obviously somehow manipulated. This is what they kryptonian epic is really all about. But... We'll get there. The fun is the journey, even if we know what is on the horrizon.
AYYYY is this the Arthur content you mentioned before? Lol I love the idea of "a special hospital for Wonder Woman" that looks more like an automotive plant. Also I see you "mysterious technology found by Lex Corp," which wouldn't happen to be a project run by a Dr. Henshaw would it?
Your note about Superman, sunlight and plants now has me wondering if Swamp Thing exists in this world. If so, I can imagine Swampy causing a bunch of flowers to grow, and Superman who is watching this just feels really weird and doesn't get why.
I thought superman's tolerance to alcohol was so strong that deathstrokes poison only got him drunk. (In American alien) also love your portrayal of superman. Iand the last chapter of American alien, as somone that struggled to enjoy Man of Steel because of Clark's seeming lack of reaction (wether it be directing, acting or writing) to distruction, it was SO hard to look past, it made him very unrelatable. Your last chapter in American alien felt like a direct response to that lack of empathy in Man of steel. It was beautiful, it was 5% of the damage and it shocks and disturbs Clark to the core, because that's exactly how anyone would respond, especially a boy raised on a farm.
The Will Smith "quote" at the end was brilliant. And also, depressing, because it truly represents the dumb-downed painfully ham-fisted stuff we'll likely always get from the WB.
I love your version of Aquaman, ambivalent on your Wonder Woman andabsolutely love how your Superman is more Clark and human than any other version. People tend to forget that the best thing about Superman is the fact that he's a farmboy from Kansas trying to navigate the big city. Also his relationship with people is the best, he's like an approachable God.
I remember back to when you described Wonder Woman as an earth elemental, Aquaman as a water elemental and Superman as an energy/fire elemental. It makes more sense now that you explain that basically, Aquaman is that much stronger because of how much water he has around him, Superman is the strongest when he's in direct sunlight (which makes me wonder, does that mean he's even stronger in outer space where he doesn't have the ozone layer between him and the sun?) and finally, that WonderWoman is so trained that, as long as she has a good, steady footing, she's unstoppable. The only thing you need to nail now is the final payoff. I'm pretty sure you already know the end, but, if you don't, that's a hell of a lot of pressure.
Aye weird thing. But didn’t vandal savage talk about the 3 lanterns over ice? Kinda odd how these three super powerful people met each other. Meh, I’m sure it won’t mean anything in the future.
I've always liked the theory that Superman was actually an insanely powerful psionic and that his powers were all a result of him just willing them to happen. So flight is him compressing space in front of him and expanding it behind, heat vision is him redirecting kinetic energy out through his eyes, ice breath is the reverse of that, etc. Similar to the Plutonian from Irredeemable.
Hey how do clarks senses work? Like how does he just function and turn the super hearing or like smelling or whatever off so he's not freaking out and unfocused all the time
Clark's senses aren't full up one-hundred-percent of the time, just like yours aren't. Clark's threshold of focus and clarity just goes much deeper than most people's; ie, at any given moment he's hearing a normal spectrum of sound, but he can essentially "zoom in" on things to a degree that's superhuman. Similarly, Clark's super-strength only really activates with affirmative and intentional exertion; he's not going to accidentally crush and kill someone with a hug any more than a big strong body builder is.
Would it be too much of a stretch to describe Clark's power as an Electro-Magnetic Buffer? Considering how his powers of Strength and "Invulnerability" are described in this video, it kinda makes sense that his EMB works to reduce the dangers of physical interactions between himself and others.
"If I were a Deep One, Blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub, All day long I'd swim beneath the waves, If I were a Deeeeep One. Terrorize the tourists! Blub blub blub blub bloody blub blub bloody blub blub blub blub, If I were an icky icky fish, scary, slippery, frog-eyed kind of man!" Arthur Curry sings all the hits, on 92.7 FM, WMON, Monster radio!!
All I want to see is Batman defeating Superman without using kryptonite. It is possible. All you need is imagination and explaining what Superman really is, in a way that builds on what audiences know about him.
Yep you are right about Superman's powers being electromagnetic in orign. A fight against Magneto could be interesting. I wonder if Magnus could somehow cancel Superman's powers.
So if this superman we're to bathe in the sun for a while and fight Aquaman in the ocean could he stand a chance then? I would imagine punches being able to create air pockets and shatter the sea bed blow for blow tearing each other apart and or blowing each other way. Amazing concept for them all. Gotta look up these comics an read em
That would be insane. If Clark physically approached the sun he'd probably explode or light on fire, but if there was a sweet spot, jesus he'd be like a living super nuke
@@Uptomyknees Wish you had more leverage man, me my dad and bro think your ideas on big picture would sell BIG time. Crazy how bad directors end up in the position to make highly anticipated movies and ruin the memories of them. Hype for this review at 2 tho
I love this video! I'm a sucker for discussing new approaches to understanding how a character's "powers" work. Especially when the thinking is as intelligent and creative as what Max produces. As an almost entirely unrelated side note, it always bothers me that characters never think to upgrade their costumes or use weapons. For example, why shouldn't Wolverine walk around in armor and shoot people? Daredevil should be constantly working on his armor/weapons. And so on. I get that some characters do this, but doesn't it make sense for every character to do this? In fact, why stop with what they can do. Keep going and get more powers/abilities. I love the What If where Spider-Man and Wolverine pretty much go rogue. Spider-Man learns how to develop his spider sense, letting him see into the future and do things far beyond what the standard character can do.
The similarities between Arthur and Diana’s powers. The comparison of Superman to plants...oh man is this going where I think it’s going? I can’t wait until this all unfolds
Hey so do Hawkman and Hawkwoman still exist in this universe? In American Alien, Lobo came to find a couple of rogue Thanagarians (I think) but they haven't shown up in the epic. Are they still on Earth?
Max, my favorite detail here is about how Superman deflects bullets. Because you are compensating for allowing scenes where Superman walks through bullets without anyone having to worry about ricochets killing people. It's the moral of regarding Clark still shining through, massive collateral damage and death is really out of place in a Superman story. Side note, what did you think of Superman vs The Elite? Either the animated movie or "what's so funny about truth justice and the American way?"
So my understanding of what a regular Kryptonian is a fan like plant creature that stands upwards with tendrils going up like a ladder. There’s that scene of baby Clark with tendrils coming out of him when the ship landed and your description of Zod. So these plant creatures take in light and produce energy, like Earth plant life which produces energy to keep them alive. But instead of just enough energy to stay alive, they’re overflowing with it. Now what I wonder is whether they evolved naturally or were they engineered. Was Superman really the survivor of a doomed planet or was he intentionally planted here?
/listens to the point where Wonder Woman would gain weight if made sedentary /images of Fat Thor race through mind So...when Clark, Arthur, and Pete find her on the ruined island of Themyscira, do they find regular Diana? Or do they find a slightly more portly Diana?
Hey Max, I don't know if you've made a comment on this before but would you ever consider bringing these stories to an indie comic company like Image and slightly tweaking the characters to make them "original" in a sort of captain marvel/marvel man/miracle man kind of way?
The contrast between this meticulously crafted world and... the other thing on HBO, is so stark and staggering I may lose consciousness from sheer whiplash.
Quite the hilarious irony that that the people in the Kryptonian Epic dont just find out a connection between Superman and Clark, but they think Superman is somehow the real guy with Clark being treated as the undercover identity for the celeb hero. Honestly dont think I have seen that in a show before, it's real neat! Likewise cool to find out how the powers works. Curious to see that Wonder Woman basically is an evolved human rather than a product of the gods... Though it makes me wonder how that ties to the rest of her lore. Does the Olympians also exist? Are they evolved humans like her too? And are there any connection to Zatanna's magic powers? So many questions just out of pure world building lol.

Aaand on that note, think I need a better playlist. The video order seems less and less accurate the further I go along. (I am kidding..kinda..maybe..sorta)
And maybe a good story for DC would be about a Superman who looked more a little more alien, wonder woman looking more like a more accurate Amazon, and batman could be seen as a villain to people. Dick could be the one to stop Batman and become the new Batman. Clark would have a power to change his appearance to look more human, to feed his need to be more human. And Diana could have ran away from her home and joined the world as one of the first superheroes in the Late 18th century.
Humans have such a warped sense of perspective, especially when it comes to other people. Clark Kent isnt really Superman, Superman is taller. We have this pair of photos that's the two of them standing in the same place and we can tell Superman is taller. You know, them feeding into the meme. (Superman's boots have small platforms that make him maybe an inch taller. Nobody notices). Sure, Clark is physically fit and toned, he grew up on a farm and goes to gym every now and then because he wants to be healthy, but Superman is shredded. Superman's arms and legs are huge, you can see his 6 pack through his suit. Clark is just a guy, he doesn't have abs. (Superman has fake muscle sewn into the suit, just like superhero costumes on TV and in movies). Sure they have similar faces but they can't be the same person.
So TL;DR: The gap in strength between Wonder Woman and everyone else is irrelevant because she's infinitely more violent than all of them put together. Which is generally how things go down IRL too. Fights are won by the most violent, not the biggest and strongest. Like those OU players that were used to mop up the piss on a bar bathroom's floor.
Aquaman - I love it. It's very good so far. We don't yet an explaination as to WHY he's that way, but it's pretty awesome. Wonder-Woman - In previous videos you said she was 7' tall, now she is 6'5''? The hell? why did she got shorter? Also, you do know that this is not how evolution work, right? I mean, yeah, I like your idea about the gene editing machine who takes a female organism and makes it into the perfect warrior, just... don't use the word evolution there. It's silly. Other than those two things, she is pretty awesome and I reallly like this version. Superman - You making him a kintecist is interesting. it plays nice with some cannon, not so much with other cannon, but for your universe it works pretty well. However, I don't like the way you kind of contadict previous videos on the why people don't know Superman and Clark are the same person. Everyone calling Clark Superman makes the scenes you described in which Clark reveal parts of his shirt and go "I'm superman" stop working. Here is how you solved it cefore, which I highly recommand you stick with: No one knows how Superman looks like. There are no pictures of his face AT ALL online. Most people encountering him are so blown away from his powers and charisma when he allows himself to be Superman, that they describe him as idealized version of him - in their minds, he is tall, handsome, muscular, and you know.. action hero-like. They kind of remember him like a brunette version of Stephan Amell. But in reality? Clark is average looking. He is not muscular, he is athletic, sure, but nothing crazy. He isn't tall at all, he is average at best, maybe even a couple of inches below the avarage. He is the kind of guy you wouldn't notice when he walks right next to you on the street. This makes it so, that even if someone that actually saw the face of Superman whould see Clark, he wouldn't even conisder them the same guy. Even if someone would tell him that, they'll go like "What? Clark Kent?!? Nah... Clark is just a guy, man, while Superman is this crazy awesome flying SUPERMAN, you know?? They look nothing alike!"
You're confused about the timeline. For 7 years, Clark is able to live as Superman undetected. As you said, the reason is exactly that people don't believe it. The problem comes with dating Lois Lane; he's now on camera constantly, and a celebrity. Much harder to hide his face now, especially since people who've met Superman multiple times have easy access to Lois' instagram. This created, by The Society: Endangered Species, the awkwardness of a growing certainty that Clark is Superman. Remember, the story takes place on an evolving timeline. So when he starts: easy. But after seven years: memes.
@@Uptomyknees Ok, fair enough, it was just unclear from your description that you are now talking about 7 years later. But still, make Wonder-Woman to be 7' again :D :D
Wait, if Superman has electro-magnetic style powers, couldn't he used it to heal people, reiki style? (But you know, like, actually heal their physical wounds).

“Cult in Innsmouth...”
*hype for Aquaman backstory grows*
“But I’m getting ahead of myself...”
NOOOOO
Thanks Max. Do a live stream talking about Snyder cut if you can.
Thanks for uploading this, was having a crud day at work
This was a great watch, have always loved getting detailed breakdowns of character powers and really like all the thought you've put into them. Makes me think how sick it would be if you could have one of those Marvel/DC Handbooks(history/power description/etc) for your characters.
Im blown away by this. Your charisma is incredible.
The mechanics of Clark's flying seem really similar to Chronicle. I dig it.
Sounds kinda like the opposite.
I think his power is more of a push than a pull like chronicle
@@ikonyk4370 They both seem like a push and pull, so I don't really see a difference. The scene where they learn to fly in Chronicle looks almost exactly like what Clark's first few attempts to fly sound like.
@@lundylow matter of fact, that actually makes a lot of sense.
Great Video! Love that you always refer to Superman as Clark
I always imagined Clark's body was somehow generating gravitons.
Truly it would take a big brained maniac to create these three.......
DING
Shiiiit... does krypton not actually exist?
Really weird meaning debilitating arousal.
I thought superman's tolerance to alcohol was so strong that deathstrokes poison only got him drunk. (In American alien)
also love your portrayal of superman.
He got the minimum level of drunk and then got very slightly more poisoned and drunk and shrugged it off in about three hours
I saw it as though through a lens darkly, but then the animation of the story of krypton came and blew my head open. And it's brilliant.
The Will Smith "quote" at the end was brilliant. And also, depressing, because it truly represents the dumb-downed painfully ham-fisted stuff we'll likely always get from the WB.
I love this so much :)
There's a lot to come before it's over, an every single second is very carefully planned.
Buried in ice? That’s gotta be a reference to something important later.
Lovecraftian Atlantis/aquaman is the coolest idea, and the twist to explain it is even cooler.
Will you ever do green lantern?
Earth's Second Green Lantern is one of the main characters of the Kryptonian Epic.
Nice find. Very cool!
I love the idea that everybody can see that Clark Kent is Superman and nobody cares.
I love the em spectrum stuff for superman's powers
That's part of the power, yes.
@@Uptomyknees Was not expecting a response, but still a sweet treat regardless ☺️
3:27 Now I have this image of Arthur running into that offshore Krusty Burger, bleeding, and yelling "GIVE ME 500 KRUSTY BURGERS!"
I hope that when you're done with the kryptonian epic you start your own superhero universe. Or go to Valiant and have them worth something again.
Arthur Curry sounds like an aquatic Space Marine
Also, thank you for doing this, Max.
"If I were a Deep One,
Blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub blub,
All day long I'd swim beneath the waves,
If I were a Deeeeep One.
Terrorize the tourists!
Blub blub blub blub bloody blub blub bloody blub blub blub blub,
If I were an icky icky fish, scary, slippery, frog-eyed kind of man!"
Arthur Curry sings all the hits, on 92.7 FM, WMON, Monster radio!!
So Clark is Superman is like the immortal Keanu meme. I like it
Another thing for the people who are really paying attention wonder woman's Island also flies using magnets

God, these videos are the only comic books I can really say I've "read" in a long time. I need to buy American Alien so badly.
The three lightssss
Aquamans can talk to fish, but all the fish really have to say is "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *glug* HHHHHHHHHHH"
Best Aquaman
How can I watch/gain info about this kryptonian epic fully, do I need to read American Alien?
American Alien is the starting point
/listens to the point where Wonder Woman would gain weight if made sedentary
/images of Fat Thor race through mind
So...when Clark, Arthur, and Pete find her on the ruined island of Themyscira, do they find regular Diana?
Your questions about Wonderwoman are indeed answered in the Truth About Wonder-Woman video

Awesome! Kinda just commenting stuff as Im watching it all through a playlist with a vague chronological order to it so I may have missed details that may have been mentioned in older vids, but yea excited until I finally reach that part!
Aaand on that note, think I need a better playlist.
The video order seems less and less accurate the further I go along. Think it mightve been better to follow the vids by release date, but that tricky to figure out manually, especially since the youtube app doesn't even give the option to filter the vids by time made anymore e.e
Taking over DCEU movies, when?
Is it just me or is every other fan of the epic turning into Guy Pierce in memento or maybe more current that meme of Charlie from always sunny..cause I really want a big huge white board , post it notes and a few days alone to dissect and try to work out these links cause damn are they fascinating..it’s when you explain things and then it’s like..wait I’ve heard something like that before!! Plus every time you do one of these focus videos I remember how awesome all the characters are because you do a perfect job of timing And doing videos focusing on others and making us forget about others..like I love the fact your Arthur seems to be the one your clipping close to your chest and we have had hints of his origins and..ok yeah where’s my whiteboard and markers..back to my theories..Roswell crash..now is that epic canon or just death and return..!!! (I am kidding..kinda..maybe..sorta)
I knew you were gonna chronicle supermans powers. Pretty smart my guy.
Rich Evans needs to play blackbolt in the mcu
All this Clark Kent stuff is suspicious. Come to think of it, has anyone ever seen Max Landis and Superman in the same place?
This man could sell ice to an eskimo
So this explains why he was able to survive Dr Freeze's shot! Clark Kent's hability is his stability, down to the molecular level
Aqua man is 8 foot, Diana is almost 7 feet...is Bruce and Clark just about 6 foot? Would having them around a table look strange?
Bruce is 6"6
I mean, Bruce Wayne can probably afford adjustable chairs
AAAAGGGHHHH I WAS IMMEDIATELY THINKING ABOUT THE ABLATIVE ARMOR
Max Landis: "I shouldn't give spoilers"
Also Max Landis: "It's like x, weird right?"
Is there a Kryptonian Epic Reddit page or something which has the ideal order to watch all the youtube videos regarding the kryptonianepic?
nah but there should be
would you describe aquaman as great khali but with stamina and a blowhole?
I am paying attention!
Oh, a plant, huh. Yeah, I get it.
Clark Kent has actually been Poison Ivy this entire time!
You're accidentally on to something.
I would have said that Superman converts solar energy into three different forms of energy kinetic, plasma and cryo energy
Holy shitt you look normal. 😂😂😂 Gj keep up the look man.
I like your science behind all the powers but why do they have to be so weak? Why can't they be planetary?
Wouldn't work with the story I'm trying to tell

What are we, some kind of Doom Patrol?
If only a fraction of this thought out process was implemented in... a recent "adaptation" (and I use this term VERY loosely) of the DCU.
