Haha thank you. I've actually paused the video just now at 6:07 to come to the comments section and comment, "Cain Marko? The Juggernaut?" only to see this comment from you, Max. Easy mistake to make. :)
The way you've crafted your landisverse (kryptoverse?) and how it integrates and alludes to aspects of the comics really shows your passion for the material; which is why it's so awesome to listen to you talk about it!
I legitimately thought this video was going to be “BECAUSE IT’S A COMICBOOK AND LOIS LANE IS A GOOD REPORTER, THE END” and then random KryptoEpic stuff for 11 minutes.

No Max, Lois isn't so smart...YOU'RE so smart. This is so intricately and magnificently woven together the way you have Lois investigating and deducing Batman's identity. It's all you though brother. This is fantastic.
I like the idea that the secret to finding Batman is finding a lack of obfuscation, like even he set up an asymmetrical approach pattern from multiple sites I could imagine he's like "No, let's make sure there is absolutely nothing coming from Wayne Manor" I had to look up to see if something supersonic could make a "silent" sonic boom, and was surprised to see that it's actually possible.

This was such a fun insight into Lois, felt like a rad puzzle. Loved how it’s simply a sense of picking up on Batman’s faults, they all make so much sense that I’m shocked no one else has ever brought something like this up. Can’t wait to see how this all pans out!
I really love your attention to detail with Bruce’s war on crime, and the obssesiveness and disregard for his own wellbeing that goes into crafting the mythic performance and illusion of Batman. Bruce isn’t just a guy running around at night as a bat-monster scaring the shit out of criminals, he’s also creating multiple other avenues and personas seperate from vigilantism that help dismantle the criminal empires and mountains of corruption in Gotham. It’s really refreshing to see a take on Batman like this, whilst also peeking into his fractured psyche and trauma that drives his compulsion to fight crime in such a theatrical way. By the way, your Lois is so BA, I love her.
If you like that kind of Lois-Thinking, you should check out The Metropolitan Man, a Superman-Lex Luthor story. Its really well told and incredibly smart.
@@Uptomyknees Me too! Ranked right up there for me with the Shocker: Legit, which got me through some really rough times...thanks for all your writings!
You mentioned in Agent of Batman that people keep getting found not guilty by reason of insanity. Are the criteria for that the same as they are in the real world? Cause in the US right now, there’s a bunch of tests to figure this out, and you (basically) have to either not have understood what you were doing, not understood that it was BAD, or were unable to control what you were doing. I’d love to see how this plays into your villains.
So here is a pitch for YOU, Mr. Landis- I love the fact that you've embraced the Matches Malone identity for Batman, among others. It got me thinking- does Bruce do more tangible good as Malone than as Batman? I'm running on a few assumptions about how the Bruce/Clark spirit journey plays out, namely that Bruce finds some form of healthy stasis with his identities through Clark. You've also hinted at a certain 'de-escalation' within the broader story for superheroes, and the promise of Clark finding a normal life. But let's say that down the line, Bruce and/or Clark still have a certain itch to right wrongs and face down danger. Rather than as Batman, Bruce has a strong avenue to pursue that as Matches Malone, or any number of other secret identities. Now pair that with the power of the press, i.e. Clark. A journalist is a stone's throw away from being a detective, just ask Lois. Now Clark can either be the hard-hitting reporter with a man on the inside, or be down in the investigative trenches with Malone. To me, that rebuilds the World's finest teamup with a wholly new and exciting dynamic that doesn't necessarily have to end in dramatic fight sequences.
My favorite moment in AMERICAN ALIEN is still Batman's first attempt to "intimidate" Clark Kent. What's interesting with comic book law enforcement is that few writers think about the way policing is actually performed. Take Gotham City, for example. There would be the GCPD, but there would also be the County Sheriff's which in any major metropolitan area would have its own investigation or inspector/detective department. There would be the Police Departments and constables of the surrounding municipalities. There would be the State police and State detectives as well as Federal Marshalls and FBI. Along with all this would be organizations like internal affairs, and park rangers who are often the first people called when dead bodies are found on park lands - city, county, state and federal. I'm sure in Gotham, the cave system is likely considered mostly public and park property. Also, due to CSI, people think that crime science units actually directly investigate cases, but they can only gather and examine the evidence in cases. It's called "forensic" science because forensic refers to evidence submitted in court, and that has to be neutral for the prosecution and the defense. CSI cannot suggest or interview suspects because that indicates a bias and would get all that evidence thrown out. They cannot work to closely with or advise prosecutors - they can only present the evidence. A normal vigilante that knows all this could pretty easily keep the police confused around their activities, but one with unlimited resources could basically control investigations.
Hi Max, I'm really enjoying these videos and I'm halfway through this one, but I was wondering which books (issues/series) this story is from, because I'd like to go read them
During the deconstruction of Batman as I figured out what I wanted to do with him, I realized it the traditional version of the character was flimsy and easy to punch holes it. It became about listing holes. The fact that he himself plays Matches is insanely risky and self destructive, and I worked backwards from there.
Hey Max, I know this is completely unrelated but you mentioned in a few videos that Spider-Man was your favorite superhero. How come you’ve never made a video about him?
Yo, so I remember you saying something about Batman having Billy Batson and Wally West as two new Robins. I don't remember where it was mentioned, but that concept was really interesting. Wally West is my favorite character, and even though I imagine this version is nowhere near the same I'm still interested in hearing about him.
The only part of this I have a had time believing is that Batman would fly the Bat-Wing at supersonic speeds as it left the Bat Cave. Even if he wanted a ride in an emergency it would make more sense for the Bat-Wing to fly a holding pattern over the ocean, and swoop in if necessary.
I think you raise some interesting questions about Batman. Is Bruce a more effective crime fighter as Matches Malone than as Batman? I know that's not the point of the narrative, but it gets the noggin joggin.
How would the Batcave in this universe look like? How many escape routes would it have? I feel, the ones in the movies are too dirty. Wouldn't he need more clean rooms and labs and a really cool library?
It’s built into the cave system beneath Wayne manor and it took six years of contract jobs, mostly prefabbed that Bruce then built in himself.. Worth knowing: Dan Garrett designed part of the cave.
Thanks. That's a neat explanation. But this gives me one more question. Was Garett one of Wayne's mentors or was he clueless when he designed the Cave? By the way, love your characterisations! The individual arcs area very intriguing, so far. Hope to come across more of this great stuff!
I call bull here. You have Lois think it's an organization... then think it's a single person with unlimited resources. But that's not what the evidence suggests; the batman seems to be one part of a much larger organization - one with deep ties in Gotham and even deeper pockets. In fact, his tactics might even seem like those of the mythical league of assassins, rumored to have their hands in the destruction of major cities throughout history. The theatrics are successful on the hired help, but even the upper society tells stories about the bat. Some report that the bat is everywhere at once - possibly a strike force. The fact that so many people are aware of the batman, despite no public appearances and contradictory stories, suggests a cabal, or police strike force. As for tracking down where the Batplane comes from... you'd have me believe Bruce routinely hacks the GCPD files, knows a dozen martial arts and how to fly a custom plane he designed... but he doesn't know how to fly a bit higher? No; you'd have us believe Bruce takes the plane out once a week, just to put it through it's paces. Nonsense; we might sensibly ask WHY the batman has a plane, but he's not PLANEman; you can spot the jet maybe 2 times a month, but certainly not in the first 6 months. Long story short? This feel a bit too "Heroes Reborn" and bit less "Batman the Animated Series." (Also, not a fan of Batman covering for Harvey... in the classic BTAS episode, Bruce is Harvey's friend... and apparently for a long time... but even HE was fooled. Bruce makes mistakes. You want Lois to catch on to Batman? She needs to stumble on his MISTAKES. But really? Really you just need a Batman-centric Lois Lane analogue... an Alexander Knox-type. And maybe Knox isn't the smartest tool in the shed; but Lois doesn't moonlight and show him up w/o Bruce making a mistake. A big one.
ok. so lois lane is just charismatic enough to not get murdered by masked merc's, corporate industrialist, megolomaniacs, due to all these criminals and politicans inherent love of "gothamesque" performance art and who wouldnt want an oppurtunity to go main stream with the daily planet's most atractive investigator. Any idiot close enough to wield a knife is suddenly whisked up in the air by mr red and blue himself. Clark is on speed dial or has her chipped but nobody ever mentions that.
They have instant chemistry at work; he's funny, charming, and hard-working, as well as smart and quick, which she responds to. They build a close friendship for nearly two years before dating. He's also Superman. The sex, when it eventually happens one night after a group work get together,, is lifechangingly good. Once his secret identity is revealed, the trust is damaged and the relationship ends for seven months before Clark is able to convince Lois that his identity as Superman is secondary to his identity as Clark Kent. This changes everything, and Lois and Clark are suddenly now a power couple at a level human society had never seen.
Lois Lane, best character of the epic? She's not a Mary sue, her actions, decisions and "powers" are informed by her character. Her rise isn't because she had to, but because it could and has happened in real life. Her coming one step from realising Bruce Wayne is batman, came from months of intense research and basically her risking her life.
