The thing that bothers me most about this film is that the Wolves are don't appear and are not even mentioned. Even if they had a small role in the first film, it was still established that they were Mowgli's adoptive family.

It gets even more funny when you realize that taking Mowgli to the village in the first place is just asking him to become what Shere Khan hates about humans. Just another hunter with a gun. Heck, look at what the alternate ending to the first film was. Or even what happens in the original book.

Regarding that King Louie controversy, it was in regards to Disney reusing King Louie and his likeness within Talespin forgetting to consult Louis Prima's family who had put some of his likeness into the character and was partially his as well as Disney's (A similar lawsuit happened with Caddyshack 2 and the Gopher)
Long story short, they required to pay them before adding his character to that cartoon and it looked like they were avoiding doing so, so she sued.
I guess to avoid possible legal trouble they just said Screw-It and didn't include him in the second movie beyond namesake.

Now a days, it’s more a nostalgic trip if anything. Though there are things I like, namely anything with Shere Khan, and the fact Mowgli actually learns something and isn’t just being a brat to others or someone who the heroes have to bail out of trouble. And I guess the elephants too, but that’s due to my love for the species as a whole.

Have you ever heard of More Jungle Book? It's a storybook record that features original songs by the Sherman Brothers and the voices of Phil Harris as Baloo and Louis Prima as King Louie. The story is as follows; It opens a similar way as The Jungle Book 2. It opens with the song, Baloo's Blues. Baloo tries to get Mowgli back into the jungle. Bagheera convinces Baloo to sing him a song (Jungle Fever) to sleep, but it doesn't work. While Bagheera rushes to King Louie, the song he sings is Take A Look At Man. So Bagheera asks King Louie to go to the Man Village with him to get Mowgli. At first, King Louie refuses because of the destruction of the palace. He changes his mind after Bagheera mentions fire. Later that night, King Louie finds Mowgli at his house. There, He sees a burning hot coal and wants to touch it. With a big scream from King Louie, both him and Mowgli rush into the jungle and reunite with Baloo. Baloo sings another song called It's A Kick. Baloo's Blues and It's A Kick are the only two songs that were written by the Sherman Brothers and added to the 1990 reissue soundtrack of The Jungle Book. While Mowgli tells Baloo what the Man Village is like, he decides to go back and check it out with him. Mowgli warns about walking into the Man Village without caution. But later on, he walks into a trap. Mowgli rushes to Bagheera and Kung Louie for help. Louie refuses because he's stuffed with Bananas. So the go without Louie. Bagheera distracts the guards and Mowgli breaks open the cage to free Baloo. When everyone gets back together, Baloo and Bagheera argue once more about Mowgli’s future. Then they remember that there's a bamboo grove where man never goes. It's a pretty similar idea of the W-I-L-D sequence from The Jungle Book 2. Mowgli goes back to the Man Villiage, and Baloo, Bagheera, and King Louie sing the closing number of The Bare Necessities just like the original movie. The record was released in 1969 as a test product to see if audiences wanted a Jungle Book sequel. Unfortunately, it sold poorly and the idea never came.
I think this would be a great story if they added one important element: Mowgli's conflicts with Buldeo the Hunter. Bill Peet's version of The Jungle Book contains a series of storyboards of Buldeo. If you look at the Alternate Ending, you can see where this can go. The one thing that this scene has that More Jungle Book doesn't is Shere Khan. In the end, this would've been a much darker film than the original. But at least it would've been a better film than this shit load of fuck of a poorly put together rehash.

The reason Mowgli is able to interact with the kids in the village so well is because this movie takes place two years after the first film. So he has had plenty of time to develop his social skills.
Anyway, the point the movie was trying to make is that Mowgli and Shanti are from two different worlds and they grow by experiencing both of them. Mowgli learns the value of living in the moment while Shanti learns the importance of opening her mind. By doing that, Mowgli abandons his excessive nostalgia and Shanti finds her courage. But more importantly, they both finally understand each other completely, thus strengthening their relationship.
What weakened the movie was mostly the narrative. Shanti is a well written character, Mowgli has clearly matured a lot since the last film and like I said, Mowgli learns a different lesson than he did in the original and the symbolism of his turmoil is represented by Baloo (who represents Mowgli's past) and Shanti (who represents Mowgli's future). You can see that this movie had a lot of potential and it's one of the few Disney sequels that actually had effort and ambition behind it. But it's so rushed that we barely get any time to explore the new things. So yeah, I agree that this movie is bad, but for different reasons.

I was always wondering what happened to old King Louie; he made the first Jungle Book fun with his "I Wanna Be Like You-o-o~!" song. He wasn't even a bad guy, he just wanted to be treated like a human and he thought fire was the key to that. Selfish, maybe, but evil, not necessarily.

The Bare Necessities maybe overrated, but did you know it was not written by The Sherman Brothers? During an earlier “darker” version of The Jungle Book, the songs were originally written by Terry Gilkyson. Walt Disney had decided to abandon this version created by Bill Peet, his top story man. Fortunately, some of the elements that Disney used for the final version were actually inspired by Peet's darker version, such as the introduction of Kaa and Colonel Hathi, Baloo being a carefree bear, and the rhino, which was later named Rockyand was an extra character for the vultures before being written out of the picture. The Bare Necessities is the only song by Terry Gilkyson that used in The Jungle Book.

Also they could have done more for Mowglie reasons to go back to the jungle other than rules , rules rules. They could have made it so that most of the other kids and adults have a low opinion of Mowglie being a real wild child with Shanti , Rajan and Mowglie's parents beign the only ones to accpeted him but other kids view him as an outsider like not allowing him to play games with them , similar to Herucles not beign accepted by other people , however Mowglie isnt treated like an outcast as the other kids didnt have a problem with him .

About that cancelled sequel, something like that sort of happened in one of the unofficial sequels that were made into books.
While Shere Khan didn't appear in that book, but his mate & cubs do.
You heard/read it right, Shere Khan actually has a family that he's been protecting! So this justifies why SK hated humans (other than the obvious poachers & fire starters).
Technically, he's still a villain, but he's more of in the dark gray area. Meaning that he still does despicable things, but he has a motive to why he's evil.

If I had a nickel for everytime Phil Collins voiced a talking animal in an animated movie, I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird how it happened twice, right?

I hate this movie even as a kid I didn’t like it. It’s just baloo singing bear necessities and the same old story of mowgli not wanting to be in the man village, kaa wants to eat mowgli, sher kaan wants mowgli dead oh yeah and baloo likes singing the f🐬cking bear necessities Jesus Christ I hated how much they sang it in the movie. This is practically the a watered down version of the first movie at least when return to never land was released in theatres there was character growth Wendy had grown up became a mother and her daughter Jane learns what it’s like to be a kid with fun adventures out of all the Disney sequels this one is my least favourite right up there with Mulan 2 and belle’s magical world I mean it
    F🐬ck this movie

l Agree With Your Opinion Raisorblade In Some Points, But l Personally Think That This Movie Is One Of My Favorite Disney Sequels l've Ever Seen. (alongside lion king 2)
The music is okay (although l really didn't care about the WILD song too), the story is nostalgic & fresh, the characters were incredible (except lucky) & the animation was amazing!! 🤩🤩🤩 (except when the WILD song starts playing, because the animation starts to getting a little bit more cartoonish than the usual jungle book movie that l'm used too).
P.S. l Do Love The Music Of "l Wanna Be Like You" Smash Mouth Version & The Subplot with Mowgli having a father figure by his side. 😊😊 That was neat!! 👍👍
P.S.S. The Only Two Problems (or more like a nitpicks) That l Have With The Movie, It's:
    1. In a Scene Where Ballo Sneaks Off To The Man Village And a Bird Tries To Tell Bagheera Where Baloo Is. But The Problem Is.. The Bird Is Speaking Like a Normal Bird.. With Bagheera By His Side. Like "What The Hell?", Didn't The Movie Already Confirmed That Animals Have Their Own English Language That Only They Can Understand? Why Is The Bird Speaking Normally, When The Other Animals Communicate By Their Voices?? That Doesn't Make Sense.
    2. And The Other Is Mowgli Having Baloo Scaring Shanti And Then Immediately Regretting It. Like That Was Pretty Confusing To Me.. Specially When He Complains With Baloo About What He Did, Like "DUDE, BALOO WAS JUST DOING WHAT YOU TOLD HIM TO!! WHAT IS YOUR DEAL??"

7:58 omg i freaking hated that new vulture. Like i get he was supposed to be a comedic character but man, he was freaking annoying!! I hated how he made fun of shere khan non stop! He just couldn't shut the hell up. When i saw the movie for the first time as a kid, i was honestly shocked yet satisfied when i thought that shere khan killed the vulture, only then to be freaking disappointed when in the end the vulture comes back... like... how??? Why didn't shere khan just eat the vulture even if it would be offscreen 😑
Other than that, i still do like this movie. Yea it's good compared to the first movie, but it's still ok to me.

is it because it didn't come out in 1970s which is after the late 60s. or is it because mowgli was forced not to go the jungle. because that's the only things i hate jungle book 2. what i like about this movie, is that the characters sounded alot like the original movie.

Walt Disney's The Jungle Books are the worst adaptations of Rudyard Kipling's literary classic; Netflix's Mowgli is the best. Tony Jay was the perfect replacement for George Sanders as Shere Khan, though.
