Hell ye, it's always a good day when John uploads a new video. The pano is just awesome! Also thumbs up with the quality of the videos - they are getting better nad better every time :D I also love the music.
such an inspiration to watch your videos! I relate to all of your work including the heavy metal guitar breakdowns n the double bass kick drum fills hahaha! and also of the beautiful time lapses of your work with the milkyway core rising ! always a highlight of all your videos in my opinion ! Also i just got my new sony a7siii h alpha modded.. cant wait to get back 🤩
Wow - your panning time-lapse and soundtrack at 6:32 is absolutely killer! Mahalo for another awesome video and sharing your passion. Stay safe my friend. Aloha.
John, thanks for sharing your insight and hands on setup for shooting milkyway pano's with a tracker. This has been my goal for this spring, but I've always been uncertain about how many stacked images to take during the pan given the rotation of the milkyway. Sadly hear in Canada the core sits to the south, so at best you can usually get in about an hour for the core.
Oh mate that's special. I'm good enough at astrophotography to know I'm not that good. Just the vision and talent required for this shot is beyond where I'm at now but such an inspiration. Keep it up, love your work
Ditto, on what Matej said...about everything. It's refreshing to hear something other than soft-core techno/rave music. Absolutely stunning image! I can't wait for a break in the weather, so that I can get out and do some shooting.
First thing I did after getting home was watching this video...superb mate! You are pushing the limits further than anybody else in the wide astrophotography world. Keep up this amazing content! 🚀🌌
That’s a phenomenal outcome, John. Wow. Absolutely love it. 🤩👏 I’d hoped to land a tracked stacked arch pano last weekend up on the East coast of the UK, but strong winds, snow showers (!) and cloud meant I had to stick with untracked to stand a chance of getting all the shots I needed. Can’t wait to implement your tutorial!
Holy s@#t that is insane! So many questions, but I guess I'll just start with 2; 1. How to you deal with fatigue during the night? You are manually operating your gear, how do you keep your wits about you so you don't slip up and trash a nights effort? 2. How do you find the Samyang 35 f/1.4? I have the Samyang 35mm f/1.8 tiny prime which I love, but has a few CA / aberration issues for AP (even stopped down). I was thinking I might get the Sony 35mm GM, but that has me wondering what I'm going to eat as I'd have no money for food. Do you have many issues with your Samyang lens, or do you find its decent enough once stopped down?
Thanks Dominic 👍, I have had close calls with knocking my tripod plenty of times, but a bit of coffee and a camp chair helps alot. I'm naturally a night person so I don't find it hard at all I guess years of shift work helped. The samyang 35 1.4 is good for what I use it for (panoramas) it's not perfect in the corners even at 2.8 but essentially I only use the centre of the frame. I haven't tested the new 35 1.4 AF samyang or the sony 35 but am interested to see how they perform.
Epic mate. Loving your vids, shot my most successful tracked pano at the weekend thanks to your advise and knowledge. Best wishes from the cloudy UK. 👍😁
Smashing shot! well done. I'm properly jealous of the darks skies you folks have down there. I'm in Ireland and it's really difficult to escape the light pollution.
Do you now if the Genie Mini II which is a motorized pan/tilt device would work with Sky Watcher Sky Adventurer? - The genie mini has a panorama mode where you can set like the exact overlap and stuff and I’m wondering that maybe I could do a tracked panorama with it instead of using a ball head and moving it myself, so you think it’s possible?
Glad to see another of your videos I'm out tonight but was in such a rush I forgot the one most important bit of Kit! Yes I forgot my tracker! Anyway I have question inregards to your computer what sort of specs does your pc have to edit such large panoramas it must be very taxing on your computer? I'm quessing a good graphic card is in order?
Oh no!!! Haha I had a custom computer built to handle what I wanted to do, I'm not sure on the specs but the graphics card wasn't the most important thing, it was a really good processor
Hey John, I've just found your channel in the last week. Your videos are great and images are fantastic keep them coming! I've got a question with the star defraction are you adding that in post or its coming out when your shooting it? Cheers mate
Well i must say its not impossible anymore , what a ripper of a pano . You know your gonna have to blows this up and make it a very large print. Question i have is the foreground lighting ,clearly you lightpainted the car but the left side of the picture , was natural light ?
Now the proof of concept is done, I will shoot more images like this hopefully with less airglow so orion pops more. Definitely gona print this huge for sure. I ended up using a full natural light foreground shot in the twilight and just got creative in post production.
How many rows and how many shots altogether did it end up being? My concern with trying this is getting the Pano high enough because the arch is so high in the sky. I tried it once but didn't go high enough so it cut off the top of the arch and also distorted the top of the image. I've just ordered the same Pano rotator and 2 way head that you use so that should help a lot with doing panos and be much more precise than the z bracket I've been using. I assume too that you started from the bottom section below Orion first as that's the part that sets first.
The image was 3 rows high (in portrait) with a 35mm lens. When you shoot at this time of year, the camera will basically point straight up to get the top of the arch, This image was shot differently to how I normally do it, I shot vertical rows instead of horizontal rows, I started in the western sky and worked east, in the timelapse you can see the camera position throughout the night
Awesome result John, just superb! Not sure what the old car is but it has certainly "had the sword". Just you and the snakes out there! Good to see that you finally broke out the shoes 😂😂
Awesome shot again John. Quick one, do you re-level after each shot or each row/column? And do you do the leveling before or after you've moved to the next frame? Cheers

Thanks mate 👍 cheers for the feedback, I'm still learning video, but am committed to producing better quality stuff.
An amazing capture John, certainly worth the time and effort............👏👏👏👏
Thanks David, I'm glad it all worked out
Absolutely awesome photo mate!
Thanks mate 👍
Holy cow!!! If you ever run a workshop to get this shot, I’d be super interested.
I can run a workshop for this, I'm in Australia tho.

Nailed it John, bloody awesome pano mate.
Thanks Dennis 👍
Another ripper shot John. The results just keep getting better. Look forward to doing your course with you soon.
Thanks Rob. Sounds good mate
Absolutely epic shot
Cheers Eric 🍻
Really nice work. Another awesome image for the wall!
Thankyou. I definitely will print this one large
What an absolute stunner .👍
Thanks Kev 👍
That is absolutely incredible!!

Your welcome Rob, I feel very lucky to get the view of the MW we have.
Great video as usual. I've had my star tracker since January and it has done nothing but rain....
I hear ya mate, that's why I just got in the car and headed for clear skies
Wild one John. Even managed to get some B roll of some heat under the pan this time 😉
Haha yep 🤣 thanks mate
Amazing shot!
Thanks Liam 👍
Soooo awesome. Great teacher.
Thanks Chris, much appreciated

Absolutely stunning image! I can't wait for a break in the weather, so that I can get out and do some shooting.
Thanks Derek 👍 i could have stayed in those clear skies for weeks but unfortunately I'm back in the rain like most east coasters at the moment.
@@johnrutterphotography I live in Michigan USA (Great Lakes region), so the weather can be really rainy... a lot.
Its not very often you see a perfect unobscured 180 degree horizon with zero, and i mean zero, light domes. What a spot mate !
I agree, that location has 360 degree flat, dark skies it's unbelievable
Just watched this one again, ripper site mate. Im shooting in Namibia in July and this spot really reminds me of the African Kalahari
What a magnificent image John. Loved the drone footage, loved the time lapse . .awesome mate.
Thanks mate, I have so much to learn with this whole video thing.
@@johnrutterphotography Small steps mate . .you're doing really well I reckon.

Thankyou Paul, that doesn't sound like much fun. I couldn't imagine standing out in the snowy weather.
Been following you on Instagram for a while and so glad I discovered you on RUclips. Fantastic image and great vlog.
Well done!
Hey Colin, thanks mate. I have been enjoying your videos for a long time. Great to have a "local" following along.
Looks like your plan of aiming down for the car/foreground worked. I like how the grooves in the sand form a triangle towards the center. Great image.
Thanks John, I am very pleased with how the foreground turned out, even tho the lines in the ground weren't on purpose
Mate!! Absolutely insane ❤️
Also nice Timelapse as well, really puts into perspective of what it’s like out there all alone under the stars ✨
Thanks mate 👍 I appreciate the feedback, still learning timelapse and video stuff

I have never tried any sort of automated setup. I'm sure it could work.
Upload some Vedios to process the Antares region such like Instagram Milky Way feeds
I can do a processing video in the future

I normally re level after every second shot. And i re level then move to the next shot, not that the order matters its just how I do it.
@@johnrutterphotography cheers mate. Keep the good stuff coming...
Awesome video! John when you overlap your pano shots for 50% plus. Does aberration coma and astigmatism go away?
It does go away to an extent but your at the mercy of the stitching software.if you use masking in ptgi pro you can control it alot better
