Why do Astrophotographers connect "stuff" to the Telescope Tube? As an ordinary numpty it would seem more logical to have a "Platform" with all the Cameras and "Stuff" fixed to one side and the "Tube" on rubber isolating mounts attached to the other side. This would isolate the bit that holds the mirrors from all that other heavy stuff like View Finder Scope, Camera, Cooling Fans, PSUs etc and provide a fixing platform for other covers to protect Cables. It's just a thought but simply looking at a Telescope Tube dripping with bolted on stuff and loose cables looks like a nightmare 🤔
concidering this project is about precision and trying to reduce stray photons: would something like: Black 3,0 (one of the world's blackest paints whitch reflects back so little light it looks like a dark void) make any difference here ? . . like reduce scattering from the secondary mirror mount even more ?
Hey astrobiscuit, i just wanted to say whatever you do dont listen to all the comments complaining about the wait. i LOVE your content so please never give in to them all, what you do takes alot of time and effort, cant wait for the next video!
Yea I 100% agreed. I don’t see any of them putting in this immense effort to do what you’ve done and put such excellent content on YT to be enjoyed for free. Not of course discounting the massive behind the curtain work of all your supporters. Superb content as always. Keep up the epic work.
Shout out for the amazing engineering! The fact that you can now produce these upgrades commercialy is amazing! Good luck, and what an amazing journey you have all been on!
thx bud, yeh fingers crossed they sell as it would be a game changer for the channel. Making these vids is not really a successful YT model. I already know this one won't get a huge number of views just bc of the subject matter.
@@Astrobiscuit While pehaps not as successful from a YT/financial sustainability perspective, these videos are a massive artistic success :) . You've made something very niche and nerdy into a super entertaining and engaging series, I hope you find a path to continue forever!
I was expecting those parts to be seriously expensive, but all things considered they're actually a pretty good deal. Just under 500 quid for custom machined aluminium parts for such a niche hobby is really not bad.
@@patrickl9930 The entire run of prints will bring in 47.5k gross. After he pays for the prints themselves, shipping, his expenses towards this series, that should hopefully leave him with a nice profit. Which is a good thing. He's earnt it. And he'll then probably use it to make more videos like this. Win-win, if you ask me.
Bloody amazing job on Betty!. Thanks for pointing out the scale of our universe against the Horsehead Nebula, The enormity of space has now finally sunk in!.
I will craft a secondary mirror spider myself, because I'm a precision mechanic with the necessary machinery and materials and therefore take the chance to not spend any money on it, but I gladly pre-ordered the secondary mirror holder, because it is a brilliant design and a great chance to support this wonderful channel and all the work that went into designing and crafting the parts. Inspired by your "Betty" I'm currently upgrading the classic Skywatcher P150/750 newtonian as a long tewrm project which will hopefully see first light next year. Thanks to your work and Kerrys skill in designing machining parts my scope will be even better. Greetings from Germany and clear skies.
The fact that i stumbled across this channel by accident 2 years ago when i was an astronerd brings back alot of memories and thank you for showing most of us what we may never see ❤
I love this channel but dip in every few months to catch up on the nerdiness and awesome astrophotography. I can wait 63 or longer days, there is so much else that is equally rewarding viewing out there. Thanks for Betty Ep 3 biscuit, :) great fun.
I’m just a beginner in astronomy let alone astrophotography. But have to say, I’m finding your tutorials (for which I’ve now become a Patreon member) and you Betty series fascinating. Really loving it. So a big thank you to you and all those that support you.
Glad to see you are back!!! I wish you could make a living from this channel alone, but make no mistake, for most of us, life has been better, much better thanks to you. Congratulations!!!
Thank you for all you are doing for the community, Breaker! It is always great to see other crazies like yourself from around the world united by one thing: those glorious, soul-enriching nights under the stars.
You deserve the world Rory! Thanks for sharing this experience with us and getting me into this hobby! I’ll wait as long as you want, just keep em coming at your own pace. Much respect 🫡 Betty should be the new Henry of telescopes. Mass produce these 🙌
i love how betty has become and what a beautiful pic too this was well worth watching love looking at the stars thank you astrobiscuit im learning about our solar system
Oh, I think I shall have to go there... It's easier than finding and getting to a dark place in the UK I think. This sort of view has literally been a dream of mine for the last 60 years. I stand a chance now and you have shown me it is possible. Thanks.
I was literally thinking the same thing 🤣 the production quality and just everything in general just made me think of this hah, I absolutely love this channel.
That Soundtrack!! Great work! And Im fine with having to wait since Im not a patreon. I'm thankful to get this awesome content for free at some point. But: when I saw the first video there was a drone shot from top where I could see running cables to the car motor... and I immediately knew: this will be a problem. 😂 But yes, anker Power Cores are heavy, I get it. And usually you do let rhe car run.... 😊
God this series is great! Just rewatched the other episodes, and finally got to this one, and after all that happened to you, its brilliant to see things finally paying off. It's so cool to see you and Kerry reinventing the design of the telescope. Looking forward to episode 5! (p.s, love the editing and Ricktensteins soundtrack to it all)
Greetings from Germany, Great Videos, i like your way how do you do them. Fantastic. I love the inperfection , its like Mr Bean doing Astrophotografy. It is interesting to design and build one yourself instead of buying a good ready to start Newtonion. With all the problems that can arise at the beginning. Betty is on the right track. That makes everything more exciting. Keep it up, I'm looking forward to more videos from you and your colleagues. 👍 😉
I love what you do man. I love watching you upgrade the telescope and the shots you get are beautiful. I enjoy that the videos put emphasis on the process and the adventure. I look forward to next episode!
Loving the videos. You inspired me and last week I went outside with my camera and telescope and I actually saw Andromeda for the first time!! Thank you so much super exciting
Just found your channel 2 days ago ! loving it ! found a Explorer 8" older (manual) sorry new ? at goodwill for $50 heading out in the Utah desert tomorrow to close to a dark zone cant wait ! p.s. my 3 kiddos are loving your channel
Dear Friend...just discovered this wonderfully entertaining channel.. your enthusiasm is just brilliant ... Ive loved Astronomy all my life....when my appendix burst when i was 13 my dear Dad got me a 3in Refractor...( he already got me a 2and half Refractor).. spent many many happy years mapping Jupiter's moons... I actually used to set my alarm to watch Orion rise majestically above the rooftops!!! I wish you all the best ....and all your future endeavours.... Thanks for doing the print run and of course sharing the experience in the video. Fun, entertaining and looking forward to the next episode. That the newt's front end and 2nd mirror holder is available too is great news .... I am sorely tempted.
The secondary spider is amazing as well! When machining the secondary from a single piece of aluminium, you can make them either curved or incorporate directly the diffraction-suppression features shown by Cuiv the lazy geek ;-)
LOVE FROM THE USA! I went to a Bortle Class 1 zone last month and saw the milky way and got shown more stars than I can count. A telescope is needed next time!
What an image!!! And no cliffhanger. So.... I assume you did let the car run while powering the telescope up the mountain, no drained battery, no collimation problem and KITT peak destroyed!? Wow cant wait. So happy you got yourself to a travel telescope that is just blimmin crushing everything in its path! 💪⚡
Next time you park at the top of a mountain make sure you turn the car round so it is pointing down hill before you turn the engine off! Love the new secondary mirror holder & spider.
Thx for the warm feedback folks. BTW if anyone spots a link that isn't working please message me sales@astrobiscuit.com thanking you most kindly
Keep it a bit less sinister, please! They can't perceive beauty anyway.
