Big pharma messed that up by stating with WASNT addictive, people got on it while doctors thought it was not addictive, then it worked but then all of a sudden the truth comes out. Then damages people who benefited from it.
People with EDS were used to prove it wasn't addictive and benefit from it because it helps, but also people with EDS are more likely to have anesthesia tolerance, preventing addiction and preventing less powerful drugs from being a benefit.

The problem with medical patients needing pain relievers is a REAL problem. I recognize that. But legalizing all the drugs is not the answer. The medical community needs to recognize that some people need pain relievers. Period. And those doctors who over prescribe should face serious consequences because they have hurt everybody.

Three years ago I had the first of two heart attacks and was told I had to reduce my pain because it caused my high blood pressure which caused my heart issues. My doctors for three years have tried to get approval for stronger opioids, but the answer was no because of the opioid crisis. I have never used illegal drugs and now I am dying because the answer to the opioid crisis is to limit the use of opioids for those who suffer from severe pain. The hard part is looking at my children who are not ready for me to die.

I just found out a very prominent Dr I knew committed suicide at age 53 because of a chronic pain problem he had been dealing with for about 15 years. Much like the original comment, most people don’t realize how ALL medications eventually stop working or have little effect after time being on them. The USA is one of the few countries were self medication has been deemed public enemy number one. While abuse is something that needs to be addressed, the people that actually NEED the help of pain medications get swept aside and ignored.

Having to call every Walgreens in an entire city areanto find a store with your required medication in stock, to have pharmacists telling you they won't say if they have the medicine in stock (two of the local pharmacys were broken into and raided) until you drive there and show them the paper script, after 1.5hrs of rush hour driving, to then be told, "oh, sorry we don't have any in stock so good luck (and happy return drive!). Oh, and insurance likes to deny the script at the last minute for another 'prior authorization' on a medication you've had to take for 3yrs... Oh and you can't find out its needed until the first day your last months script runs out...

Thank you Kat for speaking up for the chronic pain patients in the US that are tossed aside in the panicked frenzy over opioids. Yeah, they're terrible, but so is severe pain. Doctors don't have any useful alternatives, so why the rush to demonize them for prescribing it's use? My wife was in agony for over 20 years from the pain caused by a brain injury, and only one of her doctors wasn't diligent in finding the point where it helped without being too much. The last five or six years of her life was wasted trying to get the doctor to give her enough to be able to function. She died last year in cruel unnecessary agony, and the I blame the fearmongers in the government and the press.

Narcon kits, drug kits to actually do drugs and drug shelters are FREE here in Canada! Us straight n sober working class are robbed to pay for it all. 🙃 It hasn't helped matters. Legalizing is not the answer.

I believe it was found out doctors were giving painkillers to every person possible. Companies were saying it was safe to give opiates to teens. People tend to forget that part. Even if you make drugs legal, manufacturing cost might still be cheaper. And look at weed it's very legal now and from work I see people getting high very early in the morning sometimes I see people doing it in their cars while their kids are in the backseat I don't think. Making drugs legal is a solution.

But yet it's ok to give the same people Flouride forced in our water, Aspartane, who really knows what in our foods and soft drinks, whatever is unrevealed ingredients in injections for illnesses, sugar in and of itself is killing us, tobacco, alcohol and on and on we can go. Just those of us that have illness or injuries that give unmerciful pain are now denied relief. No sir, it makes no sense to me. We are being poisoned either way. Why can my doctor and myself not choose what allows us the most quality of life? Government agencies certainly do not know nor care and have no business in it. Money and greed drives their interference, IMO.
