  • It's time to hit the grocery store and show you guys all of the options of chicken and what you should buy and avoid. There are many different options wen it comes to buying chicken, and it's hard to understand what it all means. Which is why I want to break it down for you. Pay no attention to marketing terms like hormone free and cage free, they mean nothing! But do pay attention to air chilled, that is really important because water chilled chicken is is bland and chewy because of the added moisture. Fresh chicken is important too, it means the meat has never been frozen and that will produce the most optimal texture. You really want to buy organic chicken at the grocery store, the stamp means a lot. The chickens have a non-GMO organic vegetarian feed and have access to the outdoors. Below are the most common store bought organic brands you can find at the stores. I hope this video helps you pick the best chicken and understand where it comes from. All we can do is our best at any given moment with what information and means we have. We keep an eye on sales (stores sometimes will have sales on the air chilled chicken and grass-fed beef, too) and buy an extra two to portion out and freeze. We also STRETCH the meat for our family of four my using it in stews, pasta dishes, or as portioned toppings on mostly veggie or rice dishes. After meal planning and checking the grocery store sales online, we go to the grocery store with our list and stay out of the center aisles as much as possible, which saves A TON of money, too. Hope these ideas can be helpful for families on a budget. ❤

      stop making excuses, either earn more, stop wasting money on crap or save. Food should be in the top 3 priories and you are saying you can't afford to buy the food as humans we are supposed to eat. Makes me sad to think you are giving up this easily instead of thinking about solutions to the problem. Sell that tv or gaming console, life is not about pleasure but about experiences which is what good food enhances. Life's not worth living when you can live truthfully and provide your body with the correct intended fuel that it is supposed to have instead of consuming synthetic stuff. Rationale thinkers will be more conscious of their body as it is linked to the mind and vise versa, right now you are heavily clouded by misconception and poor judgement. Irrationality and pleasure are controlling and clouding you from seeking and attaining the truth and ultimately gaining enlightenment. Hope this helps you

      TONS of antibiotics are used in CAFOs including chicken ones. What they dont use in chickens is HORMONES because it’s illegal and also unneeded because broiler chickens in CAFOs were selectively bred to grow to ridiculous sizes in only 2.5months without the need of hormones.

    This video came at the perfect time! I just went grocery shopping this past week and I was buying chicken and I kept going back and forth between this more expensive air chilled, better diet chicken thighs, and the cheaper chicken thighs that didn’t say anything about the chicken feed or if it was air chilled. I was stuck also because I am a student and so I can’t afford to buy organic or the highest quality all the time, so I ended up having to compromise and buy one pack of the air chilled better quality chicken thighs and one back of the cheaper brand of chicken thighs. I wish I could afford to buy only the best quality produce that is better for the animals, but I try to make the most mindful choices on what I buy when I can afford to. Either way I am still really glad to have watched your video and to know now what to keep an eye out for so that in the future I can choose the better option or I at least know what the better option is.

    Gotta say I was impressed with some of the information you gave! I come from a livestock background and my fiance is a poultry scientist, so I know way too much about chickens. Thank you for talking about hormones and cage-free labels when it comes to market poultry, I know that this confuses a lot of people. In my opinion the organic label is a bit of a marketing gimmick with poultry. If you read the USDA guidelines, they do say that you have to give the poultry (weather and health permitting) access to the outdoors. However, they do not specify the amount of outdoor space they must have. This means that you can have a small outdoor space that can only accommodate a few chickens and still be considered organic since you meet all of the other qualifications.

    • @danbev8542
      @danbev8542 2 года назад +2

      “A bit”? My understanding is that ‘big organic’ keeps the chicks inside until they learn to stay inside, THEN they are given a small door opening to a very small space. They have “access”, but would never go out because of conditioning.

After the chickens are slaughtered ,defeathered and degutted they left the hot side and came to me which was the cold part. I was responsible for keeping the chillers filled with the correct amount of water and chemicals. when they tested the birds for temp and moisture once it exited the chillers and it didn't gain the amount of moisture they wanted to make the birds look bigger then I would get in trouble.

    The main problem is pure and simple. $5 for 5 drumsticks or $7 for 16 drumsticks. Having a 6 member household, $15 - $20 for 1 item on the table ( not including the veggies --which have the same problem with pricing--or rice that go on as a side ) and now multiply that to last until the following payday, just isn't realistic. That is ultimately where the marketing hook exists. They want you to eat healthy but make it affordable to only a few and that is the major problem in the U.S. why more people aren't eating as healthy as they should. Not because they don't want to, but they can't afford to 9 times out of 10.

    I raised chickens for my 4-H club *twenty years ago* and one year we raised "broiler meat chickens" to learn about the breed.
    It was a sad lesson because even that 20 years ago the birds were HUGE and couldn't walk more than a couple feet when they were just a few months old. We couldn't keep them as pets and they had to be slaughtered because to let them live would be a torturous life - the older they got, the harder it became for them to survive. Even breathing became labored.
    Factory farming really is the most disgusting thing we are doing to animals, selective breeding of monster breeds that can only live to die? This is terrible. Buy from local farmers, or hunt your own food.

      It’s crazy how we are funding so much animal abuse just by just buying meat! It’s absolutely disgusting how some people don’t even CARE about animals, and their feelings they just see them as just some little product to the point that they make the chicken have to work so hard to just breathe! And all for money
      Lives no matter animal or human is way more important than money. There are COUNTLESS ways to make money that don’t involve making thousands if not MILLONS of lives absolutely torture. People are disgusting sometimes.
