I cried looking at the sponge Bob one I had that when I was 2 I mostly remember the donkey Kong one

"Why buy your loved ones a $50 Spongebob game for their WII where they have to take the disk out and place it inside the WII and plug it in their TV and who knows from what else from their when for $20 where you could get a Magical device where it plugs into they're TV, already has a game inside of it, and is a toy of Spongebob face"
Mario RUclips Bros that's like what 18 toys in one
Mario RUclips Bros or spongebob the movie game, which is a splended gAme actually
john tron
oh beautiful. jonny
Wrong video lol
I had the spongebob game, I regret selling it for 50 cents...
Especially since you can find them on eBay now for under $100
That Scooby Doo plug 'n' play looks a bit like a weird cartoon themed butt plug. Maybe that's where the glow in the dark function really comes into it's own.
That's its charm.
Id shove it up my add
I have one of those, i came to this videi to learn how to play it
@@kaimohammed2710 Google it.
I have the spongebob one
i had a fry cook games themed spongebob plug n play had like shooting sauce at krabby pattys jello bounce etc
I had the Olympic one, fun times :D too bad it broke a few years ago.
cheiahomer083 I used to have one
same
I used to have the sponebob one when I was little but I still have my Pac-Man Plug N' Play console!
i have the sponge bob one! its really fun!! :3
I do too! I like the snowball game
i like the plankton one X3
i have it too, but did you know the game sells for 69 US dollarz on amazon? its more than gta v for pc! lawl.
wow no way!!!
I got it in 2009. It was only 25 USD
I bought my first plug & play yesterday and I am already hooked!
They just look so cool and it's something unique, I am certainly going to collect them!
That man is playing Galaga. He thought we wouldn't notice, but we did.
its not galaga and when you said he wouldnt notice but *WE* did whos we? is it the 6 people that liked your comment or.....
@@jeromew2159 it's an Avengers reference dude. And at 6:25 he WAS playing Galaga.
These are better than the Tiger handheld games.
Dude, everything is better than the Tiger consoles.
ironmanzelda15 even the Phillips cdi
Modern 8-bit Nah, that gave us the CDI-Zelda games. Those are crimes against humanity.
Swimming in shit is better than a Tiger handheld.
bro board games are better than tiger games
Absolutely legitimate collecting. I loved seeing the various games unique to the consoles. Please do another one if you get new ones in! This was cool.
I still have that spongebob plug & play somewhere, it's gliched though on some games, where it displays random blocks of color everywhere. Anyway, thanks for showing us your collection, plug & plays are a weird niche of gaming that are often over looked, so it's nice to see them get some love
There was a version of the Spongebob Plug and Play that was basically the Minigame mode from Mario Party, with an Olympics theme. I remember it looking similar to the one you have, but I've NEVER seen another one ever since I lost mine ages ago.
Same here i remember me and my brother had our own plug and play consoles i had a spongebob one and my brother had a spiderman one i miss those times sometimes i cry when i think about it
I have two spongebob P&Ps, the one he showed and one that is Spongebob's house. Maybe that's the one you're thinking of?
Super isn't that Fry Cook Games plug n play? I still have mine
Some of those Star Wars games look like adaptations of stages of the Atari "Return of the Jedi" arcade game.
I am learning a lot from you Metal Jesus! Thanks for all the awesome videos!
I have that lamp in the background. Throws off great lighting!
Just bought our first plug n play at a swap meet for a whopping $5. Great controller with some really cool classic games.
Mom went to a garage sale. Found a Dora One. It's like mario party. XD
I had that Spongebob one. I played that thing until it glitched out and stopped working.
That exact same thing happened to me
Yeah, first came the color glitches, then it got harder to control, and then it just flat out stopped working. I miss it.
I had most of these as a young child, I didn't appreciate them at all but looking back now, I really miss the simple and addictive gameplay of these things. It really makes me think I might not even be a gamer today without these systems in the past.
I love that the Ms Pac Man p&p resembles the old lounge/cocktail table machines. That extra little bit of nostalgia as you prepare to indulge in nostalgia.
I have a Mortal Kombat Plug n Play!
-scoob yes!- this is a kids show!
I think there's a lot of untapped potential in the Plug & Play idea. You can sell individual games to people who don't want to go to the trouble of buying an old console with controllers, cables, etc. and hunting down a cart. They do that with Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter 2, Pac-Man, Sonic The Hedgehog, and a few others as we can see here but why not, say, Final Fantasy? They could package the first few games into a unit or sell a FFVII unit or something like that. Or maybe GTA3? You could even include the first two PC games and the London thing. Or even something like Myst. Or Doom. Or an RPG like Mana or Gaia with a couple of save slots. There's so much money just being left on the table for no reason.
Imagine how much money Nintendo could make if they made Plug and Plays of old NES and SNES games.
No, you're probably right. Since nes and snes games are easy to find there's no point in going through the trouble.
I love looking back at comments like these. You guys predicted the future
I use to work for Radica Games. We made a bunch of these plug and play games. Miss those days. Glad to see you do an episode on them!
I used to love these things. I just wish they lasted longer.
The new thing that Nintendo has coming out sounds like an advanced version of these.
you mean the mini nes?
SuperDerrick128 Yep
yea, its kinda like the atari flashback series where it is a collection of emulated games built into a mini replica of the console they originally appeared on.
There were a couple Sega ones (i.e. Genesis) that are just like it.
plug and plays are cheaper than buying the original consoles
i've been gathering these things for years, the fact that they have such a limited run really does rile up the collectors instinct. for the most part they will run happily off of 5v so a slight modification to use an old cellphone adapter or usb will save on batteries if you find one you use a lot.
It bring back so many memories expeditiously the last one
I HAD THAT SPONGEBOB! I had that shit, and I beat that shit! That breakout clone is the reason I grew up with hand eye coordination, fuck I wish I could get my hands on one of those again. Seeing it in the thumbnail is the reason I clicked this video
Legitimate form of collecting methinks, especially the Atari Flashback "consoles".
Nintendo should do sometime consider plug-and-play NES "consoles" like these, to renew interest in the brand or something...
I believe SEGA did it? I remember, albeit it was years ago, in our local walmart a TV Plug n Play SEGA console with various Genesis games like Sonic 1 and Golden Axe.
Nintendo prefers having everyone rebuy the games using Virtual Console on the Wii rather than releasing a plug-and-play.
rosstedfordkendall
That's the thing, then release the plug and play in poorer/third world countries like SEGA still does with the Master System, since they more often than not can't afford the newest consoles. It'll be a small profit, but profit nonetheless.
It's more complicated than that. Sega no longer makes consoles (not since the Dreamcast ended.) The Master System was handed over to Tectoy for manufacture a long time ago. Same with those Atari plug and plays. They're now made by At Games or Jakks Pacific.
Nintendo on the other hand hold very tight control on their products, and is focusing on the Wii U, so they won't license to a third party. Anything that is plug and play with Nintendo games would be unlicensed, like the Power Play Super Joy or similar, or those Retro consoles that use an NOAC to play old NES cartridges. That's about all you'll ever see in terms of a Nintendo plug and play.
rosstedfordkendall
Ah I believed SEGA still had some royalties though, through Tectoy, or do they?
Still, I know it won't happen Nintendo Plug n Plays, but maybe in some future, someday, maybe?
Perhaps?
Anything's possible. It's just kind of unlikely with Nintendo since they guard their properties very closely.
Yes, Sega most likely gets royalties for the use of the Sega name. Atari is more complicated, since the trademark has changed hands so many times.
Love watching your videos and the fact you aren't biasedwhen discussing what you liked or didn't like. Honestly all the games are great entertainment.
I still have the ms. Pacman arcade style since middle school i had lots of fun playing with my friends and once every couple months we get together and try settle the score.. Great memories
A plug in play that's wireless ain't that ironic😀😀😀😀😀
I had the spongebob
Me too!
James Vixen You ever played the patrick maze game?
Michael Morales I don't know.
James Vixen oh
I've never actually heard of these, they're super cool! I'll probably start collecting them now
This inspired me into buying these small units, cheap novelty gaming, loving it. Great vid man.
I have the spongebob one.
Me two
Me four!
I used to had it when I was in elementary school, but it disappeared.
No scoob its a kids show dont
Yay another jontron fan
+G4V1N Zoinks!
I had all of these when I was a kid around 4 years old thanks for the old memories 👍
i think its a great way to collect old school arcade games,as you said it yourself they are nearly always ported really well!
great review MetalJesus :)
What can I say, except that it is perfect
I might start collecting these, I see them at goodwill and other thrift stores for around $5. They seem pretty durable as well. Thanks for the review Metal Jesus!
Justin Hughes Ummmm.....Yespe!
I had a Sega Genesis plug and play and a Pacman plug and play, both included great games.
Great review!
Years ago I would have passed over any reviews of plug n plays but I've got a fair collection myself. 2 of the original Namcos one blue and yellow which twists for pole position and then red yellow and black one. I plugged in my At Game Genesis controller plug n play as I'm moving and already packed up 30 consoles and games. Funny thing is I've had them for a year and a half...first time playing today! Had a blast!
I had a lot of the ones shown. I even had this great paintball gun plug and play it worked like a light gun game
I just subscribed to your channel :),i must of been living under a rock to not have stumbled accross your videos.MetalJesus! YOU ROCK!!!! XD
Those were definitely strangely charming!
Really enjoyed this video man, thanks for sharing.
Great channel by the way, one of my favourites.
I have one plug-and-play, shown at 7:26. It's the blue one, next to the mystery machine, similar to the wireless one shown, but having two less games. Pole position is so fun.
You should do more videos like this metaljesus nice vid man
i remember my mom buying a plug and play console it was one with some namco arcade classics. the joystick did not feel analog like the original arcade but felt better than an average controller joystick at least for those games. dont know what happened to it but molds for these plug and plays were awesome.
I had the spongebob plug & play as a kid i wish i still had it
I know I wish I never sold it :(
Those things are pretty nice little collectors pieces.
I personally only have the Spongebob plug n play, but I really want to have some more of them, I love the nice little games that come with them
AWESOME systems to collect, Jesus! Keep 'em coming!
I think it would be cool if you and DM Paul and some of your other buddies had a video that you all sat down and had a discussion about what to you guys makes a good game and why and show examples of where decent games you all agree on have strong points and then the aspects that bring it down. I would very very much like a longer episode that covers this as I find your opinions and reviews very interesting and valuable to me, great vid here btw I never messed with PnP consoles
Really cool that you did an episode on a more obscure way of playing video games
Another great video Jesus! Keep em coming!
I started picking these up out of mere curiosity. I am glad i did because they are very interesting to look at and the games are the same quality of the original source. I don't look for these, but if i see one at the right price, i'll pick it up.
I really thought these where terrible I always see them at my local thrift shops and scoff at them but I believe you have thoroughly changed my mind so much so that I will be keeping an eye out for these. I would love to see a continuation of this video so I know more to look for. Thanks keep up the good work
I had the spongebob one. The maze game was my favorite. I'd spend hours trying to beat it. The maze game has mini games like basketball. And some more.
Enjoyed this and yes it is a welcome form of collecting. Thank you for the videos!
i also used to collect these i would say it is a pretty cool collection to have
Just a fun bit if info: The C64 Plug & Play was designed by self taught electronic genius Jeri Ellsworth -- She taught herself most of her electronics knowledge and didn't even attend University! .. I found her story to be very inspirational, just discovered her youtube channel recently as I've been getting into amateur hobbyist electronics myself and she has some excellent tutorials.
Also, speaking of Commodore: If you're into reading about the genesis of the computer and video game industry - an awesome book you might want to check out if you haven't already: Commodore: A company on the edge. Very fascinating read, I learned a lot of neat things from it.
Great vid! Keep up the good work, MJR!
Review more of these! I love plug n plays due to how interesting and odd they are
Mortal Kombat Plug n Play. I worked with Chris Burke, the one who actually coded that plug n play game. One of the development stories of that game is that he actually had to take pictures of some of the moves to use them as sprites since some of them were missing. Engineers back then were more hands on, they did everything to get the game done no excuses, not like now... I work on the game industry and ALWAYS find time to fix minor art stuff while still doing my code. You save a lot of time.
Wired version of the Miss Pac-Man game that has most if not all of the same games in it runs on four double a batteries to. and you're right that is a pretty amazing game.
This video brings me back!!!
I have one of those, its that Star wars revenge of the sith plug n play game, that was fun back in the day, the games in there were fun as well, like Obi-wans lightsaber deflector, and that space battle dogfight game, too.
I like it - this is history and gaming is always fun
This is absolutely a legitimate form of collecting! I love the classic arcade ones, and ones that have Atari 2600 or Intellivision games! I agree that the Ms.Pac-Man is perfect - I can't tell the games from the arcade originals. Some rare consoles to look for: Space Invaders, Konami, Activision, Sega...and there is even a Commodore 64!
Have a little kid that you want to introduce to video games? These cheap plug & plays are perfect! There's Spider-Man, Batman, Scooby-Doo, SpongeBob, Power Rangers, etc.
Now, a word of caution here...some of these cartoon ones are fun, but many are crap. Your kid might like them, but if you want to play too, you might wanna stick with the classics mentioned above. Avoid some of the cartoon ones, unless you are a huge Scooby fan or something. Then, at least the console will look cool on your shelf after you tire of the games.
Those plug and plays are cool
Awesome subject, dude! These are great and very collectible!
Metaljesus is awesome. I usually watch his videos because he's polite and what he says is accurate
That Star Wars Plug & Play looks pretty fun!
Cool, some of those had quite good games on them. I have quite a few Namco collections for a fair few systems, did not know there was a play and play version. I will have to look out for that one.
love it! Do an update, they must be wild by now!
I love the wireless Namco Stick. I have one and its one of my favorites. I also highly recommend the Commodore 64 one that I found recently. Its excellent and very unique.
Love that stars wars one! Gonna try and find one now..
This was a very cool video! Makes me want to go out and buy some plug and play consoles myself!
Omg Nappy and Xevious were my favorite on that last one!
I would say it depends on what is inside the controller. Having Arcade classics is a plus. There was an unofficial NES Controller, that kept getting improved over time, but it broke, and also had a dirty signal, it was okay, but needed to be better quality.
Awesome review MJR.... really helpful I'm looking into getting some of these for my son. I was wondering why Ms Pac-man was so bulky and you demonstrated the reason for it. Now the Spongebob does appear to be fun so i'm gonna try to get one for sure. Thanks
Excellent Video, I really want to find some of these in the wild, the original games on them look pretty sweet, Can't to see more vids on these gems in the future.
Hey I have that superman 1! Man does that thing game me a nostalgia blast!
I had a different sponge Bob one with a snowball throwing game, a jelly fish collecting game, a cool puzzle game, and the breakout clone, but it was and still is very fun
That Scooby-Doo plug and play looks awesome. The games definitely look playable too. Have to do some searching on MAME to see if those games are available for download. Thanks for the review!
Awesome video as always!
Great video! I really wish there was trackball plug and play device that had games like Missile Command, Millipede, and Centipede! That would ROCK hardcore!
I collect these, as well. In the future, I think these will fall under the same sort of collecting niche that the old Coleco table arcade units and other early pre-game boy handhelds do now.
the scooby doo one is also on gameboy advance as a full release with a different title, I had it a long time ago but I don't remember what it was called
Great video...especially the Mrs pac man👍👍like you said it never gets old
Their a good collection to have.
Everything you said made sense! Def interesting you should get the penguin one very badass!!
I love consoles like that... mostly you can find them on flea markets for very low prices... i keep collecting those little fun makers!
I've actually started collecting plug-n-plays. I also try to purchase them on the cheap although my family did buy me an old pac-man one with Galaxian, Pac-man, Pole Position, and Dig Dug for around $15 for Christmas one year.
I’m playing the star war one now it’s fun to remember good times
I remember getting these things A LOT in 2005 and 2006. There was actually a WWE one I got and it's laughably bad yet I played the hell out of it. I also vividly remember when I bought it there was an advertisement on the box to pick up an attachment and supposedly this attachment would allow more modes and characters but I don't think the attachment was ever released or made for that matter so there's just an awkward slot on the controller that nothing goes into.
I love Bosconian,... def my favorite Namco game.
i had a similar plug n play to the ms pacman one but mine had some other games. it had ms pacman, mappy, pole position, xevious and galaga
Liking the outro, Metal Jesus! Also, these games seem fun. My little nephews had a really crap plug&play. Would have loved to have given them some decent ones bu they, now they're all over their Wii. And my Gameboy Color, for some reason. :D
