EDIT AND UPDATE: Detent felt stronger on the forward stroke due to the slight angle of the magnet mounted to the controller housing (ie the two are not 100% facing each other). Tried to bring the magnets closer together by stacking two layers of GoPro stickers and while this worked a treat for the detent, I ran into clearance issues with the components hitting each other. In the end I took the magnets out altogether.
