    Hey, thanks for your Video and the nice overview. If you turn the TM 16000M on the backside and push the throttle all the way up, you will find a little silver screw. If you turn this little screw you are able to change the resistance of the throttle. After that it works very smooth.

    I found the Thrustmaster has a bit of a break in period, I've now used it for about 20 hours of flying for so far and it feels a lot better now than it did out of box.

      @@panther6330 It's great! Over the past year I'd say I've put around 700-800 hours of flying on it and it still works flawlessly.
      All the buttons still feel crisp and the stick itself has not developed any play. I have not noticed any wear.
      One small thing: it is pretty easy for dust to get into the throttle and pedal housing so I open them up to clean them a bit every 4 months or so.
      I am very happy with it and it's a set I would definitely recommend to anyone who is semi-serious about flight sims.

      Barefoot Gaming it really isn’t tho.
      It has a comically under engineered gimbal mechanism that will last a while when doing classic flight sim, but space sims will grind it easily within 2 years.
      Once that weird plate starts to scratch the ball, you will loose even the tiny bit of precision, that it had when it was new.
      The throttle is decent for the money, but the stick has to be a practical joke that somehow made it to production.
      I recently gave a friend a T16k and an X56 throttle. He wanted to check whether he likes HOTAS. I think this is the best combo until you want to invest into Virpil stuff.

    I have an X52 and the TM16000 with pedals. The X52 has a brilliant selection of knobs, switches and twiddley bits, better than the TM16000s. However, I found the TM16000 has a much more precise action, no need for a dead zone with any flight sim, I find the TM16000 much better for precise control but wish there were a couple more twiddley bits to map to the trim control for planes. I didn't know about the screws for adjusting the throttle tension, I found it a bit stiff but now know how to fix that, thanks to the other commentators. The X52 joystick is too slack and has not got the precision of the TM, I found I needed to set a dead zone to use it effectively. For me and flight sims the TM16000s wins, for Elite Dangerous I would probably swap back to the X52 if I still played it. Good review but I think you should have mentioned how accurate each stick was.

    Great reviews - love the color commentary!
    I got a Thrustmaster T16000M for Christmas (thanks, sweetie!) and don't have any problems with throttle smoothness; it's nice & buttery through its whole range of motion. I didn't even notice the front-facing port for attaching a rudder system until your review!
    As far as negatives go, I've found the 12 platform buttons (5-16 in the bindings) on the stick to be GROSSLY mushy... their engagement depth is REALLY hard to gauge. IF I actually used these buttons more than occasionally, I'd almost be inclined to return the system to the seller as defective. The top buttons (2-4) on the stick are ALSO more mushy than I'd like, but not to the same degree as the platform buttons.
    Also, while I don't have the same complaint about the throttle or stick hat buttons' material quality as you do, I wonder if there's actually a little too much rebound in the stick's hat button. I've been playing SW: Squadrons for the last couple days with the stick's hat bound to power distribution (left for engines, up for weapons, right for shields, and down for normalize), and I've found it can actually be pretty hard to get the power setting to stay where where I'm trying to set it if I'm not a lot more deliberate than I have to be.

    • @barefootgaming6265
      @barefootgaming6265  3 года назад

      All good points BalkanOkami, and it seems from the comments that the "sticky" parts on the throttle are hit and miss. No matter how much that screw gets loosened some people have issues while others have none. Maybe amazon played soccer with my box prior?
      ...as to the rebound, mine was doing the same thing when I tested it with Squadrons, which is SUPER frustrating as that's a feature that you use ALL the time when changing power systems. Thanks for the comment!

    The Thrustmaster t.160000m HOTAS throttle is a bit sticky out of the box, it does grab a bit but every other part about it i've found to be spectacular. And if you rest your hand on the throttle in such a way where you put the whole weight of your arm on it, the stickiness goes away. You can also tweak the friction with a screw on the bottom.

    • @barefootgaming6265

      Oh for sure was aware of the screw on the bottom re: tightness - but it feels good to know you knew what I was talking about! lol, so that's very appreciated! And it's by NO means a dealbreaker, it was just the only HOTAS that had it...and I wasn't sure if it was maybe just mine. The fact that it goes away is also very good to know, thank you very much for the heads up Childish Karstino - super appreciated :D

    On the flip thing being missing on the X56, the X56seems to be a copy of the F-16’s side stick and throttle setup (minus the split throttle and the angle of the throttle) and does a pretty good job of replicating it for its price.

    The 1600M Throttle was a bit catchy. You need a specific type of gel called "Nyogel 767a". It is rather pricey, but it was super worth it. It makes the throttle a little harder to push, but it is super smooth throughout. Feels a lot more like a real throttle than the floaty/catchy feeling you get out of the box.
    I have the whole set with the pedals, and I think it is the best option when it comes to a beginner HOTAS. When I upgrade, I will replace the stick first, then pedals and finally the throttle (I think this is the most serviceable out of all of them.)

      I really wish Thrustmaster would include just a little bit of the lubricant (767a is CRAZY expensive in Canada! $80 on amazon.ca !!!) with this setup...even just a little bit. I have the TM1600 and used it for about a year now. But yeah, the throttle does get a bit sticky.
    I took the base off and lubricated the rails it slides on which worked for a month or so.
    Then I removed one of the springs giving tension to the rails which really reduces the resistance and sticking feeling.
    Other than that, I really like the stick. It feels far far better than the X52/56,and the hall sensors are far more accurate which makes careful manoeuvres like air to air refueling and landing much nicer.

    If you're gonna compare Logitech vs Thrustmaster, I think you should feature the most relevant Thrustmaster product, the HOTAS Warthog, which is also THE ONE HOTAS that x55 and later x56 were made to compete against on the first place.
    BTW, I can provide a couple of IMPORTANT downsides to the X56, having owned one for a couple years now:
    1. Ergonomics suck, some buttons are a pretty hard to reach without moving your hand, which is a problem by itself, and a serious one since it denies the basic principle of a HOTAS which is not moving your hand around, and especially on the stick, let's not forget we're talking about a 200-250€ device, and if your precision matters, say you're pointing guns at a target on a dogfight and you need to reach the fire switch, or you're flying close formation and need to trim out the aircraft / spaceship / whatever you're using it in, this can make a difference as it's likelly you'll modify the axis input in order to reach that button.
    Not only that, but some buttons are also hard to hit without hitting others in the way, namelly, the pickle switch (button 2 on the stick, marked with an A painted on it) and the trim hat, pickle is hard hard to get without hitting the POV hat (8 way grey hat) because the way it's built makes the POV hat stand in the way when you extend your thumb to reach the pickle switch, this doesn't happen for example, on the HOTAS Warthog, or HOTAS Cougar (tho I think Cougar is not on sale anymore), the trim hat is likewise hard to reach without hitting the 4 way (castle) hat just below it. Throttle thumb controls are also pretty awkwardly placed and will force to lift and shift your hand in order to use them.
    It's hard to find a place to rest your right thumb too, because if you use the thumb mini-stick (Axis RX and RY, as well as button number 4 on stick -as the mini stick can be depressed and act as another button-) you'll notice it's really sensitive and thus can't really rest the thumb there without accidentally moving it around. This also means it's really easy to move the stick around when trying to depress it for it to act as button, which also happens for the throttle mini-stick.
    Stick itself too is also pretty thick and will put constant strain on the hand, making it uncomfortable, which, added to the weird controls positioning might create some pain after a couple hours of use. ABSOLUTELLY NO GO for long sessions of use.
    2. The throttle has a WAY TOO HIGH resistance, even when at the lowest possible friction, it is a bit weird tho, cause it loosens up after moving it a couple times and goes stiff again after like 10 seconds not moving, this, along with the light, plastic quality build of the hotas, makes it so that, unless you have it mounted with screws to the surface it's in, you will push the whole thing forward (or backwards) instead of just the throttle itself if you need to make a quick adjustment after a while of not moving it, for example, if you're playing DCS and have been running on mil power and try to hit full afterburner after getting spiked.
    3. The precision of the axis in the X56 is... questionable, for instance, I got the zoom axis in DCS set to the Z axis in the throttle, the rotary axis on top of the right throttle, and without moving it it sometimes starts sending wrong output so my zoom "vibrates" alternating between 2 values constantly till I move it again, this does not necessarily happen near the middle point of the rotary, where the detent is, and thus is not a matter of deazones, is something that may happen anywhere, is also not a DCS problem as it has given me issues in other games too + doesn't happen if I bind a different axis to it
    4. The 2 rotaries in the top and bottom of the reight throttle (Z axis, which is the one I mentioned in the previous point, and the one right opposite to it, the other one with a detent and same texture, can, meaning it might or might not, depending your luck in the lottery, come lose, meaning they wobble a bit when moving, and can give a "scratchy" feel when being moved, again, this might or might not come this way depending on luck.
    5. The 2 position switch in the throttle (btn 33 / 34, marked SLD) will act really weird on some games, I understand this is not logitech's fault, but there's that to be aware of.
    6. Both 8 way button (buttons 24-27) and 4 way (buttons 20-23, the one just above the 8 way) in the throttle and the 2 way hat also in the throttle (buttons 28 and 29), are EXTREMELLY low quality build and have a tendency to get stuck, sometimes being hard to unstuck them.
    So yeah, all of this would be forgivable in a casual, cheap stick, but I would absolutelly recommend AGAINST buying this for long sessions of gaming and wouldn't recommend it either for serious / hardcore simmig, but then again, I wouldn't recommend it for casual gaming either cause price is above 200€. If you're going for a more casual gameplay Aim for the T1600 or something similar, if you really wanna dive in hardcore sim, and you REALLY do need a HOTAS, go for the TM Warthog, tho be ready to scratch your wallet not only for the HOTAS itself but also pedals, as TM Warthog does NOT have yaw pitch (however, I'd argue you'd already be buying pedals anyway for more hardcore sims), also TM warthog will probably not do a good job for more arcadey / fast response based games, remember it's a 1:1 replica of an actualy A10 HOTAS and thus it is designed around a different task than most other HOTAS, so not suitable for Elite Dangerous and most space sims, probs not suitable for War Thunder, even for sim battles, as War Thunder does not have use for all the buttons and switches that TM warthog brings to the table, could ofc use it on either game, or in any game, but I wouldn't buy it just to play any of those, ONLY if you plan to fly more serious sims.
    Alternativelly, if you want somethign in the middle for around the same price, X52 woudl be a better option, altho I remember there were issues with the models that came after 2007, which is when Mad Catz bought Saitek, which for some reason increased ammount of broken devices out of factory, not quite sure if they ever got fixed.
    Hope you found this useful and sorry if I didn't explain myself at some point since Eng is not my 1st language.

    Hi. I’m thinking to get a new Hotas for Star Wars squadrons. One question: do all of these have (strong) force feedback? I only had a Microsoft sidewinder before that I didn’t touch for 20 years, but I’m looking for something similar to this regarding FFB - plus separate throttle.

    T16k has a friction screw on the bottom of the throttle you can adjust to get the throttle to move smoothly or grab if you want. Move throttle full forward, and you'll see a Phillips head screw on the underside. Loosen it a bit and it'll glide. :)

    • @barefootgaming6265
      @barefootgaming6265  3 года назад

      Oh yes Gnomish 8, I found the screw, but for some reason mine still wouldn't glide smoothly all the way through. It had a hiccup spot right in the middle...and others have commented here as well that theirs also had that issue but they got past it with certain grease's (I don't think grease looks right in plural...lol). Obviously mileage will vary, and I'm glad to hear that yours was smooth after adjusting though :D Thanks for the comment Gnomish 8

      @@barefootgaming6265 Pro tip: Don't use a grease for this application because it builds up faster, just a mess, and needs to be cleaned more often. Also, do NOT use WD40 because it is NOT a lubricant... it is a cleaner/degreaser. When I hear of people using it to "lube" ball bearing assemblies I can only cringe. What happens when you spray WD40 in the bearing assembly is it's spraying detergent particles and cheap solvent in there. After the solvent evaporates the solvent residue and detergent particles get ground up by the bearings damaging them. Not as much of an issue for the slides of the throttle, but still not a good habit to get into. I recommend using as pure a solvent as possible to clean whatever you're trying to work on (e.g. 91% isopropyl alcohol or the like so after evaporation you have as little residue as possible), then to lubricate and protect use a little bit of light machine oil you can pick up from the local auto parts store (e.g. liquid wrench light machine oil) or a light gun oil from you local gun/sporting goods store (e.g. Rem Oil). You want just enough to cling to the surface, but not run all over the place. Also if worse comes to worse and you don't have the time to clean between each application of oil (which is recommended), you can get away with one or two more light application then clean again. Hope these tips come in handy... Good Luck!

  • @Kenneth_Rogers
    @Kenneth_Rogers 2 года назад

    If you're a but savvy with tinkering, they make an upgrade kit for the t16000m throttle that uses linear bearings to smoothen up the slide action. I haven't even received my T16k and I've already ordered the upgrade. All in all, still less expensive than an X56.

  • @porbitz

    Hi, thanks for the video!! 2 questions I have regarding the rigs:
    - Thrustmaster T-flight Hotas X: Aside from the lack of resistance in the throttle, would you say it's a good build quality? Is it robust and kinda "built to last"?
    - X52: Would you recommend getting used one? I'm juggling between getting a new T-Flight Hotas X (or used if I can't find a new one) or a used X52, but I'm afraid of a used X52 may be too beaten up and may not last. Thoughts?
    Thanks again!

    • @barefootgaming6265
      @barefootgaming6265  3 года назад

      Those are tough questions Pablo...because I haven't put in the hours and hours on the T.Flight Hotas X to know for sure how long it will stand up to the test of time, but it doesn't feel like the more expensive ones, so "built to last" would probably depend on how often you used it. For casual use I could see it lasting a fair while if you're not too rough with it.
      The X52 used is even harder to recommend because it depends how rough the previous user was with it. My Saitek X52 is pretty old at this point and still works perfectly, but mechanical electronics are a tricky thing to buy used, because it may work for a long time, and it might die tomorrow. I feel I was no help at all...BUT if it helps, I actually purchased my X52 used a long time ago (just before I purchased it, I checked it to see if it all looked in good condition, but that was a roll of the dice!)
      Good luck with whatever direction you go Pablo!!

    nice video, really good overview! i just started in MSFS 2020 and am already looking to upgrade from my xbox controller. the big question for me is: thrustmaster of logitech? i reviewed the comments here and saw that the t16000m fcs has a break in period, and you have to be kind of lucky with the throttle, but that it is more precise than the X52, so i'm kinda stuck in a dilemma. i never owned a flightstick before, so i could really use some advice, my budget unfortunatly doesn't go higher than the X52 pro, but i read that the difference is just in the build quality, and that the X52 pro doesn't have both triggers like the X52 does.

    I have the X56.........we have a love/hate relationship, lol. I have the common "ghosting" issue. It's where either the throttle or the stick will randomly activate a keybind without that button or switch being activated. So I can be mid flight in Elite: Dangerous and my galaxy map will just randomly open or my HUD mode will randomly switch or my heatsink will randomly deploy. I've tried using a USB3 port for the throttle and USB2 port for the stick and vice versa. The only thing I haven't tried yet is buying an AC powered USB hub which is another workaround. But we shouldn't be having to figure out tricks to get this thing to work. But other than that, I do really love it. I mean, you can do 40+ different keybindings with this sucker. And I do use almost every button and switch.

    Because its literally impossible to get anything at a non-scalped price right now, I recently went halves with a friend on the Thrustmaster T.16000M, which can come as a pair for a HOSAS setup so we took one each, so it cost me around £60. I'm glad I got it (because it means I can actually play!), and I have been using the mini slider as a throttle, but it is a limited setup. I'll probably buy the throttle separately once its available, because I can't justify spending 200 quid when I've literally just spent 60, but if I were starting over I think I'd go for something else.
